Good video Iris! I'm so happy you're shedding a different light on the topic "find your passion": it can be different things, doesn't have to be one. Most important is that it interests and motivates you. I'm also happy you pointed out that 1 perfect passion is not for everyone, in fact it is only true for a small group of people. I’m 54 this year. I’ve pursued various hobbies/passions/careers and fortunately I was successful in most of them. However, it doesn’t take long to start thinking/feeling like something was missing or how what I was currently doing was simply missing the mark for me. I’ve recently concluded that it isn’t necessarily“what” I am doing..it is “how” I’m doing it! I’ve learned I can feel fulfilled in what I’m currently doing by adapting my mindset and making some modifications that align with my current personal goals and aspirations. I feel more fulfilled even though I’m doing the same thing I’ve been doing. Hope this helps someone. Thank you Iris! You make amazing content! 💛💛💛
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Like yourself, I’ll be 54 years old this year, and have been working in Finance sine 1987. Qualified, Certified Accountant. But by time, I am getting less and less satisfaction. Work is going crazy, they have taken all the fun out. But nearly impossible to change the career. Every morning I tell myself “I’m going to be a better man today”, it keeps me going. I search for different ways to do work in order to make it more exciting. My passion is for mechanical stuff, but I keep that as a pastime. Cheers.
@@rainbow2710 Thank you for sharing, Jon. I was in mortgage banking for 20 years. After 2008, regulations made it impossible to help people and feel like I was doing any good in the world. I always told my husband it was like going to a fight with my arms and legs tied behind me…lol. I buckled down, paid off all our debts so I could do something else that paid less. Sometimes there’s no getting around the fact that you need to find a way out so save yourself. Don’t stay in misery just because it’s all you know or others expect it of you. Live simply and be open to other opportunities. Get training if needed to help you bridge to your next chapter and don’t forget that sometimes a hobby/personal skills can turn into a satisfying little business! Blessings!

I don't know at what time you plan to retire, but if it's 5-10+ years from now, then why not try to make the "nearly impossible" possible? As Taz beautifully said: "Don’t stay in misery just because it’s all you know or others expect it of you. Live simply and be open to other opportunities. Having passion makes you feel alive. I once had it and now it is lost. I feel like a shell of a person. Its like someone died but the someone was me.

That’s why I’ve learned that skills will always be there, passions will come and go as you grow- better to train/learn things you know you’ll have fun being skilled at and then work in the field of your current passion- and you can move careers that way
I wouldn’t say I feel like a failure. It’s just that I desire to figure out what is it I desire to do instead of working in corporate the rest of my life.
I envy people who know what they want to do with their lives. I went to school to be a teacher which took awhile as i worked 3 jobs along the way. Then i got there...I enjoyed sped but workload was crazy unintentionally got a job in regular education and its more frustrating. I don't know what I should be doing.
Start by asking basic questions like, do I like technology or do I like animals or food. Look up careers related to for example animals, sift through the career choices and figure out which one suits your needs and that will be able to make you happy but the pay is good. Hope this helps 😊❤
Literally explained exactly me in the beginning. I feel like such a failure because i havent been abke to find my oassion and im constantly in and out of jobs. I have had so many jobs in the oast few years and just cant find what i feek is right for me.
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my CZcams channel 5 months ago about self development. Now I have 319 subs and almost > 100 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I couldn’t have learned without getting started in the 1st place.

I have many plans to make it grow not because of fame or any external rewards but the inspiration I can give to someone who can barely get out of bed in the morning, suffering from depression, or feels like there is no hope anymore. I can totally relate to those situations because I’ve been there and turned my life around.
Every subscriber is not just a number but a human-being who made a conscious effort to hit that subscribe button for a reason. A reason to learn from my stories, life lessons, progress, setbacks, mistakes, and so on.

I think I’m in step 3. The messy bit, trying things and not finding what works effectively for money, or what I can tolerate making into a job. A hobby is different to a job. Making a hobby into work can be heartbreaking!

It’s hard because the way marketing is now is all about ‘having a passion’. On social media etc. In graphic design, all the people who did lower grade graphic design feel like they can’t ‘talk’ about what they do on social media etc, because they aren’t ‘passionate’ about it. Now, we can’t have a business because we can’t market it because we don’t want to bang on about it on social media - argh!

Thanks for this video! I'm a teen and I'm lost and have no idea what to do with my life and what career to pursue and i think a bunch of teens can relate. I've been trying various hobbies recently and so far it seems like cooking is so fun and that's something i would do every day passionately, but I'm still not sure
Job and work are 2 different things. A job pays the bills, whereas work is always something that is naturally within you. What is one thing that you are renowned for and that people always comes to you for. that's your Work/calling.
what if nobody comes to me for anything? and what if I don't know what is naturally within me
@andriotis09 then you will have to discover this. Try some things, hobbies, find problems to solve.
@@Helen_590 well my hobbies would photography for example but unfortunately photography is not a lucrative career to have especially when you have lots of bills and rent to pay, and its just better off left as a hobby. I just wish I knew what I would be good at in practical sense not passion or the arts

