*please don't call all rock shuffle grooves a 'variation of the Purdie shuffle'* i suppose rossanna and all other shuffles are now 'named' a variation of god Purdie.
My favorite CZcams drum teacher
@@mtavarez4561 🙌🔥
This lad is a good instructor. Besides breaking things down slowly and progressing gradually, he has EXCELLENT vocal interpretive skills. When I was his age, all we had -- I know, I know, "I walked two miles in ten feet of snow to my drum lesson" -- was a record that we had to raise and lower the needle a thousand times to figure out parts like those double-stroke fills mother-effers like Ian Paice were doing on Deep Purple tunes. Later, it was cassettes and then when CDs came about, we thought THAT was high tech. Cheers, lads. At 65, I still practice 2 to 4 hours EVERY day.
I very much appreciate your kind words! Thank a lot for your support :D
This kid has a way of simplifying and executing things that could seem very difficult to play at first glance and listen. Sign of a great instructor.
Thank you so much for your kind words, bud! I appreciate that! :D
You play these grooves with such grace and ease, man! I hope to get as good as you one day 🤩
Thanks, man! And you will!!💪🔥
The Rosanna shuffle is the bane of my existence! Thanks for the breakdown bud, it’ll help💪
It’s a tough one! But I hope this helps out 😃🙌
This was an outstanding lesson video!! Great player+great sounding drums+excellent teaching+relevant notation shown=two thumbs way up my friend!! This video should be required for all drum set students.👍🔥🔥🔥
Thanks a bunch!!
My friend, many have explained it to some extent well... but you have gone beyond. You did it slowly, and you explained the details, you went into detail.
Thank you so much!!
Happy to hear you find it helpful, buddy! Huge thanks for the kind words!!
Your feel is great, straight up!
Thank you kindly!☺️🙌
My favorite particular kinds
Of shuffle are the fast swinging double
Shuffles you know Albert Collins style,
Srv style etc...
This is awesome🔥🔥🔥
Glad you like it 😃🙌
This is the best shuffle lesson I've ever seen! Well done and explained, bro!

Thank you for all the great stuff you share and teach.
Thanks for the kind words, Gregory! 🙌🔥

The Rosanna was played nicely, nice tempo too.
Big ups!!🙌😃🔥
Again, your breakdowns helps me so much!
Happy to help out, bud!!🙌🙌
Insightful video. In Bernard’s video I love it when he says: “ Don’t worry bout da ghost notes! Ain’t nuttin but rebound!” Lemme splain sumtin to ya! Great shuffle demo. Thanks for sharing.
Purdie's such a charachter! Love it 🔥
Thanks for watching, bud!
Wow, thanks so much for this! Crystal clear in every way: verbally, visually and with a very clean notated transcription. And all in 15 minutes. Right on!
Thanks, Tom! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙌🔥
🤯 nice!
🙌😃
Awesome video! very informative and explained very well. Thank you!
Thanks a bunch! :)
CJ make a video where you show us how to tune the toms and snare👊🏻💯
Perhaps later this year!
You can check my snare tuning video here: czcams.com/video/fMnEokqmAzQ/video.html
@@ThatSwedishDrummer Alright friend, thank you👍🏻
Just one addition: it would be nice to have a jazz shuffle, Art Blakey style, as well. Basically the foundation of the Texas shuffle but more loosely swung and with different dynamics.
Aw geez… I’ve been working on these for YEARS and you play them all really well.
Interestingly, I’ve just earned a slight improvement in my ability to play these grooves just by watching you play them from this camera angle. Somehow, being able to see it done properly from this viewpoint must have given my brain something it needed to decode how these are done.
Thanks boss!
😎👍👍
You’re most welcome, bud! Keep up the great work 👊🔥
Very good.. you're the best..from Indonesia here❤
Thank you! 😃
I love your explanations. Also in other videos. Thank you very much
I'm so glad you enjoy it! Cheers :D
Thaaankss bro🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Glad you enjoy it, Martin! 🤗🙌
Lovely shuffle grooves! Thanks for teaching❤
You’re very welcome!
This is perfect! I’ve got to learn a half time shuffle for an assignment in 2 weeks so I’ll take that Purdie shuffle 😅🙌🙌
Awesome!! Good luck with the assignment 👊🔥
Thanks for help with the Purdie shuffle. Wonderful demo. CHEERS!
Happy to help out, Christian! Thanks!
Snare sounds delightful
Thanks!🤩
Well done nice sound as usual and great break down of the subtle differences between each song , it’s so cool how purdie, porcaro and bonham, have this piece of history. There is another “Sting” if I ever lose my faith in you
Thanks, Paul!!🙌😃
Really like what you are doing Bro. For me you are one of the best drum teaching master in the world. You are simply the best I learned much from you.
I’m honored, buddy! Thank you so much for the kind words 🤗🙏
LOVE the sound of your snare.
🙌🔥
I have watched some of your videos now, and as a Swede I recognize much. Might be stuff that is common in Sweden? You have great explanations and teach very well! In "the shuffles every drummer should know" I do count in some blues shuffles (I have mainly played the blues). ZZ top with La Grange is interesting. He only does the shuffle with his left hand. His right hand goes straight on the highhat. The playing on the rim-thing, also has a shuffle feeling to it. Since it goes kind of fast, it is difficult to hear what he actually plays, but variations are possible. Anyways, I think drummers should know some blues shuffles too. All the best and keep up the good work!
👊🔥
Great vid. You, sir, are very talented!!
I appreciate that, Jim!!🙌
Great video. Huge fan of Jeff Porcaro, John Bonham, Bernard Purdie, and now you. Shuffle is a spice of drumming you must have in your cupboard.
Thank you kindly!!
Yeah I agree!😃
Hey ,you did an outstanding job,on demonstration of the Shuffle. Thanks..
Thanks for watching!
Love these shuffles. Gotta work on them asap!
Nice!!

