Is the HUMMER EV really the World's Most Powerful Electric Truck? - Off Roading!

- HUMMER has a thing for always being the biggest baddest truck on the planet... and they didnt hold back at all when designing their new electric supertruck. Come for a ride with us through the prickly cactus filled Arizona desert as we test the quad motor, 1000 horse power batterie filled monstrosity that is GMC's new masterpiece. Huge thanks to GMC for having us out to drive their new Hummer EV. I was not compensated for this video, nor did GMC have any review privilege's over this video.

I realize it’s dumb but the one thing I really appreciate about the new Hummer EV’s is that for the first time in history they actually *hum* 🤫

Nice pun
It’s not dumb at all😂😂😂😂😂

Congrats you deserve it Zac
yaaaa forgot zac the farmer 😁
This is by no means any kind of stress test. This is marketing. GM wouldn't have taken him and a dozen other people from the media to this location if they didn't already test the truck there and believe it would show it off well.
@@Ice_Berg yeah but they took him
The dude who bends phones so I'm just happy he's grown so much since I saw him
People who complain about this Hummer being high priced at $110k haven't seen the used (diesel) prices. Fifteen to twenty-year-old used Hummers are going for $70k - $150k and up. H1 Alphas (2006) start at $200k and can reach $350k. When you factor the electric motor and all the new amenities, this price doesn't seem nearly so high.
It will be interesting to compare the Hummer EV to the cybertruck when it comes out. I have a feeling the HEV will look a bit less appealing price wise.
Doesn't matter if it's expensive or not. You're getting this truck in 3 years if you order now...
@@SquintyGears that goes for either truck honestly

Yeah, the fully loaded Hummer Wagon, in 2000, was a little over $100k new, and the EV has a lot more features (though it looks like the EV *doesn't* have CTIS...)
You should do a comparison one day between your custom hummer ev, and the official one.

Beat me to it. I was gonna suggest the same thing.
Absolutely
That's a very good point
You have to durability test both
When Jerry showed tow mode at 10:39, in the video on the dash, the hummer was towing the first stage of the Saturn V rocket. For those who don't know, the Saturn V was the rocket that took Americans to the moon. It was not a spaceship, it was just the launch vehicle that put the Apollo spacecraft on a trajectory toward the moon.
Did it really, or was that FAKE NEWS??? /s

Lot of shit to break down and make this car worthless in a few years.
5:01 fun fact about hail: winds of 250 mph are needed up in the clouds to form and hold the hail.
Fun fact no. 2: You should have a truckers driving licence in Europe to drive the new Hummer EV, because of its weight.
About his video, beast mode activated to drive such thing! Very impressive! Both the vehicle, the tech installed and the price tag! Thank you for sharing!
In the states, you only need a CDL (Commercial Driver License, i.e. "trucker license") for vehicles 26,000 lbs and over. You will find that most box trucks are at 25,995lbs to squeeze in just under that requirement.

These Volt-Dolts don't have the brain capacity to realize they can't carry extra electrical-juice and if they run out electrical juice out in the wilderness, they're screwed. Jerry did say in the beginning of the video that the humvee is the world's most powerful electric vehicle at the moment, when in fact, the Rimac Nevara has about twice the power with 1914 hp. The Tesla Model S Plaid is not that bad as well, with 1020 hp.

This would be an amazing car drive through the bush here in South Africa, but the infrastructure for EVs is just non-existent. Also, South Africa is one of the few countries that, instead of subsidising EVs, they charge a 40% tax on EVs. There is one dealer that will sell you an Tesla Model 3 for around R2,100,000 which is roughly $140,000, also 2.5x that of the US.
Our Government is a joke for that EV tax
Depending on which part of South Africa, that price tag could also include a car jacking and possibly a homicide as a bonus.
Ouch.

There are more options for the jet set club to have an exclusive car
I'm glad youre reviewing this and not just Dan. He's been on repeat mode for the past 3 years about his tesla and honestly I wish his son was running the channel. Lincoln is much more interesting on camera.

