- Willie, Sarah and their dogs Jack Spaniels & new puppy, Nori continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the Skye Lifers are getting the tools back out, with planters to be made and boat renovations to be completed before we can take her back out on the open sea!
Plus Willie takes you on the first forage of the year - into the woodland for a bounty of wild garlic and we celebrate Nori's six month birthday!
Thanks for watching & see you in the next video!

Sarah, Willie, Jack & Nori x
how much land did the property come with when you guys bought it?
Hi my mother is obsessed with you guys and she really wants a pair of Sarah's boots, any chance I can get the make so I can get a pair for her birthday please 🙏
@@jackkelsall6926Iv often wondered about Sarah’s boots as they look really good!
What a dynamic couple. Your DIY (do it yourself) attitude to overcome challenges and make items you want is outstanding. Loved Jack the hurdler.
Hi everyone. Best time on a Sunday here again. Thanks Willie, Sarah, Jack and Nori xx
I swear my heart rate lowers when you guys are on my screen thank you xxxx
Aww that’s so lovely haha!
Boat looks great! Flower boxes will be lovely. Your puppers are filled with mischief and fun!
I pick wild garlic for our pork pie business, down in North Norfolk. One of our neighbours run a wild flower reserve in a wood, with a chalk stream running through. Perfect wild garlic habitat. They’ve very kindly given me permission to pick over at least the last decade, so like you I’m really careful to pick “my” patch sustainably so that there’s plenty when I come back next year.
Sounds like a wonderful place!
I think red was a great choice! My husband retired from the US Coast Guard, flew a lot of searches looking for boats/ships that were in distress and had been called into the USCG Base. We lived on the island of Kodiak, Alaska for 4yrs. Lots of salmon fishing, crabbing, lots of eagles, Kodiak bears. We loved it!
I loved the viDeo. The red over the whitde kinda reminds of a pokemon ball...LOL
Boat looks great, good choice on the red. The raised planter is awesome, the four will be wonderful for growing. Thanks Willie, Sarah and the boys!
Spoiler Alert!!!
No surprise now!
Top tip! In addition to getting a compost bin (we make black gold too) in the Autumn and after a storm, go and fill a few feed bags with sea weed and top dress the beds with about 2" and leave all winter. It will take a while to rot down but our raised beds veg love it and its free!
Great idea..sounds rich dirt enhancement.
That’s what made lazy beds work so well.
You have done a wonderful job on the boat and a red cabin is very sensable for being seen at sea if you should be unfortunate to get in to difficulties. Love to see you foraging but disappointed I have to wait till next week to see what ou make. Thanks for another lovely Sunday early evening of good old fashioned entertainment. Happy 6 month little Nori, not so little now.xx and love to Jack and all of you. Good old Richard lending you his tools.
Nori is SOOO cute he's a lovely little dog who has grown so much, love him. Not forgetting that other really handsome Jack Spaniels. The boat looks very smart indeed, a great job well done Willie and Sarah.
Happy Sunday everyone ❤
Happy 6 months, Nori! Lucky little guy, a loving family and a beautiful home!
Hello Willie, Sarah, Jack Spaniels, and Nori. I enjoyed this weeks video. Thank you for the entertainment.
I didn't know wild garlic liked to grow in such wet conditions. I'm glad to see you and Sarah are so conscious about not taking too much, but very good conservationists. Lovely to be so close to such a beautiful area. Thanks for sharing.
Hi y’all!! Happy 6th month birthday Nory. Love the red contrast on the boat. Can almost smell the wild garlic!!!
Absolutely love the red color y’all choose for the boat. The windows look super duper as well. Nicely done! The natural landscape of the bush there is just beautiful. Despite the dismal weather at times, it is a truly beautiful place you’ve decided to live. Walking amid the lush forest, nearly every frame of your video was so picturesque. I can’t wait to see what springtime and summer adventures await! I’m hopeful there’ll be some metal detecting and mudlarking on your recently acquired permissions as the weather continues to improve; and maybe there’ll be some opportunities for beach walks on some little islands around the area for beach combing, too, putting the boat to good use on some remote marine outcrops not accessible by other means. Wherever your adventures take us, I can’t wait to see how your story unfolds. Thank you for taking us all along with you ❤
Thanks so much Christopher!!
