- WORST U.S CHAMPS | Failed United States Champions!
The United States Title has had quite a history. After all, this is the same belt that John Cena once so memorably elevated with his weekly open challenge, and it’s also the same belt that Booker T and Chris Benoit fought over in a Best of Seven Series back on 2006 SmackDown. But not all title reigns are created equal. No, some are just outright terrible and do nothing but devalue the belt. But what are the worst of these in WWE history? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today.

@WRESTLEWITHANDY Now that the Intercontinental Championship have been elevated to nearly World Championship levels, do you feel if giving a proper spotlight and time, the United States Championship can reach those heights again?
John Cena is the greatest US and WWE champion of all time.
@trewilliams8411 for WWE, yes, but outside of WWE, that would be both Luger and Flair. Flair holds the most reigns at 6, although it's not recognized for some reason
@@SheriffOutlaw cena actually should have been a 6 time champion so that really doesn’t matter cause Cena was sabotaged in his career by haters fan backlash Cena was supposed have been a 6 time US champ long ago. But way to many fans complained and sabotaged John Cena career Cena was forced to lose matches he shouldn’t have lost Cena is actually a greater US champion in the US and outside of it then Luger and flair.
It’s crazy that Dean Ambrose is the longest reigning ( WWE ) United States Champion and nothing memorable was done in his reign
All I remember from his reign is that defense against Kingston and when he lost it in the battle royal
I think they should gave him more title defenses
He was never that good anyways his current run in AEW proves it
Awful.
FACTS.
I laughed when Roman told Dean that he had to defend the US title back in 2013 - 2014 when Roman is famous for rarely defending his title. 😂😂
Tbf that was 2014 roman not 2024 but I get what ur saying hahaha
FACTS😂.
Roman is a legit superstar at this point in his career though. Him just having a match is a special occasion
John Cena in 2015 beat dean ambrose decisively
@@jomantis5🎯🎯
The fact that they brought back Bret hart from retirement only for him to wrestle in the ring while he was past his prime shows how small of a value they gave to US title during that time.
You are everywhere 🫡
And what makes it even crazier is that was his 5th Reign at that point. He won it 4x in WCW
FACTS.
Half the US champions on this list could have had great reigns if the booking was not complete rubbish. Look at Dean as an example. He barely defended the title because Vince and management did not care about the mid card titles.
That sounds like I am not going to blame and but on the booking. Ambrose sucked at the time.
FACTS dude.
If we are being fair, Miz could make the list. Who here can say they remember anything coming from his 2 reigns?
See it is that kind of negative talk is why new wrestlers struggle to get over. Also please do not put fucking words in my mouth again you #£%^^&&&@jmurdock8303
@@jmurdock8303 still does and is worse now
Truth winning the belt was an actual accident as Truth told Mike Chioda a roll-up would end that match, but didn't tell him how many would be hit before the actual finish, meaning Mike just thought that roll-up was the finish, Vince thought it was so funny he had them run with it for the few weeks
Also, sorry Joe, Andy, or whoever, but it seems Truth might be picking up two belts at once during a special weekend in the WWE's calendar
The WWE version of the United States Championship shares the same lineage as the NWA/WCW version so if you want to include WCW, I would add David Flair and Kanyon.
Raven and Rhino as well unfortunately
FACTS.
Chris Kanyon was at least a phenomenal wrestler that inspired the current day may he rest in peave
Part of what hurt Kalisto's reign is how it was only defended on preshows
True. Kalisto was beating Ryback clean and yet it didn't feel at all like a big deal given the size difference between the two cause it wasn't treated as anything important. I honestly do think Kalisto could've been more for WWE, but he was never gonna be the next Rey Mysterio.
The best thing Orlando Jordan did with the U.S. Championship is lose it to Chris Benoit in 25 seconds and lose 3 to 4 times after
Bobby Roode should've been a HEEL like he was in NXT, They turned him Babyface on main roster debut then flushed down the toilet.
Roode's WWE main roster run under Vince was just a huge factor that Vince didn't know a good thing when he had it, or he didn't care if it wasn't his guys.
I miss the old us title design
Tbh
Kalisto being U.S champion was probably the most memorable part of his career for me
Runner up would be being one half of The Lucha Dragons with Sin Cara
"Good Lucha thing" is up there for me
i loved the lucha dragons sm, sad either of them have any sort of memorable success
One major factor that also tarnish the U.S. title was the fact that in NWA/WCW, the U.S. titleholder was considered the No. 1 contender for the world title….in WWE that concept was 86ed.
Eightsixed?
@@thelonewolf70x7 dumped….terminated
it isn't even a secondary belt. it is more like participation medal that you get for turning up.