The problem with digital rear-view mirrors is that for normal mirrors, you don't need to focus your eyes close (because of the way light works you will be focusing your eyes to the distance the actual object is at). You need to refocus from far (front road) to close (digital mirror) to far (road) every single time you try to look rearward, putting more stress on your eyeballs.
It’s crazy that over the past 10 years, my new favorite cars have become electric. I remember when the first of them come out in Australia (Toyota Prius) and I just laughed and said I’ll never drive one. Now I’d do anything to get my hands on one.
having a Hummer H3....in Europe, with the gas prices exploding here, would love to turn it into an electric powered one, but guess it would cost a fortune to rebuild, especially cause I ain´t a handyman myself, and parts are not easy either to get by here, but could be cool. About the new Hummer EV??? Just WOW! Would love to own one of these, but with the price tag already sky high in the US.....don´t even wanna think of the price here in Europe after crazy ass duty/Import taxes and VAT! 🤯Thanks as always J for bringing up another great vid! 🙌🏻💪🏻
Zack! Can’t wait to see your hummer on the roads around town!
They had this same rear wheel articulation back with the 2000-2004 GMC Denali Trucks, remember I wanted one!
Nice one to go picking up a hot cross bun at the bakery in the morning. ;-)
I had to add 1.190 eurobucks for the bigger integrated charger in the opel corsa-e so it can now charge at
3 phase AC / 11kW
instead of standard
1 phase AC / 7.4kW (charging station)
It can charge at 1.8kW on a household plug (230V-16A socket) so it's really intended to not draw too much current and might even work ok on a 120V socket..
I will probably also get the portable "universal charger" for 730 bucks because it is a one-for-all and will also work on 3phase/16A CEE which can be easily installed
and doesnt need a "smart" charger or wallbox.
The car has a 50kWh battery pack and a usable range of around 200miles with that. (high speed = bad)
All in all the corsa-e with a nice options package comes in at around 36k to 38k euros (all in package) which comes down to around 27k after subsidies (-9.750€).
You can even sell your "unused" CO2 emissions for about 300 bucks a year.
I really hope for good interior quality (and i mean robust, not fancy) and getting rid of those glossy surfaces and touchscreens..
Just watched the Sarah -n- Tuned video of the convoy, always neat to see other videos of an event.
I still like your idea of converting an existing platform to electric. Plenty of vehicles that could be saved and reduced the amount of materials and resources needed for new vehicles.
That banana for scale is a straight out of 9Gag move!

Would be interesting. 😍
Great review!
I would love to see you become the go to guy for electric vehicle reviews!
Plural form of Cactus is Cacti. It's also funny that most reviewers don't get the whole theme of the vehicle. GM worked with Boeing to create the first Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) back in the 60s. It was an all electric vehicle and they are celebrating that heritage with all the Apollo / Lunar mission references in the new Hummer EV. Like the sea of tranquility in the speaker grills , astronaut foot print in the footwell and the picture of the Saturn v rocket in towing mode. Pretty neat and I think they should include a little video demo of some sort for their audience that are either too young or completely distracted by the beastly spects of this truck.
One thing for sure, your custom Hummer EV look tougher than the official one. But we do need further comparison between both of them in battery life per charge aspect and how it's power delivered.
Overall price tag would be awesome too, I'm actually curious of how much the custom Hummer EV cost you (of course excluded installing services cost)
1980s land rover > some gay EV
@@girlsdrinkfeck People still use the word gay as an insult? Yikes.
Yes.
I did a napkin maths to estimate the cost some time ago and I think I had a price tag of something over 50k.
The engine alone is worth like 20k
A full testa battery pack, even if used, is over 20k too.
His BMS and motor controller are both top of the line at, I think, 2k each.
Ev conversions aren't cheap, and jerry basically used the most expensive components on the market.

