Would have loved to see that beautiful old 2 stroke engine restored as well
People always use these vertical shaft engines when they aren’t made for speed. There are 4 speed semi auto engines for cheaper and are definitely faster
That's not really that old of an engine or kart. It just has mud rubbed all over it.
@@worldssickestmedia2713 It's probably 30 years old
@@youbannedmealready5825 it's got vented rotors and hydraulic disk brakes. It's got modern Bridgestone tires. When he pulled the back wheels off the purple anodized aluminum hubs were still nice and bright. Anodized aluminum parts fade. Especially purple and red anodizing. The fiberglass parts aren't old, dried and splintered. The clear plastic material they use to make the fuel tanks usually gets a dirty yellow brittle tint to it it after about 10 years. The engine looks to be an air cooled IAME motor that's still in use today. That and I've never seen a road racing cart ever in the history of everything with mud all over it. Ever. Those karts are 2" off the ground and have slick tires. You can't get a road race kart to go in a grass field. Much less mud. I own an engine shop that specializes in two stroke race karts and motocross engines. I also hot rod Stihl and Husqvarna chainsaws for people in the logging industry. It's an older cart that's been sitting up for a while and someone rubbed mud all over it to make this video. That's one thing I know for 100% certain. They rubbed mud all over it. And if you do want a vintage 2 stroke engine restored. Get in touch with Absolute Engine Solutions in beautiful Lake Lanier Ga and I'll get ya hooked right up.
That's what I'm saying
the only problem I have, is that he didn't clean the kart before hand. it makes things much easier.

The only bad thing is you replaced that racing engine with a garden roto-tiller engine that is much slower. You should install a clutch on the engine to make user friendly.

It really bothered me that they ditched the 100cc. Those engines are FANTASTIC.
Jo no
You speak my mind

I was completely and thoroughly engaged in this restoration until 31:49. Then you lost me. Can't believe you would replace that beautiful old 2 stroke powerplant with a rototiller engine. This go kart deserves better.
And he put it back together dry, no oil or grease was used!
Yep, I thought the exact same thing.
My words and thoughts exactly. What a waste!!!!

You forgot to include the initial step in this video. Salt water and hydrogen peroxide are the main ingredients here 😂😂.