Finn balor too was a lacklustre us champion people may even forget he had a reign , theory was mediocre at best apollo crews too didnt do much with it ,sheamus too barely defended the title ,riddle too had it only for few months the Only ones since John Cenas Us title Reign who fought and somewhat elevated the title was Damian priest he won it in summerslam from sheamus defended it against hardy ,drew , Sheamus ,ziggler ,roode ,styles , apollo , sami ,etc he had on total 14 defences which included some very physical no dq matches and great triple threats as well 😊
That R-Truth take has to be the biggest L take I've seen in years.
I geniunely hope he becomes tag champion so you can cry all over it.
I'd like to see him challenge for the world championship again. He's GREAT on the mic and still goes crazy in the ring. He's an all rounder and it sucks to see his talent wasted for so long
THIS
He needs to shed the comedy angle first. Though to be honest Truth is in his element with the comedy.
The thing with Truth that some people can't wrap their heads around is that he's a chameleon, and he can take any spot on the card and do it well. Need a low card comedy act? Truth is there. Need someone in your main event title feud? Truth can do that too.
Giving Rey the US title was so stupid. Santos needed it more.
I completely agree but think they wanted to use that to further the heel turn
You do realize that it built to the better story of this heel run Santos is on now that's gonna result in him having a match at Mania. That alone justifies Rey winning the title. Plus Rey and Logan had that really good match at Crown Jewel.
Orlando Jordan was The Ultimate Warrior’s final opponent
I checked his cagematch profile not too long ago and was genuinely baffled when I saw that 😂
That pretty crazy that orlando FREAKING jordan of all people was the ultimate warriors last match😂.
Suits him right.
You totally forgot Finaly and Mr. Kennedy. "But wait, Finlay and Mr. Kennedy never held the US title". Exactly my point.
To be fair those reigns were relatively short and didn't feel important or offensive to the title's lineage as both were rather high mid-card talent at the time.
If i was a heel defending the U.S. Title, I'd issue an open challenge every week, but deny any non-Americans a title shot, unless they can get a I.C.E. Agent to vouch for their Work Visa.
Can we appreciate John Cena for ACTUALLY treating the US title as if it was a Main Event title? 👏
Word Life
I give Cena a lot of flak, but I'll give the devil his due here and say that no matter what he's told to do he throws 110% into it to try and make it feel special. I've never been excited to see him on TV and never will, but he never gives less than his best.
No, because it shouldn't be treated as a main event title, it's a mid card title. There is only one main event title, the WWE Title.
@@thrasher122489 dude your so wrong and stupid the US title has a longer history then the actual wwe title it’s treated as a mid card title but the point is to elevate the titles to where it can be main event status.
@@thrasher122489I think he meant making it feel important.
OH SNAP!!! i forgot corbin won the US title. after he won the nxt tag titles, i thought that was his first title in the wwe.
He's had a pretty decent list of accomplishments. Just sad creative could have made his pushes so much better. His lone wolf gimmick was great. Shame taker wasn't working full-time during that run cause they could have had a really good program.
@@videogames4life475The worst of all of this, was the fact that hr cashed-in on Jinder Mahal as he was the WWE Champion back then, and LOSE IT because Cena (what a surprise) ruined it by distracting him and Jinder retained... by a ROLL-UP! So Corbin didn't had any strong aura behind him, the U.S. Title already felt like something worthless since John Cena lost it; and Corbin ended up losing his push and any credibility he ever had back then, only because (pff), he spoke against a doctor which didn't consideres CTE as a something to worry about, as they were treating it like it was nothing (which is pretty stupid, since, well, Chris Benoit).

I wish they brought back Bret for cutting promos with young talents during that time, Bringing him back to wrestle while he was past his prime was the complete opposite of a good decision.
Bret can't cut a promo to save a life.
That was my favorite time in wrestling
@@heavymetal116 I think heel Bret was great on the mic
I disagree, I LOVED every second of truth's 2019 reign. Idk, there was something about it that made me smile. I get where you're coming from tho and I value your input and opinion. however, them taking the belt off of Nakamura seemed like more of a botch than anything if you rewatch the match they transition right into the next sequence after the three count (which seemed fast)
OTHER NOTABLE MENTIONS
1. ROMAN REINGS
2. JACK SWAGGER
3. JINDER MAHAL
4. AUSTIN THEORY
5. RANDY ORTON
6. SHINSUKE NAKAMURA
7. FINN BALOR
8. MATT HARDY
9. JBL
10. CARLITO
Mr. Kennedy and Finlay as well
Crazy how del rio is a former 4 time world champ
Yet Kofi isn't on this list. I literally don't remember anything about his IC or US title reigns. Even though this is supposedly a list of US Champs being memorable. I remember Ambrose being US Champ like it was yesterday, but he's on this list. 🤔
4:45 Nakamura did no bouts as he didn't even defend it during his US title for several months.
