It's a crime Rain,Smoke,Ermac & Reptile are relegated to being a move each for MK11 Shang Tsung when by now they are completely different & not pallet swaps & are much demanded legacy characters.

To be fair though, Ermac, Reptile and Smoke (as Triborg) were playable in MKX. Rain didn't even get that treatment despite being coded in the game.
Smoke, Ermac and Reptile got two 2D games in a row though.
Sure some have had 3 now, but I'd say having Skarlet/Kotal in the main roster was more important than those 3 imo
Knavenformed umm no Smoke was not playable in MKX and don’t say Triborg because that’s not him cause that would be like saying the chameleon characters are the same people as all the ninjas they copy off from.

If we're going with the story in mind he's pretty much in MK11 already.
Rain, one of the few characters that can turn his opponents into human rockets. How else can you explain them traveling the entire globe just to end up on the other side of the arena lol

It's legit one of the main reasons I didn't buy the game at launch. I then waited for the DLC pack to see if he'd show up. Nope! Didn't buy the game at all.
I like that you can tell something was up with Rain in the UMK3 Attract mode. The font looks different, it's not slanted like the rest of the names.
I hope you continue this series. However starting with the underrated characters (like Tanya, Stryker, Kung Lao, etc.) instead of the most popular ones like Scorpion and Sub Zero.
It's absolutely my intention to focus on the more niche characters. Everybody knows about the main characters. I wanna showcase the less appreciated roster!

I'd love to see Shinnok done. I know he gets a bad rep as a boss, but he's one of my favorite characters. MK4 and MK:Mythologies hold a special place in my heart. They expanded the universe immensely.

Thanks for the shout out! I'd like to shout out Zpaul2fresh8 for his work on the game also. Paul gave us the new select screen, tag mode, MKT brutalities, random fight ladders, endurance mode, corrected attract more bio stories, and a few more things I can't think of off the top of my head. Team Plus is the best!

Rain started as a Prince reference (Purple Rain), but seemed to have turned into an impressive combo fighter with a high skill cap. The forgotten or disrespected Rain is most certainly the most dangerous.

Him not being in MK11 is a crime. Thats legitimately the biggest thing holding it back and damn near everyone was mad/disappointed they skipped him
He was in MKX, but they didnt even bother making him playable...
Him, Ermac and Human Smoke should have been in MK11. It's a real shame they were left out.

It should be a crime to introduce any character into the canon, make players get used to them and then completely scrub their existence from the franchise instead of making them playable for all games.

Did you know Rain's lightening in UMK3 is unlimited?
He could be good potential as a character choice since its god fight mode *sorta now.
NRS: "We have to feel inspired when adding characters like Rain..."
Also NRS: Adds Jaqui Briggs to MK11, yet leaves out characters like Takeda, one of the more unique characters of the 4 Kombat Kids back in MKX...
I'm failing to see their inspiration here...
Yo, FOR EFFIN REAL! Jacqui was the lamest by far. Takeda is waaaaay more interesting.
@@camgoodkicks The part that kills me is Kenshi isnt even in the game either, and seeing how Takeda is his son, they could've had him use his father's sword ON TOP of all the shirai ryu and telekinesis attacks he already had. Making him into an even bigger badass than he was before.
But I guess *"Chick with guns: Number 3"* was a higher priority on their list...
If anything, Cassie and Takeda should have been the only returning Playable Kombat Kids, while at the very least Jaqui and say Kung Jin could have been the NPCs in story mode.
Takeda could still end up DLC in K2.

BLOK- -HEAD I can’t stand Jacqui AND Cassie, I would’ve gladly taken Sektor and Cyrax over those two clowns any day instead of them being made unplayable NPCs in the story mode which btw Ed Boon lied to us about promising not to do that again.
Rain is such an underrated character who a lot of people in the community still only sees as a joke, never to be taken seriously. But since I played him for the first time in the SNES version of UMK3, he's been one of my favourites alongside Jade, and I would love to see him return once more as a fully realised playable character! ♥
Who sees him as a joke? I think I hes a well respected character in the mk series, most of the ninjas started off as jokes so I fail to see how rain is any different.
@@channelisgone4180 there are threads in mortal kombat forums where people would discuss their fav characters, and any mention of Rain would lead to ridicule. The greater fan base, before maybe MK9 or 10, never took him serious
Every time I see MK9 combos I'm reminded why I sunk at least 2000 hours into that game.

Would love a part 2 now that he's in MK11. Once his character is out a bit and we see exactly what tech is discovered about him of course.
This is my favorite Mortal Kombat Kontent on CZcams and one of my favorite overall CZcams series. Thank you for all your hard work on researching, capturing footage, and explaining in depth tech. These videos always inspire me to return to the older games.
What I love about him is it was a half joking tribute to prince and the made it real even making him a Prince.

