Seems your list for Green is missing a card, Prof.
Hi Prof, a personal favorite is Camouflage from ABU. It’s oracle text is a mess but it’s a one mana green card with tons of politicking potential in commander, and the reactions are hilarious when it hits the table
What about lesser known 1 mana hybrid and colourless cards
Love the list and this series Prof!
How to polite get rid of an unwanted guest: "I can not recommend Drinking Coffee Elsewhere enough."
If you tap Scattershot Archer before combat, you've just killed your own Warkite Marauder. You need to wait until the Marauder's triggered ability is on the stack, then tap your Archer. You'll still kill your Marauder, but you'll take their biggest flyer along with it.
I was going to comment this then though to myself, hmm... there have got to be some fellow judges/sensible people in the comments.
Im never not going to laugh at "Sharding Sphinx"
Same lmao
Dammit
I’ll never understand how it’s funny.
@@comradecameron3726 "Sharting Sphinx"
This is a crappy thing to laugh at 🤣
Colorless then mention wayfarer's bauble to shout out to Mitch in commanders quarters lol
Don't do it, the bauble will be like 30 dollars afterwards
C M they are an option but just remember there not to replace key elements of the deck unless your a scumbag like me and play hapatra infect with blightsteel colossus :D
I run most of these...a byproduct of having 30+ green decks. You did miss 2 great combat tricks: Primal Bellow and Might of the Masses
Victor Way hell yeah a fellow hapatra player! I play hapatra in a playgroup where it’s me and 3 atraxa decks so I’m popular :D
Add Triumph of the Hordes
@@MrNocturnalEmission I was originally going to suggest several great cards, but then remembered the video is specifically about 1-drops. Triumph of the Hordes definitely qualifies as a powerhouse.
@@orgazmo686971 Yeah I immediately forgot this was about one drops when I recommended it.
Emerald Charm: So in its youth Starmie was a grass pokemon...
Here is a list of all of the cards if anyone is interested in just the names
1. Caustic caterpillar
2. Copperhorn scout
3. Elephant grass
4. Elvish header
5. Emerald charm
6. Forgotten lore
7. Magus of the candelabra
8. Metamorphosis
9. Scattershot archer
10. There was no 10th card!
Your welcome, anyone else think prof forgot a card at the end since the title says 10 cards.
Crumble should be #10 IMO...
thank you
"Even a common card like caustic catapillar can cause contention..." great alliteration in this sentence 👍
Sometimes I forget how rare some cards are. My dad played magic before he passed so I have a candelabra and I was just surprised.
It's about $500 - $700 currently. Congrats on being one of the lucky few. It's a sweet card to have.
I have the same problem. The biggest MTG buff in our playgroup was pretty shocked when I built a deck with Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale in it. It was in a filing box with my brother's abandoned collection in it. I had no idea what it was worth, and didn't believe him when he told me until we looked it up. Every so often I'll dig a handful out of that box to check their value.
If I could add one card to this list, I would definitely have to say “Rofellos’s Gift”! I know it’s not perfect in every deck, but considering most of my decks have enchantment sub themes, I really really like it and have gotten a lot of use out of it! Definitely one of my favorite pet cards. Thanks so much for the awesome video prof!
here's some green 1-cost cards I found:
• Avoid Fate
• Carapace
• Elvish Scout
• Instill Energy
• Natural State (gets rid of sol rings really clean)
• Nature's Chosen
• Shaper's Sanctuary (I bet everyone forgot about this one)
• Spider Umbra (totem armor for 1 mana)
• Take Down
• Village Elder (repeatable regenerate effect)
• Whippoorwill
I prefer nature's claim over natural state.
Another Card:
Traproot Kami
Love this video series Professor! Thank you for putting so much effort into these!
Caustic Caterpillar in a Meren deck is indeed awesome. Now think of the same trick but with Spore Frog. Yup, it's crazy.
I have loved this series. It's helped me diversify my decks a little and bring down my mana curve. 😍
Congrats on finishing this series, im definitely building a Volrath deck with all these cards!
0:10
that’s the only reason I play MTG. To find ridiculous, one-in-a-million synergies that only work once, and cast them on my friends.
