- We're taking on classic Cities Skylines (City Skyline) challenges whilst we wait for Cities Skylines 2 (CS2). This time we're engineering a city on a tiny empty island where we'll need to expand the land mass as we grow our city!
Shout out to @ambiguousamphibian for the inspiration for the challenge!

Creating a squared island sounds like an Architect's idea
very architectural lmao
Using a hexagon, that's true architecture, but true engineers know either a triangle, an arch or the strongest shape. All else is on the road to being an Architect.
He would Never support a aechitect idea!!
No, it's *very* engineer. An architect would make lots of curves and scenic high points.
I think its a phase. Considering that RCE is also building a lot of Arab megaprojects atm... which are very architectural
"Eldercare facility, that's where the elderly go to die... childcare facility? that's where the children go to die." pure gold.
Matt working on getting his green card, I guess?
was looking for this comment
😂😂😂
He also put the crematorium right next door 😂😂😂
💀
1:58 "We are not meant to be flooding _this early."_
Classic RCE moment.
Matt really had the opportunity to call it Mattlantis and didnt take it 😭
True... But, will it really be cheaper if he build below sea level?
Matthattan.
He did name it great mattain
Id have called it matthattan as well.
Everyday RCE uploads a cities skylines is a good day
Wise words are spoken
Absolutely my thoughts
Every day, but true
Matt: The sea here is deep.
Matt less than 5 minutes after: Let's raise the ground in this deep sea.
Matt right after raising the ground: Why is there a tsunami here?
It's never boring watching you mate.
He’s very smort
Tip: As you create land on top of water, it floods (as you know). But the water needs some time to be released out of the newly formed land. So the roads can turn into bridges, and the zoning may not work. Just give it some time, and it should work. 😊
i suggest drain some water before fill area with a soil
I was think could you start with like a barrier then fill it in??
I’ve also found that sometimes you can speed it up a little by “upgrading” the road to another type of road that uses the same amount of tiles…however that can sometimes cost a bit of cash.
The way I get over zoning not appearing where it should is to build a section of fence where the zone is missing. Then delete the fence immediately. Small cost for the fence, mostly refunded when deleted, but it generates the zoning !!
Just build the roads under the water for boat traffic
If your house is on fire, this can only mean one thing... territorial expansion for the British Empire.
Lol😂
No one expects the Spanish Inquisition.
Considering it floods every time he expands this is feeling exceptionally well timed since my province just had 250mm if rain in a day and massive flash floods...
Found the Nova Scotian
@@CasualSpud Was gonna comment something similar. 😆
Metro boomin
Somehow Matt made St Louis into an island and made it more successful than actual St Louis.
Bravo
As someone who lives in St. Louis, I can confirm it’s true. We do drink our own poo.
Llölömlmplpnkno 0:29
Yep
A pat on the back to the editors, for giving us well edited videos using movie maker.
Given both the inspiration for the challenge, and the sheer number of times the island got flooded, I feel like the title of RealCivilAmphibian should be given to the mayor I love that towards the end, the city planning turned from needs-based zoning to a spending spree of giant monuments and useless buildings to flex the confusing amount of wealth the city generated. When the next major flood inevitably comes, I want a spot on the arch to watch the cars all majestically drift down the grid
"Why are you leaving, we aren't flooding anymore."
Famous last words.
12:31 Matt here is a good idea for the sewage: you build a platform far from the city and put them there
Pro tip when using limited space: when you unlock the high density residential, put some buildings up and then replace the low density. It will take some time to catch up but it's worth it
@@FlammableRadish thanks man
It is true that the moment Matt plans to play shit he plays surprisingly well
Too much sewage work under his belt.
It's funny how in an RCE video it can go from "oh no we just poonami'd everywhere" to "how is this going so well?" in a few seconds
Never adding a fire department even when the city is buring around you is exactly why I watch this channel!
City design right out of Abu Dhabi's playbook. "We're blowing our budget on filling in the ocean for more retail parks and residential properties"
I would love to see ambiguous amphibian do a map like this. It's very interesting and engaging. I would also like to see you do a one tile city.
Hi Matt, actually when fret trains are coming into your city you are importing (so it cost money)
I discovered RCE earlier this year through his cities skylines videos and I loved them. Another creator I've loved for years now is Call Me Kevin. I've recently been binging his GTA V chaos mod streams (some of my comfort content tbh) when what should happen but Kevin shouting out RCE for hosting his stream on Twitch??