Thanks for your kind words! I appreciate it 😃
Rock on!🔥
That was the best way to teach how to play Rosanna 😊
Thank You
Glad you like it!!
This video came in at the perfect time for me, awesome video!
Glad to hear that! Thanks Lex ✌️🔥
Thank you so much for this
You are most welcome!
Purdie makes me wanna sing Rosanna 😄
✊🔥
On the Rosanna shuffle, I add from time to time a kick at the same time as the last snare drums just before the double kick. Jeff does it in the original song. And it gives variety to the groove. Awesome video. It tooks me a real couple of weeks, playing the Rosanna every day before mastering it. Then to groove it, it requires months. I think I m getting there now. Cheers bro and thanks for the video.
Huge thanks, buddy!!😃🙌🙌

Thanks a lot, buddy!

You're very welcome, mate!!
I got it Sir. Thank you.
All the best!
Very nice! 👏 Great explanations. Love the breakdown and gradual step up to tempo. Nice work! Tasty groove too ( Bass player here 😎🤘)
Awesome! Thanks 🤩🙌
I looooove your drumming and your sound!
I appreciate that! Cheers 👊🔥
Really tasty stuff. Absolutely gorgeous. Brilliant video. Thank you. 😀👍🏻👏🏻
Thanks a lot!! 😃🙌🔥
I love Groove lessons. I am now a fan on your channel.
Thanks, bud! I appreciate that!🙌
Shuffles change by region. For example the Texas Shuffle is a west southern style. Then you have the Detroit Shuffle, The Chicago Shuffle, The L.A. Shuffle, the New Orleans Shuffle, the Memphis Shuffle, the Atlanta Shuffle and the New York Shuffle. These Shuffles developed decades ago and really took off during the Jazz era of the 20's. Then continued to develop as music genres changed etc.. Nice sticking on the grooves !! Keep On Drumming !
🙌🙌🙌
Great video…keep them coming!!!!!
Of course!
Thanks a lot bud!!😃🙌
Great, thanks!
You're most welcome!
Didn’t realise how hard the purdie shuffle really is. Thanks for the vid
It's tough, indeed!
You're most welcome!
Hi ! I was looking for shuffle drumming and found your video now you got a new follower ;) Great Job !!!
Thanks! I really appreciate that :D
This is great!!
Thanks, Trevor!🙌
Heyy Swedish,.... that's awsome,,,,,!
Thanks!!
thanks man' I already had the foot work right , but seeing it spelled out as you have done for us , I am just going to have to put in a lot of practice to get the hi hat & ghost licks on the snare right !
Awesome!!
awesome vid thanks !
Glad you like it! Cheers!
Excellent playing. You should consider the shuffle by Frank Beard on La Grange. Killer Texas shuffle with the bass drum doubling with the left hand on the shuffle and quarter notes on the right hand.
Awesome!! Thanks for the tip, buddy! 😃
Good job (Thank you ขอบคุณครับ)
Thanks!
You are a born teacher . Very clear and clean explanations. BTW< You really do sound like the greats you mentioned and then some.
I appreciate the kind words, buddy! Thanks a lot 😃🙌
Very good. Thanx
Thank you so much! 😃
Awesome as always!!!😊😊😊
Thank you kindly!🤗🙏
O.lala..awesome 🥁🔥
🙌🙌
Nice sir thank you
Glad you like it!🤗🔥
Really fab insight into the various shuffles by breaking them down and thanks for sharing. Great playing and the tight but resonant drum sounds and clear Paiste cymbals sound really good (I mostly use Paiste 2002 and Signature).
Regards from a 67 year old 1/2 Danish drummer (hence my surname ... Lassen) based in the UK.
Cheers!! :D
As I don't have the means nor time to do physical drum practising (neighbours and busy working), I tend to do mental drumming to begin with which, I think, nobody has mentioned yet. I listen a lot, break it down in my head and slow it down and then I can do something on a practise pad and tap my foot on the floor. Can anyone else relate to this?
Your videos on this are very informative so, thank for this.
Sometimes I do 6/8 or 12/8 without realising it and people have asked me how I do that but I have no idea as I haven't broken it down at that point. We keep learning of course!
Sounds so good dude! Cool channel. Shuffle walking bassline will work nicely.
Thanks!!😃🙌
