Classic song from awesome Legendary British band. Apple Records, Paul McCartney signed them. Pete Ham was a huge loss - died by suicide, played on All Things Must Pass, Bangladesh concert, wrote Day After Day, Without You, Baby Blue, Name Of The Game, Lonely You - Hudba
@RCN72 It related to Pete being asked to play the duet of "Here Comes The Sun" with George Harrison onstage at the Bangladesh concert, thus the lyric "Any day, the sun could shine on you..." and "... take it all, I don't need it at all." In the great Badfinger book, according to Pete's girlfriend and another friend, Joey was outwardly jealous and kept throwing digs at Pete. Pete was obviously a humble guy. Ever heard "Apple Of my Eye"? Astounding lyrics about the Bealtes.
Pete Ham was a great singer/songwriter. He never got his due, nor did the rest of the band. It's a shame. They really were one of the best rock bands ever, and I hope that they will be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. They deserve to be there.
Tom Evans is killer on those high harmonies...Pete and Tom always sound great together.
100% selfless man. He gave, gave, gave and we are the lucky ones to bask in such stellar music.
a singer songwriter of immense talent who will never be forgotten,,Pete Ham of Badfinger,,,,we miss you man,,
No, i am not crying. just have something in my eye. i love you badfinger.
How could Joey even think Pete thought of himself a big rock star, ego and all. Look at how the band is always lined up. If Pete was all about himself he would be front and center about two feet in front of the others. He is back on the right side, so far that his piano would hit the drums in about 4 inches. Pete was ALL about the music.
The harmonies between Pete and Tommy touches my heart! Mikes drumming really keeps the magic going! Pete's emotion makes me feel his pain 🌹
Don't forget, Tommy co-wrote "Without You". Always love listening to his bass playing, even though he wasn't originally a bassist, he played with great heart!
Rest in peace Pete Ham & Tom Evans, you both left us way too soon. Thanks for all the great music and memories.
Pete Ham talent cannot be matched or duplicated.....gone way, way to soon....
I agree completely. When I heard that he had killed himself I cried. It upsets me a lot that both genius Pete Ham and genius Tom Evans died that way. Very depressing. There will never be another Pete Ham or Tom Evans. It's an impossibility.
mama baehr . I quite agree. I believe it was George Harrison who enticed them to sign up for apple records. I've just seen a promotion video for no matter what but the one I remember being played all the time was come and get it. my mum would sing it when a meal was being served. peter ham also went on to write the wonderful without you. still one of the best ballads ever and a massive hit for harry nillson. what wonderful memories these songs create but what an awful tragedy of peter ham taking his life. on reflection another tragedy in the name of rock music! much missed!
This band was the most tragic loss to Music in my opinion. I love every song they ever recorded. Pete and Joey, along with the rest of the band were extremely talented. Theire talents complemented eachother to make one of those GREATS in music!!
My God! Listen to the musicality and phrasing. I'm just so lucky to be able to listen and appreciate Badfinger and this most raw pure version. Thanks.
Ditto, wish they got respect they deserved!!!!!
Just now discovering this band. These guys had so much talent, soul, and potential. Pete Ham is amazing. Very tragic loss.
Probably one of my favorite Badfinger songs but then again they are ALL great!!
I love their harmonies more than any others..they almost sound as one. Such a sad story, they would/should have gone so far. They were "the next Beatles" back then. Pete trusted everyone. He was such a great guy in so many ways. Huge musical talent songwriting as well as vocals, piano and guitar..makes me wish so much they were still making music.
What an awesome song, awesome band. Two voices that belonged together. Two beautiful artists silenced by the crooks and thieves of this world.
Badfinger = Pure Talent
The chords and chord progressions used in this song are so beautiful it hurts!
These guys were SOOOOOOOOOO much like the Beatles it kills me that they did not get the money and glory they deserved! The Beatles themselves said they were awesome to the point of being produced and signed by them to APPLE records. God bless you lads, I'm sure your in heaven with John and George and the Good Lord has an awesome band up there!
There drummer was solid. He played differently on the album.
His work on day after day is great
Hard to believe that Joey is the only one left.
Badfinger was a great band that was steam rolled by the business and the public's changing taste for McMusic.
I could listen to this over and over. This beats all.
so do I
I agree!
i feel privileged to find a collection of live Badfinger on CZcams and Take It All is such a beautiful example!!!
it's not so long ago, isn't it ? ;)
Such a criminal shame that the Greedy manager took it all! They deserved the very best and are still missed today ( Pete, Tom and Mike)!! Great song!!
Was far too young to appreciate any music, let alone music of this calibre, when they came on the scene. Now in my 40s, I have a huge appreciation for the music, the talent and all they were cheated of.
