The best person in this film is her Father. He knew his brother was a psycho but he doesn’t hold it against him, instead giving him new life in New York at the same time keeping him away from her daughter. He knew his daughter exhibited killing tendency, so he taught her hunting instead of making her repressed it. Father of the year.
Killing tendency? So she lets it out on animals? Worst father of the year. Someone who has a killing tendency needs to be diagnosed and perhaps put in a clinic. 1. Animals are not to played with 2. Finding victims to kill does not mean "letting out" her desires, the opposite, it can often evoke them and hunting is just the start. Besides he didn't tell his daughter anything about her pschopathic traits of her uncle, which could have warned her. Instead he became more fascinating to her since he was the forbidden.
It's heavily insinuated that Mrs. Mcgarrett (?) was writing to Charlie all of these years & that she was the one who sent him photos & updates on India. India displayed a lot of Charlie's old traits growing up & Mrs. M most likely told him this, which led him to believe India was a murderer like him. Richard also knew this, which is why he taught her how to hunt at a young age, so she'd have a healthy outlet for her impulses.
Just a psychopath serial killer orgin story. A coming of age movie. This is also a retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula, where mother, daughter, and uncle, are the life sucking vampires (hence the creepy glimmering eyes), and the dad is the care taker host who serves and loves his vampire(s).
and the movie is literally titled Stoker exactly for that very reason. Apart from their last names being Stoker too. Clearly a nod to the original work.
History: "Bram Stoker", an Irish author, created the myth of dracula in 1897. It was inspired by the famous "Vlad Tepes the impaler", a king in medieval Romania. Vlad died after being ambushed by the Ottoman Empire who reportedly decapitated Vlad, and sent his head to Sultan Mehmet II in Constantinople as a trophy. Vlad the Impaler was also known as Vlad Tepes and also, Vlad Dracula.
11:24 I find it interesting that with Charlie welding a rock and murder in his eyes, Richard moves to hold Charlie's face, as if to talk sense into him or comfort him like a child having a tantrum, rather than grab the rock arm or block. Richard loved his family.
Fun fact: In the original script, the movie was going to be about vampires. The uncle discovers his niece is also a vampire like him but her brother was trying to suppress her vampire drive for blood and kept it a secret. So that's why the uncle goes for her and wants to breed with her so they can make more vampires as their species is dying out. The mother had no idea. Director Park Chan Wook (Oldboy) however changed the genre completely and wanted his own Hitchcock psycho theme.
Actually u missed part of the movie.. the dad was teaching her to shoot because he knew she had the murdering tendency since she was little like his brother. So he wanted to give her another outlet. Om really surprised because that's a main part of this story. And all the burials with the rocks in the backyard were actual burials. U left out a lot of important information.
The mother is a monster. India is young and beautiful and has all the attention of her father. The mother is jealous. This a nod to Bram Stoker's Dracula, so instead of vampires you have life/energy sucking vampires living in this house. The mother, the uncle, and India are all monsters. This movie is about Indias sexual awakening into a full fledged sensual predator.
Whole movie is freaky, turns out India also inherited the crazy killer genes. But I was wondering why Charlie was so interested in her if he was sent to mental institution since young he has never seen India before
I was disappointed not gonna lie, throughout the movie I was hoping that she has some sense into her but nope, i dont feel bad for the dad tho when he used to take her hunting he was kinda trying to suppress her psychopathic tendencies and he knew it was gonna be hard so he tried to alternate humans with animals but it backfired big time! should've taken her to a psychiatrist instead of doing all this mental gymnastics just for her to go on a killing spree. 🙄

This is what happens when parents deny or neglect their children’s disturbing behaviours just because they’re unable to face the truth and do the right thing.
This is also a retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Thats why it has a romantic Gothic vibe. Like for example, the reserved quietness of the characters. Where feelings and emotions are kept inside but you still feel the inner tension and turmoil and darkness without it being said or acted out. Thats why the movie title is Stoker, instead of blood sucking vampires, we get a coming of age story of a girl becoming a psychopath with a blood lust and who feeds off of attention and the idea she's above everyone else. She learns how to lure her prey and feed off their life as vampires do. The whole family are in a way vampires except for the dad, thats why they all have creepy piercing eyes.