It makes playing tryhard combo decks so much more enjoyable.
I hope you find folks who can appreciate your brewing and research.
Folks at my table just run the same Nekusar lists they got online in 2014z
Me with my aura thief and enchanted evening combo
@Comrade Dan my entire playgroup basically does the same thing that I do - we all work together on building each other’s decks. It’s a great experience. One time we spent a whole day and a half brainstorming combos with the new commander death triggers rule. What came out of it were the dumbest two combo decks we’ve ever had the opportunity to brew.
@@VerrouSuo That is positively inspiring.
Verrou at least me and my playgroup aren’t the only ones. All our birthdays are close together so we just all pitch in on a section of the deck like stompy or ramp. Mine is August 31st so I’m wondering what interesting combos my group has come up with this time
yep, only 9 cards. so I'll add a 10th card: Instill Energy, an aura that only costs a G and give the enchanted creature Haste (haste in mono-green?) and gives it an activated ability to freely untap an additional time during your turn. just imagine all the mana you could make untapping your Selvala, Heart of the Wild, or Marwyn the Nurturer. or getting more uses out of your Vannifar, or other Value green creature you may have!
on this note Nature's Chosen is also really nice. specially if you also run white.
Of note for people running Instill Energy, it doesn't technically let you use Tap abilities the first turn. The specific oracle wording is "can attack as though it had haste" , but doesn't let you Vannifar immediately.
@@WhiteWizard42 There are 2 printings that seem to imply it has haste, Masters Edition IV (MTGO only), which explicitly says "Enchanted creature has haste" and Fifth Edition, which says "Enchanted Creature is unnaffected by summoning sickness." However the Oracle text does say "Enchanted creature can attack as though it had haste." So... Maybe Wizards should look at it and clean it up and decide one way or the other.
I would say haste in green as a one drop the way people want it to work is actually Concordant Crossroads. This card was available before Theros:BD for between $15-20. It was only ever printed in Legends and Chronicles. This effects all creatures however even opponent's creatures. While the card is now $40 minimum, it was used in conjunction with Siona Captain of the Pyleas and Shielded by faith for infinite tokens and same turn damage. Instill Energy is heavily talked about because of the bad wording but currently officially it can just attack as thought it had haste and not use activated abilities requiring tapping.
There is tons of haste in monogreen bro.
Excuse me, what is with that intro? I wasn't even greeted - just straight to content!
This is still my favorite MTG channel even after all these years. You keep teaching me and I am always the student. LOVE.
Wow! Elephant grass is going straight into my thantis deck! Thanks prof.
Props for the scout :) They were a key part of my simic evolution deck.
And Magus of the Candelabra goes so well with a Forbidden orchard deck, though I don't think I'll be able to buy mine in paper.
Thanks for this video.
Love your videos Professor! Thank you for the entertainment during these trying times. Also, I am trying to get my LGS to hold Pauper events once this pandemic has calmed down. Thank you for reading this.
Your videos are as much Magic as I can handle these days. Thank you Prof
Magus of the Candelabra is amazing in my enchantress deck that I filled with land enchantment based ramp. Great Card!
Great series! Bittersweet to see it completed. Artifacts/colorless next??
Enjoying the Kafka reference. Great vid :)
Diligent Farmhand! It’s great repeatable ramp if you have recursion.
Didn't know that last elf. It will be a nice inclusion to my Freyalise deck. Thanks, prof!
I actually haven't heard of a lot of these. Thanks prof.
No instill energy? come on prof!
I think copper line scout is the slot for this effect
I believe it was on the "duel" episode of The underplayed Commander cards.
Some of these I did already know about, but there were a few that were new to me and I will definitely have to keep an eye out for them lol
Learned about some very cool and powerful cards, thanks Prof
I love the videos were audible is the sponsor. It’s awesome to get new audio book recommendations from creators with similar interests.
Caustic caterpillar gets a unanimous groan every time I cast it when playing meren. It’s just perfection. In every way.
Finally someone understands the genius behind Caustic Caterpillar! I love it in my graveyard deck and it always does good work!
