Safe mode has never failed me.
Except the time my grandpa got held ransom by someone who talked him into checking the "boot into safemode" checkbox in windows boot options, then lied and said it was a virus which could only be removed if he paid them $$$

It was pretty funny to see the definition with audio icon popup when he said that :D
But the Greeks say πανάκεια pah-náhy'keh-ah.
Panacea is a Helenism.
@@PHAD-tc2ic and the british say aluminium instead of aluminum, but we are talking about a word in english, not greek, and this word has a universal english pronunciation.

@@kaylaandjimbryant8258 It's not entirely an English word, it's a Helenism, i.e. a contamination from Greek. From the name of the Greek goddess Πανάκεια - Panáeekia.
Btw, the pronunciation is not "universal". In Dutch (panacee) it is pa-na-sĕĕ, in Spanish (panacea) it is pah-nah-séh-ah.
you can go in safe mode by pressing Shift while clicking on restart also

In italian it actually makes sense! It is called "modalità provvisoria" and can be translated to "temporary mode", so it better explains how and when to use it - just to test if the main components work or to repair the OS, not because it's "safe"
How about a video on what System Restore actually does? What impact does it have on anything and how can it fix an infection?
We want more taran B-roll!
Hold shift + hitting restart will allow you to enter boot menu to go to safe mode too. You can also select it in msconfig.
Thanks for reminding me to turn on System Restore on my home machine. Been meaning to do that for a few months :)

Having a "LiveCD" bootable system like Puppy or Mint Linux can be a great way to avoid the need to do the full install if you have a bad virus.
Often a virus lives in some directory somewhere and has a second thing in some other directory somewhere else. A booted LiveCD can let you go remove files etc without the virus being able to prevent you.
A useful trick is to use the googles to find the name of the beast and then with the LiveCD, go in and find it. In extreme cases just removing what you find doesn't fix it because of the other copy somewhere else. For this, you delete the file and then make a folder with that same name. The virus writers often don't expect that.
You can then go a reboot the Windows to finish fixing it.
Those LiveCD things can also be great for doing backups. Sometimes trying to back things up can be like trying to change tires while the car is driving down the road.
3:33 - As seen from the dictionary entry displayed, the pronunciation is "pana-CEE-ah", stressed on the third syllable, not the second one.
Sorry for smart-assing there (which is not a verb _yet_ , I know), but thanks for the video. Informative and well presented as always! Keep up the good work! 😀

Hey Linus could you compare usb vs pci-e wifi cards and what are the differences, love the content keep on going.
actually, cars do have a sort of safe mode. it's called limp mode, where by performance is dramatically decreased and you get like 1 gear. however the analogy you've made also exists in the car world, that would be called "engine running load shed" if your alternator fails (on Fords idk about everyone else) it shuts off all non-essential loads to make sure you can make it to a repair facility or at least extend the drive.
Taran should get an Oscar!
I appreciate the irony of pulling up the dictionary entry for "panacea" with the pronunciation guide and then mispronouncing it. pan-uh-see-uh.
Pan-uh? How the fuck do you pronounce that without stopping for a bit?
Please make a video on the configurations that we need to do after making a custom built pc

Top J not true xD you can run them. they might not work properly though
3:57 welp my old windows 7 laptop is also hopeless now with beep everytime on post

That's a BIOS beeper its normal
There is an interesting detail in safe mode. In the service tab in msconfig, you will see that many Microsoft program are stopped. So, logically, if we disable the stopped one and boot up normally, the computer is in a better clean boot, if you also disable startup program in task manager.
There is another type of boot that hardware related. In safe mode, some hardware stopped working. So, by disable every hardware that stopped working in safe mode, you can isolate an hardware problem.
Of course, it is best to do this offline as you disable Defender.
You also have recovery disks you can get from Bit-defender and others or boot to a thumb drive that has a OS installed with some tools to help correct the issue.Worst case is backup your data and scan it then wipe and format your drive then reinstall the OS.
*You can always be in Safe Mode, if you don't install 3rd party applications.* 😎
Oh yeah yeah thats why I get fifth-party apps.
And microsoft software.
You can always be virus-free, if you don't have a computer 😉
nope
Safe mode is a vanilla mode. They don't used high graphic, and Just like first install. Don't mean virus-free.