Total amazement that, the amount of rust , was only surface affecting, and had no eaten through any of the major weld points of the frame, engine, discs, rods etc
This educational video has revamped/recalled or resurrected my memory of when my old neighbor Ronny Anderson used to own one of these back then during the mid-1970s. That's a go-kart.
Imagine how fast this vintage go-kart with anodized parts would have cleaned up with a pressure washer at the beginning. However, that would have only lasted 3 minutes. I've also never seen someone dye sand red vs washing it away.
Think im gonna have to call horse crap. Noones going to leave a 5k racing kart outside long enough to "rust" and rust doesnt come off that easily.
on a cart like this you don't use a motor like that. you build one that is made for racing. that motor would get killed by other carts.
How far in advanced did you spray on the salt and mud, just to clean it off.
I don't get why so many "restoration" channels do this... there is so much old crap out there to restore for real. You can tell from the exhaust pipe that a leaky corrosive substance was sprayed. Probably some sort of peroxide solution. You nailed it.
@@TheJimCramer Because it'd take much more work to "restore" it. They'd have pitted metal from the rust and you'd have to do some major grinding or bondo to get an actual rusted item back to the way it was new.
even the nut and bolts dont corrode
Cause they can't rebuild shit only Clean.
More like ”cleaning a brand new go-cart left outside for a couple weeks”
Its a miracle to see how he magically wiped away rust.
As a driver myself I really appreciate this being done 😩
Would be interesting to see what it was like if you had just pressure washed it. Close-ups showed what looked like an awful lot of the mud and dirt had been smeared on to make it look far worse than it really was. Also, many of the bolts you removed the threads were still shiny.
It does look suspicious, the surface rust and mud looks like it was put on purpose so it could look worse than it actually was, click bait
Yeah, this is typical Internet fluff …
beautiful restoration of a 10-15 year old go kart with a little rust and a lot of dirt. Also, restored a 15hp 2 stoke racing engine to a 5hp tiller motor.
Race engine 100 CC have 25hp
12hp 390cc engine to be exact.
20 to 22 depends if its a rotax or a tag @@davkemerke6084
I’ve never seen REAL RUST come off with a very light wire brushing. That’s amazing 🙄
I just l Iove how these guys can take something that's perfect and make it perfect again. Probably took them longer to make it look like crap.
So true
I used to race karts like these. I had a rotax, and then a 125 stock shifter. Before that, 3 and 4 hole can Yamahas when I was younger. Some of the best memories of my life, by far
👆👆congratulation you have been selected among my shortlisted winner's.👆 👍👆
Nothing like a little soap to clean off half an inch of mud and salt that was sprayed on a day ago
"Billy Mays - Orange Clean" is everything to know.
You have to have the patience of Job to carry out a restoration like this. You are crazy!!
You learn so much from CZcams, you even learn a great deal from the comments section.
Never knew how big the karting community is, so many comments about how the wear on this kart seems to have been artificially applied. Careful with what you put out lest you get called out
Not sure if the rust looks real! Everything came apart so easily! Very suss!
No go on file, belt sander all the way. That and media blaster are my best friends for my restos. Great job guys!
My son and I built one years ago from a 100cc bike engine, plastic canteen seat and older kart wheels and tyres. It drove great with good acceleration and cornering. I wrote off some seven and a half inch wide plastic slat chain on a job so we made some circles, let the rear tyres down, slipped the slats over and pumped up the tyres - BOY was that fun, it was like driving on ice, never had so many spins in my life!
Eventually it got sold and moved to Robin Hoods Bay in the north of the uk, I often wonder where it finished up.
My family used to have very similar karts in the early 80’s we had so much fun playing on them, watching the video brought back childhood memories best decade ever I say the 80’s.
👆👆congratulation you have been selected among my shortlisted winner's.👆 👍👆
I guarantee they didn't. This is a brand new kart.
For something that rusty, it sure is nice to see everything that wasn't exposed directly to air completely rust free. Must have been super nice that none of the bolts were seized and all had perfect threads. Curious as to how you got that lucky with something in such apparent bad condition...
You can use zinc to make rust skin
@@tbladee i think he's being sarcastic :)
Because he's a loser and doesn't restore anything. They saying everything down with salt water and vinegar let it rust for a week and do whatever she did in this video.
He not
I have a margay brava 4.2 from 2004 I believe. It’s well worn, and I can pull if every bolt no problem. Karts don’t get thousands of miles on them or exposed to salt and shit like a car would
“Who needs a clutch lets just have no stopping without the kill switch”
-this guy
It was a good restoration until you cleaned and sprayed the tyres. You should have problably changed that since they have several flat spots. You also welded the chassis that was already painted. The plastic could have been be fixed for scratches and damages. But the worse part is the engine swap. The original one deserved a restoration and changing it with a four-strokes one is causing a heart attack to a lot of people.
100%
he did. look, later, in the video. he uses brand new ones.
Not to mention it looks like he reused them damn brake pads...That made me mad because you should never reuse bad brake pads, it's dangeroous and practically a death wish waiting to happen.
@@adriengrossfeld5660 It doesn't matter if you don't have a clutch to stop anyway lmao
Thanks for posting these videos. I’ve been watching your channel for a while, and I realized there’s something I really enjoy about it; you capture what I loved doing as a child - watching my Dad work in the garage.
He’s deceased, and I’m now a Dad of my own. However, there’s a part of me that still wishes he were here to look up to and watch at work in the garage. Something was special about seeing my Dad, who always seemed to know what to do in the garage. Just like you do in these videos.

Buying stuff off craigslist to spray with salt and a vinegar and water to leave out back in the weather for a year pays off lol. Also shaking the parts a little extra when pulling them off does too haha

20 years ago I had one of those air cooled 100cc karts, the same exact engine too. My stomach dropped when I saw you put the 4-stroke in. 😔
May I ask why you abandoned the glorious 100cc music maker?
ikr those engines are just faster and they sound better
@@unkn0wn_racer They have the potential to make almost 3x the power.

@@dewworm1666 you ran it on jet fuel or something ? cause a regular gx 200 stock is pushing around 5-6 hp

