It’s time to talk about The Last of Us. In case you didn’t know, people are really excited about this show because it’s an adoption of one of the best and most beloved video games of the last decade.
The game is praised for its masterfully crafted story and complex character. The Last of Us takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a parasitic fungus turned most of humanity into terryfyng mind-controled mutants.
This world is rich with lore, factions, and some truly incredible characters.
So here’s everything you need to know about The Last of Us, and why you should be excited about this show.
Alright so usually with these kinds of videos we do a full recap of the story, but we can’t do it with the Last of Us. That’s because the show is an adaptation of a video game, and we just don’t want to ruin this amazing story.
So instead we will tell you everything you need to know about The Last of Us without any major spoilers.
The game Last of Us came out in 2013
It’s received unanimous acclaim and is considered to be one of the greatest games ever made. It won all the awards. It sold millions of copies. It’s an amazing game with an incredible story.
The game was created by Neil Druckmann, and it was developed by Naughty Dog. The same studio that created games like Crash Bandicoot and the Uncharted series.
In 2014, the game received a DLC that was titled Left Behind. In case you have no idea what DLC means, it’s an expansion pack for the original game. The story of Left Behind takes place both before and during the events of the first game.
The first season of the Last of Us show is an adaptation of the first game and the Left Behind.
There’s also the American Dreams graphic novel that came out in 2013. It serves as a prologue for Left Behind.
In 2020 The Last of Us Part II came out. Unlike the first game, the sequel was very
divisive among fans. Some love it, some hate it. Most are somewhere in between. Like most things nowadays.
Despite some of the negative responses the game got, Part 2 is still a very successful game, receiving a lot of praise and winning many game awards. And it will be very interesting to see how Part II will be adapted for the show.
Speaking of, we have a video coming out about The Last of Us Part 2, that will explain some of the controversy surrounding the game, and our own feeling on the story. So stay tuned for that.
At this point, the Last of Us part 3 isn’t confirmed yet, but the game is very likely to happen, especially if the show is a major hit. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
They said they didn’t include the breathing spore situation because it would be unrealistic that anyone would survive that at all because spores goes through air rapidly and doesn’t really contain to certain places (specially in a post apocalyptic world), which we all know very well from the recent real life events.
Exactly. Spores would travel and infect too easily like they do IRL. Plus we don’t need Pedro masked up on screen most of the time again like Mando. They’d also have to explain that certain concentrations of spores don’t infect some people and that’s just too easy to have a convoluted explanation.
It might just be head canon, but for some reason I thought the game explained that the spores died in uv light or something, which is why they weren't really a problem outside?
I wondered this in the first episode when they made it to the subway tunnel maintenance room and the huge spore was growing out of the wall. They were all stepping on it and the whole time I was like “ok one of them at the very least will get infected…” Nope 😂
I had never played the game but was wondering what of the fungal spores. I feel like the director is trying to make real world problem not feel like the real world. Which is still a bummer. The distress is in the title so if they had put the spores in it would’ve separated the show from a regular “zombie movie.”
Yes a show about infected monsters, it's all unrealistic so I think it's laziness if you ask me that they didn't include it
For everyone who didn't play the games, be warned: this show will absolutely break your heart and it draw you in and terrify you at the same time. Amazing storytelling, amazing characters and a realistic view of a very bewildered world. Joel and Ellie are not simple hero's without flaws, just like the "villains" in the story are not pure evil (well maybe except for 1). I hope the series will do the game justice, because it deserves an amazing adaptation.
Most of the reviews I've seen come from reviewers that played the game and they are giving it very high praise.
Only if they respect the source material, could be entirely different.

TRIVIA:
in the video game, those screams, growls, cries that the infected do are their human conscious effect. they said that the infected are still conscious during their infection state and their minds and body reacts in despair knowing the fact that they can’t do nothing to stop the spreading of the infection…
a slow agonizing reality that death is slowly having a toll on them as they conscious live the rest of their lives knowing that they can’t do nothing to stop the spreading of the infection.
To explain the spore removal: It's likely to spare them from having to explain the plot hole created from the fact that in the game, simply wearing a gas mask is enough to avoid exposure from breathing in the spores where in real life, you'd essentially have to torch everything that would have come into contact with the spores to avoid spreading them. Grounds the story in reality a bit without affecting the game's narrative
Yes, that is something that confused me about the games. They cross through spore contaminated regions and afterwards just put their masks off when they'd really need a full on decontamination, including getting rid of (and burn) all their clothes, thoroughly showering with the masks still on and ideally shaving off all exposed hair 🤔

I will say that I was skeptical about the spores being removed also, but after watching the 1st two episodes of the show (and after beating both games) I realized why they did it and it makes perfect sense. In the game the spores are stationary, localized in one area or room of a building so it's easy to see and put on your mask. In real life, the spores would spread everywhere, which means that anytime they went inside a place Joel would always have to mask up, and that would kinda kill his facial expressions and reactions. Plus, Pedro Pascal already does this in the Mandalorian so it would be redundant for him.
I love HBO shows, they focuses on quality rather than quantity.

I played this game just 4 months ago. When my friend told me about this game I ignored it but after playing both the games I'm really hyped for this show. Even though they did Joel dirty in the second game. The 1st game is one of my absolute favourite.
Joel had it coming if we’re honest with ourselves. I know that feeling but after thought and a 2nd play through I appreciated the consequences served and how they were delivered (even if it hurt).

