When this cyclist encountered a fault with his gear shifting, the mechanic of the crew tried to fix the problem.

He adjusted the hollow adjust screw that is passed throught by the wire that selects the gear. It's a simple fix if you know but the way it's done here it's a real big achievement.
You can fix the bike, but the cycles can not touch the car, disqualify

Mountain biker here, i can assure you many many riders have manually adjusted their derailer.
Yea I bought a mtb last year, first thing I did was adjust it. Had too take it in to get fixed after messing everything up

The cyclist is having a rest though, surely that's an unfair advantage.
It's okay in most races if they don't let him hold on longer than necessary. They do this in the back of the race at low speed the cyclist needs to get back into the race afterwards there's no advantage.
Being a biological male in a female competition is far more advantage than that

@@ZomgLolPants You're allowed to get a push from your team car when your bicycle needs maintenance. The judges of the race are in another car watching everything that goes on. The Tour de France starts in July. What's a couple of stages to see what complications happen at the beginning of the race. It's a 22 day race.

It's not hard actually. He's adjusting the tension screws on the derailer. It has 2 or 3 screws, most of the time 2 with common bikes, 3 with mote expensive bikes. It adjusts the arm up and down for one screw and in and out for the other. You can do it yourself while riding if you have a small screw driver and a smooth enough ride to reach back and down really quick to make small alterations in it. This guy doesn't have the ability to do so because he doesn't have the time to take any chances, he's in a race. Don't make it out like it's that hard is all.

It's not an emergency fix on the gears. If it was the cyclist would stop the damn bike before the chain flies off. This is a common way that bikers cheat by hanging onto the side of the car to rest a bit while they get pulled along.

If it went down the exact same way it did but Armstrong was German or French or something of the like, those titles would still be standing today.
Again, it all came down to Anti-American sentiments that are deep throughout all of Europe, and they ultimately couldn’t stomach the idea of some American, a cocky Texan no less, coming in and dominating them for 7 years in a row and becoming the undisputed GOAT of cycling as a result.
