All sorts of stuff to enjoy in this. Cheers from GC Australia.
feel like I stumbled onto the bydanjohnson channel 😄 glad you're covering this! I do appreciate the attention being paid towards 4 cycle engines.
Well... I would consider that a compliment. Dan is a legend. 🙂
The aero light looks fun. I had a challenger ultralight, it wasn’t legal.. the previous owner missed the window to get an n number. I got it for $600. I loved it. My himax was a blast too. That cost totaled at $4500. I had a ridge runner…. Like the badlands. It was fun. But no more fun than the other two…. But about 60 times the cost.
it does, wonder what the glide ratio is.?
Excellent stuff bro
Great video!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is why I won't put remote ID on any of my home built drones.
Thank you for the video.
Wow! Nice content! Thanks!
I liked badland and marlin , number 4 with low wing config is just to scary for so light plane - im right?
Good run down
I thought the video title was talking to me until I heard the prices.
Flying is unfortunately quite expensive. You can still build or buy cheaper aircraft if you shop around. Also that Legal Eagle is pretty cheap and anyone can afford that.
In Europe these are called "trikes". The word "ultralight" over here means something a two seater aircraft allowing up to 650 kg MTOW, a comfy heated cabin with adjustable seats, full instrumentation, large fuel tanks in the wings, retractable landing gears and cross-Europe range capacity. No speed limit. Both trikes and ultralights however require a national UL-pilot's license.
Awesome channel
En donde puedo estudiar esa actividad?. Lo más cerca de México.
I love the last one
What are some websites for finding used ultralights in the US?
And Highlander makes a beautiful part 103 aircraft...
NC, Walhalla
My dream
Walhalla, SC
Are you allowed to carry more than 5 gallons of fuel, if it is just in a tank not connected to the fuel system, or it is only 5 gallons on the aircraft period?
No because it would exceed ultralight weight limits.
5gal only, plane can't be over 254lbs
Make a video about the SkyPup.
What would be the insurance cost for a Legal Eagle? Or any of the others?
Has anyone studied using the BMW oil-cooled flat two cylinder motorcycle engine? The 1200cc version as found in the BMW R1200R/RS/RT is electric start, electronic ignition and digital fuel-injected that makes around 100 HP and has a separate dry clutch and transmission that can be easily deleted. Perhaps the push-rod engine can be tuned to directly drive a prop at a reasonable RPM.
Im putting a 750cc V4 Honda motorcycle engine on my first one, all aluminum, enough rpm, horse power and torque. I just recently got into this with the local club here in my town and i am digging these types of aircraft.
Why not just get the Nissan I3 -Turbo that weighs under 90kg and pushes 400HP
Am curious; where in the FARs is the word "license" used?
I wish we had the same rules up here in Canada. it cost the same as a license in the US. cheapest place i seen for a basic private license was $7000 Canadian.
Which is the cheapest place
Love the last one looks kinda like Draco Mike Patty’s plane he is rebuilding as a bush plane!!
Could you make a video plane ✈️ full body diameter ❤
Wings 🪽 , body & weight & poplar diameter❤
If you have a private pilots lic... can you n number it, put on a larger gas tank?
One can build an experimental aircraft even if he isn't a certified pilot, but there are conditions ti be met.
I met one fellow who equated 'No License Required' = 'No Training Required'. FOOL! He bought his ultra light, fueled it, lined up on the runway, and rolled left to the bushes (No idea what the rudder did), 'Fred Flintsoned' back out and tried again. Same Result, right? Spot on, same result! Third is the charm, he figures he's got it. This time he gets about 20 feet into the air, veers left again, into the tree tops, and drops tail first to the runway in a crash. No injuries, but a large hit in the wallet.
I spent 7 years building a foam/fiber glass UL that flew perfectly from the start and was comparatively quick and agile but I doubt I'd have lived without first taking lessons to solo. First flight I made the flattest full speed wide turns possible and landed at speed without flaring. I literally couldn't stand after landing and sat on the wing root with my arms crossed until I calmed down. After about 50 hours I sold it because they're very boring except take off and landings and light wing loading makes for very bumpy rides and they stop flying pretty fast without enough speed. Point is solo should be required.
