Hey everybody! I just uploaded a killer 30-minute warm-up that's perfect for applying these techniques to. Check it out here: czcams.com/video/E1ceyKwDepw/video.html
I've been a drummer for 20 years and have had to pour through various media... books/teachers/videos to learn alot of what you teach in this 12 minute video 👏
Pore*
@@boethius1812it’s pour 😂
Came to say the same.
Dude, this feels like the most productive 12 minutes of drum tutorial I’ve watched….thank you!
Love it, thanks!
I am a "beginning beginner " got headache from watching all different videos "how to " and after viewing those videos I got more confused then before viewing those videos.
Seeing Jeff's video ALL became completely clear in 12 minutes. Straight forward, and that is the way it has to be teached and shown. Thanks Jeff, this video helped me a lot.
I agree!
I once heard a wise man say, "Break it down to me like I'm a three year old!" Jeff, thank you for simplifying the art of drumming! You have taught an old dog new tricks! 👍🏽💯
Jeff is hands down the best beat teacher around here! Clarity + brevity + practicality!
Thank you sir!
Totally agree!
Brevity?? Good word!!
True, and also a funny comment due to the video being about hand technique.
@@rab46290 😆
As a teaching drummer of over 30 years, I have to say Jeff that that is some of the best teaching of grip and techniques I’ve ever seen. I love what you left out as well. No talking about where on your index finger the stick should stay, just get it on there. A lot of the grip has to be discovered. I like the golfer Ben Hogan’s quote it’s something like, “the answers you seek are in the dirt.” Your playing sounds amazing and your production is over the top. Congratulations man for making amazing videos and thanks for sharing your knowledge and your enthusiasm.
Wow
A teacher who actually teaches and not just wanting to show off.
Thanks for the lesson
Now this is a proper teacher, doesn't scare you but Inspires you 👌
Not a drummer, but LOVED this demo... nicely done, sir!
My father just taught me how to read sheet music and the basics to start with rhythms before he died, and I had my doubts about how to hold the sticks, and with these techniques you helped me a lot. Thank you!
This video about 4 Hand techniques is useless to me, because sadly I've only got 2 hands.
😂
I've actually never heard some of these techniques explained so well. In my own personal experience these techniques require skill and experience, and I gained them and subconsciously applied them naturally after time, more and more efficiently by the year. This is a great launching point.
The best part about this lesson that I learned in the first few minutes is that you don't have to commit yourself to one or the other grip lol. You use them both or any portion of the gray area.
I played many years as self taught I was basically trying to reinvent the wheel throughout. Since I plateaued and started to cycle back to the bare basics this video was the best, most straightforward, didatic and clear that I found. Thank you
This is the first video that I’ve seen someone explain the push pull method this way and I been trying to learn it for months and with this video it took literally 5 minutes. THANK YOU
I’ve been playing for 40 years been on here on CZcams for years never commented about drum videos but I have to say this is the best thing I’ve ever seen on here as far as clarity techniques explanation not to mention you are an incredible drummer well done my friend
Thanks James!
So great someone finally stepped up and did this video. I am really happy for every beginner to now have access to a lecture that brings together what I had to condensate by myself over the years watching hours and hours of videos on hand technique. You were able to accomplish that in 12 minutes, which is a big deal! You are really doing an excellent job at preparing and presenting your material. CZcams education par excellence! 👏
Big thanks! I noticed a void on YouYube in regards to a practical look at all the different techniques and did my best to remedy that. Going forward I want to address each of the techniques in more specific ways but figured it was good to start with a crash course of sorts at first.
@@JeffRandallDrumming Jeff, this was an awesome class! Thank you. I can wait to see the next classes, when you will address each of the techniques in more specific ways!
Very well done. Condensed in one video all the must known drummers hand techniques. Thank you very much Jeff
Just found this channel and I'm so glad that I did! What a solid video on hand technique, thanks Jeff!
This is a brilliant video. So inspiring to see drummers who have obviously worked so hard to achieve where they are, sharing insight and techniques for many to benefit. I love the drumming community! Cheers Jeff!
I needed this, searched around and never really learnt a thing, but you just show it how it is. Thank you.
Thank u so much Jeff!!! Merry Christmas 🎄
I just got my first drumsticks and practice pad yesterday to begin learning drums, and this video was really good for tips on how to start and a preview of what comes next. Thanks for a great video!
