    Thank You Sir, for mentioning SDI, I've been looking for something to do in my retirement, which I can enjoy, make a little money, along with making new friends, and gunsmithing just may be it.
    My own background, I was a combat Infantryman USMC in Vietnam, and later became a Scoutsniper. I shot a high expert with the M14, in boot camp, at 100, 200, 300, 500yrd targets used it often as a sniper rifle in
    Vietnam. Actually I prefer it over the Remington 700. This was 1968, at Scoutsniper school we shot at 200, 300, 500, 600yds, with 500yrd point of aim point of impact. Of course at 2/300yds, you hold under target, at 600yds bullet is dropping, so you hold over target.
    PS, I hated the M16.

      If you look up a scout rifles heritage, it is meant to use a long eye relief scope so you can have max peripheral vision of your surroundings. Don't want anything sneaking up next to you out of the bushes while you're zeroed in on your target through the scope. Also makes the rifle incredibly well balanced and easy to carry.

    Ruger just sent mine back. I had some cosmetic and stock issues with it. They replaced the stock and load tested it. The gun printed a three shot group all in the same hole at 50 yards about a 1/4” to the right of dead center with test target they sent me. They also sent me a few extra metal mags with it. It’s a beautiful gun. Reminds me of a lee enfield Jungle Carbine. Just like my old American Ruger replaced with this gun it prefers FTX type bullets. Any type of blunt pistol type bullets struggle to smoothly cycle in it. I see you had to work the bolt a little to get the rounds in the chamber like I do with both Ruger 450 BM models.

      That's a piddly little cartridge! It's fine for Indiana but you'll want a .30 caliber rifle if you venture west to hunt.

      @@The_sinner_Jim_Whitney key word: almost
      I'd venture to say that. 308 or .30-06 is about as close to a universal cartrige as you can get. Load down to 110 grain for varmints or up to 220 for moose and bear

    • @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney
      @The_sinner_Jim_Whitney Před 4 lety +1

      jordan hicks I live in West Virginia. I don't hunt, but back when I did I almost NEVER had an opportunity for a shot over 100 yards. In the Appalachians, you're hunting in tight valleys with dense tree and brush cover, from hillside to hillside, I'd say the average shot on a whitetail deer here is probably 60 or so yards. .243 is an easy round to control, shoots super-flat, and won't destroy a whole lot of meat, and kills them dead as a hammer every time at the ranges we hunt at. We have no need for retaining energy over 5-600 yards' distance like you folks out west do.

    I've always been blown away ( pun not intended) with how good these Ruger rifles are. They are short and make perfect deer rifles. Where I hunt is very heavy with brush and these big pills work good for getting through the buck thorns . The nice thing about these big boys is you can opt for a lighter projectile and stay around the same charge and pick up a fair amount of yardage . They seem to work real well .