How long until someone claims FAA ultralight weight limits are fat-phobic?
I’m thinking the Gov will soon decide it’s too much freedom and squash the ultralight class of AC
here in Europe we just dream about such a possibility.
You left out Earthstar Gull series of airplanes.
So much for ultralight being inexpensive. You can buy an airworthy certified aircraft for less. I know, because that’s what I did.
i dont understand why so many of these ultralights DO NOT put doors and windows on them. I mean with carbon fiber and things like that they could EASILY enclose the cabin, it would only need to be enough to block the wind but not so thick as to block any noise.
Some are enclosed
Or you could just dress appropriately.
Yep, the Badlands for me. That's just a little tiny plane
You look so cool when you fly~~
I don't understand how all of these aircraft qualify for this category. Especially with tail dragger and low-wing models, as those are tough to taxi, fly and land even for private pilots. What is the difference, really, between a couple of these and a Cub or a 150?
A Cessna 150 won't break in half in a hard landing.
KOLB ALL THE WAY>>>
Yeah? Do you have one? Building one?
Ty for the great videos. Can anyone compare firefly to aerolight- ease of handling, risk for stall/spin,etc?
🙏 With great respect to All Sides , in many countries , even to own a high performance RC Drone needed a license by their respective Aviation Authority to held those pilots accountable in case of accidents involving injuries or deaths or when hitting other planes or buildings! 🕯🌏✌
Why oh why didn't Just aircraft put the 103solo on the market?! 😢... Signed 107 builder
This... is a very good question. We were all teased with the concept of the Solo by "Top Rudder" yet it never came to market.
I'm thinkin they probably "Just" don't have time (no pun intended) ha! Steve Henry has been selling too many Highlanders!
I would venture they still might if they get somewhat caught up one day. Idk just conjecture on my part.. oof I did it again! ;)
and yet its the ONE ultralight in MSFS besides the aerolite. Talk about hype... they _really_ need to release it.
still out of my range..dang it
Seriously I'm also want to building by private...aircraft plane at first how to starting and doing ??? 🤔 need to make docunents or permit first in government???
You can do brain surgury without a license but its not a good idea
You left out the best ULA. The Phantom X1
Are they still making them?
@@CTLanni Yes, they are still making them.
How do people learn how to fly these things if it has only one seat? The fact that you can fly without any license in these airplane is a bit scary for me... I'm CFI and CFII and I find it a bit challenging every time I fly a new airplane.
Well build a goldwing quicksilver and various other ultralights the dutch reichslufhart dienst forbids vfr flight looking at a ll these yankees and russkie freighters cheers einst
How is it not mandatory that it has a parachute I case of engine failure? 😳
you land it, like a glider. Parachute is a bit of a gimmick.
Gimmick? You're only gonna get one chance to test that hypothesis 😂@@philgee6901
thumbs up on most of the content....except the music
No license required passage to an early grave GET TRAINING DO IT RIGHT
It's actually DeLand Florida, NOT Delan
Just don't be like Denver and not be sure about fuel...before take off.
you don't have a clue what you are talking about...
A.K.A., Doctor Killers
2nd plane, $45K and you have a freaking $6 steam from amazon??
great a MANED aircraft that need NO government “hall”pass to fly.
but if you have a toy drone you need the faa approval schooling as well as insurance to play with it.
Looks like fun, but isn't at least part of the point of getting a license is to help not kill yourself?
Part 103 Ultralight not required to get a license. We... highly recommended transition training and flight training however before flying ANYTHING.
not a fan of the music while narrating.
An we are not a fan of "Dead Silence" and speaking over it. It is very hard to pleas all 160k Subscribers at once for sure. But... we do TRY. Are you watching on phone/tablet, computer, TV or TV with Surround Sound?
