Many people say that 2000 the Romanians won because of the Russian mistakes. It's probably true but noone can say the same about them in 2004. The 2004 romanian team was simply the best team in those Olympics.
Yeah the 2000 team barely won over the Russians, but the 2004 team was untouchable. It was a competition to see who would take silver and bronze.
Dominant when people lose they always find an excuse
But staying on the apparatus is part of the game! I don't believe in the "she won because the other fell", since the prize is awarded to the athlete who performs well under pressure, that is fair I think. It is part of the mental game to deliver when it matters. That is why I prefer the old scoring system, a mistake changed the outcome, competitions were much more exciting!

Such beautiful extension and flexibility in Catalina’s legs when she goes in for step out layouts. One of the best bean workers ever!!!

This Romanian team were absolutely incredible; they were so well prepared. Every one fantastic. Now that Belu is back maybe we will see stars like these girls again? I hope so:)

This competition was the pinnacle of Romanian gymnastics which unfortunately was tarnished by Olympic Comiittee’s decision to strip Andrea Raducan an of the all around Gold medal for taking a cold pill

Their bars feel very tight, but amazing beam!
Actually, Romania wasn't the main favourite to win the gold that year. Yes, they were the reigning champions and had the best reputation since 1976 but after Sydney the entire gold team of Amanar,Răducan and Olaru retired and B&B needed to build a brand new team in less than 2 years between various press scandals. It was a though challenge for them. From that moment Romania started the slow but sure decline of its system until the catastrophic 2016. They lost the world title in 2003 to USA after 10 years of dominance. The only gymnasts that seemed capable of acheiveing gold were Ponor and Munteanu. Munteanu went out due to injuries just before the Games and Romania wasn't seen as a certain favourite. The discipline of B&B got the gold, not the mistakes of the Americans and Russians.
But...in 2005 the actual team was disolved again, only Ponor remaining in the field. B&B retired and the decline really started.
Yeah, but since 2000 Belu had declared that their system would not survive unless there was a change, specially on the allocation of resources to the small clubs. I hope their current " tare, tare"project succeeds, there are already some talents emerging.

@volinakis I think you misunderstood what she/he meant by "ugly"; she meant that their bars routines were ugly, with bended knees, she didnt mean that the Romanian gymnasts were ugly;)

and then ...romanian governments after 2012 decided to make big cuts for sport budget ...almost to zero ...so no wonder that romanian sport (for Olympic Games) suffered greatly and is dead now ...
