- #262. An Exciting NEW ERA For Resin Art!
In todays Resin Art video I try hairspray again but on epoxy resin with the petri effect!
This is a continuation from #258 where I mentioned that this technique could give us more control over our ink placements in our epoxy resin.
In this video I try my theory of blending the sinker white alcohol ink 50/50 with some isopropyl alcohol.
I also see if I can replicate/make two almost identical resin art pieces using the petri effect and I tried a different stir of my resin to see if we can achieve new styles and designs.... 100% more to come on that idea!

They are still very pretty. My thoughts is you sprayed them all with the hair spray at same time but then dropping each set was a longer and longer time hair spray on hair drys rapidly so maybe when you find one you love know how long it's had been since you sprayed it. Just a thought. Higs Sheryl from Indiana USA đ©”đšđ©”
This is such a great point! đ€©đ€© I totally agree now you have mentioned this! Thanks Sheryl đ€©
If my stuff came out half as good as these Iâd be over the moon. Youâre way too hard on yourself. Theyâre gorgeous đđâ€ïž
Agreed!
Thanks so much đ đ
You do such beautiful artwork with the inks.
I was thinking, and this might be too difficult given the size of the pieces, but what if you tried layering the hairspray & resin so that there are 2 points at which the ink and sinker/alcohol mix are stopped.
1. Pour 1/2 the amount of total resin in the piece
2. Spray with hairspray and let it dry
3. Carefully, using the back of a small đ„ spoon, pour the resin very slowly over the small spoon guiding the resin over the dried hairspray until itâs covered.
4. Spray hairspray on top as the last layer and then let it dry.
Now add your ink & sinker.
I wonder if the first layer of hairspray will stop the inks and sinker from going all the way to the bottom- or top, as it would be on the finished piece.
I would try this myself, I have everything EXCEPT for the talent & practice. I have never used the ink with resin yet. I plan toâŠ..
BTW - I know that layering liquids using the back of a spoon can work because I used to make B52 shots when I bartended long ago đ
Love this channel!
There is such a learning curve with resin.
Itâs great to show how itâs really an experiment.
Thanks Tracy đ đ
Beautiful love the colors
The pink on the small hearts look like cherry blossoms!
Thank you đ đ
I live in Eugene, Oregon, in the USA. Our state university (U of O) is based here, and their colors are green and yellow. Their mascot is a duck, incidentally.
At any rate, my immediate thought at seeing a pair of ovals with an attempt at uniformity, was earrings. Just pick an end and drill a small hole to install the hardware.
Holy moly that effect is madness I love it nice job buddy
Thanks bro đđ„°đ
WOW beautiful
Absolutely stunning pieces, I am also so in awe of your pieces every time! I try doing simple one colour resin pieces and always always feel disappointed in the outcome. You my friend are amazing đ€© â€
Thanks so much Sarah đ đ âșïž
I think you might get the result you want by pouring a small amount in the form and letting it dry and then add resin with your colors as usual.
They are gorgeous, love these â€â€â€â€
Getting more gorgeous every time! Thanks!â€
đ thank you
When you turned over the hearts, I said "wow" out loud to myself!
I really liked the square one, too! I saw orange just as another colour!
Thanks Daniel.
Hugs from đšđŠ
Thanks Lori đ đ đ« đ
The back of the square is cool.
The beauty of hand made is that no two are ever the same.
Very true but with petri, it would be nice to be able to recreate a show stopping piece đ I have created some amazing pieces in the past and never have I been able to get close to them again, with this, it could be possible đ„°
Very pretty love your experiments
You help many people
Thanks Kim đ
My favorite if I had to choose one is the square. Love the design you swirled into it. I have faith that you will accomplish being able to make matching pieces eventually. You never give up!
Thanks Cindy đ đ đ«
Those came out beautiful!
Thanks Pat đ đ
OOOH! PURTY! đđđ I would be *thrilled* if I could get these results, Dan! LOVE those hearts! That is ORANGE, Dan! Not "mud"! đ I like spores as long as they're not splodging up the surface. I want to see what's under them!
