- Want to learn how to build a house, or more specifically how to build your own house as an owner builder? Well then this is the right video for you because I explain the full home building process starting with the purchase of the land, then move onto the design process, then fining and hiring subcontractors, then the permitting process, then actually starting and managing the home build, all the way to the final punch list walkthrough. Building your own home means you will act as your own general contractor which means you will SAVE 20-30% instead of hiring another home builder, which can equate to tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the size of the project. Watching this video is you taking your first step to building your own home and the next step is clicking the link below to check out my digital Course that I have created to help first time owner builders!

hey man just a mexican dude here wanting to express my gratitude that you spoke to the contractors in spanish. those little things go a long way.
I was thinking in learning to do that.. So, it is beneficial?
@@willemsleveille314 i personally think it's beneficial because it builds comraderie between the "Jeffe" (boss) and the laborers. even on a small level, it just goes that extra mile in making people happy to work with you.
bullshit, learn english, I aint going to mexico without spanish
Speak English
@@FeasyFren blah blah blah I was born and raised here. You’re the minority now old man.
I built my own 1200 sq/ft detached garage with frost footing, etc. The hardest part of the entire build was figuring out how to obtain permission to build from the local mafia that has claimed ownership of the area my property resides in. I had to track them down, and then jump through the various hoops and supplications they require and then pay their enormous extortion fee. But when I got that done actually building the garage was relatively easy.
I hear ya! How did "We The People" allow this to even become a thing. We are so distracted by their media and entertainment that they have taken and extorted us out of EVERYTHING!
By mafia you’re talking about town govt.
@@makethingshappen8427 I don't live in a town.
@@makethingshappen8427exactly what do you call your local goverment? Or any goverment nowdays?
Keywords: "Local Mafia" & "Extortion Fee". You are exactly right. Gov. = license crooks!
shout out to all the Mexicans who help build a lot of the houses in this country. legends
They do crap work
I am in the process of doing this right now. Every lender i talked to told me i needed a GC license in order to get an owner builder construction loan so i ended up waiting, saving and building with cash.
How much did it cost you to build?
Just got my GC license from North Carolina today. Will start new builds early 2024!
I want to build in NC also (Nash or Vance County). Where are you?
Congratulations. What county?
Bro. How do you know what to study for the test. I look every where online and can’t find a study guide. Books. Nothing….I’m in Atlanta GA. Which I read with a license here I can do work in a lot of the south east
This is by the far the best video on understanding the new construction phase I’ve seen on all CZcams. Preparing to break ground on our custom Barndominum and this helped me see certain aspects differently thank you for the knowledge brother!
This young man is superior at explaining this. Good job Sir 👏

Does this apply if you are already living in your home and want to rebuild/total renovate it?

Thanks for the Info!
Much needed content. 🤠
Epic vid. Thanks!
Brooooo!!! You inspired me!!!! Me and my friend live in NJ and we’re going to use your method on building a house for rental
This was incredibly helpful. Thank you!
I am an architectural designer. The biggest obstacle I have found with my clients is they hire me to draw plans for their home or addition, we get through the design phase making sure the plans show what they want, then when they show them to the contractor, they get sticker shock and abandon the project. They don't know how much a build will cost (in my area it's about 250 - 300/sq ft for a typical track home) and they don't know how to determine their budget. This is frustrating for me and frustrating for them.
I'd like to know, from home builders, what knowledge I can pass on to my clients that will help them get from the idea to the completion? ALL COMMENTS WELCOME.
1. Pinterest home styles to nail what they’re going for. 2. Estimate cost per sq ft to build in your local area according to style of selected home. Then you have a realistic Base to start from. Your best bet is to start working with us builders/contractors as we will know pricing for materials and labor. It takes years of experiences and due diligence for us to obtain the contacts, resources and education so as to avoid dilemmas such as these. Definitely a valid good question hope this helps.
Hey,you got Instagram.I would like to chat
I am not an Architect or Civil Engineer but I've design the house I want to built and I've calculated the cost of materials and labor just researching on the Internet. Then I added 20 to 35 % of that figure which is what a GC would charge me to take on my project to have a close idea about the total cost of it. I've concluded that I will be my own GC no matter what it takes. I think you should be able to give them a very close idea of what the final cost would be. I don't see why not.
Well, by telling them up front that it's $300 / sqft. (Which is ridiculous IMO... It's $130 where I live).
@@rangerdoc1029okay thank goodness. A 1000sqft new build costing approx. $250,000 sounds pretty outlandish (as long as you’re getting your quotes)
This Information is golden! Thank you for taking the time to bless us with the knowledge and experience, much thanks and respect!
Very Helpful..Thank you
Thank you for doing this. Keep up the great work
God bless you and taking the time to explain all this !🙌🏼
I wish you did the calculations on a realistic amount when it comes to income. 250k annual income is a little far fetched for an average joe .
It’s almost impossible to do if your income is not as high . With that being said go get it!
This is a guy with a 771 credit score who believes that his score is bad. You're gonna have to figure out numbers elsewhere.
Just use the formula, it’s great information
great video. you answered a lot of my questions. I loved your subcontractor recruiting strategy, reminds me of stories my dad would tell.
Great video man loved it building an adu soon needed this info

Good job boss
Thank you!!!
Yesss my dreams job ❤
!!! Thank You !!!!
You are doing the lords work
The US has so much to learn from Mexico when it comes to residential construction. I am Dominican, but has traveled a lot and Mexico tops every other America country in residential construction finishes and style.
I like Mexican architecture as well
Yeah I'll pass on the acid bath, thanks anyway.

