Buy special high gain antenna for your router which gets the internet from your neighbours. Better signal=better speed. I assume that Wi-Fi signal quality from your neighbour is a limiting factor. Or just don't steal and order your own high speed, reliable and secure internet connection. You probably connected to unprotected neighbours Wi-Fi (without a password) and you must use VPN if you want to be secure and private.

It's always better to have faster speeds just because you can download files faster... Video games for example are quite large these days... It can be the difference between 5 mins on the high in and an 1 and a half hours on the low... Also ISP have made it such that the difference between different tiers is quite minor... Mostly around 15-20$ per tier... Specrium used to charge a one time 200 "connection fee" for gig and +50$ for the teir upgrade but faced with stiff competition from fiber those days are over...

I don’t live alone either, so anytime someone wants to use the internet, we have to negotiate a time because only one person can use the wifi at a time. Its true: Gaming doesn't need a high bandwidth, but not having a high bandwidth can become problematic if you are running servers or have other people using the same internet as you. If you bump against the bandwidth ceiling, you will introduce artificial latency and dropped packets. If you want to avoid those lag spikes and high latency that appear randomly when room mates are in the other room kicking off a large download, you need to make sure that you have plenty of bandwidth for both of you. You can play video games just fine on a 10Mbps connection, until someone tries to Facetime their grandma.

What if there was "shipping" for digital product like for example COD warfare (the new one with warzone) is over 200GB so if you are paying for 100mbps the it will take forever. imagen if you could pay a "shipping" small fee to have the game download at 1,000mbps then when it is done your speed goes back to 100. it would be like those express shipping options you see on amazon that almost no one clicks on. not every ISP could do it but I assume some ISP just hook you up to the same internet and throttle your connection to whatever plan you are paying for so they just unthrottle it for that file.

Although bandwidth isn't super important when playing online games, it is important when downloading games, or anything for that matter. For activities like web browsing, video streaming, or gaming, data usage is relatively consistent. But when downloading files, your computer will try to pull data down as fast as the internet connection will allow. So higher bandwidth will always mean faster download speeds. For example, a 100mbps connection will download a 2 GB file in 1m40s, although it will generally be longer because the bandwidth will be shared between devices and you likely will experience some slowdowns. Wheras a 1gbps connection will download the same file in 16 seconds, with the same caveats.

After the electric companies sister company ran fiber, I now get 100 Mbps speed and was happy when I got it, I am still happy with them. When I had my phone companies 10 Mbps phone line internet, I didn't like it, to top it all off the junction box that controlled it all would go down mostly when it rained, most of the time the only thing affected was the phone and not internet, yet that speed was too slow cause of available gig speed in bigger towns. The electric company saw a niche that wasn't being filled and decided to take the plunge and run fiber, even though I live in a town they still consider it a rural area cause of the size and we have no stores anymore. I was considering moving up to gig speed, yet it is around $170!

Data caps are rife here in Australia, thankfully my family have an unlimited plan but most companies go with data caps mostly so they can stem the bleeding. You see the government installed all the fibre backend, then had the entity managing it charge all the ISPs per MB they sent through fibre network, thereby incentivising ISPs to stick to data caps and recommend shitty slow speeds like 12/1 as "Fast" broadband.

100mbps is perfect and honestly can't tell the difference between 100 and the 200 we have now 99% of the time, unless I am downloading games or videos. When downloading it's twice as fast. Most of my games took like 1-2 hours (sizes are sometimes 100GB and that took 2 hours) and now it's half that. But you can never be satisfied with download times as there is always room for improvement, but for video streaming 100mbps still allows 8k HDR which is the max quality on CZcams.
