On Xmas eve i straight piped my Liberty Walked Maserati Granturismo and on the test drive it was crashed into by someone who wasn't insured. He was a car valeter at work driving someone else's car. The car wash said they would pay for the repairs using their public liability insurance. But it wasn't that easy ... To top that the damage is worse than i originally thought.

Under the Road traffic act, if the Van was insured, (despite the fact the driver may not be) then that insurer has to cover the third party liability, meaning that they will have to pay for the repair of your damage.
It would then be for that insurer to take a civil claim out against the car wash owners.
Alternatively the Motor insurance bureau, have an uninsured motorist fund which in the right circumstances they use to pay out for incidents involving uninsured drivers.
Matt- You are far too decent. You shouldnât have to fix it or pay for it yourself, even though it creates mor content, itâs irrelevant. They are scum bags and what goes around comes around. They will get their just desserts. The difference is, you will succeed because of the type of person you are, and I donât think Iâm the only one to notice how far you have come. Disagree. They need to be fully prosecuted to the full extent of whatever wussy European laws you have. The criminals are going to damage someone else's stuff or just rip the off in the future who CANT AFFORD TO FIX IT THEMSELVES. Its the socialist attitude of letting criminals go, or "no big deal" why the world is going to shit. Very disappointed you didn't do the right thing, which would be to bring these guys down.

Love your positive attitude, but I feel that you should still report this guy. He'll have moved his business elsewhere and if he couldn't do the decent thing and sort out your damage, imagine the damage he is causing to other cars when washing them. Plus fixing this yourself is costing you..
He's just letting them get away with it, its terrible. Europe is terrible. Those guys should have to pay for everything, they've just moved onto the next spot to rip of the next people. Doing nothing, is just enabling the shit out of these criminals.

You should go after them let your insurance work for you since you pay for it. Plus these guys are the ones that make insurance expense now a days. Hunt them down and hit em with the full book of the law lol
It doesn't work gettingbthe insurance co to sort it, I tried this with a 405 estate which had a lot of useful life left in it after it was hit while parked and the van driver drove off. They wrote it off, Cat.C, more expensive to repair than their (low) valuation. I bought the car from them as scrap and repaired it, but it cost more than it would have done if I had just fixed it because I had to have it professionally inspected and then inspected by VOSA before I could tax and insure it. To add insult to injury, the car passed an MOT before I repaired it, the damage was trivial, but inclded a cracked front bumper.
Never mind it being a Maserati, imagine it was a single parents Saxo and their only way to work or whatever itâd be written off if going through insurance for being a non-economical repair. Some proper scumbags around
They were middle eastern and all probably here illegally they just left and moved the car wash to another location and do the same thing again police will do nothing and them kind of people dont care what they do to others. Yet we have the border wide open for more to come and do this.

The crazy thing is i had a hit and run on my bmw f30 M performance on Saturday.While i was helping at a house fire.like you mate im paying for the repair myself.Same area hit on my car aswell but my headlight and M performance lip ect was saved.just pushed the brackets back.But having to replace the bumper skin and getting it painted in the next few days.My heart was broken mate so i know how you feel.As my f30 is my project car that ive poured loads of time and money into it.

I feel your pain. Sorry your luck was so bad on that day Matt I've been there myself when building a car. When mine was mid build and looking like a patchwork quilt of colours it never had anyone damage it but once it was finished with a prize winning paint job it was hit causing massive damage to several panels and no surprise the knobjocky wasn't insured.
Ignore the negativity. We all know how the car looks at its finest đđœ Big up to you going this way. Going with insurance would've made it much worse.

Report them to who? The police wouldnât be interested, even if you had their names and addresses. Theyâd tell you âthatâs what car insurance is forâ and any insurance company would be even less interested unless you had the details of the driver and his policy details which we all know will be non existent. Reporting things all sounds well and good in theory until youâre in one of these situations yourself when you quickly learn that no one is interested unless itâs an easy job or thereâs enough money likely to go in their direction. Itâs like when a house gets burgled, the police wonât turn up unless they know who it is, otherwise theyâll give you a crime number and tell you to give it to your insurance. This is the âliberal utopiaâ Britain has become.