I also play Copperhorn Scout in my Emmara Vehicles deck, I feel so smart tapping and untapping Emmara multiple times at turn!
Thanks for the video, loved it! That Archer is absurd for a common!
I'm impressed that savage summoning didn't make up the list since you give flash AND a +1/+1 AND can't be countered for 1 mana plus, which helps you combo, put a large threat into player or even remove in instant speed something annoying using like rec sage or some wierd variations of ETB
Well, savage summoning is pretty well known. This was focusing on unknown or lesser known cards.
@@derekmontgomery4695 oh well, depends of the region then because here in Brazil I never see anyone giving a crap to this card and it's absolutely amazing, only misses a draw when cast to make this even more absurd
@@gersonmoura3284 I may be biased, as I play green a lot and I absolutely love this card.
man i watched this just to hear the jam during the audible promo, it's great
I recently built Zo-Zu and I really appreciate the intro. Delightfully Devilish.
Nice Kafka shoutout! My favorite card!
Font of fertility is an enchantment for 🍀 that you can sacrifice for 1🍀 to tutor up a basic land tapped. It's basically like Rampant Growth stapled onto an enchantment. In my opinion it works supremely well in a Korvold deck because you sacrifice Font and Korvold is all about gaining advantage from sacrificing permanents. So in a way Font of fertility acts as a Rampant Growth + draw 1 with Korvold on the field
Yea, but if you aren't running a sacrifite themed deck it's actually better to use rampant growth, nature's lore, kodama's reach, cultivate and things of the like
Thank you so much! I totally forgot about darkest hour, going into my Teysa removal deck
OG Teysa? Just remember it shuts down her removal ability. By overwriting all creatures colors to black (rather than "in addition to" their original colors), you no longer have any white creatures to sacrifice. You really need Painter's Servant for maximum value. Darkest Hour gives infinite sac fodder for something else, though.
yup! have a couple of old elvish herder lying around from back when I first started playing.
One of my favorite one drops in green is Bond Beetle in my Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig deck. He gives Yorvo one +1/+1 counter just from entering and another counter if you choose to put it on Yorvo, but you can give it to anyone else too. Really good value in my opinion.
Instill Energy!!! One of my all time favorite cars, full stop. It happens to also be cheap, underplayed and one green mana. Great video as always.
For Elephant grass, if you have a way of moving counters around you can always move the time counters off of elephant grass in order to keep the cumulative upkeep lower. Or run a card that prevents counters from being added to things.
What's a morning without coffee and a new video by the Prof?
Prof as a brand new commander player, this series is one of your best series of all time. Thank you so much for helping me upgrade my deck on the CHEAP.
Sorry Prof, I wasn't paying attention to your lecture. That shirt+tie combo is too fabulous.
appreciating prof using the correct swords to plowshares art
Love it very informative and fun thanks for sharing
One of my pet cards from time spiral is Greenseeker. As a spellshaper it lets you pay a single green, tap and discard a card to get a basic out of your deck and into your hand(which is the spell lay of the land) each turn.
While large parts of EDH is ramp, just hitting your land drop whenever you need to is pretty good. Also in reanimator decks it lets you pitch a bomb to grab whenever you need.
Finally, art by Rebecca Guay is always a win.
I've waited so long for this video! I love this cycle of videos with 1-cost cards.
but ehh, prof. I feel like you need to make a video about Mental Misstep now...
Great video! Super interesting!
Love the 1 Mana series, would be amazing if you could do one more for colorless cards! Or maybe a 2 mana series :)
A one mana card i really like is “Hidden Spider“.
Its a one mana enchantment that turns into a 3/5 green spider with reach when an enemy casts a creature with flying.
Being able to block flyers is always something green struggels with and this one gives you a pretty beefy body on top of it.
Concordant crossroads has caught many of my opponents off guard in my Selvala deck. People just don't expect the 1 mana mass haste enabler in green
Mass hysteria would probably catch them with their pants down too lol
I want that for my Selvala deck so badly. Biggest issue with the deck is having 40 power on board by turn 4-5, then having to wait to attack. You become the biggest target in the interim. Sadly, the legends one is too pricy and my ocd won’t allow a white bordered one.