This has been the most helpful video on this topic I've ever watched. I don't know that I can do much with the info (no career to switch from and little to no experience - I've been ill for 13 years). But it's still a subject I come back to when I feel hopeless, and this makes more sense than I've ever heard. I wish I could have heard this in university or in my early twenties. Thank you!
I was in the I don't know my passions camp and when I turned 24 I had a bad break up and looked at my life and decided I needed a change. I never found my passion. I looked at what I liked and what I thought a good job would have and then looked at the jobs that fit those criteria. I chose a passion. I said I am going to make this my skill. My craft. My life. I do not regret it
actually, I’ve already done all these kind of things like to do my list of my interests,my research and ask to people however everything from my list, every single likely future career is driving me crazy due to it’s out of my capacity, I’m not able to do that because it’s i don’t have enough knowledge yet I have this strong desir to pursue it. you need to have confidence in yourself. thank you for your videos 😊
Hi Iris, thank you so much for sharing your tips. All feelings of recognition when you spoke of the group of people with multiple interests! That is so me! I like drawing, painting, writing, am interested in programming, interested in antropology and filosophy, like to build and craft. But with everything I feel like a failure. I am no where as good as the people who show their succes stories on social media. When I see stories, videos or photos I feel like I am no good and should spend more them on my hobbies to improve. But there is so much I want to do. Same career wise, I have had several jobs and now work as an officemanager (less flashy than it sounds 😉) and do all sorts of tasks, I am quick, understand computer programs quickly, work structured, am good at planning and monitoring. But unfortnately my career is 'cursed' with never being asked for a step up. I keep muddling in the undergrounds. And really, I have no ambition to be a manager or something like that, but I want to have tasks that really suit me, there is more to me than what my job asks of me now. So thanks for your tips.

The change of perspective really is the most prudent thing to do. And the way you phrased it really is motivating, for me anyways.
I get why people are suckers for success stories, be it a business or a carreer, but I am always much more interested in the figuratively speaking "mountain of corpses" left under the throne on the peak of their success story.
This really hit home for me. The one thing I'm really passionate about is learning new things. That could be about thing's I already love doing, something about the culture of another country, or something completely random. This makes it difficult to find a job in the normal fashion because everyone learns all the time no matter what job you have.
Awesome ideas for finding your dream career! If after doing these steps, you realize that you have a love of photos, helping people, and preserving/sharing memories, you may want to consider becoming a professional photo manager. It's a growing field with a huge demand and the flexibility to make it your own.

My career is chronic homelessness and uselessness...feeling lost is the status quo. If only I had something to blame like drugs. I can't fix fundamental problems in society that are beyond my control.

I have spent years working in fitness industry.I enjoyed the work but didint enjoy coperate world , then changed the industry again enjoying the job but not being micromanaged at work

The thing that helped me was, listening to that little voice that told me "we need to do that." For me I'm very practical, and that can be a detriment at times, because it makes you do risk assessment over every big choice, and I stayed with the "safe" choice a lot. I finally listened to that voice that was nudging me, and I took the leap at 26, dropped my salary job, and went towards trade work. I've been more motivated and enjoyed my work way more.

Very nice video, and I totally agree with the points mentioned. I should also mention that not only do you not NEED to find that 1 thing you are passionate about, it can also be rather detrimental to your personal development, as you would not expose yourself to other things, and you may end up resenting the passion after you get the job in that field. For example, you could be passionate for ice cream, but being a QA in an Ice Cream factory would drive you insane and you will end up hating it!
Also, in terms of finding meaning in work, there is a possibility that you are in the right career but you simply just don't know it yet and all you need is to change the environment, where you could contribute more and/or to different things. So far, for me personally, my self-discovery journey has been about realising that what I do is right, rather than sailing seas, climbing mountains and crossing desserts to find other careers.
These are my thoughts, but I'd like to reiterate that I loved your video!

My problem has never been pursuing my interests, it’s always been sticking with them. Every thing I’ve ever attempted as soon as things got hard I gave up. I’ve played music, I’ve attempted content creation, I’ve attempted going to college and never made it passed the admissions process. I don’t think lost quite covers where I am in my life/career
I am a pre med student,I came into this field just because I thought I would be able to achieve it just because I get good grades..But I was completely wrong.I have been feeling so down and demotivated lately and I do not like where I am..I want to change it so bad but everyone keeps saying its too late..
I want to do something meaningful that will bring me joy as well as financial freedom.I know how to work hard but I want to put my work into something that will be recognized and appreciated.I hope that everything gets better for me as well as for everyone going through the same chaos.
If you don’t enjoy it as a pre med, you won’t enjoy med school either. I dropped out of PA school, it was brutal and I had no passion for it. Was only in it because of family pressure
I found my passion and was lucky enough to do it for many years. I ended up making some poor life choices based on not being paid what I’m worth and now it’s been impossible to get that job back 😔 It’s a job that people don’t just give up unless you have to. That was 5 years ago. I’m so lost.
This video sounds like a good template for change. I just turned 56 in November and have fought age discrimination in the workplace since I turned 50. I'm unemployed at the moment and I'm in that lost place. I've had a love for the history of baseball and an interest in vintage baseball memorabilia. Hmm, my problem is it’s hard for me to find a job that doesn’t absolutely drain me (anything healthcare or customer service related), even though I’ve been really good at interacting with customers and patients
But on the other hand, data analytics is something that I’m just really bad at learning and I fall behind so quickly, so most desk jobs don’t work for me
And…. It feels like most jobs require either constant (with little or zero breathing space) interactions with clients/customers/patients, or constant math and data and analytics
So… idk what to do 🙃
Failure and success are subjective when dealing with your own achievements, There are people who to others would appear to have achieved a lot, but they don't feel that way, they still feel like they're a failure or haven't achieved enough. Life isn't a competition, despite social expectations or media manipulation. I understand what you're getting at in regards to "feeling" this way, we all have for sure, but it's in some part due to our conditioning and environment which puts this pressure on a person.

