Great performance of this Powerpop standard. Pete Ham - what can you say? The Beatles George Harrison said it best - "a great singer." - Hudba
Badfinger should be in the Rock Hall of Fame!
Yes!
True
They don't require validation via such a circle-jerk "institution"...
Yes!!
Unfortunately, the deaths and drugs made their time too short to have the impact they were beginning to have.
2023 and still listen to them. My favorite then and now. Tom’s bass is fantastic.
I can't help but cry through their music. At 68, the sadness of their story breaks my heart.
Beginning January 2024. Love their music
@@stevencopley5487 Absolutely heartbreaking what happened to Pete and Tom. They could have won this lawsuit if they would have just stuck it out.
Corruption destroyed all of our classic rock music.@@stevencopley5487
you have also to have the money to pay the lawyers; they clearly didn't, having been stitched up . . .@@Real_g.s.
At 68 and having rediscovered Bad Finger in early 2023... I now cry through their albums. Their story is absolutely heartbreaking. RIP Pete, Tom and Mike. Love you forever. 😭❤🙏
Yes, terribly sad. Ripped off by their manager. Would have become a Supergroup. Superbly talented, great shame about passing of two main singers/songwriters. XX Rip Pete and Tom. Always be remembered.
Absolutely- 1 of my top 5 groups-maybe as good as Beatles-but swindled. Heartbreaking, hard to listen to without leaking...same with SRV.😢
Can't listen to Badfinger or SRV knowing their stories,
without tears-both cut down at their peaks...

@@glennwisk5452por isso digo ,se existe um deus ele se chama Egoísta e idiota.
Still one of my favourite bands. Tragic ending, gone way too soon but what a legacy. Totally under rated.
Yup they kick a**.
27 seems to be the suicidal age of many artists
I agree. Tragedy that should have never happened
NOT under rated . Screwed by a filthy US douche bag
I worked for his brother John ...in his Music Store... I met Peter a few times... he was a really nice guy... his death effected the family so badly they never recovered from it! I even played a few of his guitars... including his Les Paul Black Beauty and a Gibson SG given to him from George Harrison...as well as a Gibson EB3 bass ...
I never met any of the guy's . Like their family's i have never recovered from their deaths either. R.I.P. Pete and Tom .I am sorry for what that scumbag did to you guy's, if you could read my mind then you will at least have some satisfaction. The POS that drove you to it will be in the lake of fire for eternity and not one inch of his body will have been unburnt , he will be screaming in agony forever.
These dudes could write songs
Perhaps one of the most unappreciated bands from the sixties an all time favorite of mine
from seventies.
Amazing comment!
Brian Duncan - They were appreciated in the US back in the day, because radio played them a lot. Maybe they weren't recognized in Europe though.
I would agree. In retrospect they were a very good four piece band and Ham was a very good composer.
Great singer, great song, great band (that got fucked over. And over. )
Holy hell they sound even better live! Mind officially blown 🤯
Yes, I prefer to find live. They were so great. You can feel it so much better live.
You've got that right my friend. Outstanding live sound .
It's crazy, if you search this song you tend to mostly find live shows... but the thing about badfinger is that they're actually better live?! Listen to Tom Evans - he may even sound better here than the recording?!
They're better sounding live because the song was made to sound like a, "Super Killer Tune". This song Badfinger "Knocked it out of the Ballpark". It proves that they were a great band.
Don’t forget the superb amplification courtesy of Hiwatt to complement the talents of the band members
What a voice. What a band. What style.
Pete Hams voice is brilliant.
Never get tired of listening to Badfinger music. Tom's bass lines especially nice on this one. RIP Pete, Tommy, and Mike.
Jim . Hargett agreed
These guys were monsters! They had a hell of a sound. It all ended in tragedy, unfortunately.
Absolutely this band should be in the rock and roll hall of fame, it’s a shame how cruel the music industry is. Another story of a great band getting ripped off by greedy heartless scumbags management.
what a musical masterpiece by a true gifted british band, miss you fellas
Walsh band, after Scotland becomes independent then its wales turn.
@judis6224 😂😂dream on jock. Never going to happen, your masters said no and now you're stuck with a p@k! In charge 😂😂
This song is 50 year old already. How time flies. My favorite band.
The older you get the quicker it goes. I was a kid when this song came out - now I'm 60 🤯
Badfinger was a 1st rate group🤩

Indeed. Multiple guitarists and vocalists, very talented band.

So much more than that.

@@williebowen1043: Does that mean that they weren't a good group?
The tragedy of this band should be made into a movie.
Agree, would make a very poignant movie.
Then do it. Why do people say things like this without ever once considering that they could be the impetus?
Could be because I am not a fucking film maker. I think we should go to Mars, that doesn't make me an Astronaut.
There story should be made into more books and definitely a movie.
@Jacky J Jones Don't forget what happened to Kramer and his "treatment"; hollywood can be a strange place.
Cant believe I'm seeing this after nearly fifty years! 😙
Me too, God it's awesome!