Enjoying that gasket on that Rover engine of yours? Imao
Let me give it to this guy his ability to communicate through all this so effectively is impressive with the information about the vehicle
Hey about the electric wheelchair tires. I used to race motocross years ago and they made a tire called a Super Digger, it had treads all the way to the edge of the rim so you could get traction even laying the bike down on it’s side. You are better off having the motorcycle shop mount the tire, they are hard to get on a rim with hand tools. You need a tire with grips on the outer and inner edge to pull in the mud and sand. I have seen Buckshot Mudder tires completely slick with worn out center tread but the outside lugs allowed the tire to pull the truck through mud holes and ruts that log skidders had made. Hope this idea helps.
Be interesting to see the long term reliablity of this Hummer. Good video. 👍
No engine/transmission problems to go wrong. The worst problem would be the battery packs.

Not spending much more time charging than filling up, but only getting 1/3rd of the range of a small SUV (like a Honda Pilot), or 1/4 the range of something like a Suburban. When you compare time to recharge/refuel with obtained range - EV still takes much longer to achieve a full range charge than an gas engine vehicle. Additionally, if you run out of gas, you can return to your vehicle with a gas can to extend your range to a pump - where an EV must be towed.....or be attached to a generator (hahahahaha).
I like your videos - don't get me wrong. EV is a luxury toy for people who have the time to play with them. I'm planning on building one myself, a hybrid actually, with a focus on efficiency at the expense of every possible comfort.
I’d be concerned about road damage from this vehicle considering it weighs 9,000lbs. Certain roads in my area won’t let you travel them if they’re above 3 tons.
If there is one thing I like about the legacy manufacturers is that... They announce something a year off and a year later, we actually get the product. The other new companies, even if they have money, they still want your money before they make the thing. Basically interest free loans
The brotherhood between Dan and Jerry is amazing
That is one impressive convoy! 1000HP and 11.5K lb.-ft of torque is mind boggling to say the least! I'm enjoying your EV reviews! I can't wait to run into your Hummer EV here in Utah!
11.5K lb-ft is wheel torque so that says absolutely nothing. 1000 hp is a lot but the Model S plaid has that too and is way lighter
@Carl Gunderson I don't mean to compare it directly to a plaid, but I'm talking about the motors. 1000 hp is a lot, but in the EV world it also kind of isn't. And again, the torque number isn't saying anything. And the plaid motor comparison is fair as the Cybertruck will use the same motors
@Carl Gunderson It's a lot obviously but what I meant is that achieving 1000hp in an EV is way easier and more common than in iCE vehicles. You can simply add a motor. Price is not that relevant for this, these are high margin vehicles anyways
I've never understood the idea of a luxury or high tech offroader. It's a cool truck but i just don't see that much of a market for it. The problem isn't that it's electric, it's that it's too expensive and too complicated. To each their own i guess.
yeah, if I'm going to spend 100k on an off-road car I rather just modify a existing car and have something wayyy cooler and more capable than this. Its going to turn out like the g wagon, crazy expensive yet cabable off road but will only ever see fresh paved roads.
Americans buy trucks but only use the bed twice a year and the off-roading capabilities every once in a while to go through the potholes in the asphalt.
@@randomjoao That's true of some Americans but i assure you that many use the bed or towing ability often if not daily. The offroad ability for many people is for snow or muddy job sites/farm feilds.
Two words: Mercedes G Wagon
@Carl Gunderson Firstly Tesla wasn't even mentioned. Secondly, it's too expensive (in my opinion) to offroad. Meaning i wouldn't want to beat it up. And if you're rich and just don't care about the price, you could buy a real offroader that's more capable. Look, I'm not hating on it or saying you shouldn't buy one, just that i don't understand the appeal personally.
Looks neat, never thought I'd say it about a Hummer. I wonder how much stress it'll put on the roads though.
That's not the worst part. All EV-ORV's are the dumbest ideas ever!! Like with the Rivian, what are they going to do when they're 100-150miles into an off-road excursion and run out of juice? You know the range on these things towing, get reduced from 300miles to below 60miles, so off-road your range will most likely be less than 150mi. Us regular I.C.E. Off-Roaders always carry more than enough extra fuel in Jerry-Cans or those 50-100gal Transfer Tank-Toolbox combos. With EV's you can't carry spare electricity and no one out there can give them any.
The Volt-Dolts better build themselves some windmills and only camp out on windy Bluffs or draw straws to see whom in their lil party with be cannibalized. 😆😂🤣
@@MAGGOT_VOMIT nobody's saying electric vehicles are perfect. But gas is getting more expensive and isn't going to last forever. We are quickly making progress with EV's so I don't know what else you want. Obviously this type of vehicle isn't very practical for an average joe, more of a showcase of where we're at with the technology.
@Daniel Vipin That's hoping the computer accepts it as a legit charging source. Coming from a generator, the voltage will be very "dirty". The generator would need to be large enough to handle continuous load from charging it. It would need quite a lot of Gasoline to power it and a substantial wait-time to charge it, but it would be better than nothing. I suggested that in another vid a while back and the response was as if I was killin' kittens. {0.o} 😆😂🤣
@@kdxkyle What I want is simple. I want people to start using their heads and not get themselves into serious trouble off-road in these wannabe ORV's, because they weren't warned by these hype vids.
If you think gasoline is going bye-bye, you're sadly mistaken. You think there's more Lithium deposits than oil deposits?? At least 2 of the largest Lithium mines in Australia have already been depleted by the Chinese Mining companies leasing them. Since the electronics industry makes lots more money per ton of Lithium needed to power phones and other devices, if more Lithium mines become depleted there will be a ban worldwide on all EV manufacturers from using Lithium cells. Then what are ya gonna do?
I agree, about the rear view digital mirror. The only way to fix it, is with head/eye tracking & a cropped image.
WOW great camera work and LUT.