I'm doing my house by myself , and first initial step is check your land if that is sewer or septic if not you will get stuck in permits. I can explain im doing all step scratch and even did my own floor plans
You’ve gain a subscriber sir
So it is clear now that no one can buy or build a house today. Thanks for the info
I love the job you are doing, I think this is absolutely hands down the best channel at all times. I want to see you become a super big channel and make a lot of money on this channel. I would like to give you an advice on quitting the F word, I believe CZcams will probably promote you better. Don’t take it to hart. I want to see you succeed big. I appreciate the work you are doing.
Hi Casie, thanks for all the videos you've made, its very helpful. I'm planning to do an owner build myself in the north Houston also, would you be able to recommend some of the sub-contractors that I can send out some bids?
Hello I’m also looking to build my own home in north Houston!
Oftentimes the City, Village or Town have a list of all the contractors ( electrical, HVAC, Masonry, plumbing, landscaping...) already licensed with them. Ask for that list, some municipalities list their contractors on their Web site. Not all municipalities share this information but many have a list you can pick up at the building department.
In most places you can't be the GC on a home build to be a rental property or to sell, without having a Contractors license, and you aint getting one of them unless you got years of experience.
You can build your own home to live in and be the GC, but if you sell it before living in it at least a year, they will get you for contracting without a license.
dont forget hablar otro idioma (español en tu caso) para tener una buena forma de comunicacion con tus trabajadores from LATAM Mexico in this case. I see your videos from here México , un saludo me gusta tu contenido
This is a complete home construction video, great job. Do you provide your help in Houston area. RD
I have bought and sold lots of residential real estate. I've never used a real estate agent.
Great powerful information, but what about licensing to be able to pull the permits to build your home ?
I took a hit during Covid real bad as I was trying to scale when the pandemic hit. So now I have to use hard money which is a form of private lending I could get 90% of purchase and 100% construction. But the rates are 12-15%
Be advised, that not all banks will provide construction loans for owner builders.
Especially to those having no background in the construction industry.
Great video! What bank are you using for financing
Such an insightful video. Thanks for sharing! One question, to be an owner builder and pull the necessary permits does one need to have a contractors licence?
Such a wholesome video. Thank you.
What is the name of the lender you will be using?
Hi Casey, love your video. Just want to ask if as a home builder need to buy builder general liability insurance? And where did you buy builder risk insurance with $400 that low?
In cali they dont do vapor under concrete (not sure if you knew or may not matter…) great video
Thank you Case
For posting this video.
And sharing all the information.
👍👍👍👍👍
I'm looking for a good budget template as a first time owner builder. Any good suggestions?
That sombrero is lit 2:00
Thanks for advice I’m on my way to build my House I’m very scared about those contractors
❤nothing to be afraid of. Just check out their work history and or get recommendations from people who know their work experience. Ask questions on the type of projects they've completed. Also have the contractor(s) place your name on the Certificate of Insurance as an certificate holder in your name (it's usually free to the contractor from their insurance carrier) this will protect you if the contractor work is faulty or if something happens..., you can go after their insurance and hire a different contractor if need be to finish the project. It also depends on what's in the small print on the contract. I recommend hiring a good project manager that knows the construction process if you want to build yourself.
Hi Case, I'm looking to build in the Houston area, do you have any recommendations which are the permits needed, how long it taks and if there is anyone who can help navigate across the bureaucracy?
Please make a video about plex unit !!
A GC here in Norhter VA let's squad up!
As a builder what roof material is the best in terms of long lasting? money is not a problem
Great video but what’s the average cost of architects and engineers?
I have this question How can you build more than one home as your own GC? Some jurisdictions around the US state you must live in the house for 12 months before selling or only being able to construct a single family once every 5 years.
I may have missed it, but how do you ensure you are designing a home within your budget? Seems you can accidentally over design costing much more than expected
Thanks
Once you know what you're building you can have a contractor or estimator put some preliminary cost together so you'll have an ideal budget. Knowing what type of finishes are going into your home will play big part on determining the budget. Going to the stores yourself and picking out flooring, tiles, cabinets, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, window, doors, appliances... Take pictures at the stores, some stores like Home Depot, Sherwin Williams..., have a design team or a person in different departments that can assist you or design it out at the store or you can do it on-line on their site. They can give you a print out on the material cost and if it needs to be ordered how long it will take. Each contractor should be bidding off the same specifications ( type, style, model number, manufacturer... ) otherwise contractors will install anything and prices will be all over the place. Knowing what you want will help with your budget. If everyone is too high then you may have to pick out different materials. Also see what each contractor charge price per square feet or their flat rate fee.
Is your plumber and electrician the same contractor that did the plumbing and electrical work in the beginning of the foundation? Or do you hire different ones?
How did you get a lender to let you be your own GC that’s what I can’t find!! Do I need to build a small project cash first to have proof I know what I’m doing?
God bless!
Which one is your lender?
