It does at first! Just try to take it slow and remember that it might not fit all tempos too! Play at whatever tempo that suits you and experiment with it 😃✌️

Take time out of your practice to focus on your technique. Find the fulcrum of the stick and use a proper grip that is comfortable for you, personally I adjust grip accordingly to muscle memory for whichever parts I'm playing. Slow the metronome as much as you need (60 bpm is a good start). Concentrate on your downstrokes and upstrokes, many drummers find that awkward feeling during upstrokes, when you find that balance between your fulcrum and technique you will know. Practice this consistently and continue increasing your metronome speed as you progress and the results will show. Also can't stress enough how important, yet overlooked rudiments are. Practicing all rudiments will benefit you in every way around your kit. Start with single stroke rolls, double stroke rolls, etc. That hi hat groove will be a cakewalk.

Sometimes it helps to look at the details- check out the angle & height of the forearm in the demonstration (in relation to the hi hat cymbal). Sitting to low or high can affect this!

I never really play open-handed (with my left hand), since I don't have to haha. But I could definitely try to make a video on it!
What you can do for now, is to take just a simple groove, and instead play the hi-hat with your left hand with the right hand on the snare.
The more you practice, the more your muscle memory will adapt to it.

@@ThatSwedishDrummer Your excuses for not being able to play with traditional grip are far from being, "Subjective". While attending Berklee College Of Music in Boston, ALL my instructors, including fellow percussion classmates were and are proficient in both grips. Famous drummers such as. Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Vinnie colaiuta, etc. Excel in both. Nothing for you to be embarrassed about, once again, it's never too late for you to learn. I recommend you start getting comfortable with traditional. If you're trying to be an "Educator" with exercises in drumming on a social platform, it's best to show and give your viewers an option.
