- Professional fire pilot and all around good guy Tyler Gillaspie gives us a walk around and demo flight in his beautifully restored 1946 Globe Swift. Tyler's dad restored the aircraft and implemented several STCs and field approvals to make this Globe Swift a truly one of a kind airplane.

Ive flown the 85hp swift, the 125, 145, the only one i know of with the 150 which set a speed record in Tennessee, and one with a 220 Franklin.
Each one was special. None were bad or second class. The 150 had the slots deleted. I think the Tennessee trip was around 1980 or so.
The yokes are my preference because thats how they came out.
The rudder travel is relatively large. A cushion may be required for some people to reach full travel.
The 65 horse swift i flew was owned by a guy named Gus, who was 6'6".
My dad taught him to fly in that airplane. That meant two adults in the summer heat. The propeller control was quite simple🙂
As i said, any of the powerplants worked fine, but truthfully, it really needs about 400horses🤗
What a beautiful plane!
Nice video....Such a beautiful bird always liked them...I had a Maule MX7-235 for 15 years great plane too...My other half is wanting a C195...lol
The Globe Swift = The poor man's P-51D 🙂
Good stuff.
Pilot, hockey fan, cool!
Beautiful!, very nice inst. panel, sounds great too! The approach looked a little shallow imo, nice landing though.
Belo vídeo!!
😮
I want a ride!
That’s what she said
I prefer the 2 wing option myself 🤣
Me too, prefer one on each side.😀
Safford woo hoo
Did you mean fixed pitch prop...lol...its speed is constant when you want it to be....lol
Too bad that this plane has had all these expensive mods and it still has its original C-145 engine.
And the dihedral in the tail is a fashion statement more than a design consideration. The lead designer at Globe liked the dihedral in the tail of the Douglas A-26 Invader, so he was inspired to copy that for the Swift.
BTW, I owned N78274 for seven years. 2012 to 2019. It has the Lyc 180HP engine with CS prop....and a number of other mods. But, it did not have the slider canopy.
Changing the engine would require an STC and would be very expensive and time consuming.
@@ohwell2790 Indeed, I'm well aware of that. I owned a Swift for seven years.
And BTW, many of the mods on this particular Swift required STCs or field mods--all of which were expensive. My point is: why spend so much money (such as on the sliding canopy) when there is a paltry 145 hp engine out front with a fixed pitch prop?
@@lonzo61I own 78279