Theyâll be untraceable. The business and its ownership will change names regularly. The police arenât interested in things like this because itâs paperwork and investigating out ways the reward for them.
Criminals - it looks deliberate to me. I had a van reverse on me as I entered an Esso station. I hit the brakes and leaned on the horn but at least there was no collision. But this guy should not have been reversing and he knew it.
Even when this happens you can't help but get those nashers out for a big smile. You are such a positive and talented guy, I have no doubt it'll soon be back looking great again

For the front bumper u can get a fibreglass body filler we use to repair cracks on bumpers it looks like toffe so that is an easy repair

@Mat Armstrong hey mat i really need so advice my aunt drives a Nissan micra 2008 model it's been giving her problems lately.when you start the engine up it runs smoothly for few seconds then lose power it can't even accelerate we tryed the trick you did on the S3 with the fuel,didn't work and also changed the petrol pump and the worst thing is the diagnosing machine doesn't see anything pls mat i need your helpđđœ

Yep best to just fix it as soon as you involve insurance it'll be a write off.
I got hit once on a duel carriageway from behind the usual the guy in front dabs the brakes I lift and the guy following too close didn't So I had broken rear light and some scratches or scuffs on the rear bumper.
I rang my insurance to claim. They asked the usual what happened, how fast were you going? 65-70mph what's the damage. They asked if other parts were damaged rear wing,door exhaust??? which was no. They said they would come to collect the car for assesment.
The next thing I know I've got some bozo on the phone saying he's collecting the car as Its a write off. so I rang my insurance and they said the car was a write off ( even though nobody had looked at it at this point) So I asked why, and they said I'd declared damage to the rear and side of the care in a 70mph accident. When I explained the only damage was a broken rear light and some scuffing in the rear bumper . they came back with the epic "Well thats only what you can see." And proceeded to read me the riot act about the damage in a 70mph accident.
So I asked about taking the money and buying the car back and they said no we will take it and destroy it as its a Cat A
I had to point out that the impact speed was more like 5-10mph and the damage is minimal.
The Car Bozo and the insurance called me contantly for the next 3 days to collect the car askng where it was. "At work with me" was the reply. They couldn't get their heads around that the car wasn't damaged other than a broken light and that I was still driving it.
In the end I went to an independent garage for that brand and they replaced the rear light and checked everything underneath and said there was no other damage.
So the next thing I've got the insurance assessor on the phone saying I need to come and see if the car is repairable. and that I must make the car availible.
so I said I'll save you the bother it's fixed!" ( He wasn't happy)
I then had the insurance on to me about the car being CatA and can't be repaired.
at which point I told them straght you haven't even seen the car the car isn't a write off the damage was minimal A broken rear light and a scuff and has already been repaired.
So I then had to cancel the claim and send them photos of my car to prove it was repaired and then they removed the CatA as the car had never been assessed and no money was paid out on the claim. Absolute balls up!

Loving the positivity about this but personally I'd chase every angle you can get police involved give adrian flux a call as there really good a may offer you some advice on what to do an you never know you may still be able to claim from the van owners insurance get CCTV footage aswell cause how many more cars are they going to get away damaging and then doing a runner without paying up they need to be made accountable Mat, look forward to the Maserati being back on the road!đđđ

In the netherrlands we have a fund for incidents somewhat like this. When you have CCTV proof of the incident and as much proof of who did it, you can have a expert come to visit, report and give a price for repairs. That price will be given to you so you can choose what to do with it. No need to have insurrance go thru it.. they prob wont even be able to do anything.

They were middle eastern people probably here in UK illegally and would all of given fake names so no way of even trying to find them police will do nothing to help so no point wasting time and money to find them even if you did they will deny it all and disappear as illegals can do that they have nothing to track them with.
