As someone who runs a *Feather* deck and a *Marath* deck, I’ve learned to never EVER tap out to make a play on my turn. Always hold a defensive instant and the mana to pay for it.

I love how the solution to "my opponents keep killing my commander" boils down to "play good cards".
Alternatively, you could play slightly less powerful commanders and convince the other players that your opponents are more dangerous…

Very surprised to see that plaxcaster frogling did not make an appearance. It has synergy with Atraxa and literally protects her as well
Been struggling to perfect my Atraxa deck for the past 6 years. This vid is just what the doctor ordered...nearly crapped my panties when I saw you were doing this video. Great ideas and I already had all the cards and had taken some out years ago from the deck. Lowered the mana curve by a lot as well. Plays much better. Thank you, Prof!!!!

@@DLselduto it's not "better" as Giver of Runes can't target itself to get protection. But she can give another creature protection from colorless should that opportunity ever come up. In a manner of speaking for mutate however, yes you can mutate onto her but there are MUCH better mutations I'm sure.

I would love to see an episode like this around Sigarda, Host of Herons! I love playing with her and my playgroup always tries their hardest to get rid of her (usually to little avail).
Everyone else: "Yeah Atraxa Superfriends is the way to go, although +1 counters is a pretty solid strategy also".
Me: "Yeah k but like what about Fungas spore counters?"
Them: "I don't think high power is for you"
Me: "Lol saporlings are cute"
😂 I have that deck and ok sure its not fast or even really powerful but come on saprolings!! How could I not build it
I run a Slimefoot EDH deck with a ton of looping combos to kill the whole table. Everybody thinks the saprolings are cute until you're using them as fuel for the drain engine!

So, going back to Mother of Runes, might I add a fun fact?
Add in Painter's Servant and have it set to any color you want, then when it comes time to use Mother of Runes, tap her give protection from the CALLED color on painter's servant
If you're gonna play Painters Servant, may I also recommend Life Force and Death Grip?

Wow great tips professor, i need to revisit my atraxa deck, recently i was finally able to brought the full art version of atraxa from Duoble master( i know it's useless to spend money like that but i really love atraxa and is the only card that i will brought full art i swear XD ) , so i really can't wait to put your tips into my deck and crush the next commander table :D . Really, commander is the best format of Magic of all time no doubt about that

I loved seeing Meren and Spore Frog in there hehe. My play group freaks out so much when I play that.
Plaxcaster Frogling is a another great card in this category for Atraxa, has graft and for 2 mana can give a creature with +1/+1 counters shroud

This would function well with Victory’s Envoy, which puts a 1+/+1 counter on each creature you control

But sadly, most of the recommended cards are a bit meh in that kind of deck, as they all are more on a creaturedeck Axis
I just recently changed my Atraxxa deck from a Superfiends deck back to a counter synergy deck just cuz I'm in quarentine with only my son to play with. 1 vs 1 with Atraxxa being superfriends is almost unbeatable since no one ever has enough planeswalker removal.
vorel can't double the counters on simic ascendancy, just artifact, creatures, or lands

While this is correct, Vorel doubling the +1/+1 counters on a creature will also put that many counters on the Ascendency. So the prof is half right. If Vorel could double the counters on Ascendency though that would be borked af.
If I double the number of counters on a creature with Vorel, I have also doubled the number of counters on Simic Ascendancy. So yes, you can double the counters with Vorel. Think of it like quantum entanglement ;)

My Zaxara, The Exemplary has quickly become a "must-kill" commander in my playgroup because of how easy it is to go infinite. I have Heroic Intervention and a bunch of scary creatures to help though ;) great video!

The one thing that makes me truely sad is that when they spoiled Atraxa I just genuinely thought that she looked cool and was in all my favorite colors. That and she was related to the Phyrexians which is a piece of lore, one of my favorites to add, I missed out on playing with as I joined Magic just a bit to late to enjoy stuff like New Phyrexia and such.
Not going to lie - I haven't played Magic for quite some time. One of the last times I did play was in Commander and with my Atraxa deck I had cobbled together. This video tugged on the nostalgia hard and quite nearly got me to break out the boxes of cards I have stored away.

I am very familiar with Faeburrow Elder. I use him along with Bloom Tender, Umbral Mantle, and Crab Umbra in my Landfall deck with the new 4-color Omnath commander.

For protection from untargeted destruction (board wipes etc) try Vanishing. Works beautifully in Narset decks 😁

Spellskite is very useful for protecting your commander or stealing targeted creature buffs! I also really like Kira, Great Glass-Spinner since she protects herself as well.
If u have the place for it, then I can also recommend lightning greaves
a super cheap equipment, that gives a target creature hast and shroud and forces your victims, I mean opponents, sorry, to use their boardwipes.
And you can just switch it around as needed, since re equipping doesn't cost anything
Bruna, Light of Alabaster is a glass cannon that could use some must-remove threats.
I play Kaalia of the Vast, Lighting Greaves, and Swiftfoot boots are all I have for protection so far