Me Toooooooo ! :)
Pete you left us 46 years ago today but you have not been forgotten you will be long remembered “No Matter What”.
Badfinger IS in MY Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame!!! and that's the ONLY Rock Hall that matters to me!!! :)
This band was so incredible...the songwriting, the musical talent and the chemistry. I saw them live around this time and they TOTALLY blew the auditorium away! Me included of course (lol), I knew they were amazing...but when I saw them live, let's just say it was stunning.
Every time I watch a Badfinger video, I remember them as one of the BEST bands to come out of the 60’s and early 70’s, with one of the SADDEST stories. Yes, I agree, they SHOULD be in The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame...DEFINITELY! They were REALLY talented!
When the Beatles broke up, I thought " at least we still have Badfinger". Sad end to a great band. RIP Pete, Tom and Mike. Your music will live on forever.
Remembering Mike Gibbins born on March 12, 1949. He was a Welsh musician, most notable for being the drummer of the 1960's and 1970's British rock band Badfinger. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Gibbins
Pete Hamm was great. So sad he never reached his full potential
Hammy
He sure had a great voice. His diction was so clear.
Potental ? longer hair?
@@buckjohnson1119 His completion too
He did reach his full potential. It is shown in the songs that they released.
Look at these absolute rock gods! Badfinger were stylish af! And this tune so commercial. I am blown away!
Great performance and no doubt they brought this performance to life. If they were underrated it was due to poor management and cut throat practices that record companies follow because they're not musical Visionaries.
Pete ham had that great voice
Roy Biedrycki so did Tom....they were truly the driving force to the band
Amen to that
Amen
Roy Biedrycki
Pete Ham was a decent welshman. RIP Pete Ham !
Pete and Tom were so good sounded so good together miss them both and Mike too ❤ Badfinger
They were such great musicians, so good to hear the actual live audio for the video.
What a luxury to grow up listening to music like this with so much talent ,they were incredible!
They also wrote 'Without You' Nilsson just covered it.
And sadly 99%... well, at least a good 95% of people who know the song, don't know about it.
Nilsson didn't "just" cover it. His cover brought it to the forefront. A great song done great justice by Nilsson.
Without you was two songs put together by Pete Ham.
Without You is one of the greatest songs ever!
You young musicians beware of unfair greedy management. Badfinger got screwed.
Exactly
Hell yes they did the worst example of greed in the music industry I’ve ever seen destroyed them finically and took there life’s absolutely destroyed them
Michael Martin. Grand Funk and Creedence got screwed in a similar way.
Gary Light
Hopefully the perpetrator is residing in the hottest part of hell fires!
Back in the day the "standard contract" offered by major labels was a setup to get screwed. Don't know what it's like today (doubt it's much different), but _Musician_ magazine had a good series on the topic in '87-'88 or thereabouts. The business is a sewer and pretty much always has been.
I don't always listen to Badfinger, but when I do, I listen to No Matter What.
Wow, listen to that bass! What I great mix to listen to for anyone wanting to learn!! Tom is such an underrated bass player!
Rubikscuber1 Underrated! Like salt, clouds, or whatever is under discussion today. Underrated!

When the Beatles were breaking up,this band kept me going!!!!Thanks guys for the memories.RIP
Actually I believe the Beatles started this group and sponsored them
@@stevesteve1198 The Beatles produced some of their songs and put them on their new record label Apple Records.Paul wrote & produced their hit "Come And Get It"
George Harrison gave Pete ham that sg special guitar
Ronald Reagan
Cool !!
Ronald Reagan : Actually, the guitar Pete Ham received from George Harrison was a Gibson SG Standard, the very one used on Paperback Writer: czcams.com/video/yYvkICbTZIQ/video.html The SG Special you're referring to is played by Joey Molland, the guy on the left.
Such a beautiful power pop ballad. Badfinger were a brilliant ensemble and this song is at the top of their catalog
Ballad?
That....and Baby Blue.......
I saw them in 1972 at the old Steel Pier in NJ. I was 11 and so happy that my parents took me to see them, after much begging.
Great voice in a time where you had to be good... no studio tricks. One of my favorite songs of all time, so sad Peter ended his life so young.
Pete felt he didn't have a choice,we all have choices, don't get involved with America.
@@judis6224it wasn’t America it was a guy, Stan Polley. Springsteen, Petty, Queen to name just three artists were treated badly when they broke through getting paid a pittance or tied into rotten contracts but they managed to get out and went on to have long and successful careers. Many other bands or solo artists have been ripped off in the past. Sadly, Badfinger had two fatalities which should have never happened. They were two great parts of a tremendous group that deserved much better. We can still enjoy what Pete and Tom and the band left us, their music. It’s a shame they didn’t get to see how many fans loved them all those years later.
Love how the drummer speeds it up to super speed after Pete already set the pace with the guitar riff....lol. Oh well ...still friggin' great tune and RAW live performance... I love raw performances ... pure and awesome !!! Thanks for posting !!!!
I thought I was the only one that caught that, holy man lol slow it down!...and he just carried on like a pro
Just listened to this clip for the first time and yes, I'm thinking...why is it so fast ( towards the end). Thought it was just me!!!
Always blame the drummer... Timing is everyone's responsibility. If you listen closely you find it's the vocals rushing.
@nickmues437 I'm a drummer of 42 years. I'm the time keeper. The rest of the band are only responsible for playing with my time, not changing time. That's why we practice with a metronome. The vocals rushed because the drummer rushed first. I'm a studio drummer.
One of the greatest bands and songs of all time!
So many performances in the 60's were lip synced on TV. It's great to hear an actual live one.
seventies
This wasn't the 60s.
I love this video, fan since started, phenomenal piece of music
So many people thinking this band is from the sixties.
A great performance at that
Tears in my eyes In what could have been. These songs are timeless and even though their careers were short they belong in the R&R Hall of Fame!
Great band, great song, and fabulous vocalist !!! To bad Pete Ham
took his own life, as the guy could do it all, writer, composer, and
fabulous vocalist, plus play numerous instruments. Giant talent he
was, and this band had a lot more in them to give the world.
Well said Grant. Nailed it
Paul McCartney wrote some of their songs too