Haven’t played drums in a very long time going all the way back to the basics and working my way back up. Thanks for your videos!
Dude, I've seen so many videos about techniques. But this is the only one concise and structured. Thanks for the effort!!
Never too old or play too long to learn something new or refresh something. Great teaching
Excellent as usual Jeff!... Thanks again for the great lesson
Thanks so much for this. I love it!
I recently started to learn how to play the drums, and I didn’t know in full how all this came together, it all makes sense now. Thanks so much for the help
It took me years of practice and exploring to learn this, now anyone can realize these in a few minutes, concise and very well explained
Great lesson. Easy to follow, with great examples on how you can use each technique
This was great, without ego and full of useful, helpful stuff. Greatest thanks.😊
Yes sir! awesome!! Jeff, your videos are very informative.. we would love to see more videos like this… thank you Jeff!
Excellent , simple, straight forward approach on a topic that's been beaten to the ground.
Thanks!
Amazing the amount of A+ information that you packed here in 13 minutes. This is the best summary of the most useful hand techniques that I have viewed thus far.
Your lessons just keep on getting better! Phenomenal information and production value.
Thank you. I needed this! Super clear explanation and demonstration.
Awesome sum up, perfect video!
Hi Jeff, what excellent teaching. Your breakdown of the push pull concept was a great help. Thank you!
Thank you for breaking it down like this!!! Best instructional on hand grip. Love how you applied the push/pull to the different styles. Time to get to gettin - practice time!
Amazing video!! Haven’t seen anyone explain all this so well online🎉
This is the first video I have watched on your channel and this is wonderful, I think what has really affected my drumming is the way I hold the stick, thank you so much for this
This is a really nice presentation, Jeff. Thanks for your thoughtful and well-articulated insight.
Jeff, you are awesome! This is a clear, concise yet detailed lesson on the foundations of drumming. Much appreciated. And man, you groove really hard too!
Love your laid-back but very informative and direct teaching style. Excellent demonstrations- thanks for sharing this!
Great lesson Jeff, I knew little pieces and you kind of joined it together for me and filled in the gaps, thanks so much. Got to say, your kit esp. your snare is killer.
An absolute masterclass. Hats off !
The best instructional video about drum grips all over the internet. Jeff nailing it again! Great!
Thanks again Jeff. You explain it all very clearly and your camera angles and editing makes it really easy to see what you are talking about.
And, man, those hats of yours sound sweeeet! 👍🏻
I just ordered my first training pad and sticks, I am definitely using this video for reference when learning.
Just starting out and looking forward to getting some practical practice in now with these techniques. Thank you so much
Wow...I never could get the push/pull technique down, and you taught me the proper technique/mindset in 20 seconds. Thanks!
Thank you Jeff for taking the time and energy to share. Seems like you are helping a lot of people like me, reach up to another level of proficiency and enjoyment
I just started drums a week ago and this is the best lesson I've found so far.
Awesome! Thank you very much for your knowledge! 💪
I love this lesson! I have watched many lessons, for I am 53 and just beginning, but your finger squeeze on the push pull has never been explained so well. Thank you!
Thank You For This Helpful Video to improve our handling of sticks
Just want to say, I really appreciate your channel here on CZcams. Keep up the great work brother!
thanks a lot Jeff i'm new to your channel but already satisfied with the way you simplify drum lessons especially for beginners like me
Thank you SO much for putting this video together. I’ve been so confused about hand technique and you really laid it all out in such a simple and understandable way.
Been playing drums for over 20 years(on and off, main instrument is guitar), and have seen my share of videos trying to cross over to the next level, and my search is over.
Good complete explanation of the different techniques.
Dude truly amazing video!! Taught me everything I been looking up in one place
This is the best explanation I’ve ever seen by anyone. Thank you! I also now know what I need to do to progress and am much further along than I realized! Absolutely fantastic. New subscriber here.
Absolutely top notch Jeff. Puts a lot of info down in an uncomplicated and concise manner.
Dave, East Lothian Scotland
The best explanation that I've ever seen. Congrats 👏🏼 👏🏼
Great information. Thank you kindly!
It´s really important to have a good technique to be able to play any groove with the sound that we want and that we hear in our head, but also prevent injuries. Very important video!