Badfinger was such a great band and I miss them.
This is one of my all time favorite Badfinger songs. For some reason, my top 3 favorite Pete tunes weren't written for/ about girls. They are "Take it All" and "Keep Believing'" (written for Joey) and "Dennis" (my number one fave, written for his girlfriend's son, Blair). In all three of those songs, I can almost feel what it seemed Pete was feeling as he wrote and sang them. I can't tell you how much Pete has inspired me. These guys are one of a kind.
God, I love Badfinger
And Dwight Twilley. Good taste!
Oh yeah Dwight is awesome, total ear candy :)
I read that Pete wrote this song about Joey wanting all the glory! If u listen hard you can't hear Pete almost screaming that he sings a song for the high of it. Poor Joey ! He ruined the spirit of the band along with Kathy. And now Joey is still ( as an old man) playing Pete Ham's songs for whatever £ or dollars he can get! Peter Ham is a precious spirit ! x
TOM AND PETE
Straight Up is one of the ten greatest rock albums ever... I've always felt that way. Not a bad track on it, and a number of classics, like this song.
Thanks so much for posting all these. These are the best Badfinger clips I've ever seen.
This is one of my favorite Badfinger songs as well ...and ditto they deserve to be in the RNR hall of fame if anyone does ...
I read somewhere ( I'm pretty sure in "Without You") That Pete wrote this song for Joey, because he was jealous of Pete for being chosen to play "Here Comes the SUn" with George harrison at the Concert for Bangledesh. Pete felt bad that Joey was upset (Pete also felt like he was being put up on a pedistal above the rest of the band, which he didn't want), so he wrote this for him. How sweet of him.
RIP Pete, Tommy, and Mike.
The shame of Badfinger is Pete Ham was willing to be "democratic" to allow all of the band members equal song contributions. Not that they didn't have anything to contribute (Tom Evan especially) but Pete Ham was sooo far ahead of the rest in songwriting and singing. If you disagree (this is CZcams, after all) the simple fact that Pete Ham's estate released two disks of basic "outakes" that sold well is proof of agreement. Mollard and Evans couldn't make it without Ham. That's just a simple fact.
nezzmaccaham, for someone so young you have a special gift, you know what music is meant to be, this music is just that, musicians are two a penny, theres only one peter ham,
One of my top five favorites from Badfinger. Great song!
Pete Ham, the voice of Badfinger.
I Love Badfinger, It was the first concert I attended @ 14 yrs old.And kinda like my first serious date ...Corpus Christi TX. Memorial Colosium..... The building was torn down several months ago... I brought alot of bricks home with me ....I'll never forget the concert nor the boy..........
I couldn`t agree more.
To me this encapsulated the early seventies. The way they sounded and the way they looked. The story of Badfinger is the most tragic in the whole of rock n roll.
They were a brilliant band and inspire me to this day.
I love the whole set of six compilation. Really shows that Badfinger were 4, and not just Ham and Evans. If you dig through their albums (if you can find the originals) even Mike pops up on a lead vocal now and then!
Agree, though, that Ham was a special songwriter. McCartney described him as one of the best ever. That's a pretty nice endorsement!
This is beautiful. Happy Birthday Pete :) You are so missed.
gbj11, I have to agree Straight up is a great album. Great production, songwriting and the Album flows very well from start to finish. One of the all time favorites.
So sad about what this group went through. They were awesome.
nezmaccaham, nice story, knowing the, kind of man pete ham was,i can well believe it,people like that are so rare and it would have been such an honour to have met him,god bless him for his contribution and the profound impact he made on me,
triang so right man,im still trying to play the guitar and my hero is pete by a mile,
great song from badfinger, true i so get this song, give people an inch they will take a mile, or try to take away your thunder.
I LOVE THIS SONG! Ironic and so criminally sad what happened to them because they were worth their weight in gold!!
This band is the greatest band formed after The Beatles, but with a tragic and horrific history. It's like a perfect day except it rains in the afternoon or walking through nature everything alive and then seeing something that is dead meaning that the glory never really came and we lost Tom Evans and Pete Ham tragically and the bastard who caused Pete Ham to kill himself got clean away with it. Like the latest tragedy of the last election. Sometimes something really horrible happens right after something great. This is one of the most perfect songs ever written. A gem.
amazing song...xx
literally THE most underrated song ever. fact
Love this song--I think my favorite off of Straight Up. Just knowing the story of the band brings tears to my eyes when listening--the way Tom and Pete harmonize so beautifully.
furtherdefinitions, spot on, badfinger and perticular pete ham were a band that were so together, they were unique and so gifted they had the lot as far as a band were concerned, just a one off that we may never witness again,
That was a fantastic band. Loved it. They wrote some great songs and many do not know " Without You " is one of them
THUMBS UP
Eric
Pete ham the best
Beautiful. I never get tired of listening to this wonder music.