Somehow missed this episode first time around so felt like an extra treat. You are both so suited for life on Skye as you are so resourceful. That wild garlic looked so beautiful - and plentiful. The boat looks fabulous!
Wow, your boat looks utterly amazing, fabulous job Willie and Sarah! i love your wonderful planters too, you are both so very industrious, I love it, and you and the wee doggies!❤🌻❤xxxx
AH....Scotland Sunday. Scotland on a shoestring, and Living the Skye Life.....greetings from Canada.
Ohhh I don’t know of Scotland on a shoestring will check them out!
@@thehighlandlife2023they’re really good - I’m sure you’ll enjoy them 😊
Try This Scottish Isle
Loved all of that, the boat looks great in red, and as for the planters maybe white would go green in the wet damp atmosphere...Jack surprised us all by jumping straight over the planter, twice too..
Hi Will, Sarah and the dogs.
My partner Hannah and me together with our mad Wire Haired Dachschund have been watching you for a while now and absolutely love your videos and chats. Just wanted to thank whoever posted "Caamp" song "No Sleep" on your recent post.. always great to be introduced to a fantastic laid back band. Hope life is wonderful up there and you are battened down for the tourist onslaught.
We'll be up in Ardnamurchan in August, can't wait.
David & Hannah, and Peanut the Dachs!
Ahh thanks so much!! Hope you have an amazing trip
The planters turned out to look really cool! Great job, Willie. I am impressed with what the two of you can accomplish.
Sarah, I just received a beautiful bday gift from my mum of the Skye Life Cottage painting ! Was such a buzz getting one of your pieces as a gift, I’m such a fan of you guys and your art. I love it so much and it will be hung in my kitchen for all to see 😍
Aww amazing so glad you like it 😊
Another lovely video from Skye! As you were building the planters my eye was drawn to watching the sheep in the field across from your cottage. Thank you so much for your videos- I so enjoy them.
A Gram from MO.
Ah we love the sheep! Especially all the lambs at this time of year 🥹
The red looks fantastic on the boat. Love it!
I think red was a great choice for the boat and the new windows look fantastic! Those raised beds are lovely but I would put a few drill holes in the bottom for the water to drain. Jack can certainly clear those raised beds. Nori Happy 6 months did you get a nice bone? Another beautiful video Sarah and Willy. Have a lovely week till the next one.
Nori got a trip to the amazing beaches of the Outer Hebrides. And a biscuit of course!
The boat looks brilliant and so does the planters
Love the colour of the boat. The planters look really great, cannot wait to see what you plant xx
Must be nice to finally feel like you've planted yourself in Skye Life cottage. 😉
On Skye now and the bluebells and primroses are beautiful, the garlic is abundant
It’s beautiful isn’t it?
Your boat looks really sharp. good choice on the color. love you guys. Watching is my relaxing time. also makes me smile. I do miss Dirty Secrets of
Scotland. I used to go find treasures many years ago. I miss that too. Thanks for making me smile....
I found it grows in the eastern and southern U.S. and Ontario Canada. We are not suppose to harvest or sell it. Its called Ramps (Allium Tricoccum) here. the native Americans and Appalachian people use it for medicine. You may not wanted this info, but its just FYI. You guys are just the sweetest couple.
Planters look great looking forward to see what you grow
Wow boat colour is stunning will stand out while at sea good vlog thank you ❤❤🐾🐾
Absolutely wonderful! The Red Looks perfect....The Boat has an expression now...
Congratulatiobs Nori! He will be a big spaniel...
Well done with those percect planters!
Jack is so funny jumping clean over them!
Gorgeous! And your superb View! THAT LIGHT on the Loch! Exceptional!
Looks pretty spiffy there, Willie. I like the planters too. What about a few holes in the side to plant some Strawberries.