Thank you for another fun experiment, guy...get some rest! đđ
Thank you đ đ
Dunno if someone has already suggested it but maybe spray them again after the inks have gone in but before the sinker goes in to create a new hair spray barrier? Love the vids!!!!
Interesting idea, it could blast the inks though?
Also spraying at an angle for the purposes of the camera can't guarantee the same coverage. Maybe hold card over the other cavities and use it like spray paint? Just a thought đ. Anyway, they are similar enough that I would definitely wear them as a pair of earrings. If they were identical, they'd feel more like mass produced to me. Love that square even with the muddying, stayed within the realms of orange to me. Class as always, thanks đ
Thank you for the video, they look fab to me. I am a beginner and learning crom you
Hi Daniel wow amazing love the technique đ đ thanks for sharing †xx
Thanks Michelle đ đ đ«
Jel-lo Cooper!!! Pray all is well, thank you for another exciting experimental video!!
Thank you đ đ All good, just very tired đŽ đ
Really good results! đâșïžđŹđ§
Thank you Sue đ đ
Good evening!
Good evening Michele đđ„°
Thank you Daniel, keep up the exceptional work. Very much appreciated xâ€
Thanks Lesley đ Will do đ„°
I love them all, but the square is my favorite. As always, you hit a home run! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm always waiting for your new releases of your videos. Binge watching you all the time. Resin Rock Star in my book!
They are really beautiful đ
Thank you đ
I love these so pretty.
Thanks Kim đ đ đ«
Pretty cool!đ
Thanks as always Dolli đ„°đ«
Hey Daniel - if you haven't tried, I wanted to share that the dropper bottles you have will fit their lids perfectly on the Let's Resin alcohol ink bottles. I had the same trouble with the ink running along the tip and sploodging into my work! If you pull that off (it's just pressure fit into the bottle like a cork) you can take a dropper lid and screw it on and have a super precise dropper on all your inks! It has been AMAZING. I swapped my whole set.
This is genius, I will try, thank you đ đ
Yes!!! I've been sitting here watching the clock waiting for this to dropâ€đ Always fantastic Sir Danielâ€đ Thank you so much!!!
Thanks so much Julie đ đ I almost didn't post tonight as so tired đŽ
These all came out beautifully!
They are beautiful, especially the square one. I love them â€
Another outstanding experiment, wish mine came out this good, i would be over the moon xx
Thanks Julie đ đ đ«
Awesome - love how these turned out - the lady has a point - hair spray dries very quickly - the pump doesnât dry as quick( well not as fast as - spray) still think they all turned out great
Thanks, lots more to try đ
Fascinating!! Thank you Daniel! They are beautiful!!
My pleasure! Thank you đ
Beautiful
I dont think the pink muddied on that last square, i actually think the pigment burned. Ive had that problem recently with pinks and especially purples, they go brown because they get too hot and burn. This happens more often in deeper pours in my experience.
Mmmm. !!! Guess we will have to try it as well. Love the colours...â€
Hey Daniel, have you noticed how after you pour in the resin, but before you put anything else in, on camera, it looks like the perimeter has a silver line all around. It's obviously a trick of the light/camera but wouldn't be cool to make that really happen.
Donât forget, art will always be slightly random. Exact duplicates are machined. Nice job!
Thank you đ I can be a machine đđ„°
They look so cool together
Thank you đ So close to matching for a 1st attempt đ„°
I think they are absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you đ
Very cool as always â€â€â€â€â€
Thank you Tammy đ€
I think they all turned out stunning!â€
Thanks Gail đ đ
As all ways love your work
I think they are all beautiful.â€â€
Thank you đ đ
This is so cool. I wish it would do this with uv resin as well as it does 2 part resin. The last one is so cool. Thank you for sharing. đ
Thanks Katrina đ Can be done with homemade inks but not the same đ
Very beautiful I love the hearts and the squares.