Always one of my favorite Badfinger tunes. I've played this song with a few bands and with my brother as a duo hundreds of times. Great clip indeed...
Great Song!
pete ham, what a man, thanks for that music, miss you man, give my regards to tom and mike,
Badfinger is a musicians musician's band like no other, not a single rock musician that I've worked with has not loved them, that is like a true success in the industry that they could not share like they should have
beautiful
The album track has always made me stop and listen, no matter what I am doing I stop dead and listen. It is such an awesome song. This live performance just shows what a great band they were. And how they played with real feeling. Love it.
Great Song
The only good thing about dying is seeing these guys in concert. The ones that I love are dead.
wat a song..!!!..am speechless & watching d vid w/ full concentration - hypnotized; if only d new generation of artists wud look back into ds kind of songs...
Hadn't seen this one...thanks for posting. Makes me so sad, such a waste.
i LOVE THIS SONG
This is a fine showcase of the songwriting and vocals of Pete Ham, and an excellent live performance by the band as a whole. I love this one!
This video is a treasure.
I'm sure there were so many songs that Pete would have written and I love the songs he has. I just feel that someone should have kept tabs since they were new to the business of it. I watched a few videos of "Badfinger" after Pete had gone. It is obvious that Joey loved being front and center...know what I mean?
People who do not like and respect the genius of Badfinger are people who I do not wish to know.
Fantastic!
nez, just to say its nice to know there is someone apart from me who really have that special gift of recognising real greatness in musical prowess, such as pete ham, he was so special, i get pissed off because i dont think pete realised he was as good as he was, and that is so un fair,
Yes-I love Badfinger!!! This is a great song!! I wish they would have added the organ like on the record...but it still sounded great. I still listen to their music all the time...its timeless!!
If Stan Polley isn't burning in hell, hell isn't worthy of the name. imo Badfinger was the greatest band that isn't an "A" list classic band. RIP guys. Joey, get over it, man. It's Over.
that's one of my favorite
This is Fantastic!
I think you are very fortunate too! What a neat time to be alive- I'll be 21 in 2012.....yea, I'm not impressed by the music that's out today. Some is good, but, you get my point.
I would've loved to be around in the 60's and 70's- Musically, amazing.
Badfinger and the Beatles are my two favorite bands- if only I could've seen them live.
the greatest band that never was!love the band,if not for horrible management, who knows how big they would've gotten, groomed to be the next Beatles!
a great band with immense talent!
pete ham, theres just no end to the talent of the man,we miss you man, tom, mike too
Are you kidding me....
I had forgotten that this was my favorite song of my life back when I was 12 or so...1973.
Although everyone was cueing up Baby Blue, Day After Day and such, (those of us who had to cue a song on a LP) I was crazy for this song.
I was driving to my sisters house about a year ago and the greatest hits c
d was in the car and when this song came on, I went crazy!!! what a song!!!
they're music is alive
Pete wrote this for Joey Molland cuz Molland was acting like a little child when he wasn't getting the attention he thought he should.
It was a nice a gesture from Pete who was the true talent of the 2.
Ya gotta remember; it was the early 70's and live music was still feeling it's own way along. I'm of an age (52) where I would go to concerts and the agenda was "turn everything up louder than everything else". I tended to do that in bands I played in. Sometimes, ya just don't know no better!
Man what a great song!!!!!
My very favorite Badfinger song.... sigh.
THIS WAS FROM THE BBC LIVE SHOW, WHICH IVE HAD ON RECORD AND CD, THANKS NOW FOR THE VISUAL TO GO ALONG WITH IT. IT'S GREAT !
I completely agree!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful.
This song is on Badfinger's "Live at the BBC" album.
A sad story. A very good band. Great songs
Hey I was in my teens during the sixties and let me tell you, we got spoiled. Everything from music, sports to movies..., they were awesome. I mean classic after classic in all fields..,too much man. During that whole time I felt like if I was in a movie with a killer soundtrack! Even the comic books were awesome! You also felt good knowing the Beatles were around.
Melodia bellisima !!
so true--I recently posted "Apple of My Eye" as my Badfinger tribute
Very Beautiful!!
I have to write an essay about someone I would love to meet and have a conversation with, why, and how has this person impacted me and my values: and for a number of reasons, I chose Pete Ham- he was so amazing :o]
This video definatly helped the essay move along- you can see how great he was.
Awesome video- thanks
they didn't know how good they were
RIP Pete!!