When I lived on a farm in Scotland we had cows and when they ate the wild garlic the milk would taste of garlic! Cool paint job.
Garlic milk might be taking it too far…🤣
An especially lovely video, thank you. You can tell from his eyes how Nori has come from a nervous and uncertain new arrival to a member of the pack. It's wonderful how your family specifically includes Jack and Nori. And the boat repairs look great; Richard is getting competition for expert handyman (and handiwoman!)
I have to say, though, that for some reason the idea of jumping out of an airplane with a bedsheet tied to my back was much more agreeable to me than sailing on the ocean in a tiny little boat. I was never a fan of the water so joining the Navy when I was young was never an option. While your boat looks lovely, Sarah's dry-land boating adventure looked like a lot more fun!
Your Boat is looking new, great job you Two!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ has Ponyo toy boat vibes 😻😍😍😍😍😍
What a lot of time and effort you two put into producing a outstanding weekly vlog. The timelapse pictures of Nori growing, alone takes ages to produce
Understand the need for the red boat paint, Orange would have been my preference.
Planters could be painted with the St Andrew's cross Scotland flags, only an idea.
Keep filming busy bees 🐝
Thanks so much!!
Sarah you should paint the beautiful primroses. I two love garlic Nory is gettin very big he is cute
Love the colour Willie 😊
Boat makeover looking awesome! Red, my favorite color! The planters look great against Skye Life Cottage - can’t wait to see finished results. Nori - my how you have grown! Such a handsome boy❤. Jack - handsome as always💙
The red looks awesome !!!!!
Always enjoy my Sunday evening fix.
👍🏼Good job on the boat and the plant boxes.
full marks, again(!), for planters and boat restoration! both look fabulous and suggest that should this vlogging about Skye not quite work out (not a chance!), you have a future as either horticulturists or shipwrights!!! looking forward to seeing the completed planters soon! cheers!
The boat is looking very sharp and being able to see out the windows is safer as well ...great job on the planters/hurdles...I didn't know his name was Jack Mick fly...happy 6 months Nori ...Karl from eastern Canada
The color of the sea in the intro - stunning!!! And the color of the boat - chef’s kiss!!! And yay for planters and growing good things! ❤️❤️❤️
Very patriotic red, white, blue 😉
Great work this week 😊 you did an amazing job on the windows 👍 your boat is looking fab 🎉
Oh my goodness the boat looks beautiful. The color is perfect. It will be so exciting to take her out soon. Yayyy for homegrown veges! And sweet Nori is already 6 months. How wonderful.
You young ones are amazing….you can turn your hand to anything. Planters, boat, windows …. All looking super and thanks for sharing 🏴xx
Rather than a single compost bin or heap consider having 2-3 that you can rotate. When turning a standard heap to aerate it, be aware that standing on it might cause your wellies to melt from the heat that builds up inside and don't be too surprised if that heat also makes it a popular hibernation spot for garden critters like hedgehogs and toads
Yes, agree!
I love the colour of the boat. Thats what you call a beacon colour. I love the 6mth timeline of Nori pictures. He is such a cutie. Those planters are cool & sturdy. I think a nice rustic looking paint job & a different colour using the white of the cottage as a backdrop. I enjoy watching your foragers & the beauty of the scenery. Have a good week guys.
Well done once again to you both on working on your boat. Love the red, good colour for safety reasons as well as pretty. The planters will be great too when you’re finished and have food growing. Who knew Jack was such an athlete, leaping over the planters, well done to him too. Happy 1/2year to Nori. 🎂
Love the colour of your boat
The Nori six months montage is too cute 🥹
Boat looks great, and happy 6 months to adorable Nori. ❤
We need smell-o-vision! I love the smell of garlic. What a wonderful place you guys live, Willie, Sarah and the fur babies
You really are an industrious pair...so much energy...ah!...to be young again...love your home building you make such a good job of whatever you turn your hand to...thanks for the heads-up for what is to be revealed next week...red is such a good choice...big hugs to the pups😁🌠
Norries white droopy whiskers are too cute ❤
The boat and the planters look great, and happy half birthday Nori, big love to you all x
Please take us back to that glorious wood when the bluebells are out, what a beautiful place
The boat looks amazing, can’t believe Norrie is 6 months already ❤
What is going to prevent your children from jumping from ground to bench to plant for a we bit of veggies? Jack did show off his acrobatic skills.