Thanks Kim đ đ đ«
Sorry, if this was suggested before. I think you need a sticky spray, itâs used by t-shirt printers to stick a t-shirt to a metal bed, so that it stays on one spot when printing multiple colours. Iâm not sure how itâs called, though.
These are all gorgeous Daniel but my favourite one and I donât usually pick favourites, is the square one, I love that one so much. Thank you, once again, for all the work you put into your videos. I appreciate everything you do for us and I learn do much from you.
Thanks Pamela đ Will try more like that soon đ
You are such an inspiration to me, a real newby. I love the square one, even with the muddying, which I would just call Orange! Thanks again for all that you do Dan.
I hope you bring back video from Makers! đđ«
Thanks Deb đ đ đ« I may not film but will definitely be taking pics đ
Oh I love all of these earrings yes please đâ€
Thank you đ đ
I think that this is working out really well. The small hearts are my favorites! Thanks for all of these great experiments. đ
Thank you đ đ More to come soon I think đ
Those are all beautiful Daniel đ„°đ
Thanks so much đ
The detail is amazing â€
Thanks Maddie đ đ đ«
Love the designs in all of them Dan. The Oval's are my favourites. Great experimentsâ€
Thanks Wendy đ
Another cool experiment! Aside from the muddying I love the square piece. I think the design is really cool!
Thanks Lisa, will try more like that soon đ
The 2 big hearts reminded me of Piet Mondrian đ. Iâm loving how these are coming out⊠gonna try it out đ«¶đ»â€ïžâ€ïž
They still cool looking â€
Thanks Barb đ đ
In your eyes this might not have turned out but I think these are gorgeous đ€© Iâve tried this itâs harder then it looks
Thanks Gerri đ đ đ«
The square one is my favourite
đđđ
You do such beautiful work with inks, dont no what I am doing but they never look as gorgeous as yours. Your videos are so informative thx
Thanks Linda đ đ
These are fantastic! I just got the Letâs Resin alcohol inks, so cool that hairspray creates this effect!
Thank you đđ
Wow, that square one sure looked different from the back then the front. Love how they turned out.
Thanks Bob, will be trying more like that soon đ
Love theeeemmmm allđ„°
đ„°đ„°đ„°
I still like that square the best. Completely identical is a hard one to get. I think this one was a successful experiment. đ
You prefer the control. đ€ So you're a control freak! đđ€Șđ
Thanks Vicky đ đ
Love emâ€
Thank you đ
Hi Dan! Hope youâre well? xx đ
Hi Fran đ Good thanks đ hope you are too đ
Ok.. trying a coaster.. wish me luck..
Good luck đ
They are awesome love the way they have turned out I wonder if you try hairspray again before you put in the sinker if that help the sinker causing spores?
It's fascinating watching you work & seeing how your brain processes things! đâ€
Thanks Sue đ đ
Maybe fill with resin quarter in mold, spray hairspray, then fill and hairspray again?
May try it soon and see đ
I think you need a device that would swirl the colours in a pattern that you canât do with your hand, or even one that slowly and finely impregnates the resin with colour while swirling not only in horizontal, but vertically as well. That way you could get a snake body with sharp edges, for example.
Or make layers. Swirl one colour in one layer, then another colour on another layer, and so on. Try to make layers along the surface, that repeat the outer 3d form of an object. (Iâd apply a thin layer that stays stuck and then repeat the process). Use some 3d objects with space between them. Try using 3d printer to create molds.
Sorry, thoughts are rushing, canât control them.
Thanks, I have thought about making a turning stand to swirl the colors but the issue is the mold being the shape it is, great ideas though đ
Coolness.
Thank you đ đ
Hi Daniel, theres a lot of comments, so I apologize if someone else has asked, but hairsprays have different hold levels. I wonder how different the results would be using a strong vs lite hold type hairspray? Have an awesome day đđ
They're ALL really pretty. I like the square one the best. Seems like everyone does hearts, and ovals. I like the NOT USUAL things....things that are set apart from what everyone else does. AKA: UNIQUE !!
