This is when gymnastics was fun to watch.
Amazing fact, Oksana Chusovitina who performed at 6:00 is STILL competing Elite! She won another medal at 2008 Beijing and even competed at 2020 Olympics! What an amazing woman, so persistent and strong over so many years
I loved the Barcelona games So many big names but the all round with Shannon vs Tatiana was absolutely fabulous there were 4 events. I agreed with the placements.
Back then it was more fun to watch gymnastics....then it was the example of, when difficulty meets the artistry. Now days it's all about difficulty there is no room for gracefulness or fun....
Was it though? Milo had no artistry over Onodi and Miller had the artistry all over the medalists she shared the podium with. it is a sport.
@@kinsellawasrobbed7515 compare Milo with Jade Carey's 2020 gold routine, at least there is measure of artistry from Milo. Jade's choreographer really gave her nothing to do.
@@yellowpurple600 I wouldn't say she was decent by any means but Jade takes it to a new low. She is that bad. Milo at least had presentation. Jade doesn't even have that.
Grace and fun are totally subjective. I'd rather have impartiality.

Onodi's choreography is stunning and love how avant garde Silvia Mitova's style was... she was underrated.
Totally enjoyable 😉 And quite frankly I think that if Milosovic can get a ten with a hop on her landing then Onodi shouldve on a triple twist. At least tie for gold
While I applied her routine in 92. I love love love her 91 worlds. Slightly different.
@@LETMEINGUYS Besides the 3 twist, one of the other landings was quite low, so 9.95 is more than enough...Milosovic didn't have any hop:-)
@@Q_from_Star_Trek What do you mean? She hops on her punch front on her first pass. Plus you know... one knee in front of the other on all her full-ins (very low chest on the last one), crossed legs on twists, incomplete double turn... It's a great routine, but not faultless by any means.

Onodi deserved a 10 here as well. Beautiful dance, super difficult tumbling, great presentation. One of my favourite floor routines ever!
absolutely not, on one of the landing she had a step and one of the landings was low...9.95 was a bit high for how many big mistakes she had.

For some reason I was really into these gymnasts they were on every commercial on tv folks all the late night shows and I was a fan
Shannon Miller was both artistic yet powerful. Watching her was like watching ballet and tumbling. She is a legend
Shannon was so elegant
Chousovitina was always so under scored. She done some of the most difficult skills on floor and vault but was never rewarded for it
No commentators; how absolutely refreshing. I wish there were a way to mute them in every meet.
Kim Zmeskal's floor performance was awesome. 1992. Watching it 30 years later in 2022... it's still AWESOME.
She did a great job despite having a stress fracture at the time.
Yes, she was dynamic! Unfortunately, those two major stumbles took her out of these games. At least she got a team bronze 🥉.
I absolutely loathed her FX music. Some of the choreography was positively cringeworthy. She did the best she could with what she had...

I would also love to rewatch the Rock n Roll exhibitions they used to do back in the 90s. They weren't there to compete but to have fun and show off their creativity with less strict rules on what they were allowed to do. Do you remember those?
Already in Barcelona we can see how much impact Svetlana Boginskaya had on floor choreography. There were more girls dropping the 'cutesy wootsy' dancing and aiming for something more elegant.
Svetlana was one of my favorite from this decade. She was built more like a dancer and it showed in her routines. They were so elegant and graceful

I wish they still allowed girls to lunge out of their tumbling. It looks elegant and probably saves their legs quite a bit of pain.
I agree. Gymnastics has just lost so much of its grace and artistic style with the dance that used to be involved in it. Women's gymnastics has become too much like men's gymnastics. It focuses mostly on strength power and difficulty of the skills they are doing.

Oksana Chusovitina was such a wonderful gymnast maybe if she was given more opportunities she probably would have had more success in the sport

I must say, I agree with those who think Onodi was robbed here! Her landings were solid as they didn't take such large dedications (if any at all) on those landings with a low chest!

I’ve never seen the 1992 FIG all around until the last several days. And now I’ve watched it several times. Shannon’s Miller was absolutely robbed. No question. Wow.
Milosovici’s 2nd pass was complex and difficult. totally the winner

@@magripinop You thought you did something there. That’s an entirely different CoP and scoring system. Besides, Milo’s tumbling passes aren’t that difficult. Biles’s tumbling pushes the boundaries of the human body; Milo’s tumbling doesn’t.
Her second pass was almost identical to Szabo's in 1984, only Szabo did a straight punch-front.

She was a tumbler. No artistry but she received a 9.812 so the best she would have had was a 9.912. She wouldn't have won gold. Want to see her being screwed go watch the 91 World EF on vault. That was blatant cheating.