@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel Watching on a laptop and using headphones. I know, today isn't the day I'm going to get pleased and tomorrow isn't looking too good for me either.
You have always had background music for the intros and when listing sponsors but this video the volume and choice of music competed with your voice and was for the entire video. There were times when my attention was being drawn to the beat rather than your words.
I've enjoyed the other 416 videos you have produced so far and look forward to more but this single video was audibly to busy.
@@todmus8433 NOTED. Thank you for your positive delivery of feedback.
@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel wasn’t so much the music for me, just a few of the tracks were a little loud and was distracting for the info being given. Thanks for making content!
You are NOT allowed to carry a passenger unless you have a private pilots license
You are only allowed to risk your Own neck, not anyone else
Right, the 2 Seater option is more for those that have a private pilot or sport pilot license
Videonuzu ilgi ile izliyorum.
Ama dilinizi anlamıyorum.
Videonuzu Türkçe dublajlı bir halde yayınlarsanız memnun olurum.
Saygılarımla...
Much to expensive!
what about us poor folks who would love to fly one of these? Not everyone can afford it. Is there a salution for that?
Build from plans. A little at a time. Eventually you will have an entire Airplane. A few companies still offer plans and you can learn to do most things yourself ("Scratch Building" or "Plans Building" we call it).
@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel I am good at building for sure
No license needed but it comes with a coffin ⚰️
These are cute and no license required. You had better pre-purchase a gift certificate at your local funeral home because that is where you will go after trying to fly them.
Alternate title: Top 5 ways to spend tens of thousands of dollars on slow, underperforming aircraft that will bore you within a couple of months and have no resale value.
Seeing your username you probably shouldn't be flying at all there, bud.
!
This is the way AMERICA should be. NO LICENSE. But people continue to waive their rights. Nice sharing
@@Navy1977 even more disturbing is our own military for not stepping in and eliminating all the crookedness brought on the citizens. Military was put into place to protect the citizens not crooked government. Even they have been bribed by crooked politicians
If a liscence means training and safety....don't crash into my family please, we have a right to that too! 😅 freedom without laws is anarchy!
The AMERICA you would like to live in sounds like death race 2000. No thanks.
@@timothyletwin5911 that’s because you enjoy waiving your rights, the constitution protects you not crooked government. Liberal born every day
So your saying according to the constitution you have the right to do absolutely anything? America's constitution only works if there are laws. Do you believe you should be able to fly a Cessna 172 without a licensee?@@SECRETCREEKPROSPECTING1776
bad bad bad idea to try and fly a plane with no license
Thanks for the training warning. Flying one of these planes without training, certification or similar seems foolish and irresponsible.
All of them are way over priced IMO
@@Navy1977 We will just chalk it up to Bidenomics Inflation Bubble :)
Yes, as are ALL GA aircraft too. Cost has gotten wildly out of control, but so has everything in our corrupt economy.
@@groachslayer Yep its all phony fiat money with absurd interest rates...good time in history to free yourself of all debt
Well, if you can't afford a new one, look for a used one.
Yeah. When you buy an automobile you have a well engineered solid thing and when you buy a bicycle or motorcycle you have the same too. But in case of aircraft you take something weird and hopeless for the high price😅
But it is hand made and the main part of price is developement
there are no licenses for anything in our Union a license in legal terms is a lien and we're supposed to have unalienable rights but anyway good video I love it.
As a Type I diabetic this is perfect. Thanks, great video.
What?
@marcd1981 Type 1 diabetics cannot get a pilots license.
Eh?
imo those aren't in the afford bracket for something you will use about as much as that exercise bike in the basement , can fly them in about zero wind anything more they won't go fast enough to escape your wife screaming to cut the grass you lazy !@#$%% , for that money you could buy a small sailboat ,food, drink , and as long as she can't swim far you will never mow again 🙂 , show something a guy can build on the sly in the shed in a couple of months that will take him his dog , booze , camping fishing stuff about 500 miles north for what you got hid in the toolbox an you got something to talk about 🤣
I worked aviation ground support. Once a mini Piper Cub with a 1/2 VW engine broke its tail wheel off on landing. It looked like it was bolted to a piece of 2x4.