I worked on the show and my kid and partner LOVE the game. From what they’ve told me about the game, I really believe the OG fans are absolutely going to love the show. Happy watching folks!
One of the few games that left me speechless after it ended. Games are a funny thing that are so individual and personal to the player. They aren't something you can truly share in real-time with others. To try and express how great a story this is you have to be a gamer who has played it. That being said, it looks so promising that this is going to open up that experience to others that may not play games and who knows - may make them want to pick up a controller to see what it's all about.
This is the only game that ive not jsut refused to see any content of or walkthroughs because as a gamer I know when a gamer tells me how good a game is, its best to take their word and set aside a weekend and play it yourself. I am about to buy the games and jump in. I feel like this long has been to long to not treat myself to what every gamer ive ever talked to has praised about.
I felt this way too with RDR2
Removing the spores as the source for infection is understandable in a cinematic setting. If they kept that in, everyone would be in constant gasmask gear as they are mostly outside.. hard to read facial expressions for dramatic effect in a gasmask. Not only that, it would sound annoying when you hear people talk through that mask every episode. I think it was the smart move to make for an adaptation made for television.

I've been gaming since 1988 on the good old Sinclair ZX spectrum, and have played all major systems since that time up till this day Console and PC. The Last of Us series for me personally was the pinnacle of gaming, it combined my favourite genres and the storytelling was the best thing I had seen, and have seen since. I am very excited for a masterpiece in gaming, come alive even further in the show and hopefully will encourage more effort made into turning gaming gold into the bog and small screen adventures!!

Just watched the first episode. The show is amazing so far. Especially the parts that come straight from the game
They filmed here in Southern Alberta. I could hear them filming and saw lots of sets. Where I work managed to make some parts for one of the sets. I was very close to being an extra, but my friend is an extra in the opening scene of the first episode.

From what I can tell, most people who hate Part 2 didn’t even play the game and went off a leak (that was wrong) or listened to streamers’ opinions that also didn’t play it. That game is fantastic, 10/10.
I played the game when it first came out and I wasn’t a huge fan of it but I decided to play it again to try and give it a shot to redeem itself and I personally don’t like the game simply because of the storyline. But that’s my personal opinion and I’m very happy that some people genuinely enjoy the game :)

I'm excited for it. I saw someone tag Ashley Johnson and because she's one of my favorites from Critical Role I had to know what it was about.. the fact that Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are in it too just makes my heart happy. I love what I've seen of the game and would buy a PlayStation for this game only. I can't wait to sit down and watch this weekend (I'm behind, I know. I did this with House of the Dragon too).
The last of us part one was a masterpiece that still stands as one of the best games I’ve played in my entire life, on any Console or platform, PC or Mac anything. It represents the ultimate example that every other company should strive for in terms of cut scenes. And also, the gameplay is great, but, as great as it is, and as enjoyable as it was, I found myself playing it with intensity, so that I can reach the next cut scene. As you mention, Ryan, it is a master craft example of storytelling.
I personally played the second game, and at the end of it I had the same level of fulfillment as the first one. Once again, the storytelling was magnificent. It is such a rare thing that any movie or game can bring out emotional attachment the way these games did for me.
Simply put, to me they are masterpieces.
I am looking forward to the show immensely. And, I agree that changes made in service to the story will not ruin it for me. The show will not be the games, but it should embody the spirit of the game’s story.
I have both games but never played them. I feel like it's too story driven and if I wanted story, I'd just watch a movie. I don't like long cutscenes
@@RemingtonSteel Iused to feel that way, until this game came along. Most games with cut scenes don’t use them properly. It is so rewarding in this game to reach them for me that I have never seen its equal.
Yeah, both games for me were intense, and I found myself gripping the controller so tightly subconsciously while playing through some of the more stressful parts. The lady is not a gamer, but she loved to turn the lights off and watch me play through the games. They're that good.

It was the first game last of us I actually played till the end. And watched idk how many walk throughs!!. . Now the second part. I still have ptsd from it, and love Pedro pascal, imma be in tears 😢😢😢

Your in for it now man. 🎉 the dlc is a good 3 hours of gameplay if you want to %100 complete it.
you can also consider the way they eat the strawberries- Bill eats his at the front, indicating there is still more time, more things to look forward to, whereas Frank eats his toward the end, indicating that he his on barrowed time
I’m excited that they changed the outbreak to 2003 instead of 2013 like in the game. I’m sure the score will be on point since Gustavo returned, man Sunday night is gonna be epic.

I am honestly incomprehensibly hyped for this show, so far it looks fucking phenomenal - in the game, even after several replays, the best parts are just exploring, despite the linear progression and lack of free roam elements, the world building and detail is just off the charts immense; I can’t wait to see what they’ve done regarding set design, the skyscrapers in the teaser give me extremely high hopes and the fact the team behind Chernobyl are involved?
I also like that they’re deviating from the game, means I’ve actually got surprises in store despite knowing the gist of what happens, honestly can’t understand how anyone could have a problem with that, there’d be far less need to watch it if it were a fully faithful recreation.
Goddamn just release it now already.

Yes, I'm also still very much debating whether I want to spend 50 € on a minimum 6-month subscription to a streaming service that I otherwise couldn't care less about, just to be able to watch a single show. Of course I'm very excited, but firstly I'm not angry with my money and secondly I don't want to support such business practices either.
There are so many ways to watch it not just on HBO as long as you have internet bruh

Part 2 adapted will be interesting, to say the least. One thing I love about Part 2 is that it could only be done as a video game. So I'm very curious how they will adapt that to a TV series and create a similar impact.
That's what they said about part 1 and here we are, and from episode 1, they appear to have nailed it. (I'm basing that on 4 playthroughs of part 1, it hit the same emotional beats as the game, roughly)
I guarantee that the adaptation of TLOU 2 will be VERY DIFFERENT (no spoilers) than the game, so I'm sure they will have to find different motivations for one of our beloved characters going forward as opposed to the one they chose for the game narrative.

when you have to go through bills maze of boobie traps was my favorite part in the entire game so learning to who Frank really was and what his relationship with bill was is awesome to me.