You would never see tumbling out of a handspring, back full, full in. Mainly I just mean now days I never see a back full in combination it's usually a front. Bet that's harder
On the US side, it was supposed to be Kim Zmeskal's games. Unfortunately, two major stumbles set her back in the runnings and Shannon Miller took all the glory.
By the time of the 1992 Olympics, Kim Zmeskal was over trained and exhausted by the Bela Karoly system of endless repetitions regardless of injuries or pain, and a landslide of obsessive media coverage of the political games played by karoly and hyping her as the next AA gold winner before the competition had even started.
@@mrparts I am very aware of Bela's training regimen for his gymnasts. If you ask me, it was downright abusive, but it did produce champions. Even if Kim was not subject to all the pressure and media hype, she would have been lucky to earn a bronze medal. She just didn't have enough difficulty in her routines to compete at an international level in my opinion and she has been highly criticized in that department by many. Nevertheless, I was still a huge fan of hers.

Back when it was blatantly obvious who had control of the judging. People wondered why they started scrutinizing them so closely, issuing suspensions for several… here’s why.

Zmeskal seems underscored to me. Was Miller really better? Onodi was mature and great. Mitova was my personal favorite. Avant guarde.

A 10 for a hop out of the punch front? And the choreography of Milosovici was lackluster. Whatever though...And Onodi should have won. Gorgeous lines. Interesting choreography. Just a polished performance with the same number of little hops as Milosovici.

Onody had a step aside after the triple twist and underrotated the last full in with a small step forward so the score of 9.95 was just.
But the one landing by Onodi... she landed way too low. That would get a huge deduction today.

Jeez, her heel technically out of bounds at 6:11 made me so nervous. Wonder if they counted it.
I've been saying for the past two decades now much gymnastics has lost. It's all about difficulty and power of tumbling passes there is little to no creativity, artistic style, or dance skills now. I really don't even see why the females use music anymore. These were the hayday of gymnastics in my opinion, that may be bc this was when i was a gymnast myself starting in the mid 80s. Not just floor exercise either uneven bars has lost so much fluidity since they moved the bars so far apart, there very little transitioning between the bars now. Does anyone else remember the Rock n Roll exhibitions they used to put on in the 90s for the gymnasts to just go out and have fun without being scored. They were so much fun to watch bc they didn't have such strict rules to what they could and couldn't do. I miss those very much. 🥺

Onodi is a beautiful gymnast but that score was too high considering how low one of her landings was.

Miller had some under rotated landings and was over scored sorry. I do miss creative routines like this. This final was great. The floors choreography over the last few years has been awful
Miller definitely deserved only 6th in the floor final. The tie for bronze was a huge gift.

Nice to watch a routine without team mates screaming and the public properly behaving.
As a younger gymnast who saw these on TV in 92, I hated-hated-hated the sh** music they all had. Great routines tho. Some of these moves are illegal now.

Shannon was robbed of a few gold medals at Barcelona, especially the AA. Then there's this floor routine, the balance beam.
The AA was debatable for sure, but her floor routine here with the two large lunges was not Gold worthy and in the beam final Lysenko was the rightful winner. Shannon should have had the beam silver to herself though, Lu Li the bronze.
Shannon got silver on Atlanta.. She looks sad on the whole event, maybe she knows.. Khorkina - gold.. Is it predictable?

Miller would have been no higher than 6th in floor finals with fair scoring. What an absurd comment. All Around or Beam there is a debate to her winning. I don't believe she deserved to win either, but it would be a legitimate argument. Saying she deserved to win floor is one of the most ridiculous things I ever heard.

They didn't have an age limit back then, so some of them will be loads younger than we're used to seeing now.
1) These were allowed to enter younger
2) Everyone - gymnast or not - was smaller in '92
3) It's totally okay

Gymnastics is for small people.. The tallest gymnast (5'7) both male and female.. Being a 5'7 girl is difficult... ^^
No commentary is heaven. It wasn't so bad in 1992 but if you could do this in 2022 so I won't have to listen to phony Nastia talk about herself, that would be heaven
it's a pity Mitova fell, and Chsuvotina out of bounds, both would have won bronz, both Miller GUtsu and Bonntas dind't deserve bronz with such landing problems
They most assuredly did deserve it since they did their job. I was glad they gave it to all 3 since they all had small errors.
If Miller, Gutsu and Bontas did not deserve the bronze, who do you think deserved it??

She has never had any artistry. There isn't even a debate here. That's a fact. Mitova was great but if she was from a better gymnastics country people wouldn't remember her. She would just be another Soviet. People always overrate the decent gymnasts from small Countries
Since a Romanian scored the very first perfect 10 in Olympic history, it makes sense a Romanian scores the very last 10 in Olympic history.

Milosevic shouldn't have gotten a 10. Those landings weren't proper landings. She knew she couldn't do a proper landings she added them extra hops to make it look difficult but those were cheated landings.
Wonderful performances.. needless to say, the judges abused their power when they gave a 10.0 to Milosovici in a performance with obvious execution mistakes. Locking in a gold medal when she was just the second to perform was way too political.
what mistakes did you see in Milosovic exercise?...it was extremely complex with lots of combinations, original, fun and her landings were spot on...

Onodi was ripped off, should have been a 10. Mistakes, some minor ones but it was a LOT cleaner than Miller's, who I think was over scored
