Fight between Catholics and Protestants mostly happened because rulers from this time needed some justification to make big scale war. On Protestant side - North German Dukes wanted money from church lands inside their realms but they couldn't just take as Catholic and wanted some decentralization in HRE because Habsburgs lands and power were big as hell, Sweden wanted to become great power in whole North Europe not only in Baltic region and if they would win vs Austria they could become one. Catholic side - Habsburgs wanted to maintain as a leader of the Europe and probably strengthen their position as emperor of hre. All they fought for was money or politic power, none of the leaders cared about Gods will.

Well sure but the leaders are a small percentage of the movement and what it identifies as, the reason the protestant reformation is so complex is not inherently because the issues with the catholic church were so niche and incomprehensible, but entirely because there was never one revolution. "Protestant" is a catch-all term that is widely reaching it encompasses groups that absolutely despise each other. The two most common examples (and actual founders of some of the most popular forms of "protestant" thought in the time) are John Calvin and Martin Luther, both men who were very bright and were simply dissatisfied with the theological consensus in their times, there was no desire for conquest and extreme power. Martin Luther had very little influence in sects outside of Lutheran. These religions were endorsed by HRE dukes, princes, and kings.
I think it's somewhat historically irresponsible to ignore the real issues that resided within the Catholic Church at the time, and then instead remove all context and force it into this narrow-minded pessimistic point of view.

I’ve been observing the history of religion myself recently and I think most people especially non religious people have a warped sense of why religion exist and ultimately what it actually tries to teach.
First I will say I am a Christian(formally agnostic)so there’s not to much confusion. Religion is made for the individual. To say Christianity itself was made to rule the weak would be absurd as there was already Greco-Roman Paganism that was made for just that. While relearning Christianity I learned that it’s not just about being a good person or even going to heaven. It’s about strengthening the harmony of humanity.
The idea of religion that we get today mainly comes from poorly researched historical movies that usually makes the majority look bad to bring up the minority. Religious wars where astronomically rare and even the ones documented as a religious war have good context too them like the crusades.
Christianity is falling because of luxury lifestyles. It’s happened before with humanity, we get everything we want and you slowly start to slip away from your god until the world gets too lazy and has to redo it all over again.
I will say though that most religions are about not getting too full of yourself as that’s how we fall.

Sassanid dynasty (224-651 AD) declared Zoroastrianism as the state religion
The Muslim conquest of Persia, also known as the Arab conquest of Iran led to the end of the Sasanian Empire in 651 and the eventual decline of the Zoroastrian religion in Iran . . . In the process, many acts of violence took place, Zoroastrian scriptures were burnt and many mobads executed.
The Shiite Safavid dynasty destroyed what was once a vibrant community of Zoroastrians. As per official policy, Safavids wanted everyone to convert to the Shia sect of Islam and killed hundreds of thousands of Zoroastrians and other minorities when they refused. The majority of Zoroastrians also left for India though about 20% remained, most of whom had to migrate in the late 19th century as the Qajar dynasty imposed greater restrictions on them.
During the Qajar Dynasty, religious persecution of the Zoroastrians was rampant. Due to the increasing contacts with influential Parsi philanthropists such as Maneckji Limji Hataria, many Zoroastrians left Iran for India. There, they formed the second major Indian Zoroastrian community known as the Iranis.

And, according to Catholic dogma, one who is openly a heretic is outside of the Church, and one outside the Church cannot be the head of it. Of course, this sounds crazy to many people, especially to socalled traditionalist Catholics. Sadly, it is reality, and the vast majority of protestant sects are openly on the side of evil as well, who seek to destroy the European races due to our ties to Christianity, spread and defense of it. Christianity is losing popularity just like the reason paganism lost popularity. Paganism was around when there were many wars and with the wars a belief that made warriors feel happy when they die after a hard battle appeared. Paganism lost popularity when over time, fewer wars occurred which made paganism an obsolete religion. Christianity appeared before paganism lost popularity but wasn't that popular. Christianity was popular in the middle age and back in the middle age, most people were poor. It was popular amongst the poor because it made the poor feel like not being rich was a good thing, as it was taught in the bible that being rich meant that you have such a large amount of money and you are not using it for charity which is bad. As time went on and poverty decreased fewer people needed Christianity to feel good about themselves. No new religions have been made for a while because they aren't needed in current days.