I downloaded new RAM into my PC but it failed to detect. Turned out that the RGB I downloaded yesterday was interfering with the new RAM so I had to boot into safe mode to delete the RGB. Safe mode is awesome.
I never used safe mode till this day, actually I reinstall windows
Please make a video on the sound played by the motherboard when a thing is not detected or other stuff like that
Hey Linus, please make a video on telling (what happens if one of many pins break or bend on VGA cable or DVI cable).

*0:00* *_Linus is a Yellow Vest !?_*
The easiest way to be cool: USE LINUX!
lol
Yes bit *ONLY* if you use the distro I like.
I usually use safe mode to manipulate with various Vorbis files because of some problems with Windows (minus reading them because I can use it just foine in normal mode)
In older laptops ( with windows 7 or before) , Safe Mode also disabled all USB ports except the USB 2.0 port that was "bootable: i.e. used to install windows , etc and wasnt connected to the USB hub , but instead directly to the chipset..

Please think twice before you upvote these cheap one-liners.
How about a vid in regards to those programs(Bitdefender, macro is etc...) that allow to use & run programs in a "safe" environment to see if like but doesn't actually install, & can undo it? That would be cool to compare & see if they actually work....as never have used one myself.
There are some malware that also infect safe mode to prevent access which further complicates the removal process.

use Linux
Linusux
@ma kra "Mainframe" is a word I've not heard in a long time 😉
Let's say "server", since Unix has no concept of a centralized "main-frame".
The context and purpose of a system ultimately determines what platform OS is "better".
Sadly many popular (i.e. Windows!) program equivalents are not available in Linux and running e.g. Wine makes Win application sluggish.
Bottom line: it's all relative to how you use it. But Linux is commonly less applicable in most circumstances.
Even though linux doesn't have the support of mainstream software developers, I still prefer to not reboot 37 times when I am updating. Windows install and all required software= 2-3 days, Linux install and all required software= 27 minutes
@ma kra Ok, yes. However the most safe platform/environment is not always about vulnerabilities and viruses. Yes, on Linux there will be less of that, because hackers target Win more than Ux. Still OpenSource is more likely to have more bugs or backdoors, thus less safe.
Ultimately "safety" lies more in the thought through strategic human approach rather than ready-made platform solutions.
@Redblast kinda ironic posting no to using Linux on a video platform that uses Linux and probably from a phone that has a Linux kernel. So yes?
When will the tech quickie merch opens?
When I was in high-school I was forced to use my PC in Safe Mode (with Networking) for half a year because my GPU died of amateur overclocking and parents said I have to save for a new one myself. Only VGA Driver was able to "work" with the half-dead GPU. Also, for weeks I didn't realize how to start up sound drivers so I was left without music for a while.

Safe mode is a diagnostic mode of a computer operating system (OS). It can also refer to a mode of operation by application software. Safe mode is intended to help fix most, if not all problems within an operating system. It is also widely used for removing rogue security software.

@@Nurse_Xochitl Yeah i mean... No system is safe.
@ma kra gee, who would have thought that 😂🤣😂. Doesn't matter the system, everyone is vulnerable, just a little less on linux since its market share is way less.

back in school as part of our education we had to install a bunch of viruses and malware and then clean the infected device.
we needed to enter safe mode, then install both malwarebytes and avast.
the install of both security software had to be installed from a clean source and not already existing on the system when it was infected.
malwarebytes had to scan and disinfect the device over and over until we got "3 goose eggs", aka when we get 0 threats found 3 times.