So much for an engine montage. Looks like it would be fun to ride.
You can restore the plastic bodywork quiet well using linseed oil and white spirit. There's a few videos on CZcams showing how to do this and that and new decals is probably the easiest way as they'll get knocked about pretty quickly. I'd suspect she'll need new bearings all round too.
Love this go cart.
I'll name it the purple people eater.🤗🤗
Parabéns pelo trabalho......
Excelente serviço.....!!!
Ficou especular......!!!
You have way more patience than me. When I do a racing kart restore, I have the frame hot tanked at NAPA Auto machine shop, $125. You are very thorough and more patience than most people. Great job and restore; my hat is off to you.
that dirt looks a little too perfect
I think it looked good enough for the work that was put into it. I wouldn't call it a restoration but rather just a cleaning. Good old soap and water for most parts. If that is restores something, then my dishwasher restores our dishes every night. Videos to come...
A few things make me suspicious this go kart was made in that condition for the purposes of shooting this video. After clean up you can see wear on areas that would never been worn if others are not also worn. The floor which is the most punished area is fine. Also no dents, bent areas on the chassis while paint is heavily chipped - by what may I ask? Doesn't look like a genuinely aged thing that was used.
was thinking the same thing. look like the dipped it mud over a weekend and to a flap disk to to paint to make it seem worn.... plus dose not matter how much wd40 you spray it you dont have clean threads it would take some wiggling
It is, he made it looks dirty
Yeah, I notice that 🤔
Does it matter? It is still satisfying to watch
@@elektronikadlapoczatkujacy2111 it isn't and the fact someone will probably has to explain this to you is so depressing I won't even dare going there
That Kart has only had a couple of buckets of dirty water chucked over it!
You can see the water tracks on all the vertical surfaces.
I'd expect a neglected Kart to have a rusty axle and brake disc, oxidised alloy parts and a bit of dust on the horizontal areas.
Satisfyingly result though! 👍
this is totally believable. i also keep on finding go carts in the river that needs to be restored
Lil tip: Remove that sprocket off of the GX390's shaft, and put a centrifugal clutch there. The way the clutch works, is that when you start the engine, the kart won't move on its own, then, when you increase the RPM, the clutch kicks in and it starts to move. I've put them on all my mini motors like that, they are cheap and easy, and if you really want to put a dime in, you can get the gopowersports Juggernaut torque converter, i put it on my minibike and it works great!
Came out looking great don't get me wrong. But I definitely would have stuck with that original 2-stroke motor.
Awesome, this has inspired me to do the same on my nitro RC car that's been sat on the shelf for about 2 years covered in nitro fuel and dirt 😄

I used to race Karts in the late 90s / early 2000s, and this took me back to those days. I raced Rotax Max 125cc.
Not sure why you put a Honda engine on the kart at the end, but it was cool to see something from my era being restored - nice work :)
Because they can't fix engines LOL
Because they probably didnt have the equipment to start it
No clutch
Inspiring me to get an Go Kart …😎😎🚀🚀🥁🥁
Absolutely great restoration-without doubt !!!✌️😎😎🥁
So disappointed that the original engine didn’t make it back on.
That purple on those sprockets is amazing... LOVE the work. Great restoration!
não usou o mesmo motor ?
isso era a parte mais interessante
kkkkk ele popou esa parte e boto motor novo e pronto kkkkk
Love that Makita screw driver. Like to get one.
Replacing the original 100cc engine with a gx390 is absolute sacrilege! I was enjoying it up until then. You can pick up period engines for about £200-£300 (the price of a gx390)
Needs a 2 stroke rotax! great job though!
Looks like they just dunked a perfectly good kart in a puddle for a few days and the. did some shitty rebuild with a roto engine lol.
Light surface rust and anodizing is still fine lmaoo.
Now that’s beautiful anytime you restore that’s rusted piece of junk & take so much time & effort to restore to make it beautiful? Job well done.
Simple pressure wash would have been about 70% of the restoration. But this was a good deep cleaning!
1:40 RIGHT THERE. Purple anodized aluminium in MINT condition. Otherwise this is a cathartic, soul soothing restoration video about restoring nice condition cart covered in a lot of dust.
Do you have a magic formula you use to create the mud that you spray over everything to make it look more neglected than it is?
agree
I am looking forward to you building a swimming pool in the jungle next.
It's amazing how satisfying removing rust with a wire wheel can... except when it isn't
In surprisingly good shape considering how it was left to rot. Good materials.
Nice restoration, but you needed a pressure washer a centrifugal clutch for the tiller motor ,and you should have rebuilt the 2 stroke engine that was on it.
To much work he's used to throwing mud some water vinegar and salt to appear rusted remove it clean it and done
That seat at the end 😳 👌
The frame I used for racing in the early 1990s
I really enjoy doing projects like this too. So satisfying to bring something back to life
Weird that the paint was worn in a vary circular pattern… almost like a wire grinding attachment took the paint off. Also very minimal pitting on the steel as if it had only been rusted on the surface with a rusting agent for a few days…
Because it was.
I liked the sprocket just welded on to the output shaft of the engine. No clutch.....Must make for some really fun stopping and starting.

Not really a restoration, but a deep cleaning XD
Proč se tam nedal ten origo motor
Also the way he sprayed the seat was smart
Its pleasant to watch but mostly smoke and mirrors. I hope nobody really believes these are items found in the middle of nowhere or under a bush or in the salt water. But like i say its a pleasure to watch .