BADFINGER DESERVES TO BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME JUST BECAUSE OF THIS TUNE AND "WITHOUT YOU" ALONE! OF COURSE THEY HAD SO MANY MORE!
One of the few good real bands to come from the seventies! ...... definitely should be in the Rock and Roll HOF!!!!! .... We owe this to Pete Hamm! .... real recognition!
The best thing to come out of England in the late 60s, early 70s. Such a tragedy....................

Great live sound from Badfinger.
Great song.
Certainly one of the best bands ever. Live and recorded.
I really appreciate these guys. Their music lives on.
Don't forget Pete Ham also played more then guitar and was great at every thing he played. I was around 10 when this came out.I was blessed to have been born in 62 because all of 60s and 70s and even early 80s was the sounds of my youth.
Twig & Berries 1962👍🏼 the year I was born also✌🏼️
Same here (almost, 1963). Whenever I hear these songs I'm instantly back in our living room on a cold, dark winter morning, getting ready for school and listening to radio 1. I can almost taste the Ready Brek 🤗

Even though the band had such a horrible ending, so glad I lived in a time you could turn on your radio on a night out and hear the DJ say..."here's a new one from Badfinger!"
What a great song. Perfect from the start till the end. What a tragic loss Pete and Tom were at such a young age. All because of a greedy manager. Thank god manager is dead now and can’t do any more harm. I’m sure he will get his justice down in hell where he belongs. RIP Pete and Tom. ❤
I loved this when it was first released. I was 14 and knew nothing...but I knew this was fantastic.
So much going on harmonically and melodically, it's just a fantastic track. Thanks for posting a great live version!
Badfinger ( the 1970's decade's line --- up or band mates or band members ) is/are : the gifted Joey Molland --- lead guitar, background vocals and rhythm guitar as well as he is the only surviving Badfinger band member the legendary and late Pete Ham or Hamm --- lead vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboards the amazing and late Tom Evans --- lead vocals, background vocals and bass guitar the incredible and late Mike Gibbins --- drums and percussion ( And I also love the vintage, old and classic Badfinger hit songs called No Matter What,Without You and Day After Day as well as Baby Blue,Constitution and the rest of their remaining Badfinger famous, legendary and known Badfinger amazing tunes that are still available in this You Tube social media. )
The words and memories are still in my heart ❤️
One of the better live renditions !
Why aren't Badfinger in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?
Brendon Foley too short a tenure. But there’s never been a better band.
Period.
Probably because they weren't around long enough and don't quite have the body of music and others they did put out some really good songs but just not enough of them to be in the rock and roll Hall of fame
Wait! There's a minimum number of songs or albums to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? That's daft!
@@stepheneroh6712 Agree with you mate. There should be more than one metric to determine eligibility. If minimum years were necessary for election to the baseball HOF, Sandy Koufax wouldn't be in it cause he didn't play long enough. Yeah, I know it's a mixed metaphor but WTF.
@Mooch 514 Seriously, let's put NWA in there instead of groups like this. . .(not that there's anything with NWA, but completely different brand of music)

Ummm, no. Not this No Matter What. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Matter_What_(Badfinger_song)
Yes a very sad story for such talented singers and songwriters. All they wanted was to write good music, get paid for it and enjoy life. They did write great music. We all miss them.Where are the groups like this today?
MAGNIFICENT MASTERPIECE from MASTER MUSICIANS, phenomenal band, lifetime fan
Great band great musicThe world was robbed the day Polley became their manager!
I find it especially irksome that that slime was able to go on and keep raking in the bucks in the music industry, rather than being pilloried like the despicable slug eating, stank-mouth cheat he is.