just like the fast charging of phones, two separate battery packs 🤔
Well, really no need to necessarily have separate packs, but just more cells that can take it. So if you have 200 kWh worth of cells, and you can charge each cell with a constant current, it is twice more than with 100 kWh worth of cells. In how many ever packs they are.
I am a fan of the Rivian style truck, although I don't think it's the future because I don't know the future, there could be hydrogen powered vehicles or other modes of powering vehicles, but for right now in 2022, I think my preference still lies in an engine, I just like the sound and the roar of the engine, but if I could afford to, I would definitely test my preference and go for the Rivian Truck. Honest question, i am far from an expert: Isn't the heavy weight a huge obstacle when it comes to offroading? Especially in loose sand and wet soil? I remember that in Matt's Offroad Recovery channel, usually lighter vehicles are used to rescue heavier ones? If you want to make an environment friendly offroad vehicle, wouldn't a plugin-hybrid with a small battery make more sense? Or are there more factors in play here that i do not know?
Yes weight is a major factor in offroad capabilities. Generally the lighter the better.

As it is at current state, one need a special drivers license for vehicles above 3.500kg (7.700 lbs). Basically one have to register them as a lorry or semi, and be limited to two seats only.
I want to upgrade my midlife crisis from a Dodge RAM to a EV Hummer! :D
Silly. Buy a Rivian or a Ford F150 if you have to. This thing is just silly.
There is no limited on seats. There is many trucks with 4 or more seats.
@@wolfgangpreier9160 it's his choice if he likes it. Than let him buy it.
@@orangecookie3132 No one is saying that he couldn't buy it. We're allowed to make silly choices if we want! Lol
@@orangecookie3132 Oh i will not stand in his way of buying a ridiculous car. If he wants to sit in a real life comical monster i will be the last one stopping him. I will cheer him on. And laugh about him. And will not take him serious. If thats his wish he can have it. But please do not take this mosntrosity for real. Its just as real as the bat mobile.
5:42 there is a tab under the mirror that you pull and it turns it into a normal rear view mirror. it was right infront of you
This guy is tech guy not a car guy
I make those rear view mirrors for a living, it broke my heart to hear that you didn't like the digital aspect of it. Much respect though, haven't really seen them in action in a car myself!
He Zack, this hummer may be cool, but we want to see the cooler one. You know what I mean😁
Well played😂 but I am interested too
I can still see Rivian and Ford doing better, but I also see where the Hummer EV can fit in. I'm wondering with the newer battery packs coming to market and Dodge, Toyota and other car manufacturers what will be created/added. Hopefully at a nice price as well.
You're literally the American guy stereotype, breaking things and driving trucks! I love it haha
I would love to see a side by side comparison with your DIY HummerEV on the trails.
Yeah, it may be expensive at first but that's just the start, eventuallly the prices are gonna get lower and closer to their gas counterparts. The goal for the electric cars are to slowly get their prices lower and consedering how these cars may require less maintenance than a gas car even if they are slightly more expensive than those, the price on the long run will be worth it. I'm looking forward for electric cars and hope that the transition is smooth for the consumer market.
