I'll always praise Genki Sudo's entrances, but his madness within the ring and cage deserve just as much love. People make a big deal about fighters who "dance" in the cage during a fight these days, but Genki not only danced better than pretty much everyone else who does it today, he didn't use it just to be cocky or be a dick. Rather, he successfully blended it into his fighting style, using it between combos, as an escape, and as a disorienting opener for his attacks (and most importantly, he did it to calm his nerves). And then when he got a hold of you, he'd still style on you with all kinds of flying submissions and transitions, and will probably be the only man to ever perform a Giant Swing during a legit MMA bout and use it to ultimately win via submission... which makes it all the more tragic that his fighting career got cut so short.

6:35 Fun Fact: the reason Sakuraba had on a shirt that had "Water" written on it was to make fun of the American people who get random Japanese or Chinese tattoos that day things like "water" or "happiness" and stuff like that just because they think it's cool to have Japanese writing tattooed on them. At the time were this fight happened there were a lot of stories about girls getting "Water" tattooed on them thinking it said something else like "peaceful" or "warrior" or stuff like that. And Japanese tattoo artist or happiness people who had translated the words for them had trolled then by writing "Water" in their language and these people had gotten it tattooed on them. So that's why he wore "Water" because the joke if the time period was "why would people get random ass words tattooed on them in a different language that means night. Therefore: "Water" shirt. Basically he was trolling all the American people with Japanese style writing tattooed on them. (Google the story of you wish). True story.
Because Japanese writing is beautiful. In the west we haven't had anything like it since illumination. Or maybe Vaughn Bode.
Other countries do the same thing with English words. Travel the World and you'll see what I mean.
The reason Sakuraba walked out as Mario is because during the build up Sakuraba kept called Randleman “Donkey Kong” uhhh...
It wasn't just Sakuraba, that was Randleman's PRIDE nickname at the time, because of the crazy high jumps he would always do in the ring before the fights.
It was even written (DONKEY KONGUUUU) on screen for the build-up/hype video that PRIDE would show the audience before the walk-outs.
Weird that the guy that made the video left this explanation out...
To be fair about Sakuraba and monkey-name calling;
during the build-up to his fight against Ricardo Arona, in PRIDE's little cartoonish promo drawings, the Brazilian was drawn as a tiger and Saku as a monkey ^^
So I doubt it was some racist stuff from him...

Sakuraba's is the best because not only is it funny but also could be possibly effective in the way that Tommy says, it could be disarming for your opponent who can't take you seriously after that, but the best part is that he's just advertising staying hydrated on his shirt.
So all in all, Sakuraba's entrance is entertaining, useful, productive, helpful and just all around 100% SAKU
