Everyone gets shocked when Selim is chosen for the throne sanjak. While Bayezid wrathfully wants an explanation from his mother, Selim gets proud that he is the chosen one. Meanwhile, Mustafa leaves the capital disappointedly.
Cecelia learns that Selim is the new heir of the throne and sets her sights high. He plays a dangerous trick when she isn't chosen in Selim's harem. Hürrem gets impressed by Cecelia's courage and makes an offer to her.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

Nurbanu had so much potential as a character, instead she just got made into a discount version of Hurrem and gave Hurrem an extremely contrived reason to hate her. (In real history, Hurrem and Nurbanu had a close relationship. Nurbanu was also never an enemy of Mihirmah).

And then Nurbanu says the same to Safiye. It's the whole toxic cycle perpetuating itself. Hürrem is very interesting because in some ways she's acutely aware of the injustices of slavery, and that motivates her charity work. But in other ways she continues the cycle. Just as in this scene.

When Cecilia asked Hurrem to help send her home Hurrem refused and told her she is now an odalisque to Ottomans after that Hurrem deeply regretted not sending her back to her home she didn't know that this girl would be the only one who will be able to put a limit to her .

Welcolme Nurbanu one of the best players in this game :) I think that she surpassed even the young Hurrem because unlike her, she is not impulsive to directly confront people much more powerful than her (which could attract Hurrem to a lot of trouble for example the fact that she directly threatened Hafsa with a knife even if it was due to a hard event for her).
In addition I understand why she wants to be with Selim instead of Bayezid or Mustafa( besides the fact that he saved her life). He is the only one who is not boring and very interesting (the rest of the sehzade too pure or terribly lacking in intelligence like Bayezid which is boring; and even if I like Cihangir very much and he is intelligent, the series also paints him as too pure which does not change from his brothers). In her place my choice would be the same XD ( yes I confess that I really like Show Selim).
Nurbanu is AWESOME. Probably my second favourite character after Hürrem.

I like Selim too, and I don't hide that fact or shy away from it... really the only Prince in the series with any character depth.
I wish they had chosen any other actress for Nurbanu sultan character, but that doesn't mean that she's not good enough. Merve is just perfect for the so called "most hated, evil sultana" Nurbanu, but for the Nurbanu sultan of actual history, the character deserves someone who looks innocent yet wise and sharp, because, it needs kind of cleverness and intelligence for one to create a valide sultan out of a slavic girl, unlike the portrayal depicted in the show. They simply butchered her character!!! Seriously it's kinda frustrating to watch her role in this show (not blaming the actress though, she just did her job as an actress). I literally can't stand watching Nurbanu sultan's character ruined just for the sake of adding up colors to the show.😒
Nurbanu was not slavic, Hurrem was. Nurbanu was either Venetian, Jewish, or Greek, while Hurrem was born in Rohatyn, Kingdom of Poland (today's Ukraine). (No, she was not Russian, I don't know why they made her to be in the show). Btw, the "Russian Language" she speaks on rare occasions doesn't sound like it's supposed to at all. It's truly astonishing that they didn't check with a linguist first. Aaaand... actual Hurrem Sultan's mother tongue would most likely be either Polish or Ukrainian. Considering her surname was "Lisowska", my money is on the former. (But, it's only an educated guess, of course).
