    Great video, Ian! Those mini splits are really gaining popularity. I think you did a great job highlighting the great benefits of having one of these units. You're doing an awesome job!!

      Thank you Matthew! I'm excited to install it this weekend and subsequently install the solar to see how effective these types of products can be for people trying to reduce grid energy consumption or just avoid having to connect to the grid altogether.

    They need to come out with a solar powered mini with a central air handler setup for retrofits that would be sweet.

    Nice presentation, I have three supplementing my house 24k, 18k,18k, they really enjoy a level and plumb install.

      That is awesome! Did you do them all DIY? The outdoor unit I need to level just a hair more it's about 2 degrees leaning outwards but still working incredibly well

      @@ianmburke Yes did them myself, I found some literature that the bearings could wear prematurely if the unit is not both plum and level, it was fiddley as the wall mounts are less than precise, wife not happy about the looks of the inside unit but it works great. The ceiling units were not readily available. Are you going to do dedicated solar to each unit or run a inverter from solar and power the systems.

    I have a 992 sq ft townhouse here in FL and my central air conditioning just went up. I'm thinking of getting two of these units instead of replacing my old unit.

      For that sqft you could even get 2 of the 12k / 1 ton units and it would keep it really cold. I have this unit upstairs in my house which is about 1300 sqft and it keeps it at 68 on 90 degrees days

    I am interested in seeing how many solar panels it takes to run one 2ton unit. I live in Southside VA with plenty of sun. Would love to power a few units on my 1786 Plantation home and outbuildings. Will be watching your future progress for progress.

      I think roughly 1200-2000 watts of solar is all you need and that is about 3 or 4, 400w panels. I'm personally going to see how far I can over panel it so even in low light, morning, or cloud cover still get a high level output. My goal is for the units to almost never be on unless they are solar powered. These units sound like the perfect solution for your type of situation!

      These units will eventually ONLY be run from solar so most of the hottest times of the day they will make it so that the central air units do not have to run. Then when the sun is down, the original units can kick on and also capitalize on the circulation function of the ducts. Additionally your assumption is not based off of SQFT this is a 4600sqft house which would need about 5-6 tons to cool/heat

    Who in the world would plug a solar panel directly into a compressor? Makes no sense to me.

      The EG4 is the 'brains' for what happens after it is plugged in. It isn't 'directly into the compressor' that is not an accurate representation of what is happening. This all in one simply makes the plugging in a lot easier.

      Similarly charging your DC powered cell phone with an AC outlet doesn't make sense if you do not fundamentally understand what is happening in the electronics in-between

      @@ianmburke solar is very unreliable in terms of constant and stable voltage with spikes up and down.
      Usually a battery is used as a middle man to mitigate this.
      So directly connecting the panel to a compressor (if that's what was done) is in fact not the best plan

      Agreed, but obviously the engineers who designed this considered those things, internally it has its own MPPT and Capacitors to regulate/stabilize the voltage as well as the motor itself is three phase so variable voltage is more manageable. The listed voltage and array size are oversized so that it can normalize the voltage much more easily. But you are 100% without those features it would destroy a compressor.
