I was in first grade when this was on. I think older gymnastics was way harder and more complex. Beautiful though. I mean newer gymnastics has its pros to but I think the routines were way harder back then.
I remember seeing the entire women's gymnastics competition, especially the team competition. Romanian gymnasts received low scores on their routines that were better than gymnasts from the United States. A blatant favoritism on the part of the judges. A real shame.
But it was also a time when performance in FX had as equal scoring as skills.. And the Romanians and others from that area regularly incorporated balletic moves into their Beam and FX..Which impressed the judges..Although Shannon did that in her FX...
I wish to apologize that my first comment was offensive. I didn't realize how inappropriate those words were. Both judges and gymnasts deserve respect for their performance in any competition.
This was after the USSR broke up, if it was still together in 1996, the ladies team that could have been brought is stunning...Amanar, Milosevci, Boginskaya, Lilia Podkopayeva, Onodi...
Romania was never part of the Soviet Union. They would've been their own team, as they'd been in all previous Olympics. Same with Onodi - she represented Hungary, not one of the Soviet nations.
@@postitsandpens Why, you're right..My bad..But there were still many outstanding gymnasts from all that area...What I miss is the performance(s) by those ladies back then..They had a reputation for studying ballet to incorporate into their FX.. @@MrReed314 Agreed, if they'd pulled the best from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia, and also probably Chuso, they would've won gold easily. I loved Lilia and Dina Kochetkova in particular.
It’s hilarious to see people complaining about the Romanians being underscored. This routine had VISIBLE errors, their compulsory scores were laughably high, and the US in team finals were ROCK STEADY. That’s how you win gold, stuff your “favoritism bs.
These Olympic Games were a shameful example of blatant favoritism for the US team. The Romanians were FAR BETTER but they were sabotaged step by step in this competition, for the whole world to see. You have to really feel for the Russian & Romanian gymnasts. Having to try to perform their routines whilst having to endure excessive cheering, clapping and screaming from the American fans! The American fans showing here their total lack of respect for other gymnasts and also their lack of class as well!

I totally disagree and I like the Romanian Team. The United States at this particular competition were unbeatable and their routines were superior. I love Lavinia, but there was nothing spectacular about this routine. Let's be honest here.
@@pappysprite It is not about spectacularity, it is not a Las Vegas Show, neither a Broadway show, nor an Oscar show. It is about a perfect combination between technic and artistic elements. when gymnastics still was gold, team were 7 members and not the garbage 4 of 2021 olympics !!!!

The strange thing is this got a higher score than her AA beam routine when her AA beam routine was her better routine.

can you give examples of that happening? Because there are obvious examples of the Romanians being overscored in compulsories.