The people (usually only child) that found their thing early on had parents aiding them the whole way.. I didn’t get any of that and had to bushwhack to find what I like.

Lost in career, eh? I know that feeling. My boss called me a failure when she was hypnotized onstage. Said it was ridiculous that I graduated from college in 2021 and still haven't gotten my career. She said catering--or any college dining services--might be best for me. She doesn't believe in my skills or brains. She even used me as an example in her philosophy about *hard-work-not-equaling-intelligence-or-nobility.*
I get what your saying. But nowadays these jobs that could suit the interests in mind tend to need extra qualifications so if you dont stretch the truth youll never get in. Lifes really tough especially when your older and doing this
I have tried looking for the books ppl have recommended that they have helped them but they’re never available at my library. I can’t afford them and I also can’t be waiting for months. I’ve been on the waiting list for three months so far for a certain book.

Great video but the interruptions to talk about other videos were super annoying. Just as I was starting to get invested and reflect - boom “here is another video”
My problem is that the things im interested in and like, art for example, is a verh competitive and low paying industry now. Unless you are well established. And i like sfience and medical stuff. But i. Not good with mb social skills and have a bad back. So nursing and x ray tech is out of the picture. I have interests and passions. But j cant do them...
What about art professor? Those classes were always small in my college with like minded students. Plus you don’t have to deal with bad behavior just tell them to leave your class lol

My problem is that I have that one thing that I'm passionate about, but it doesn't pay the bills and I would have to be exceptionally good at it (and lucky) to make a living off of it alone. That thing for me is storywriting.
None of my hobbies and passions are profitable , nor can they translate to a job. They involve relaxing and fun activities that aren't money making 😅. Having multi-interests though does mean I've jumped careers multiple times. I truly misunderstoond protfolio careers advice by Squiggly Careers and tried different careers out. The thing is I want to do , the question is it attainnable without another degree or drivers license?

I like my job but I see that AI will demolish the industry I work in so I need to find something new that will outlast AI 😊 so I am looking for ways to change careers mid_life. Debating going back to school which might be crazy or might be great all depends on money in the end.
I am in college two months now gor dental assisting. I have been feeling down lately with my career choice. The deeper I get into the course the more depressed I become. Sometimes I feel Instant sadness in class while reviewing information that I am learning. I know I can do it because I am smart, but that feeling of "is this right for me" comes up every so often. I quit my job it was a bad company even though that i like the job itselfs it was fun … dealing with different kinds of nationalities and people but even though it was so much less than my degree , low salary bad community talks and it was so stressful because they don’t want to be with them … after that job I jumped into another position at school and it was well paid
I couldn’t stand for more than 1 month i hate schools .. I didn’t find myself there … now i am 28 jobless and looking for the suitable chance.

I think a good bit of it is that people try to have *work* be everything. Significance, money, work-life balance, fun, and social life. But there aren’t a whole lot of jobs that can actually do that. And worse trying to turn something you like doing into a job often just makes it less fun and interesting, and burns you out on it. I like writing, but turning it into a job isn’t what I actually want, mostly from watching the burnouts flog themselves into writing X words, stressing about whether it’s something they can sell, marketing, spending hundreds or thousands on courses, editing, book covers, and then spending hours on social media selling the book. I don’t need a second job, I don’t want to lose the fun of telling a story I actually want to tell and having people actually read it, even if it’s only a few people.
I think the best answer for most people is find a job that gets you the lifestyle you want and let your passions be hobbies unless you really and truly aren’t going to be happy if you aren’t paid to do them.
Already did a whole process. A year of coaching and blogging and “design strategist” turns out to be an ideal thing for me. Meanwhile I’m getting older. When that field started it was based on people *exactly* like me, but now it’s a “masters degree” which (laughably) is supposed to instill 20 years of life experience into any 24 year old who wants to work with pretty colored post-it notes every day. 🙄 And nobody, now, will interview you without one. Especially when you’re not 28 anymore. Infuriating. Every year that passes, I get farther from what I could get to do (and feel far less miserable) for a living, instead of closer. Oh, and they can pay a 28 year old garbage $ to do the job, instead of paying a 50 year old commensurate money for doing a better job.
The truth is that all of this is clear as it is. These tips, unfortunately, are absolutely useless for so many people.