Hey Brother, I been playin' more years than U probly been alive, and I think you're one of the best players, but more importantly *_TEACHERS_* of this beautiful art we call drums that I've ever seen! I love your sound, & ESPECIALLY that awesome snare! It's a great sound, and the haters probly got a sub- $1K electronic kit with an "808" kick & "cannon shot" flanged '80's snare patch, lol!!! 💥🥁
Wow!! Thank you so much for your kind words and support, bud! It means a lot to me and I’m so happy to help people out with this awesome instrument that is the drum set 😃
Looking forward to see you around on my channel 👊🔥
I learned alot of u brother 😊
Happy to hear that, buddy! 😃
Complimenti per la tua professionalità
Solid lesson, buddy. I need to try them slowly one beat at a time haha
You got this, bud!
Thanks 😃🙌
Good playing.
🙌🙌
“What are you doing with your life?…” haha! Love it!…… Subscribed….🤩🤘
😉🔥
Fantastic Tutorial!!
Thank you! I'm glad you think so 🔥
@@ThatSwedishDrummer 🙏🏽❤️🤩🔥!
Hello CJ. Lots of comments here. Great vid. I play all of those, except 4 Texas shuffle. Never practiced left hand shuffle w/backbeat. I think it's hardest one. There's version of it called "swing shuffle". It's how Buddy Rich would shuffle-I don't do that either. Need to hit shed once again.
Thanks!
Yeah it's quite tricky at first, but if you practice at a really slow tempo - you're gonna do fine!!
Good job ...💯💯
🙌thanks!
Texas Shuffle: Check!
Purdie Shuffle: Not really.
Purdie 12/8 : Not even close
Bonham Shuffle: Yes almost.
Rosanna Shuffle: Won't ever happen in this or the next ten lifetimes 🙃
One of the many things in these types of grooves for me that makes it hard is the ghost note before or after accent on the snare that derails the groove for me.
It's not easy, indeed! The trick is to practice it really slowly for a long time and gradually increase the tempo. Once you reach a tempo where it's stil tricky, stay there and practice more.
Repetition, repetition repetition! 😃
thanks
You're welcome!
14:10 "All I wanna do when I wake up in the morning is see your eyes, Rosanna, Rosanna
I never thought that a girl like you could ever care for me, Rosanna"
This part of the vid shoulda been a sing-a-long...
I need this lesson
Happy to help out 🙌🔥
Great job CJ! Have you ever listened to the extended fade out version (that didn't make the album)of Ramble On by Zep? If not, it's worth your while as a drummer. As a Bass player I listen to it to get pumped up, and warmed up for rehearsals, but JPJ and John Henry Bonham kill it! Bonham's playing is so good that it sounds looped, (Is it live or is it Memorex?) Us elders in the crowd will remember that commercial. I marvel every time I listen to it...Just subscribed!
Nice! It's such a badass song!
Thanks, Mark 🤘
'Fool In The Rain". Good Transcription. You Needed To Include The Closed Hi-Hat Foot On 2 . That's The Tricky Part Of The Song. Viewers May Not Understand How Important The Feet Are To This Groove!!! I Also Suggest Practicing A Snare Ghost Note On Beat 1 On The 2nd Triplet Instead Of A Rest. A Little More Difficult But Fun :-)
good videos!!!!
Thanks!
så jäkla bra lirat!
Tack så mycket!!🤩🙌
Nice to🎉
😃
U. Best of best❤❤❤
🙌🤗🙌
I don’t think people give enough credit to Sublime’s drummer, Bud. Most of the best songs on their self titled album, have a very fast version of a shuffle which gives their style of reggae a whole lot more flavor
3:54 baam that’s a clean purdie shuffle.
Thanks!! 😃🙌
RANDY JUDAH TORREZ ❤️ <
You for gotten the best one the Curly shuffle 🥁
😆 🤣 😂
❤
❤❤❤
🙌🙌🙌
I thought it was very instructional. Minor suggest that prior to starting a groove while showing the notation, orally do the count adding all parts singing. Kind of like Burnie was doing that video
I like the snare, what type and make up do you use?
It’s a Benny Greb signature brass snare ✌️🔥
@@ThatSwedishDrummer Thanks! That makes sense, because I like his snare too!😂
12/8 means 12 beats in a measure eighth note gets1 full beat,in your notation you have i measure with 18 eighth notes, this shuffle is either in 18/8 or would probably be written as 2 measures of 9/8,don't mean to sound like a troll, and there is always the possibility that I am wrong as I often am,otherwise thank you for this video, some good stuff
Jag nöter och nöter på Rosanna shuffle, snart där...
Bra!😃
Bara att ta allt långsamt, en sak i taget!