FACTS.
Rollins did good with the title also
I am no Corbin fan and never been but to say Corbin couldn't wrestle is a lie. Corbin was a boring big difference even in his NXT days he had ability. His deep 6 and End of days were both over.
Surprised you resisted mentioning Corbins defenses where Sin Cara was made to look like a credible threat, Sin frickin Cara
How is Bobby Roode and Baron Corbin on here but not Dolph Ziggler who vacated it for no reason or logic?
Because this video is a hit piece
Plus it gets annoying how they focus on match quality, there's more than having good matches that make a wrestler or championship reign great
Barron Corbin’s title reign was such a disappointment as it was the best opportunity for him to improve his wrestling skills against great mid card stars. Instead they used it as a way to get more heat and have more to say on the mic to get heat. Which Barron did not need as he has always had great mic skills and is extremely effective at getting heat
I loved his lone wolf gimmick. Such a great heel. Could have really had a great run if creative would have booked him better.
@@videogames4life475 absolutely, he was incredible at getting heat he was just consistently booked terribly
Putting the US Title on Bret Hart made zero sense. I get WWE wanted the feel-good moment, but he was not an active wrestler and would never get cleared to wrestle again.
From NWA-WCW the US Belt never had a bad champion.
Yes they did. When Piper had the US Title he washed up; he couldn't carry good matches w/o stipulations any longer.
@@blacknetsmed Even with the 13 days he was Champion- it’s still Roddy Piper.
I disagree with Truth's second run. Compared to other runs during that time, it wasn't bad. I also think had we gotten him facing his "childhood hero" in a title match, it would've elevated the title some.
Bret Hart winning the us title in 2010 was freaking stupid talk about pointless
Logan Paul's reign is a joke. Doing things to it makes it look like a prop than a championship.
The issue with Ambrose’s us title reign. Creative forgot he had it.
But the only remember Seth and Roman tag team title at that time
How dare you the master of the goodest of Lucha things on this list. 😂
i disagree with the notion that comedy acts don't deserve titles that sounds so condescending too, as if they're just clowns for us to laugh at but don't deserve to succeed. R-Truth 100% deserve to be champion and be funny at the same time, he's very good in the ring and that deserves recognition. They were comedy acts but they weren't "a joke"
“Hell,” lol. Just messin with you. Justice for Apollo!
The way you use "hell" as a transitional term reminds me of my older brother. He is the reason I'm here watching this video, he got me into wrestling in the early 90s and I love bro for that. You the man Andy keep up the great work!
WWE Review in the Year 2010 We All Want
1:12 to 1:18 That part was written by Seth Rollins himself 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The WCW US belt was the best US belt design 👍
Anyone notice how the US belt damn near looked silver when Baron Corbin held it
Wonder how Mox feels about heading back north since Vince McCaveMahon done fucked around got erased 😂
Well, now you have to do the worst intercontinental championships of all time/world champions
I liked Titus Worldwide it made me an Apollo Crews fan
I understand what Chris Benoit did was awful but I don’t try to “forget” his accomplishments. My studies in college were around neurology and I don’t think people understand that a solid hit to your frontal lobe alone can change you as a person completely. I think the most famous example of a serious head injury changing a person completely was Phinneas Gage; I might be spelling the name wrong but anyone that took a basic psychology class probably knows who I’m referring to. His was obviously more extreme as he had essentially a pipe go through his frontal lobe but his story is pretty insane. Regardless the point is that concussions, drugs/alcohol, and other physical trauma to your skull can cause you to do things you thought you’d never do…I grew up watching Benoit in the 90’s and early 2000’s as I was graduating high school and I don’t think about what happened.
like paul heyman said 3 people died in that house only one had a choice
R-Truth happened to become champion by mistake, Shinsuke Nakamura had to kickout
Honestly The United States Championship Is my favorite WWE belt hell I'll take lengthy Midcard run with It than The World Heavyweight and WWE Championship
U forget one person: Dolph Ziggler
His first US champion reign was alright
@@hussainjan802agreed
He was thinkin 2017@@hussainjan802
R Truth never put on a bad comedy unlike Santino
R-Truth’s run with the US Title was really forgettable in 2010
That R-truth reign also started as a fluke. Shin kicked out at 2 and they kept wrestling but the ref sounded the bell anyway.
The matches Benoit and Booker had was just wwe trying to recapture the magic they made when they had a series of matches for the TV title in wcw...
Let's be honest Logan Paul should be in the list.
No question.
I don't think he's doing that bad of a job. He's not a full timer, but at least he's having an entertaining feud with Owens; also, the fact that they made a tournament just to find a contender for his title makes the title feels important.
