She played the code of points of that time differently than other gymnasts specially chinese who performed very risky routines and her consistency and nationality favoritism helped a lot too. But i really like her consistency, at least.
At 2:24 "...she made a quick recovery....just had her appendix removed". Goodness, doing gymnastics after an appendectomy????? Goodness, give her an 11, she deserves it!!!
It’s in the dismount. She used to perform a BHS LOSO LOSO or BHS LOSO BHS combinations. But in the 1994 worlds she had a nasty fall a hit her head hard on a LOSO. They must’ve felt better for her not to perform a LOSO here.
I honestly don’t get this perfect 10 system. How can someone with such low-difficulty skills be allowed to have a 10 start value just like other gymnasts who are throwing much more difficult skills and combinations? Everyone else might as well not do anything difficult and risk deductions.
Totally agree with you, that was why i dont really enjoy romania's gymnastics. I never wanted them to win gold, especially at 2000 olympics. They won gold because others such as the russian team made mistakes with tougher skills.
It's all about the code of points. Difficulty was not rewarded back then, and few gymnasts took the risk of difficult elements. Moreover, the score was not split in "difficulty" and "execution" as it is today. There was a number of requirements for a routine; if a gymnast was able to perform them well (no visible errors, good form), she could get a score of 10, ahead of another gymnast with more difficulty, but with small steps or adjustments.
@@austinitel.2972 so you prefer others with harder skills badly executed to win? Good execution is part of winning. The Romanians won putting together skills that worked for them and they executed them perfectly. They had hard enough routines to have 10 start values for that code in most of their routines. Today you have a code that is open. Yes, difficulty is not toped, but clearly execution has gone downhill. Back in the days of Gina it was unthinkable to see a top gymnast not hit a split or have a balance check on a single turn. Or to see a lot of mistakes in finals. Now attention to detail is secondary, being the girls so busy training to put together the hardest possible routine. So no system is perfect.
@@soledadferrer1325 honestly there is no right or no wrong. everyone can prefer their own style. I am glad lilia won the 96 all around over gina. Gina just played it safe. I prefer something who take more risk to win.
The USA crowd ruined these games for everyone else.
The chanting is so disrespectful to visiting competitors.
I know she has a lot of naysayers but I enjoy her gymnastics, so effortless and consistent, makes everything look so easy.

@@objetivista686 it’s true. She did everything needed for that code with very few deductions. That’s how she stayed in the medals.
So consistent, excellent. I love watching Gogean
More cooler than a cucumber.

One judge gave her a 9.9 😳
Yeah the Romanian one lol
@@Kaboomboo los rumanos se pasan xdd
That same judge gave Borden a 9.6 for her beam routine!
She was a great gymnast - I thought her routines were beautiful. Her execution (over a longish career) was probably the best of any gymnast ever!
😳 She's amazing.

Woww, por algo siempre decía, algo tiene que en los mundiales anteriores y posteriores era dist9nta, wow, valla datazo, que tal deportista!
FABULOUS..GOD BLESS HER
So where was her tumbling series?! That high score made no sense for a routine that featured little difficulty, smh....
They must have paid off the judges... dmbfk.
it was a 10 start value, so the score was ok
In her dismount.
Her dismount qualified as her tumbling series.

Not all D skills were the same dynamically but had the same letter grade. The problem still exists. Look at double backs vs back 5/2 twists on FX.
