  • Hi Everyone :)
    Welcome back!
physicsfun is bringing you "Watch This Mind Blowing Amazing Toys/Gadgets"!
Sit back and relax. Enjoy 8 minutes of oddly satisfying scientific curiosities featuring various engines with candles, ferrofluid toys, kinetic art that uses physics, optical illusions, various forms of dices, math toys/shapes and more mindblowing stuff!
I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself.
Purchasing items from the links on these pages will help support my IG page of science and wonder.

👉🏻 This video contains and involves phenomena in each clips :
00:00 Dot Animation Cards: a unique version of barrier-grid (kinegram) animation where a matrix of holes allows only some of the dots on the covered card to show in succession producing the appearance of motion.
(moire, moire pattern, interference, constructive interference, physics, cinespinner, animation, science, kinetic art)
01:17 CineSpinner Pencil Topper: motion animation from Moiré pattern effects of constructive and deconstructive interference.
(constructive interference, physics, physicstoy, cinespinner, animation)
01:33 TrueBalance: coordination challenge puzzle- get the six disks, connected by bearing swivels, into a vertical stack by only tilting the handle.
(physics, physics toy, physics fun, balance, unstable equilibrium, kinetic art, center of mass, physics puzzle)
02:06 Rainbow Twirler: shaped by angular momentum and centripetal acceleration-
(bubble, centripetal, angular momentum, swirl and twirl, flicker fusion, psycho physics)
02:40 Maxwell’s Dynamical Top: one of my favorite demonstrations of the strange properties of rotating bodies- shown here with a 1/2 scale but exacting replica (@machinedmarvels) of the famous “Dynamical Top” created and demonstrated by the great physicist James Clerk Maxwell in 1857. When this brass bell shaped top is spinning an interesting stability can occur- push on the pointed stem and the top will push back, forcing the stem against that object, and friction will cause the stem to roll along and trace the edge of the object. Note- magnets are NOT involved here. The key to this design is to make the contact point/tip of the top at its own center of mass, then any frictional force in contact with the stem will produce a torque about the contact point at a right angle to the direction of friction that creates the stabilizing force (students of physics may recognize application of the right hand rule here). This beautiful historical replica is now available from machinist and creator Jim Peever @machinedmarvels- and as far as I know the only other replicas of this device where made in the 1880’s!
03:06 Magnetic Flux Gyroscope Pendant: two neodymium magnets on chains remain suspended by their mutual magnetic attraction.
(magnets, magnetic field, magnetic force, magnetic sculpture, equilibrium, neodymium, dipole, Bfield, electro magnetism, science, gyroscope pendant, magnetic flux, magnetic flux gyroscope, physics jewelry, science jewelry)
03:32 In Defiance of Gravity: a 3 oz plumb bob in suspension between a chain and a powerful neodymium magnet.
(magnets, magnetic field, magnetic force , kineticart, magnetic sculpture, neodymium, ferro magnetism, physicsfun)
04:27 Tautochrone Curve: a cycloid curve which has the special property that the time it takes for an object to slide to the bottom of it under gravity is the same no matter how high it starts up the curve.
    (cycloid, circle, tautochrone, brachistochrone)
04:59 Colored Ferrofluid Display Cells: a favorite post from my collection-
(ferro fluid, fluid dynamics, magnets, magnetic field, surface tension, neodymium)
05:38 Magnetic Hoops Suspension Sculpture: Steel circles are suspended by a magnet (black sphere) and held down to the base by a thin thread.
(magnets, physicsfun, magnetic force, magnetic sculpture)
05:59 How many marbles can be added to a full glass of water without spilling a drop?
06:39 Spirelli Toy: very simple kinetic art toy that utilizes the interplay of potential energy of gravity and conservation of angular momentum- basically a wave train of tiny hula hoops!
(gravity, potential energy, angular momentum, kinetic energy, vortex)

It has probably already been noted but the steel balls in the glass of water is held by surface tension. Did the same trick with my grandson. Two glasses, glass marbles and water. the only difference was the drop of liquid soap coating the bottom of his glass. The soap breaks the surface tension. I won.