Wow!!! This is my very first exposure to Jeff Randall. I'm an instant fan! I'm super impressed with Jeff's playing skills/style, the amazing sound of that kit, and the practical way he teaches. Now, I need to get to work on this stuff!
Jeff, keep on the good work. Your videos are amazing!
Well done, You seem to make it very easy to comprehend that technique.
Thank you for putting out the video.
Above all your explanation is by far the most simple and easy to understand. You’re genius. Thanks. Subscribed right away. Can’t wait for more useful tips.
Great video. Appreciate the practical demonstrations at practical speeds versus the showing off of these techniques.
You have a great easy going, but deliberate method of teaching.. nice work.
Thanks I really love this video, why because of the way you teach verbally communication was key and the demonstration of mechanics on how to perform this technique made it more simple to understand. You are a good teacher and I like your style of playing, thanks a lot I subscribed to your videos.
This is the best video on the topic simply because... it's simple. Other drummers tend to overcomplicate or make things "seem" easy. This is great. Thanks Jeff.
This clip is excellent!
Explanation parts are concise and easy to understand. The sample videos after each explanation show good detail of drummer’s movement from drum stick, finger, palm, hand, arm until shoulder. I think the lessons from this clip can be used for 1 year practice for beginners !
Thank you so much for making this nice video ! 👍🏻😁
I started with Drumeo at 15. 5 years later here I am feeling truly inspired again thanks to Jeff... so glad I found this guy :,)
Thank God! Jeff is the only drum tutor who explains drum hand technique candidly & simply! Rock on dude!! 🙏🏽🌹
Fantastic! Thanks for this. Your explanation of the push-pull technique really spoke to me. I've seen other videos, just like you mentioned, that have you picking the stick back up on the 2nd stroke and I've found that is hard to do well. But your explanation here is much more intuitive, so thanks again for sharing this.
That was incredibly helpful, thank you 😊
AWESOME Video! I appreciate the time you took to make this, definitely a game changer for me! Thank you so much and God Bless🙏🏾
Thanks a lot! I'm totally new to drumming and am soaking up all of the advice I can get. I especially liked the "jazz on the ride" part of describing push/pull strokes, as it helped the technique immediately click in my head. That "chhh ch-cha-chhh" is unmistakable!
I definitely needed this video extreme metal uses push pull singles all the time for blast beats and never heard it explained like that good work
A BIG thank you for providing indepth drumming information and easy to follow instruction. Your personal drumming skills inspire me to learn your techniques.. My drumming has improved as soon as i began practicing your techniques and Iam enjoying to play the drums more than ever before.. Your an awesome teacher. All best wishes.. Thank you very much..
Matt Shaw..
This video is incredibly helpful. I was stuck playing the same bland beats thanks!
Thank you for this explanation 😍❤️
Thank you for the great detailed guidance 🙌🏻
This is an absolute template of how drums (or anything really) should be taught on CZcams! Keep it up!
Excellent, straightforward video. Thanks 👍
Great video, very informative and encouraging. 🙏
Thanks for all! You are a good teacher!
simplified, comprehensible and putting it to practice in 12 minutes of educational bliss.. thanks Jeff for access to more "sawhzz" in drums :)
This is one of the best videos for techniques thank you so much!!!
I have only been drumming for about two years. For me - this is hands down one of the best videos out there.
As everyone has said this is an amazing video and even an experienced drummer can learn a lot and open up their playing skills with this info. LOVE IT!
The most helpful and most educative channel I have came across, I literally improved because of this channel😭🔥🔥
Great man. Thanks! 🙏🏼
Great explanation! I've been playing drums for a while but I felt like I have plateaued, so this month I've been making an update! Hand techniques learning more rythyms, getting into jazz, and started brushes! Been seeing a difference in my speed while using less energy and strength. Stay active and keep adding more to your portfolio!! 🤙🏻
Way to get that SAAAUUUCE! 😆 When you originally explained that modification of the push/pull it was pretty helpful within days of working on it. You make a great educator because you aren't worried about showing everyone "who's boss".
Thank you, Jeff, for these awesome videos! Have just started drumming while having only sticks and a drum pad. I have discovered the whipping stroke by accident while hitting my things. That was the only way for me to generate a rebound and learn how to relax my fingers and wrists such that the sticks felt like arm extensions. Good to know it has more applications :) Looking forward to more videos from you. Now on your drum pad exercises...
