I’ve talked to an actual voice actor for the sims at a convention and she told me sims 2 was a bunch of gibberish that the voice actors made up and for sims 3 they decided to actually use a script. So you are right they did in a way make it more of a real language.

It's definitely the open map. It's the best thing that ever happened to the game and the closest the game got to feeling "real". Loading screens, even when they're 5 seconds like in the Sims 4, just take you out of the game... I mean they must know this, it's what Sim City was about in the first place, if you had a loading screen everytime you built a building in Sim City it would be the worst thing ever.

    • @DanSwerdlove-wb5jl

The people who made Sims were so smart. I never thought about it that way but if the sims talked in English it would be so annoying hearing the same phrases over and over again! I'm surprised that the cheat menu was added in on the first sims game, I still use the rosebud cheat now! Also they should really bring back the mafia haha and the custom clothes, that sounded awesome! And I wish they'd bring back the sense of community in the sims, without hitting a loading screen every time you want to go somewhere. Thanks for this video it was great

    • @ella_komiya
      @ella_komiya Před 5 lety +9

Faith Castell - the loading screen makes sense though. My laptop buffered so much and worked so hard to play sims 3 as it was all connected in one world. Sims 4 runs much more smoothly on the same laptop because each property I segregated. I prefer smoother game play over bigger neighbourhood. And each time there is a loading screen that’s my cue to get a drink or stretch my legs, especially as I can easily play sims 3-8 hours a day.

You didn't mention one of the biggest changes in Sims 2 -- neighborhood customisation! It was the first sims game that let you fully customise your neighborhood, place lots wherever you want and make them a variety of sizes, and the only one to let you design your own map in Sim City and import them. It's a big feature that's entirely missing in Sims 4, which has gone back to a Sims 1 style neighborhood layout that can't be edited at all.

The world is tiny, it's barely got any content to it, and my sim ended up dying because she wouldnt walk to the pool right next to her to extinguish herself after I had queued it up. I finished the content for it in four hours. The sims 3 spoiled me.

The Sims 2 is definitely my favourite Sims game. It is basically my childhood and teenhood. I can cry just by listening to the soundtracks from that game. And the cutscenes makes the game more immersive and dramatic. The expansion packs for The Sims 2 are also amazing. Not to mention all the families that came with the game is even more dramatic, I remember Veronaville is my favourite neighbourhood having the Monty, Capp, and Summerdream families. Pleasantview was, like its name, a pleasant neighbourhood. The families however are not really pleasant and have lots of dramas like how Daniel Pleasant cheated on his wife, and the twins are enemies, the wealthy Goth family with Bella being a huge mystery, the Broke family being broke af, Don Lothario fucks with everyone lmao. The Strangetown is a mystery in itself with Olive Specter having all her husbands dead and also a Grim Reaper baby while Pollination Tech#9 Smith, an alien, is having a family on earth, the Grunt family, and all. Ahhh the nostalgia.

I feel like EA has just got to comfortable to the point that they now think that they can create something and throw it at Sims fans and think that they will like it. The Sims 4 has been out for 4 years and now and they barley have any expansion and stuff packs. The stuff packs and expansion packs aren't even that good. The Sims , The Sims 2 , and The Sims 3 are a lot better than The Sims 4 considering they probably put more effort into the stuff packs and expansion packs and the actual game. I personally like The Sims 2 the most. Who knows what The Sims 5 could be like. I mean, they may not even make a 5th game since they barley even try anymore.

The sims was never cheap but EA now have a reputation as money hungry scammers who take advantage of their loyal fanbase. Aside from all the features removed from sims 4, the very fact that it *has* to be tied to an origin account it ridiculous. A parent with 2 or more children now has to buy the kids a copy of the £40 game each.
I've lost all respect for the company since sims 3 and I desperately hope for a competing game company to show them how it should be done. Unfortunately the sims has a monopoly on this style of game and they're presumably using rigid patents and copyright claims to stop any potential competition, and as such, any creativity or innovation.
Knowing now that Will Wright left the company after sims 2 everything makes so much more sense. I wonder how he feels about what his creation has become. I wonder if he's as disgusted by their business practises as many longtime fans are.

