Richard Hammond is just the greatest dad and family man you can imagine. World known super star, yet so humble he has to justify any lavish purchase vs family needs. Hats off to you my sir.
It also shows that while the trio are certainly very well off, they aren't the multi-millionaires that some people claim. They can't just buy what they want, when they want.

Now he could buy pretty much any car he wants. But why would he?, he’s one of the biggest names in the car world, he gets to drive all the new super cars and sports cars. Think about it he’s on here if he rings up any company’s says can I review this car they’re going to do it. Now he buys the cars he loves, the ones that he’s always wanted not just all the cars in the world.

Yup - a bucket-load of features, most of which you'll never use on a day to day basis. Just a way of showing off to your friends & work colleagues.
I have paddles on my 07 plate and use them once a year for fun, waste of space
I hope Hammond bought it. You can tell he really has a fondness for this car just by his body language, he was constantly touching it.
What gets me is that everything that led to him selling it was well-intentioned. He moved his family closer to his work so he could have more time at home with them. Then he realized that the move wasn’t going to make his family happy, so they moved back. He deserves that car, and I’m with you, I hope his wife let him buy it.
You could see the pain in his eyes as it was pulling away.
Hammond, a very rich man, still agonizes over buying toys. That’s why he’s so likeable. He’s still one of us.

@@andyclark3491 I've got a garage full of bikes and cars, i'm a 25 year old truck driver. Money doesn't change anything, if you want a classic car then it's not a hard goal to go for, even exotic ones are possible if you're willing to put the work in. It's not like Richard just woke up rich...
This car was early TG days. I doubt he’s agonizing over 60k or whatever anymore. He’s literally a multi-millionaire these days.

I was on my vacation to Europe in 2001, driving from Monaco to Milan, when a 550 blew past me in a tunnel. That was when I felt I was truly in Italy.

Very humbling hearing someone like Richard Hammond talking about struggling and obviously working hard too get too where he is now.
Harry is one of my favorite auto journalists ever and I’m from the NJ/USA. As amazing as an auto journalist he is, that’s selling him short on so much more. I would give anything to go to his garage. 140 mile round trip to work in a 550 and many other awesome cars. He’s a living legend

I hate seeing people close frame-less coupe doors by pushing on the glass!
I make a point of pushing the glass on mine, I like to reacquaint myself with how strong the glass is every day!
If the door can be shut without it shattering, gently pushing the door via the glass will do absolutely nothing 🤦♂️ if the weather stripping/door fitment is fine you can literally throw the door shut two handed with no ill effect 👍(only do that last bit on cars YOU own please 😄)
Berry Reading but you’ll still get fingerprints on the glass, which is a pain to remove.

I can listen to a chat between Harry and Hammond for hours on end.
I remember my dad took me too a Ferrari expo where I lived when I was 9 and this car was there (1998/9, somewhere around there) and thats when I first saw this car.
It was and still is the most beautiful car I have ever set eyes on. The guy who owned it was a nice old bloke, and I think he loved seeing a kid so excited about a car and was happy to let me sit in the driver's seat.
One of the happiest moments of my young life.
One day I will own one of these. One day.
I need more content with Harry and Richard, because that was an unexpected delight and I'm a huge fan of both.
I think each of us watching this video from start to finish enjoyed it - and also was pained by it remembering all of the previous cars we’ve bought and later regretted we’ve sold. I think what pains us most is that by the time we realize what we have done, someone doesn’t take care of the car like we would have or enjoys it and the car appreciates to a value much higher than we sold it for. This 550 is a beautiful car and hearing Harry and Hammond reminisce about their love for this car just made all other 550’s around the world a little more expensive. Great video. Thank you !!!

This has to be my favorite DRIVETRIBE episode yet. I love the honest nostalgia; I think everyone has that one car they wish they could have back. Still remember all the nights I've spent with my buddies just talking about our old beasts. I really hope Hammond ended up getting that one back, and made that call.

This Ferrari is like a beautiful woman who had lots of nice boyfriends but never really got married and start a family.
I’ve heard the same analogy applied to Alfa Romeos before. A sales man once told me many people would come test-drive a car then go buy a BMW or Audi equivalent.

I adore the spec on Harry's project 8. Just gorgeous.
What a joy to listen to that pair reminiscing. What I particularly appreciate is that it happens to be a 550 Maranello or it could be a Capri 2.8i, or an Alfasud, or a Skoda 136 Rapid, or a Mini 1275GT. At the end of the day it's just cars and why we love them.
I remember when this was new, people felt that, the design of the 550 wouldn’t age well compared to say an Aston Vanquish. Now when we look at it, after so many years, it’s still very very likeable.

As a DT member, i always look forward to a bit of a candid interview with one of the TG/GT "lads". But also, as a ravenous consumer of Harrys Garage videos, imagine my surprise (and absolute joy), when i found out DT did an interview with both Richard and Harry about my favourite Ferrari ever made (after the 250 GTO of course). Absolutely stonking video!! love this. Will no doubt be watched many a time going into the future. Cheers guys! 🍻🙌
That engine just takes your breath away. Looks might get dated but that sound never gets old.
1:14 So many cool cars. And in the middle of them, a wild Renault Clio.
A one of 500 Clio trophy that won evo car of the year in 05-06 maybe and during the test Harry rang Renault and asked if he could buy the car they were using and he went home in it!

Although not a trophy, my mate has a well sorted cup without any of the added packs so its back to bare bones motoring, its a really great thing to drive.

Literally within the last couple of days was thinking "why aren't 550s more popular still?' Id honestly much rather have one of these over the modern front engine V12 Ferraris. Same with the 355, I'd rock either of these all day every day with a huge smile. The 550 was the understated beauty of Ferrari, the Ferrari that almost didn't look like a Ferrari but was still beautiful and had all the presence needed. Love it.
He cancelled the extension and bought the Ferrari for his wife.

Probably one of my favourite Ferraris of all time. Hammond described it perfectly.
This is a bit like when Family Guy characters and Simpsons characters are on screen at the same time.
The proportions the artist used on Hammond are a bit off, he looks to small compared to how they drew the other two
When the reunion became a sales pitch....I felt sorry for the guy. Especially given why he had to get rid of it.

I can understand the term Great Motoring Regrets. I sold my 69 Camaro that I built from the ground up with no professional help whatsoever back in 1994 and I still do not wake-up in the morning regretting doing that almost 30 years later.
Great seeing Hammond at Harry's place.
Can't really imagine Hammond hasn't the finances for this car, or for that matter the new extension would put his finances in a precarious situation... Buy it back!