I’d give it some time. He had a decent match against owens at the rumble.
Nah, his matches are fire as hell.
He sucks!
I hope this title becomes just as important as IC title someone like Sami, KO can do that Logan doing it fine so far but we need a workhorse
The only workhorses on SD whi could possibly elvate the US title are either AJ or Pete Dunne. I think Dunne would be a great choice to be US champion
Make L.A. Knight the next U.S. Champion. He will be the right man to restore glory to that title. YEAH!!!!!
The US championship had better prestige in WCW! Magnum TA one of the greatest United States Champion of all time!❤
still dont understand the point of the US title when the IC title exists.
But... it is a secondary title. But no i get what you mean
I feel like Chris Benoit and Booker T really elevated the US title better than John Cena. Thanks for the new video, Andy 💜🇵🇷😍💪🏻
They did

You hit it right on the nose!
The US title is a mid card title but it's always been treated like a LOWER MID CARD title by WWE. The IC title is considered the UPPER MID CARD title... The US title basically became the European title.
The company never really cared for it and it shows. So many bad title reigns or forgettable ones.
how on/off part of judgment day? HE IS part of judgment day
I have never heard a single positive thing about baron corbin
I noticed in every vid I watched you say titular and respectively what do they mean
Wow I’m amazed Baron Corbin’s reign was that long
Can we finally admit that Vince was an awful booker
Nah. I can agree with that. It was a great title victory. Creative botched the booking for him like they always do.
Orlando Jordan is so underrated.
They did Dean dirty with his US title reign. He could’ve done great things with that run and it could’ve helped established him as a workhorse and helped elevate the title back to prestige.
I miss The Hart Dynasty
Rey mysterio definitely needs mentioned
I don't know why Ambrose was on this list. That was when he was clearly the leader of The Shield.
Lol
Well sure, but that doesn’t change the fact his title U.S title run was nothing memorable. Leader of the Shield or not.
I remember him holding the belt and that’s about it.
The misuse of Bobby Roode is one of the worse blunders in the Company.
Nah R Truth deserves a title. Him and Miz about to win the tag belts from judgement day at Mania!!
The Worst there is the worst there was the worst there ever will be. Simple fact if he was as good as he claimed he never would have had the concussion problem because he would have adjusted himself to minimize the impact.
The value is now completely diminished now that Logan Paul has it
Saying that Corbin cant wrestle well is pretty harsh
When booker T gave it away in the invasion!
Well this didn't age well when it comes to R Truth not having any more belts as he's one half of the current world tag team Champs
16:00 "Booking boOkiNg" 😆🤣
The US title just feels like a title WWE stopped caring about. Sure they’re have been good matches for it since Cena’s open challenge but it hasn’t felt important since then. I’m hoping WWE can fix this like they did with the IC championship.
I disagree with your opinion about kalisto because I feel bad for him being through everything his friend being injured, and even getting beat up by literally everyone in the locker
This video should have been "why WWE didn't know how to book the U.S Championship". It's not the performer's fault. It's management.
AFTER SUCH GREAT U.S. Champions, instead of making a mockery of the title, the company should’ve just deactivated it. Just my two cents.
Crazy I didn’t even know R Truth won the title in 2019
They need to retire the belt. Even the IC championship is gaining back prestige thanks to Gunther. The U.S. title to me never had prestige
It is true that sometimes the performers themselves are to blame for lackluster title reigns. If you're as good as you're touted, then management placing a title on you means you have to show why the hype is deserved. HOWEVER, as with the bad IC champs list, either the booker had zero clue as to the true ability of said performer, or the booker is just terrible at this job. To that end, keep in mind how many of these bad title reigns were under Vince McMahon. This was a man who actively called his company's championships 'props,' proceeded to book them as such, and made them seem worthless in the process. No one is perfect, but he seemed to want to actively destroy those titles!
R-Truth as US Champion in 2019 was the best, shut up. He was defending it constantly in bangers, no joke about it.
Dean Ambrose’s reign felt like anime after a fight. A bunch of filler
I don't think Santino was funny. He was a joke and annoying.
Kalisto wrestled for premier pro wrestling they have a loser leaves town match with the American ninja warrior semsei really great league with up and comers
Absolute disagree about how comedy acts shouldn't hold titles. World titles sure but with midcard titles theres absolutely room for short and quick feel-good reigns for the loveable goofs in the company
Current day Shinsuke Nakamura is way better
The interesting thing is most of the people on this list who also had a IC run or two had wwway better or at least better runs with the IC belt compared to the US. Apollo Crew and Ziggler Prime examples.
WHY ISN'T MICHAEL HAYES ON THIS LIST
