    I was a Pre-Nursing student until I took Microbiology this semester and LOVED epidemiology. I was so torn about changing majors and felt like everybody was discouraging me. I recently pulled the trigger and switch my major and my entire schedule for the following year. Thank you ladies so much, I feel so much more excited now!

    Thank you so much for this video! I just got my MPH in maternal and child health from UNC last year, and I'm still looking for a job. While applying I'm also building on my skills through courses and researching the changes in global health. Working at the W. Bank, global health is changing SO much that you can see a lot of anxiety.

    • @Angelxbaby88
      @Angelxbaby88 Před 7 lety +1

      Great! How was the program? What can You do with your degree? Where can you work? What will you be working as? Are you planning on traveling to apply your knowledge in other countries? How is the job market?

    • @paulacarazo6259
      @paulacarazo6259 Před 7 lety +9

      The program was wonderful, I definitely recommend it if you want the best of both worlds (working income while pursuing grad school from a top rank school). The faculty is so knowledgeable and my advisor was so helpful throughout the whole process. You can do a lot of job positions with the degree, my interest (and my program's strength) lies in program implementation and program monitoring and evaluation. I'm trying very hard to find a stable position where I can get experience in these areas while also gaining field experience in other countries. The job market is VERY competitive, worse w/Trump's stance on aid for Global Public Health and Development and domestic health care. So my personal recommendation is to never stop learning and don't be afraid to think outside the box when applying for jobs (don't confine yourself to 1 niche). In my case, I'm learning more about data analytics through online courses...sorry for the long response :) Best of luck! This is a labor of love for me, so as long as you have that passion you will do just fine.

    my name is also Ayanna! Right now I am a rising senior at Arcadia University pursing my BS in Public Health with a concentration in Global Public Health. My dream is to be a Nurse Midwife but I still love Public Health, so after nursing school I would like to pursue a masters in both Global Public Health and Nursing. Based on my research, Emory has a good dual program. I also have been thinking about the Peace Corps and I keep wrestling back and forth with the idea. I just came back from a service trip in Guatemala and it was an amazing experience that really motivated me to do more global work regarding maternal and child health.

    Amazing video all amazingly smart well rounded and beautiful women of color breaking the boundaries of public health . With this action it continues to shape and even create new avenues of both career options but also public awarenesses of the illnesses that arises within the population. As these particular issues increase so does the need to educate many on the importance of safety, preparedness, and awareness . On another note aside from the typical aspects of health , some things I would strongly hope will take more notice is understanding the statistical average of a small community coming in contact with other pathogens and man-made viral infections , which can harm the population. They key thing I personally feel should be done is to help prevent through education. Thank you ladies for being that light. Thank you Ms. Turk your an amazing host .

    I’m a recent Health Ed grad, I have my bachelors. You ladies seem to all be MPHs if I’m not mistaken? I’m finding it challenging to find work, as a lot of jobs want an MPH or some masters degree. I notice a lot of public-community health/health ed jobs are sucked up by nursing. The trend is to have people with clinical experience who do educating on the side. I’m also concerned about the upward mobility for public health/health ed careers due to budgets and funding.
    I really don’t want have to go back to school, I really want to get a job, get a place, and start paying on some of my student loans. Are there any tips you all can offer??

    We have the NHS in the UK . We pay for it through our taxes. We pay no other costs and prescriptions are very reasonable £9 currently. That covers things like inhalers and, I think epi pens. Pensioners children under 16 , those in full time education up to the age of 19 and those on state benefits get free prescriptions. I'm sure others can fill innthe gaps.
    Operations and maternity care are also covered.
    We really love our NHS and worry that this Tory government, with its love of privatising everything, will start to privatise it and sell it off 😪😪😪

    @ Mahogany, I am a recent undergraduate graduate and is considering pursuing a masters in public health prior to applying to medical school. I have a few questions regarding your MPH and post-bacc since you are or were a pre-medical student like me. What factors made you decide to do a postbacc after getting an MPH instead of doing postbacc before getting masters?

    Wow so inspiring! I currently attend ASC and am interested in Mahogany's research and journey to her MPH. Is it possible that I can receive her contact info/email?

    Hello! What did the two Spelman sisters major in for their undergrad? Spelman only has Public Health as a minor and I saw Biology and Health Sciences. Not sure which major is best but I'm in Health Sciences for now