Without Catholicism, we Germans would maybe still be living in mud huts, still have no written language, no great inventors, scientists, heroes, architects, wonderful castles churches, city halls, etc. Every people became even greater when they converted to Catholicism, yes, even the Romans-Italians. One could say the Italians were the closest to being 'God's chosen', since it was they who led to the conversion of Europe. The fact is, the vast majority of the greatest scientists, inventors, architects, artists, etc were either Catholic, protestant or were educated at a university (universities were created by the Catholic church, the first in Bologna), or before then in cathedral or monastic schools. Sadly, the Vatican has been infiltrated by certain people of a secret society (masons) and the tribe who are openly anti-Catholic and seek to destroy everything sacred and holy, including the German and other European races, through various subversive ways and of course population exchange. There are still quite a few true Catholics out there. But at the end of the day, we Germans and other Europeans who fought with us, we can and should be proud of our great Christian past, our heroes, composers, inventors, saints, our wonderfully beautiful churches, city halls, etc who brought us to greatness and defended us and Europe vs eastern hordes from the Huns, Mongols, Ottomans to the Bolsheviks.

The Protestant Reformation was not this bleak power grab by the people, it was of course made into a way for it to be a power grab. However a lot of converts were simple Christians with loosening ties to the church who finally were able to read the bible and realized that the noble who can just buy their way out of eternal hellfire shouldn't be able to.

There are different forms of Protestantism but most of them are similar. My dad has studied Mormonism and since they believe in the New Testament and their Mormon bible that means that they contradict themselves a lot. Like in the New Testament it says in Revelations that you can't add new to the bible but Joseph Smith (the guy who made Mormonism) did when he supposedly found golden tablets which ascended into heaven. They say those golden tablets were written by Jesus when he crossed into America's but it never mentions Jesus crossing into America in the first place in the New Testament.
In the Vatican archives, it says the Pope can add new books to the bible but again it says you can't in the New Testament. There is probably more but I mostly know about Mormons.

  • @Old_Harry7
    @Old_Harry7 Před 3 lety +4

    1- Why Catholics vs Protestants?
True is the split between these two branches of christianity wasn't ideological, just political. North countries (such as Scandinavian states and German princes) desired at the time churches money, they also didn't like Austria hegemony on the continent and decided to split justifying the whole thing with an ideological excuse (stuff like Rome and the Pope are corrupt, Catholics aren't well interpreting the holy Bible etc etc).
2- Why no Sun based religion survived to this day?
The animist cults (those religions that were based on physical elements such as fire, water, light and so on) were the first ever examples of religions humans practiced. Animism was outlived because it lacked and organised clergy and some sort of holy scriptures (basically religions official guidelines) and because of that animists cults were not that capable of keeping society in check and making money (which are the main goals of organised "modern" religions like Christianity or Islam).
3-The rise of Atheism and Islam
Long story short, A+ citizens of first world countries aren't so in need of a spiritual or religious guide, they have wealth, money and a bright future ahead, religion is simply useless to them.
Interestingly enough this demographic has shifted on personality cults and ultra capitalistic views that someone may argue are somewhat of a modern new religions themselves.
On the other hand, the other side of the world Is poor and becuase of that desperate for a spiritual and religious guideline. This countries were historically Muslim and, as I said before, because of their social and economic situation have sticked with their local religion. It's not about Islam itself but really about the geopolitical economic situation; as proof of this, many rich and well educated Muslim families of first world countries tend to drop their religion beliefs in a few generations because they simply don't need it anymore.