We went out on a golf cart, put the tail on the back, and held on while we towed it in. A week later, it was fixed.
The day he departed, the wind was 330 at 20-30 kts. The plane was based about 20 miles north-west. It took over 30 minutes for him to leave the tower airspace. As we watched him leave, we were wondering if he would have enough fuel to make it to his destination, or would have to return for 5 more gallons.
@@psycotria I built an ultralight an the manual said not to try flying it the first time in more than about 5 knots so waited all summer it's windy here got disgusted took it apart put it in attic of shop that was 30 yrs ago lol
You need a license to fly a drone, but not aircraft ???
Not if you build your own drone.
But if I fly a drone over 250 GRAMS without a license, the penalty can be a maximum of 3 years in prison and/or $250,000 fine. (49 U.S.C. § 46306(b) and (d)). Talk about B.S..
Tyrants doing tyrannical things if all the sudden part 103 aircraft were a dime a dozen like drones they'd be illegal in a heart beat
"NO LICENSE REQUIRED!" is a clickbait
No license is required legally but it makes sense to get training to solo standard.
you only live once!
Watch the video before ranting
100% agree (and he does put a caveat in the video at the 5:40 mark).
@@invincirick
Nothing new. These aircraft have been around for many years and many videos on CZcams.
Rehashing old videos with a clickbait title isn't smart
Technically, when you operate a FAR 103 ultralight, you are what's known as "licensed by rule." That is, if all the rules are followed, you are granted "license" to operate. All that the formal "license" does is allow you to operate under a different set of rules.
@@silverhammer7779 lol, distinction without a difference. You don't have to go get your private pilot's license.
No license required? Sounds dangerous in so many ways. A 100cc motorcycle requires a license! for goodness sake.
However, a beginner motorcycle rider would never get on a bike without some teaching them "how to ride".
Only a stupid person would ride or fly without someone teaching them.
Your under estimating most humans intelligence with a "survival instinct".
If you takeoff in a plane without knowing how to fly, you're basically playing Russian RouIette with only 1 empty chamber.
Well, playing Russian RouIette shouldn't be forbidden, it's only bad if harm is caused to others.
I.e. fly at a remote location, where noone is hurt.
Affordable for who? Rich people? All are over $10K.👎
Hi, how cost your car?😊
Stop advertizing this underpowered air crafts. They are dangerous.
Stop with the music!!!
Turn the volume down
@@nedkelley4810can’t turn down the music without turning down the voiceover. The voiceover has interesting and replace the information we are interested in hearing. The music is obnoxious and grating. It’s not background music, it’s super busy audio, not good for background music even if it were quieter.
I love the music. Keep it!
It would be to quiet without the music
There mist be zero money in this based on the overwhelming sponsorships.
???
@@ExperimentalAircraftChannel The sponsors and companies supporting you are more than anything I see online. The video was turned off because the knowledge-to-sponsor ratio was too high and could not continue. Possibly, the storytelling, editing, and format used are too spammy for me to tolerate and "normal" to you and your viewers. I'm not sure, but the channel is now set to "do not recommend." I am sure that I am not alone in these feelings. I am probably alone in saying something... how many people just thumbs-down and never return? YT is a trolling platform, so I hope you understand my notes are sincere.
@@marc-w-dot-com we don't control the ads "inserted" by CZcams randomly (which are skippable usually after 5 seconds) our ads combine several at once and I personally call them out. That entire ordeal lasts about 60 seconds and is more or less nearly always Aviation related. This particular "Episode" is NOT our typical style nor focus (a count down of sorts naming Aircraft). But usually more personal of walk throughs, factory tours, garage tours etc. But every now and again you have to produce something to reaches a "broader audience." So here we are. Maybe try a few of the other episodes. There are now somewhere about 400 to choose from. Thanks for taking the time to chime in here!