Those were really unique and made me feel special because I felt like my world was unique, my clothes and furnitres were unique. I felt like there was always something new to find out about the game or to exprience in the game. Everything felt so alive! But Sims 4 feels like a mobile game tbh. Multi tasking, New character models, that new build/buy mode and new Cas are reeeaaaalllyyy good. But, like I said, it feels more like a mobile game where what you have to do is already decided. sigh the only thing I like about Sims 4 is its graphics. I love the Sims 3 gameplay where no loading screens are involved and I can just look at what's happening at the local park while my Sims do their things if I want to. Sims 4 is just soooo limiting in what we can do and it gets boring fast.

If there's a Sims 5, I want it to pick up where the Sims 3 left off and just ignore the Sims 4. I hope it becomes one of those games we don't speak of xD Also, imagine if the game had mental health. It would add a whole new layer to personalities and immerse you more in the sim-caring-for experience.

I mean, to be fair, the sims 4 does have loading screens but they arent that long cause most people who play it have decent or good enough rigs to run it. I've heard people complain about loading times in the sims 2. Honestly, the sims 4 improves stuff like saving times and loading. The sims 3 had ridiculous saving times. I think it is due in part to the small world so it doesnt have much to save or load and is my only gripe about the game so far.

There's something about Sims 2's simplicity that makes it so...comforting to come back to after hours of Sims 3 and 4.
Sometimes you just want to go back to the days when you had to keep pestering your parents for new computers because Sims 2 came out and it won't run on your current computer. The days when you would spend hours messing around with this innovative stuff that they call "3D."
The days when you would start freaking out after you spent all your Simoleons on something stupid, so you had to sell a window for pizza every day.
And even if you didn't experience all that stuff; Sims 2 is just fun to get lost in. It's got a certain charm that the later games don't. Sims 3 is great; it just doesn't have the personality that this has. And Sims 4 has come CLOSE at times, but the less we say about Sims 4, the better.
Such a freaking classic, man. EA was KILLING IT in the early 2000s. SimCity 4, NFS Most Wanted 2005, Burnout 3, their crap was on point. Such a shame that nowadays they release soulless cashgrabs for money...

TS3 is incredibly immersive and closer to a real life simulation than any other game of the franchise. TS2 is so much fun and offers a lighter and less complicated experience that can be just as entertaining as TS3...
But all I can say about TS4 is that it's CAS mechanics are undoubtly superior. All the other aspects of it seem neutral to not so good, especially when compared to the previous ones. Really didn't feel like the "next thing" in the franchise, feels more like a prettier-looking spin off.

Maybe with the technology that we currently have, yes. But in the past, I also didn't think that video games would come as far as they currently have. It would just require the right game engine. People put older retro games into modern games all the time. I would think that eventually there could be a game in which your building your city and noticing problems with your education buildings, so the city simulation could somewhat be put on pause while you go into the school buildings and modify things in a Sims-like style so that your schools are running better.

The perfect Sims game would be a game that has the music of the Sims 1, the gameplay of the Sims 2 (things like buying groceries being required, burglars, firefighters etc should be brought back), create a style, controllable pets, (perhaps open world if they can actually fix all the lag and bugs) from the Sims 3, and create a Sim and build and buy mode from the Sims 4. Also, all the usual expansions like seasons and pets should become part of the base game already. It would be nice if we could also get height sliders. I like Sims 4, but I admit that it does feel a bit feature-poor at times (although it's harder for me to judge that than some people -- I skipped Sims 3 because I thought the Sims looked creepy in that one). I blame Stuff packs -- EA noticed we would pay a decent amount for small chunks of content, and with Sims 4, they are running the concept into the ground. It's probably easier for them to release Stuff and Game packs for slightly less and count on more people buying them for the somewhat-cheaper price. I don't know how well it's working for them, but it would explain why so many Stuff and Game packs feel like chunks whacked out of earlier expansions (example: Outdoor Retreat being one-third of the classic Sims Vacation).

Yes exactly!! That's what I keep telling people who complain about the lack of features in the Sims 4 base game. It's for the very reason you described. It's way cheaper to make the extensions and packs and stuff and they generate way more revenue thst way because the base game gets so old abd dull QUICK, so then the customers buy all the packs. I think they're trying to make up for lost revenue tho from so many who now download it online through torrents (guilty)...