Thank you đ đ
What would happen if you sprayed the hairspray a second time, after the alcohol inks, but before the white sinker? Maybe another slight barrier would help keep the white from sinking quite so much.
Hi Daniel! What if you drop your ink, then hairspray and then the sinker? I love your work! You definitely inspire our creativity â€
Hi, it could work but could also push the colors around đ€
Back to the drawing board
Yes but I'm not sure I could better this, maybe I will concentrate on the new swirl designs, I may get better matching pairs đ„°
All are unique đ„° jus a thought đ€...lol what if you put hairspray first then resin then another layer of hairspray ?
just have work some dan magic on the sinker,, maybe less alcohol in sinker :) big love and thanks as always for sharing with us legend
Thank you đ I think the sinker is good for now, need to test a few more things before I'm totally happy with it though đ
Just a thoughtâŠsome hairsprays have different consistency (and ingredients) ie-extra hold hairspray is often thicker. Light hold hairspray is thinner. I wonder if it would make a difference for the effect your trying to achieve. You are a resin guru!! Thank you for working out the kinks for us
Thank you, you are right, I think I need to crack this one then move on to a stronger hold đ€ đ
SWEEEEEEETTT!!!!....love it!!! you are way too hard on yourself sometimes sir...lol..... you are such a gift to us all!!!!
Thanks so much đ
Great video â€. I wondered what would happen if you applied your sinker white with a small spray bottle.
I think it would just make a mess đ
Maybe try smaller drops in smaller pieces, take half a drop with your toothpick.
They look great Daniel. What would happen if you let the hairspray 'set' a bit????
Thank you, must play with timings soon đ
What about if you did another coat of spray between the colour and the sinker?
OMG, those ovals turned out so gorgeous! đ
So basically, how much you need to dilute the sinker depends on the depth of the mold but the more you need to dilute it, the more translucent it will be. Got it! đ«Ą
...Makes me wonder how those gorgeous ovals you made would look backed with some of that magnetic nail polish you use or some of the shiny nail powders and then backed in your usual black. đ€ Or maybe just gluing some silver leaf onto the back instead? Oh, I bet that would be so wow! đł
Thanks đ Yes, I think that would just show through quite nicely đ€©
@@daniel..cooper I think you need to fill all the bigger cabochons in your mold, hit them all with the hair spray, add the ink to them all and wait a bit before adding the sinker to give the ink time to move if it's going to. Part of the differences in how they look is probably due to the wait time. Also, I'm kind of curious about what would happen if you did a second light spray of hairspray in between the ink and the sinker. Would it have any effect at all? đ€
@ChibiChula yes, definitely need to explore the timings and a spray in-between đ
@@daniel..cooper I'll look forward to watching future experiments then! đ
those are gorgeous what are you making with these
Thanks, jewelry pieces đ
Daniel whatâs the best coulours to work with as I keep getting mudding
Some safe combo's are Red, yellow, blue. Yellow, blue and green. Red, orange, yellow. There are more but those are the best to begin with đ
Hey Daneil, these look gawjuss! Maaaaybe don't add the sinker white from the bottle? Use a toothpick so you're adding less? Regarding the inks dripping from the bottle, I transfer all mine into the needle tip bottles, it's a faff but you get way more control and no irritating drips where you don't want them! Great experiment! x
Thank you, yes, I have been telling myself to do this for years but still haven't đ
This control thing is molecular now, should we be worried đ€Ł
đđđ it's definitely going that way đ
will the ball bearings work with uv resin mixed with mica powder? mica powder does like to sink to the bottom of the bottle.
Hi, the viscocity could be an issue, I'm not sure it would work, a bath in warm water may work better and turn the bottle until mixed up again đ
â€â€â€
What if you put about a third of the uv resin, cure it and put the colours on that. I donât know if that would work but it should stop it sinking at least .
This isn't uv resin đ
