  • 450 Bushmaster Federal Powershok 300 grain JSP ammo ballistics gel test fired from a Ruger American Ranch with 16 inch barrel.
    Range gear: masonoutdoors.com
    Leather gear: www.masonleather.com
All shots are fired from a distance of 100 yards to encompass the majority of common real world hunting scenarios.
I will be shooting into 10% ballistics gel from www.clearballistics.com that has been calibrated to meet the FBI ballistics testing protocol.
While ballistics gel isn’t an exact proxy for big game, small game, predators or defensive situations, it does provide a repeatable medium through which to test various bullets and ammunitions against each other.
With each type of ammo tested I collect data on bullet penetration depth, bullet weight retention, bullet expansion and muzzle velocity.
For reference, bullet expansion is measured at the widest expanded point using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Caliper.
Bullet weight is measured using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Scale after having removed as much ballistics gel as possible from the expanded bullets.
Bullet velocity is measured using a ProChronoPal chronograph set approximately 7’ from the shooting bench.
I am fully aware that a chronograph measuring bullet velocity from 7’ away from the muzzle is going to register a slower velocity than if velocity were measured directly at the muzzle, but that difference is going to be so small as to be all but irrelevant in regards to comparison of actual measured velocity versus factory stated velocity.
My goal with these ballistics gel tests is to provide hunters like you and I with the most objective information possible to help us make the best choice for our particular hunting situation.
The results of these tests are my own and I cannot guarantee the same or similar performance on your part. The views and opinions expressed in this video are solely my own.
All videos are filmed in a safe and controlled environment on a private range with all applicable safety precautions by a trained professional.

"why do you shoot a 450 bushmaster?" "cause they don't make a 460 bushmaster"

  • @mr.mr.3301

Federal has quickly become my favorite ammo manufacturer.

Good review! Devastating bullet. Shot a medium sized whitetail last year with these out of 16”bbl AR. 50 yd shot, hit like a sledgehammer, knocked him back 3 yards, stone dead. Golf-ball sized exit out the shoulder. Hits like a 12 gauge slug but more accurate than the old lead pumpkin balls!

This channel will soon become a go to reference for all things ammo. Love the consistent structure of the videos with very minimal time wasted. Hope it works out financially for you, as I'm sure you're not getting the gel for free!

Nice review! I switched over to Barnes Vor-Tx 250gr TSX after seeing your other review on those. Hoping they do better than the Hornady Black.

I was looking 👀 for the Ballistics on the 450 Bushmaster rifle and I found exactly what I was looking for. I made my decision to purchase this rifle because of this video. Great video bro. 😎

If you plan on hunting with this ammo, Skip this ammo and jump right to the Fedal Fusion! You will thank me later because you will recover more game. If not the Fedarl Fusion ammo then look for a solid copper alternative. These and the Hornady & Winchester cup and core bullets that are NOT bonded and do NOT consistanty have full passthrough. They typically blow apart and provide very limited blood trail. This is just my .02 but I have taken many game with the 450BM and have first hand experience. These might be ok for smaller whitetials that are indicative to certain areas of the country but if you live in an area that has a solid diet of corn and beans, look for a different bullet.

  • @tracyfry6818

The 300gr bullet is way to heavy for the 450bm. It doesn't produce as much k.e as a 250gr bullet. Sorry but poor proformance for the 450 with the heavy bullet.

I just received my cuff you made for my marlin 336 30.30. Thank you sir for a beautiful well made product! God bless and take care. Again, thank you!

  • @edeldridge36

These did pretty well. I thought the penetration might be down a little because a 300 grain bullet in .452 caliber has only a .210 sectional density, which is on the light side for game like deer. But, it did pretty well. If I had a 450 Bushmaster rifle I would definitely try this load.

You’re living the dream bud I wanna be like you when I grow up

Thats a beautiful death flower. Never had an interest in straight wall cartridges but i watch because i appreciate the work you put in to making the videos.

  • @louv4437

  • @BoltHunter22

I would like to see a review on Federal Fusion 450 Bushmaster. Love the content!

  • @billhendon1017

I’ve got some of them. Haven’t hunted with them yet. Looks like there going to do fine!

  • @tylertapp131

Good stuff, i can tell you this, they definitely work lol. Every deer ive used this on dropped on the spot and ive never seen a deer that didnt have complete pass through. Hits like a truck and pins everything to the ground like they're strapped to a boat anchor lol.
