This morning my blood sugar was 223. Today, I ate eggs and sausage for breakfast. Salad and chicken for lunch. Pork rinds and sugar snap peas for snacks. Air fried fish and broccoli for dinner. My blood sugar was 83 tonight before dinner. My A1C was 11 last week. Hopefully my type 2 improves soon. Feeling a little better tonight compared to yesterday. I'm concerned I'll have trouble sticking to a low carb life, but I'm going to do it! Less than 30 gm carbs a day.

You can do a low-carb diet! I know it sucks at first but think of it as the sugar and the carbohydrates as the villains in your life because they are what made you diabetic! That should take a desire to eat that stuff away.. definitely works for me
You may want to look into Lewis bakery keto bread. I don't know if you can find it in stores but you can order it and have it shipped to your house. They have regular white bread and Hawaiian bread and it's 1 to 0 net carbs a slice. 9 carbohydrates but eight grams of fiber. It's kind of a cheat but you can still enjoy a sandwich here in there with that stuff. I'm limiting myself to two slices a day and just make a grilled cheese sandwich..
Perhaps look into a mediterranean-type diet. that helps a lot of people

Hi Kait. I want to tell you my success story and thank you so very much for all your help. In Jan 2021 I was told I had Type 2 Diabetes. I was 57 and that scared the hell out of me because I know someone that died with complications of Diabetes because he did not take of himself. I am 5'8" (172.72 cm) I weighed 252 lb (114.3kg). I had a stagnate life style. Worked a desk job at home. I was already on BP Med and Cholesterol Med. No surprise there. So he put me on 2 types of diabetes meds. So I started watching your CZcams channel. Changed my diet completely. Stopped the Carbs. Or drastically cut down on the Carbs. Followed your breakfast in one video. Started walking everyday, as long as my feet and ankles could stand it. About 30-40 minutes a day. Fast forward to Dec 2021 I had lost 35 lbs and my doctor took me off 1 of the diabetes meds. He was proud of my effort and my triglycerides level. However I am still on Metformins twice a day. I am not down 53 lbs (24kg), I'm 199 lbs (90.3kg) and I was super excited to see that scale not top 200 lb. I see my doctor again in July and I hope to God he stops the med or at least cut is down to 1 a day. I feel so much better now and I feel better about myself as well. I have pulled old clothes out of the closet that I out grew and now I wear them again. I can't thank you enough Kait for your very informative videos. I can tell you that you have helped turned this man around in health and the way I look at food. Thank you so much! BTW, I still plan to lose more, I would like to get down to 185 lb (83.9 kg). Once I get there well lets see if I can go lower.
To anyone else that read this. I tell you, listen to what Kait says and use it to your advantage and get healthy. You will thank yourself in the end.

I have replaced all those foods with steak & eggs, chicken, and fish along with vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, asparagus, and cauliflower. For fats, I use olive oil, real butter, coconut oil, and bacon fat. For beverages, I drink water, coffee with heavy whipping cream, green tea, lemon water, and electrolyte powder mixed with water. I also get at least 10 to 12 thousand steps daily. My hemoglobin A1C has gone from 7.8 to 5.7 in 10 months. Cholesterol is down to 162 from 240. Lost 35 lbs and 4 inches around my waist. I feel great. Thank You!!!

I had my second visit with a new endocrinologist and she told me flat out that she didn't know how to treat me. There are no meds just diet but she could not tell me any diet to follow. My Holistic Chiropractor put me on the Keto Diet. World of difference. Your information is perfect. I am also working with an Herbalist that has me taking Bitter Melon. Big difference. I am a PCOS woman who has fluctuated weight all her life. I lost weight about four years ago with Nutribullet smoothies. They are still my go-to for getting back on the wagon. I had no idea I was making unhealthy smoothies for myself. For most people, a strawberry/banana/apple smoothie is probably fine, but not for me, who has insulin resistance. Weight was improving because I was improving my calorie and nutrient intake, but I didn't know it was doing nothing for my insulin problem and PCOS. I would personally love a more detailed video about decent smoothies for people with insulin resistance...not with the idea that we will have them every day, but so that we can have a smoothie we can enjoy without spiking our insulin. Thanks for all you do, Kait.

I’ve done avocado, peanut butter and a dash of organic cocoa powder and a tsp of MCT oil and they are pretty good also.

You got me off juice back when I first discovered your videos. Soda and deserts went as well. Margarine is something that my specific health issues won't let me agree with you on. I like Smart Balance margarine on the one hand, and cheese and butter can, in excess, give me pain across the top of my chest. I love the stuff but must keep it's use to a minimum. I thought rice and pasta were healthy foods before, but it has not bin hard to cut back on that now that I've come to understand you.
One thing I will keep in my diet is Homemade Corn Bread. I did eat too much of it in the past, but it will always be part of my monthly meal plan.