I think it's funny that you can tell by comparing Prof's ads on different products how much he actually likes each of them.
Dude I absolutley love this channel. I've always been lazy with my due diligence because its always so dry and tedious pouring through cards/databases looking for upgrades but you provide amazing advice and in a fun video format to boot. Keep it up, love this shit my dude. My Omanth deck is about to get a Magus of the candelabra to make him, nyx land, and doubling cube do WORK. Its the perfect card to replace my Boreal Druid. Sure, i might lose any slight benefit of having another elf out (theres an elf subtheme to the deck) but this will outweigh the downside big time
Ulvenwald Tracker, Veil of Autumn, Hapatra's Mark, Ranger's Guile, Sixth Sence...
There are a lot of intresting choises, depending on strategy.
I actually have an experience recommending a 1 CMC green spell to a new player. He'd picked up the Kalamax precon and was unhappy that he was having so much trouble tapping his commander to get benefits. So I suggested he run Giant Growth. He'd only just started playing and hadn't really thought about using combat tricks yet, and seeing his face light up when I explained his commander would get +6/+6 and a counter for a measly one green mana, that certainly brightened his day.
i like Gaea's touch from the Dark, helpful midgame^^
I'm so glad that you included elephant grass because I run it in my muldrotha deck and I feel like that card is overlooked too often. My playgroup hates when I put it down even more than if I play propaganda or ghostly prison.
Did I miss something or were there only 9 cards? 🤔
Me too, i am confused
🤔
i noticed that too
@Nick Fanchette I think we all, as students of TCC, should demand a tuition reimbursement for this clearly unacceptable oversight!
The one you missed is so underplayed and overlooked Prof forgot it in the video.
Wait these cards are awesome! Thanks professor!
In CMDR mono-green I do well with combining cards like Sedge Scorpion, Narnam Renegade, Gnarlwood Dryad, Wasteland Viper, Moss Viper and other small deathtouch creatures with fight cards like Ulvenwald Tracker and Prey Upon.
Shout out for a two Mana enchantment compost, it draws you so many cards that if you are playing against a player who uses black cards and even milling and casts will get you a draw once the cards hit the grave does accrew value incredibly fast.
Also super budget too!
i picked scattershot archer + some common equipment that gives deathtouch during my booster draft years ago, and its the mvp for that day
Krosan Wayfarer. Great early ramp, and graveyard recursion shenanigans
Some nice tech cards thanks
Ifyou make a video that is only sponsor ads, it still watch it. You are so entertaining
I bought an old collection from my professor who happened to have a good few of these cards, which I think is pretty cool
Shout outs to some of my favorite green one drops, frog tongue, and instill energy.
The former provides a decent way to deal with creatures, while drawing you cards to dig deeper into your deck. It synergizes especially well with enchantress builds.
Instill energy, on the other hand, provides a keyword that green can greatly benefit from, as well as giving a nice, once per turn cycle, untap. Allowing you to get the most out of creatures with tap abilities, like Yissan, the wanderer bard, or just attack and block with large creatures. You barely see this card get played, but I think it's a must have for decks like, Uril the mist stalker, where you can attack with him on the turn you play him, and untap him to use as a blocker.
I'm a huge fan of "Insist", "Instill Energy", and "Vitalize"
Nature's Chosen too, even in monogreen. And Mobilize. almost as good as Vitalize. And Benefactor's Draught which costs 1 more but cantrips and could draw more cards.
I’ve been thinking I needed to put some untap abilities into my Wort deck! Looks like Copperhorn Scout just found a new home
I'm going defiantly taking out some lands for these
"it's a free book Jim!" got me to click the link. That was a beautifully used reference.
your shill-out music always cracks me up
18:26 that audio glitch scared the crap out of me
Worldly Tutor, though it is an obvious choice. Lifegift is fun if you are playing a lot of ramp or have a Landfall heavy theme.
I have been really impressed by Irresistible Prey in mono green. For those unfamiliar:
{G} Sorcery: Target creature must be blocked this turn if able. Draw a card.
Green struggles with creature removal, so if you often have early burly attackers, an effective Diabolic Edict that cantrips is a pretty great. In case you can't really use it, it just cycles for {G}.
