I'm 17 male, I've thought about cross dressing for a long time and exploring my gender, I've always felt really feminine but I look super masculine (heavy roadman aesthetic) and I don't think my friends would take to kindly to there mate walking about dressed as a girl. I bought some stuff online once but within twenty minutes cancelled the order as I couldn't justify buying clothes I could only ever wear for a short amount of time at night alone, plus having to hide all the stuff and not getting caught would be a pain. Watching stuff like this makes me feel good about the future for some reason. I've been really unlucky with employment but with my first interview is coming up soon I really hope that once I get a job I can move out, go to college (Scotland so college is an elective thing more like uni rather than in England were I think its a bit different) and just kinda be me and do my own thing. Your channel helps me alot so thanks :)).
I was like this too when I was your age. I had a few bits of womens clothes I could gather (with no money) hidden away and I'd put them on everytime I was alone even though they werent close to fitting, looked horrible on me and was not my style at all I loved it but also hated I didn't look how I wanted. I never really knew much about trans people and thought I was just some perv or something. A lot of stuff I had to unwind and deconstruct lol. Go at your own pace and wherever you end up is where you end up. Figure stuff out, have fun in private if thats all you feel comfortable with for the time being and personally I used to think I looked masculine but all that turned out to be was that when I purposely trying to look masculine I did and when I wanted to look feminine I did. I think a lot of people would be surprised how close masculine and feminine can be. When it comes to friends I hear a lot of people say get better friends but as an autistic trans women I get thats easier said than done. Especially when you're 17 and likely trapped in your local area. I used to experiment with gender under the guise of it being all a joke when I was younger, such a convincing guise it not only convinced all my friends and family but also myself. I used to take every opportunity to put makeup on (as a joke) or cross dress (as a joke) that I could. If thats what it takes then thats what it takes but as you get older, you'll have more freedom and you'll be able to experiment a lot more freely I promise. Especially at something like uni basically anything goes and there's such a diversity of people. I say all this as a trans women and I'm not prescribing you with trans merely as a trans women I experimented with gender and if you would like to too then this is my advice. Wherever you end up its all cool. Be cis or genderfluid or trans or gender non-comforming femboy, it doesn't matter what you've once considered yourself to be, it only matters what you think and feel in the moment.
College could be a perfect opportunity to make good new friends in LGBTQ+ spaces where you could find people who can help you express yourself. Fashion wise maybe you could try an androgynous style first to slowly change and build confidence, then maybe change to a more feminine style gradually if that’s the look you want.
I’d encourage you to learn your body type! We can all dress however we want but different things look different on different people, and it can be useful to be aware of what parts of your body different kinds of clothes will emphasize or minimize or where the composition of an outfit will draw your eyes to. Picking a color palette of clothes that you generally feel good in can also be useful if you want a somewhat consistent style and also has the benefit that even if you don’t put much effort into an outfit if it’s all within a certain color pallete there will be some amount of aesthetic cohesion if any clothes you could grab to throw on would fall within that palette that looks generally good together! It’s really about what you like how you look and feel in, those are just some things that helped me, good luck!
Got to appreciate the confidence and sticking with the educational aspect of it, by saying "this clothing item really didn't fit me and I didn't like how it looked on me" yet still showing it in the video so viewers understand what does and doesn't match. Respect ❤
I love how applicable the advice in your fashion videos is to everyone. I exclusively shop for cloths at secondhand stores, and most of your advice is still applicable to me.
yep, same too. never been able to work out why, she just somehow sounds so good. *sigh* ...something else for my list of unrealistic transition goals 😂
I feel the impulsivity thing so much. I buy almost everything at thrift stores where there's usually only one of an item, not multiple sizes. Consequently, when I see a *really* cool clothing item, I will sometimes ignore how poorly it fits or how it doesnt suit my body well because the item is so cool that I just want it to work. It's lead to me re-donating a lot 😭
I'm a gender non conforming male who recently started dressing feminine when I feel more feminine and started with lots of very e-girl/emo black clothes but I've been trying to branch out when I wear feminine clothes (Which ironically also made me pay way better attention to what I wear when I'm wearing masculine clothes too haha). Videos like this or the one you did on silhouettes and the 2/3rds rule have been very helpful in upping my feminine clothes game.
My view on fashion is comfort. Does it have to look good? No. Does it have to match? No. All that matters is that you feel comfortable in it both physically and mentally, and the latter is far more important. If it feels nice on your skin, that’s a great bonus to the outfit! But do you feel comfortable in it mentally is far more important. If a clothing item makes you happy, it doesn’t matter whether it looks good, whether it’s comfortable, whether it looks good on you, or whether it matches; because it’s you, and that’s all that matters! Of course, this is also because I’m horrible at fashion and despise it, so I just grab what’s comfortable lol
My starter wardrobe is nothing but thrift clothing, found some cute things and got them, already wearing things I got, other then my dress, not ready for that but I do wear it around the house.
6:20 thats so dope!! Thank you for this. I look back at some of my first outfits when I was looking for my style, and a few of them look odd on my body the last time I tried them on. I'm embracing my body and the changes that have happened since starting my transition. This time around, I will be wiser about my purchases, and embracing trying clothes on without feeling weird.
Great video! I gotta say tho, the handbag skirt looks really interesting but it seems sooooo impractical. With a garment like that, you'd at least want it to be detachable, right? Like can you even sit down with something like that? Then again, it is really eye-catching so maybe that trade-off is worth it?
This video is amazing! As someone with a pretty bad shopping addiction (I'm a lot better now than I used to be), I always struggle to seperate the feeling of excitement from actual interest in a piece, so I deffo will be coming back to this video in the future to snap myself back into reality before getting something! Also I'd love a full closet tour, your outfits are always so nice ^^
I usually learn skills like these intuitively (when applied to myself), but these videos actually help me better understand how to think about *other* people's wardrobes. Thanks, Icky!
navy blue and that shade of brown look super good together. u should definitely wear the hoodie and a similar top or the same top you are wearing with that shirt bag 🤭🤍
My style tips: Always wear at least three prominent green things. Everything else should be brown or black. Socks (calf to knee length) ALWAYS go over pants.(blousing). Wrap pant leg over before blousing. A solid color neckerchief can be a lighter or brighter tone than your shirt, like lime, kelly or beige. One ring per hand. Drop point is the most stylish blade shape. Stitched leather belts are NOT acceptable. Single thickness stock. No plated buckles. Simple nickel silver is fine. A cap feather should be no longer than 6 protruding inches. Seven inches and higher is arrogant. Less than 4 is pointless, unless the feather has sentimental value. A large 100% wool capote or poncho is the superior winter overgarment. The simplest watch face that stops short of total abstraction is the best. 1950s era omega seamaster watches are the most attractive watches ever made. Resist the almost overpowering urge to get a pocketwatch. It's a trap. Suede chukka boots do everything, from the outdoors, to the ballroom, to a life or death struggle with a furious Greek.
What’s a different kind of “passing privilege” is that because I (apparently) have a strong sense of style, people usually don’t believe that I am homeless and extremely poor. Great that people think I look “put together”, but also makes it harder to find help. Often the kernel of the outfit is whatever I could find that fit my weird physique, had some aesthetic, and I could afford. Then I find other stuff that goes with these, and an outfit puzzles together. IMO I look like an eccentric lesbian art teacher.