Can u charge the truck with solar panel and drive at the same time? Just curious. And if it is possible how long would it take to change fully from solar panel?
Assuming you would put 500W panel on the top, even a clear beautiful Arizona day of 8 hours of “good” sun gives you 4 kWh of energy harvested from the sun. You would need 50 good days to top off a 200 kWh pack. That’s why you don’t see solar panels on EVs. At best, with panels, you get one or two miles of charge a day for a car/truck this size.
@@azpcox yeah makes sense from a commercial stand point not to include it. not really helping much. But could be useful if u need little bit of juice to reach the chargeing station
Sadly, mobile solar panels on vehicles are still in its infancy and not a source of reliable consistent rate of charge. As the tech evolves, we'll likely see this come to fruition, but for now it's better to put solar panels on homes or charge stations where one can store that energy build up in batteries.
@@harishvora1741 I disagree, it actually could be a nice marketable feature. About 1kW of panels fits on a car and assuming 6 hours of strong sun per day would provide enough energy for the average EV to travel around 19 miles or 30km.
Placing those ominous clouds in the video is a nice touch.
Love the look of the truck !
But the model s plaid and model x plaid have 1020hp. Wouldn’t they be the most powerful?!
not by sheer power, id like to see the s or x tow 7000 pounds, or go offroading 😂😂
@@lukelegg9915 there is power and torque. They have actually a very similar amount of torque and power, but the Teslas have more power and the hummers have more torque. I’ve never heard anyone say that power is defined by torque so it would be defined by horsepower
@@JG-oc9gc thing is, model s has only 20 more hp, and weighs just under 5k pounds, 0-60 in 2 seconds
whereas the hummer has 20 less hp, and more torque, weighs just shy of 10k pounds, and can still do 0-60 in 3 seconds, so tell me which one is more powerful
@@JG-oc9gc power is an all encompassing term. It has other meanings.
"That was a powerful speech."
"That is a powerful computer."
The Hummer is far more powerful than a Tesla, all things considered.
@@lukelegg9915 people usually define power as horsepower. Not torque, towing capacity, or anything else.
Those digital mirrors are all bad. With a normal mirror you still have 3d visions as your eyes get slightly different pictures. With a screen both your eyes get the exact same picture so no 3d vision. So its just not doing the job of a mirror.
"Cactuses" gets the job done, but the correct form for plural is "cacti"
Cybertruck "hold ma beer"😂
This was obviously I paid advertisement by hummer, but I would like to see how off-roading affects electric trucks. Other tests I've seen with just electric vehicles has killed batteries pretty fast and I wonder if these new electric trucks are the same?
A 5 ton? What for? Think Matt from Matts Recovery can get him out if he gets stuck or breaks a axle? Or Casey?
'Obviously' a paid ad? Zac's reviews are normally positive and honest, which is how I believe this was also.
@@brettdonovan i age that he is very honest about things and that's why I subscribe. I say obviously because this is a preplanned route in a convoy of other people testing the same vehicle. Had they loaned it out to him to do his own testing I would feel differently.