My favorite lately has been Permeating Mass :)
I've enjoyed this series!
Someone in my Playgroup plays meren. Everytime i play my artifact/enchantment heavy Oloro Deck he drops the caterpillar on turn 1. We almost always become arch-enemies. Great card!
I really liked this series. I hope you continue it with multicolored and colorless cards. Then, do it again with 2 mana cards, 3 mana cards, etc.
For your consideration: Traverse the Ulvenwald, Hexdrinker, Chatter of the Squirrel, Sylvan Safekeeper & Treefolk Harbinger
Thanks for the great content
Just getting into commander thnx for the help, still prefer 60 card formats though
Copperhorn Scout is one of the best cards in my Ezuri, Renegade Leader deck. Pump up each elf, then attack. And since CS is an elf, Ezuri can regenerate it so after taking out an opponent, I'm ready to get the next.
I already have audible but good sponsor plug great product.
My favorite 1 mana green spell is manabond because dumping lands at end step is great
11:11 is my new alarm sound
But
Liking for the ZZ Packer recommendation.
The most overlooked card:
Insane stats (6/6, nothing can be bigger)
Low mana cost (6 mana is nothing in commander)
Relevant ability ensuring your opponents can't hide behind chump blockers (Trample)
If you didn't guess by now, it's our lord and savior :
C O L O S S A L D R E A D M A W
Let's just hope they reprint it soon.
I fully agree also forgot onething: looks great in foil!
Dont mind me just playing my 11/11 eldrazi titan with a 10 any colour cost with easie ramp and board braking capabylitys, but hey ho

I work at a local game store that’s also a cafe. Trying to suppress the urge to play the Prof saying 2:30 “I cannot recommend drinking coffee elsewhere” on a loop in the store. (Yes, conveniently trimmed.)
Man, imagine being a 10 year lit professor, obviously getting an opinion on various literary works, then having a super successful CZcams channel and being able to make recommendations for books an audible. That's gotta be a cool feeling.
Magus of the Candelabra + Maze of Ith + any land that taps for 3 or more = infinite mana, albeit only during combat. You attack with the Magus, untap it with the maze, use it to untap maze and, say, Lotus Field, untap it with maze again, rinse repeat. Good trick if you've got mono-green Omnath out.
Since we only got nine cards, The Professor's tenure application is technically incomplete and therefore officially denied :)
Magus of the Candelabra is super strong. He mentioned Maze of Ith and he mentioned Lotus Field but he didn't mention that Maze can untap an attacking Magus to go infinite with say, Lotus Field, or any land that taps for at least 3 mana.
It does great work in my mono-green Golos deck going infinite with Maze of Ith or with Wirewood Lodge if I have Runed Stalactite equipped to Magus.
In a monocolor deck it pairs nicely with Nissa Who Shakes the World. Or any forest doubling effects like Vernal Bloom. Goes very nicely with Nyxbloom Ancient too.
His activated ability isn't a mana ability, so Rings of Brighthearth does well with it. (Rings is also very nice with Deserted Temple which is very nice with a lot of the same things Magus wants). It's also doubled by Unbound Flourishing or Illusionist Bracers. When you double the effect you can target all the same lands and tap them in between abilities resolving.
Green Sun's Zenith can find him for just 2 mana total.
Thousand Year Elixir gives him pseudohaste and an extra untap.
He goes really well with land enchantments which aren't being run as much as they should, they are very abusable! Wild Growth, Utopia Sprawl, Fertile Ground, Wolfwillow Haven, Overgrowth, Dawn's Reflection, Market Festival, etc etc.
All of these cards also pair well with another 1 drop underplayed green card that I was just sure he'd mention but he didn't: Urban Burgeoning. Play it! it's so good!
With my Shrine to Nykthos in my Omnath Ramping Deck, I can see how the candelabra would just create infinite mana, explaining why it's Six Hundred and Fifty Dollars; Yipes. I had looked at the magus before, but I was putting together a tiny leaders deck so I had to keep it thin with only 50 cards.
I actually just snagged me an Elephant Grass recently while supporting my LGS! :)