Finishing options for the planters.
1 - Stain to match the benches
2 - White paint to blend into the house
3 - Whitewash
Have you thought of making a worm garden?
Great job on the boat.
Ahahaha spaniel proof fences have been necessary 🤣
plus get a cover for cabin so the sun doesnt damage the new windows when its on land
Happy 6 months Nori!!
*Howdy Sarah, Willie, Jack & Nori 🙂 Willie good colour on the top of the boat. I painted my old canoe (that I no longer have) bright orange, so it too could be seen from about. 🙂 People laughed when I painted it orange... until I explained why! It is amazing how many white boats are out there on the seas, lakes or rivers. 🙂 Happy 6 months to young Nori.... and naughty Norti for trying to hump his human mama Sarah.*
Love the babbling brook where the wild garlic is, such a lovely sound. :-)
YES you are so right. Lovely music!! Maybe willie can record those sounds and intersperse them thruout a song he writes called Babbling Brook.
Yes you are RIGHT..Lovely wonderful sound! Thought so also. BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. Maybe Willie can record the sounds and intersperse them thruout a song he writes called BABBLING BROOK.
Repurpose those old windows as a wee greenhouse for the fall and spring!
Smart!
hi , thanks again, another great video
Happy 6 month birthday Nori. The boat looks excellent with red paint and new windows. Looking forward to the planters being finished and your garden getting planted.
I would paint the garden growing boxes black. It would match the roof and black will help absorb the sun to keep the soil warm for growing. Your boat is coming along great. Good luck this season on catching all the yummy things.
Wow 🎉 looks a very brand new boat nicely done to 😍🚤❤️ .
I like the plant box you made looking forward to seeing the lovely mixed herbs & veg in your plant box 🌱🌾🌿🥬🥦🥕 🐶🐾🦴🥰
I think the wild garlic your foraging for is what we in the Appalachian area of the southeast US call Ramps. They are absolutely wonderful in spring. We harvest only leaves to so there will more next spring.
Yes they are the same plant by a different name 😊
You made such a terrific job in detailing your boat. I love the color. Thanks for another great video. 🌷🌿🐕🇺🇸
Great color choice! Looks lovely, well done to you both, and happy half-birthday, Nori.
Done a great job painting and new windows on your boat but it would be nice if Sarah did some great art work on either the inside or outside the boat.
Boat looks great 😊
Boat looks great!
I never expected red but it makes sense for safety reasons. Well done, sir!
Wow, I guessed right on red. Great job on the boat. Hope your planters turned out great. Same boat, lol planters this year. Good luck.
The planters look great!!. I vote white, to blend into the cottage. The veggies will add the greenery 😊
Springer spaniels will spring!
Future project, weld a drag for maintaining that bloody driveway.
Boat ✅
Boat looks great x
You two are always there for each other even though the task may not be your most favorite thing to do......that's what love is. I 've often wondered what it would be like to live in a semi isolated rural setting....you two are so brave.
A lot of shovelling!!
Like you said it looks really cool good job very nice 👍love the red
Just love your vlogs , many thanks guys
Thanks so much!!
Love the red on the boat! What a great job. Can't wait to see what you grow in the planters you are building. Happy 6 month birthday, Nori!❤
Check out self watering/wicking beds could help your garden grow.
Red really cool
Stain the planters like your benches.
Busy times for you two as usual. Happy for spring and a return to your foraging outings. Looking forward to seeing what veg you grow. I’m making my plans here but planting is a few weeks off yet.
Looks great xxxx
Love the planting boxes and the red boat! Very much enjoy seeing how you both work together to complete various projects.
6 months already? Happy 6th months Nori.
Boat and planters are all BELTERS!! Nice work on it all, Jack and Jill of all trades. 🙂