  • @CaptaineRed
    @CaptaineRed Před 3 lety +15

Well, if Religion was just thanking then the Sun would've been enough. But religion and its rituals are what kept human societies together for centuries amidst the chaos Tommy mentions. It gave some traditions that were lasting for generations and this stabilized human development, but of course when something is that important to a society it gets usurped for its power at times.
On the believer side, St Pierre arrived in Rome, a foreign city following pagan gods which brought them glory for centuries, he was chained up with less than 10 homies, and 50 years later Rome was full of Churches. If that guy really did not receive help from God, then he was the most skilled manipulator ever. Or maybe beyond the "unrealistic" stuff, the message he carried was just so strong it convinced all of its worthiness as the cult to follow
Anyway, we'll see how that goes nowadays with Islam

From Ancient religions to newer ones they gave a sense of hope that if not in this world maybe in the next we may find true and eternal Happines.
Religion played a big part in human development for sure and it still does but to a lesser extent,In my point of view as humanity contìnues its advancments through technological innovations and better living conditions overall.
We dont need religion to keep us Moral,We dont need it to keep us from falling apart and most importently we dont need hope for a better future if the present is already great, which I think is a good thing.

And it felt good and I thank God for that
Have to agree tho that it is not necessary anymore for survival needs, not as much as it was in ancient times at least! Also, it is pretty obvious that there is an uncreated being who created everything, otherwise there would be no beginning and thus no end. There is clearly a God, but what is less clear is whose God it is, on first sight. But, again, things like the Shroud of Turin and the fact that Catholicism brought everyone the greatest civilization the world has ever seen are the best proofs of Catholicism being God's religion. Also, the fact that openly satanic-evil forces focus the most against the Church, so much that they have already infiltrated the Vatican and have openly said-done heretical things, including men who claim to be pope since after Pius XII, shows even more how Satan hates the Church more than anything else, more than anyone except Christ himself, followed by the Austrian painter and the German race, followed by the other European races, due to our Christian heritage and the fact we spread it and defended it against them and others.

buddhism also counts as part of atheism because it teaches there's no gods, so when somebody espouses one of the mentioned above it's considered atheism in general, the majority is not actually atheism, it's apatheism, they just don't care mate, another example, in christianity there's many branches, but in short they call them christians

@@bladeoffrost6439 Atheism is growing the fastest by conversion. Pew research shows that in the 5 year period from 2005 to 2010, Islam gained about 420000 net converts, whereas atheism gained over 7.5m new members in that same period.
Just because atheism has different branches does not mean that somehow those that become atheist are not actually becoming atheist, just like how a convert to Shia islam is still a convert to islam, even though he or she may not be Sunni.

I find the opinion that religious institutions are extremely hierarchical to be quite accurate but then again all aspects of human society is like that even with science, like for a long time people thought phrenology (skull measurement of different human "races" to prove some form of superiority like in Django Unchained) to be true because major scientists of the time believed it to be true. Similarly if the World Health Organisation publishes something tomorrow which is untrue most normal people would believe it, without questioning it. I personally think that's why things like the Snowden leaks or Catholic priests abuse are such big events of our time because they shake people's almost blind trust in structures of power in society. As Voltaire once very aptly said "Le doute est un état mental désagréable, mais la certitude est ridicule" , which translates to "Doubt is an uncomfortable mental state, but certainty is a ridiculous one", one could argue that even the "original" Protestant reformation to being equitable to priests like John Calvin, Martin Luther, Jan Hus etc; questioning the major power structure of their time the Roman Catholic Church.

As a jew, from my point of view the reason the judaism is not losing that much members as christianity it is because our Religion is much more scientific (even tough many stuff from Judism are seen in Islam and christianity) because we believe we don't need to enforce our religion on others, we need to live by our religious way in our land in peace, we believe in education and reading books, there's a reason the jews were considered rich and smart in medieval times (even before the schools were a thing). Jesus: basically preaches communism

also: different characters in the bible are conglomerates of older religions and myths. Similarly it is also very likely that the "historically figures" are combinations of several people from different times and places fused together and not a single person. The history and origin of different religions is very interesting, I recommend watch some of "Aron Ra"s stuff, like that the idea of the "soul" comes from ancient people not understanding why we breath and not knowing what air is... really interesting.
