    Just remove the Bitlocker. The encryption only serves to slow things down, and make data recovery more difficult. Unless you are keeping sensitive documents on your ally then the Bitlocker will not help you.

      Yeah you CAN do that though I PERSONALLY will not recommend doing that unless you know about potential consequences when loosing the device. Or if it's stolen. :)

      Open up command prompt of powershell as an admin and enter to below to disable bitlocker. Bitlocker is pointless to have on your machine unless you have a password/fingerprint to unlock the device. Even then, someone can still access the SSD by bypassing your password pretty easily without taking anything out of the system. The only way BitLocker works is if the SSD is taken out of the machine and tried to be read by another device.

      @@Hubwood just a heads up, bitlocker isn't that secure and you can also buy a neat little TPM sniffer that can get you the recovery key for any device for a whopping 10$. You shouldn't put sensitive data on a device you travel with a lot, just disable the bitlocker 👍. There's also a handful of Linux distros if you're about keeping your data secure, I wouldn't recommend Windows.

    I have a Rog Ally Z1e, and I have a Rog XG Mobile RTX3080 from my Rog Flow X13 (2021) laptop. Watching your video, I realized that I shouldn’t update to the new version of Rog Ally X, since the current one works better and more stable than what you showed. Despite all this, I do not lose mobility. Because Rog XG Mobile is small enough to take with you. And powerful enough to play in ultra settings with good fps on an external ultrawide 34'' monitor with a resolution of 3440x1440p (21:9).

    - use the legion go power cord in one usb c plug, but not my usual power supply setup from a thunderbolt hub

    Quite good video and good conclusion. Only thing I would have liked was the comparison to the RTX4070 in desktop to show the CPU and the bandwith as a bottleneck.
    It really really really depends on the game. Games like Apex Legends want to utilize the CPU. Therefore an eGPU can really be a bottleneck. Other titles are using more of the GPU. And it depends on the resolution. The higher the resolution the higher the gpu utilization.
    Was thinking of switching to the ally x as only pc with epgu but than I would have to lower my resolution in most my games from 1440p to 1080p for same FPS. I am really looking forward to Thunderbolt 5. With TB5 there will be eonugh bandwith for a reasonable egpu solution beyond 1080p

    • @Confector69
      @Confector69 Před měsícem +2

      well you can connect it to a tb5 egpu in the future. with the price of the 3080 XGM (which is a mobile gpu and not a desktop gpu) for 1000€ I can buy a egpu enclosure + either a 3080 for 500€ or a 3090 for like 800€. (just scrolled through the market quick). The thunderbolt way is simply better and cheaper. the XGM gpus have no resale value, because they are only used for ASUS hardware.
      edit: Another thing. you can lookup benchmarks and you will see that thunderbolt delivers more fps in 4k than XGM... since with a egpu its not so mobile anyway, connecting it to a 4k tv makes sense and thus its better to have thunderbolt. Thats actually THE reason why I havent bought the Z1E, because of this useless custom ASUS egpu slot... No way I am paying 1000-3000€ for a notebook GPU, while there are way cheaper options if they were taking the thunderbolt option.

      @@Confector69 i see. Since you do not own z1e then you do not have enough experience on it. And probably a handheld is not for you. Good thing that you have more space where you can build a desktop cheaper than handheld + egpu. Enjoy on your setup and people with limited space will enjoy their handheld + egpu. TB4 devices can get a bandwidth on TB5 egpu is just your imagination. They have different bandwidth. You still need to buy an expensive TB5 device to match its bandwidth.

    • @Confector69
      @Confector69 Před měsícem +1

      @@YelNatSttocS you are partly correct. The host end has still lower bandwidth. You will still get a increase in performance though when connecting a tb5 enclosure to a tb3 device. Bandwidth is not everything. Another important factor is latency. So you will see improvement.
      Lets take a example here. A friend of mine has still old copper cable on his property, but the rest of the way up to the provider is glass fibre, he still gets glass fibre internet speed altough he has no glass fibre on his property. Kinda a logical thing right, since the most of the way the data is traveling on a faster route. So for the tb way a lower perf drop is expected when using tb5 egpu instead of tb3 egpu on that tb handheld. You could buy a tb5 notebook for 3k, but is it worth the 3% performance difference? Idk.

At lower resolutions these tb protocols will get used much more often and they will add these delays into the renderpipeline that will cause into a larger performance drop.
