Unico. Ci manchi tantissimo Alexei.
Sultanov was a force of nature, God has his private pianist
GOD ALSO CREATED MOZART AND CHOPIN AND CALLED THEM BACK AT AN EARLY AGE. WHO CAN UNDERSTAND THIS?
9:40 the inner melodies he creates are unheard in any other version as far as i’ve heard. his playing is otherworldly
pogorelich on my channel
@@null8295 Alexei’e pacing is much better
Van cliburn also does this inner voicing amazingly!
The moment at 19:53 is what I like to call a musical blackhole. Truly spectacular
That's exactly how I experience it too. When most other pianists play that part it sounds like falling/jumping off a cliff. When mr Sultanov plays it I feel like I'm being sucked into a blackhole. I keep thinking I can't get pulled in any further, but he keeps adding more depth. It's absolutely incredible.
Rachmaninov`s ability of creating polyphonic structures was amazing, but often this great achievement can`t be heard so crystal clear like in this astonishing interpretation by Sultanov! This is a masterful live performance...only very few of contemporary pianists have reached this level of musical depth and understanding of Rachmaninov`s musical intentions in my opinion..this is my favourite interpretation of this great piece!
Such passion, richness and gradation of tone, phrasing... Just WOW! This is what music in heaven must sound like!

You're right!!!!
What a tragic story. To have so many strokes at such an early age. Tragic.

It is magnificent, just like Horowitz, you left us too early.
RIP Alexei, I miss you and your incredible talent!!
The LIFE he brought to all the songs he played. As long as the human race has ears Alexei Sultanov will live on in future hearts for sure and forever.
@@bonhzeppelin9882 I don't understand, you mean horowitz died young or something? Lol
@@maximodelvalle4030 Nooo. I was talking about Alexei! Lol.
MAGNIFICENT TOUCH
So so beautiful, thank you Alexei Sultanov!
Wykonanie najbliższe mojemu sercu. Spoczywaj w pokoju.
👍👍👍
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Sultanov is just the best!
AGREE
Sultanov is one of the best pianists to ever have lived
Oh yes ....
Next to Horowitz, this is the BEST recording. Hands down. Fuggetabout Yuja Wang Way and other sophists. They can't turn this guys pages.
I mean, any other recording deserves to shine the shoes of Horowitz, but I think this one can maybe sit in the chair next to him
@@Wosudhehqaxb9169 Sultanov has a better movement 2, I'll fight you on that. But overall quality, yeah, I'd agree Horowitz is king.
Don't forget Stanislav Ioudenitch ❤
Wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best interpretation of the 2nd movement there will ever be.
***** Mark Westcott's is really beautiful as well. :) For me, its a tie.
Without a doubt, Sultunov would have been one of THE greatest and most spectacular pianist of the modern era. The guy had it all. Almost a Horowitz copy. What an unbelievable tragedy
Entirely agree!
What a lucky audience and piano!
Bravo!!!
Him and Horowitz, no other.
THAT IS TRUE
Oh come on...
Also pogorelich and it's perfect
@@SeigneurReefShark With Pogorelich mentioned, we now have all three of the most overrated pianists of all time in this thread.
@@j.s.42822 Sultanov is underrated as hell, suffered a stroke at 31, paralyzed.. still he deserves way more recognition
I'm totally transfixed and hypnotised hearing this. Unbelievably completely and utterly totally brilliant. What an amazing artist. What a painful loss
Aside from his expressive power, it is amazing how well Sultanov grasped, understood and conveyed the structural form of this very complex piece. Just amazing.
Bravissimo 👏👏👏👏👏❤️
17:58 f*** !!! .............. the attack possibilities of this guy are tremendous ... and always this lyrical agressivity ... full of love ... this is heart-wrenching. Artillery of beauty ....
This is one the highest moment of music I get.
Perfecto!
Amazing !!!
Obojaiu.......
11:02 note to self
0:00 wow ..... ohh ... I thought this was the very private garden of Horowitz ......... and suddenly this ....
I knew that Sultanov was a genious, but not so ....
Horowitz cold desperate passion. And this is hot. Passion always.
what piano is this???? I need one... never heard such a bass
It is not piano,it is his magic hands ,energic and head
❤❤❤❤❤
18:40 clímax
Frightening performance!!!!
I can't play this piece but know it well. There are some really great and some really absurd moments from this crappy Horowitz score. The moment I don't understand at all is the ending where Rachmaninov didn't actually write B-flat octaves and Sultanov's playing is shockingly sloppy. If he was trying to simulate how Horowitz had consistently butchered this piece, I'd say he's hit the bullseye.
I can't stand by perfs like this when pianists favor histrionics to just effectively reading the score. Pounding the shit out of a piano is something anyone can do. This doest not maketh a great pianist.