Hi Kait! Great list. I’m think some people can’t just eat dessert once in awhile. Sugar is highly addictive. Many bad foods do cause us to crave it.
I personally can skip out on a lot of processed foods. Since I do not have any major health issues, it’s not a big deal to eat if I go over 30 grams of carbs. I am better at low carbs when I cook dinner. If my health did have a major problem then I would be more strict. I was pre diabetic. I could easily be diagnosed as pre diabetic if I do not watch out or balance things out.
So many people do not realize the food industry purposely put ingredients to keep us addicted.

I use fruit juice or dried fruit to flavor water along with ground cinnamon, stevia, and drops of vinegar including komboocha vinegar, fruit vinegar, or switchel vinegar. I make smoothies with fresh or frozen berries and home made high fat yogurt that's 1:1 ratio whole milk to heavy cream and sweeten with stevia. I make a parfait as a sub for flavired yogurt using my home made yogurt, fresh berries, and pecans. I found recipes online for pasta made of Parmesan instead of flour and eggs, some with xantham gum some without. I recently started eating 1/4 cup of over night quick oats as part of my breakfast along with protien like meat, eggs, or cheese. The overnight oats have dehydrated berries, live culture yogurt, pecans, and cinnamon along with whole goats milk. As for baked goods, u can use things like coconut flour. With rice, sub with coconut flour. If u don't want to make noodles, u cam buy shiritake noodles instead. There are healthy subs or healthy ways to do a lot of the things we like. For instance I made mini meatloafs yesterday using coconit flour, a knock off potatoes salad using diakon radish and Mayo made with only olive oil, raw onions, and mushrooms sauteed in olive oil. It looks and tastes the same as the real deal without tons of carbs and hydroginated crap. The meatloaf used a mix of 80% lean ground Lamb and mild Italian sausage for the meat, but u can use whatever meat u want

I see rice, bread, & pasta are bad (as expected)
What about potatoes? Apparently they are not AS BAD (or they would appear on the list like rice & the others did), but to what extent are they better? Are they simply only not AS BAD but still very bad, or are they actually OK?

I only drink alcohol on the odd occasion and very little at that but many people who live to be 100yrs old usually have their favourite tipple eg whiskey, rum ,wine etc once per day. Apparently there's benefits of one shot of a spirit or one pint of lager, bitter, Guinness etc per day.

Fructose doesn't affect blood glucose directly but is taken to the liver and is converted to fat if the blood glucose level doesn't drop, thus leading to fatty liver. Due to the structure of the sugar it exists (in a higher proportion to glucose) in the blood in a straight chained form and thus reacts more readily with free amines found in proteins to form AGE's (Advanced Glycation End products). It has been noted that in centenarians the presence of AGE's is very low and mouse models were conducted to investigate if AGE's had an effect on lifespan. Healthy mice were fed AGE's and compared to mice with an identical diet without AGE's. The lifespan of mice fed AGE's was significantly lower. (for CZcams information look for videos by LUSTIG and Lustgarten)
    (Lower fructose helps with lifespan)

What about low-carb tortillas? Being mostly plant-based eater with a few exceptions. I eat tortillas every day. The very small fajita sized ones and I fill them with beans and veggies and a very small amount of rice. We’re talking maybe a tablespoon of rice per tortilla times two tortillas for lunch or dinner and then filled with beans and veggies

Sugar had been a bit high this past 6 months. I am thinking tropical fruit is my problem. I did not know. Been eating a ton of it. Will cut tropical fruit out of diet and hopes it helps.
Also can you some time touch base on how much effect exercise has on glucose levels. I am 65 and very active. Ride a bike about 6000 miles a year (10,000 mile in 2018), in good shape to where I am ready for my next cross state ride. Go to the gym about 4 X a week for hard work out. I can do better pushups then my gym teacher, take Les Miles classes, not chair yoga.

Getting rid of bread was one of the harder things but also one of the better things
    To happen
these days I eat more than thought I would and have really no need for bread products..
But every now and then I’ll happily go for a croissant or brioche.. not good, but at least it’s lower in carbs than most breads.. but I usually pay for them with a good walk afterwards..

When you say alcohol is bad for insulin resistance do you just mean any and every kind? I ask because I looked up Crown Royal because that's my favorite alcohol and it says there's no carbs or sugar in it. So as long as you don't mix it with anything with sugar or carbs you should be fine right?

What is considered ''high heat'' in cooking? for example is cooking an egg over easy in a small pan considered high heat? (the burner itself does go to medium high in intensity to
cook a couple of eggs overeasy in a couple of minutes at most) I feel more explanation into what is considered ''high heat'' is extremely subjective, I think you can get away with
cooking or I'll say ''grilling'' steaks on low heat, if they're lean enough, or small amounts of pasta or rice, but some dishes might take too long to cook in low heat all the time, I imagine,
(especially for families where portion cooking demands higher heat to make meals more quickly right?)