I love this sort of "Competitive history of..." style videos, and this is REALLY good. In fact I'm disappointed it's the first, I was looking forward to bingeing on the playlist by the halfway point! Clear, informative, and uses language that most people would be able to follow. I'm subscribing just so I might see more of these with other characters! As for the length, this felt about perfect. But I can imagine that some of the long runners who have been split and merged multiple times (looking at you, Sub-Zero) might be so long multiple parts would be necessary? Anyway, great job, I'm off to check out the rest of your channel!

After MK9 I was left with three mains. Smoke, Kabal, and Rain. I'm glad that Kabal is back for 11, but I certainly feel just a little cursed to never have my boys back in the same game again.

Yeah I like them both more than Jax and Sonya who apparently need to make it into every game. Yet when any ninja who isn't scorpion or sub makes more than 2 games in a row that's stale according to ed boon lol.

I remember playing the MKX story for the first time as a brand new player, fighting against Rain, thinking his moves looked cool and he looked fun to play, then feeling crushed he wasn't playable. Honestly feels like a missed opportunity.
Fingers crossed we get an MKA-9-esque character design if he's in a Kombat Pack

Great stuff. I like this sort of thing. I know you're trying to expand your media empire, videos like these would be great as a podcast as well, especially if you're making a series. I mean this could just have the audio don't need the picture really. Even if hardly anyone listens to it to start with you've done the work already so you aren't losing anything. Then you can get interviews, get celebrities on and talk to them about growing up playing mk etc.

Fun times. Rain is the first kharacter I started to learn at a higher level back in MK9 around 2013-2014. Still one of my Mortal Kombat favorites, and the starting point for a 6 or 7 year obsession that now spans multiple franchises.
I personally really enjoyed the video and love the idea of the series, I hope you're able to do more

I would love to see more videos like this for other characters that haven't made the cut in too many MK games. Like Chameleon, Tremor, and the boss characters (Shao Khan, Kintaro, Goro etc.)

That didn't age well.
In UMK3 on Genesis Rain was able to permanently lock the opponent in an ubreakable chain of lightning attacks as long as you hit the button perfectly.
I was looking for this. I thought it made him at least borderline op especially if you could set up a lightning bolt you basically had a touch of death combo.
Rain in MK11 was fun to play as but I’ve always loved how he would effortlessly get these huge damage combos like he did in MK9
I think that and the creativity of his combos are what his gameplay identity needs to be about

Damn this video hits different. I remember how awesome it felt to play Rain and how creative you could get with his combos but also feeling let down that he barely had any tournament representation. Everytime I boot up MK9 I immediately go to Rain without hesitation. Hopefully he'll be playable in some way in the near future. Competitive History of Kobra next? 👀😂

Out of all the crazy juggles youve shown, mk9 rains are the most visually pleasing to watch.
Rain the purple ninja he’s play style was so fast and hard hitting when combining and his lightning and water based attacks put together deadly and if you seen him competitively you would know why og fans love this guy and the Super Kick was just ridiculous and the Water trap forget about it

His mk9 review of rain depressed me, hes the character i learned my first 33% combo with not knowing how to juggle, convert or even launch yet. The normal rain combo made me the fighter i am today.

correct me if im wrong but when you mentioned Rain being the only character in the roster to drain your meter, i could’ve sworn Cyrax has a similar ability when you amplify his net trap, nonetheless awesome vid on how this character developed!

When I got the notification, I thought it would be rain’s competitive players and his wins and stuff in tournaments
Barely anybody actually played Rain in MK9. The only offline player that made a huge dent was Cd jr at Summerjam which I already covered in my MK9 MK Meta. This is about high level play, not players.
I think this video was incredibly well done! You should continue it for sure. Personally I would love to see Mileena, but I also think doing this with characters that don't get a huge spotlight first is a better idea. Keep up the great work!

MonkeySharkPro never really understood why they go out of their way to make the model and give him a full set of moves and specials, just to make him unplayable. Tanya was unplayable too but then they made her DLC. Rain has gotten no love since mk9

@@WastePlace Because they sadly care more about giving non-MK characters priority. Four horror characters were in MKX, yet Rain and Baraka, who had full models and moves, weren't made playable. We have Terminator of all people in MK11 and yet Cyrax and Sektor aren't playable.
Emperor Alonzo and now freaking Robocop with MK3 style Cyber ninja skins for him 😑
I'm even saltier that he's the only NPC Opponent that didn't come back.