I fully had to pause the video and like take a second because I was just like... Wow. Small world.
Anyways, wanted to share this story somewhere, love the videos!
"This time we won't have poo in our drinking water! Now where shall I place this landfill?"
-
"Why are you people ill?"
Did you do that on purpose, Matt? 🤣
the city skyline looking sublime part of the g wagon music is engineered so well it doesnt get out of my head...
Maybe putting the island at the same level as the tidal average wasn't the best idea.
Matt not realising solar panels are filled with water in order to work is surprising ngl
Yep, there is a difference between solar panels and solar cells. One makes hot water, the other makes electricity.
perhaps he though they were crystalline polysillicon ones
rce showing us his ingenuity 🤯
CZcams?
Hello CZcams!
Yooo
ratio
Bro thinks his comment will blow up 💀💀💀💀
Matt: limits the number of lanes people can use to enter the city
Also Matt: why are you changing lanes now? architect drivers.
New video? Time to lay some human logs!
Most cursed yt comment I'm here for it also same
I can't wait for Engitopia in Cities Skylines 2!
Ah yes, Cities:Skyline, West Florida edition!
I'm loving the fact ambiguousamphibian was the inspiration
Can't wait for Great Mattain to start exploring the ocean and next thing you know Matthattan is crying about taxes.
Hearing u shout out AA is the crossover I never knew I needed
6:26 I think its because the game thought it was still a bit under water
I like how you changed the area near the pop canons. Very efficent
Can’t wait to see you playing CS2
I'm surprised he didn't start building higher and higher in order to let the lower levels flood when he expands
seeing an engineer not understanding high and low tides is quite amusing
A DRAINAGE engineer
(Tip. If you have 81 tiles 2, at megalopolis, you'll get all the space in the map. While not having it will limit you to 9 tiles.)
Matt, some Solar Updraft technology uses water as a sort of “heat battery” to keep the solar updraft working overnight, rather than using electrical batteries to store it, which are a hell of a lot more expensive and inconvenient.
You know some of the strongest shapes are tiny, and there's no shame in that.
Time for another series of timberborn!
I saw a video made by someone else the title said something about a new update. I forgot to look at the date of the video, but it showed up on my recommendation list within the last two or three weeks.
start of video really shows how Matt loves his country
The fact that I just heard “Poonami” in a legit instance makes my day.
"What do we have there? Child healthcare center. Ah yes, that's where children go to die."
-RCE 2023
matt always makes cities using the strongest shape :)
Rce's best city built to date. Still constant fire and flooding. On the bright side he had health care and police before it was to late. Oh and his city had at least 3 smartish people in it.
Great video, loved the ending
You haven't watched the video yet🙄
lol didnt watch the video yet
@@Brash_Candicootthat’s the joke calm down
@@Brash_Candicoot that's the point

It’s funny you’ve never really used the flood walls all the flooding :) it may have helped never know :) hope your doing well rce :) keep up the good builds :)
to be fair, after all the tsunami videos the flood walls might feel a tad ineffectual
Around 19 minutes, the island seems to be getting excited about the plan.
I kind of understand how places like Cocking and Fannyarse get their names now.
id love to see this turn into a series
18:15 never laugh so much 🤣 can’t wait for cities skyline 2 series 🤣
Matt does not like crossroads. LOL. great video.
Can you build the Hålogalands bridge?
Norway's second longest suspension bridge, and the longest in the arctic circle, measuring in at 1533 meters.
Question: is a naval architect an architect or an engineer?
Thin ice
That was back when they were unified, before the divorce. Gothic churches with gargoyles disguising drainage and carved and painted figureheads that are actually toilets.
I'm excited to see how well Matt will do in cities skylines 2. I'm excited to see that video in the near future.
Considering how often Matt has trouble with floods, I’m surprised he never thought to build flood walls 😂😅
Matt is an architect now
“what do we have there? oh a child health center. that’s where children go to die” wow matt so positive! keep up the good work!
Hey Matt, i recommend a little train game called Train Valley 2. It's all about "drawing" the train lines, managing the routes, and taking the resorces around the map. It's pretty cool, but it gets hard real fast!
"Then we got the elder care. That's like where the elderly go to die. And what do we have there, the child health care? Ah yes, that's where children go to die."
"That's a poonami ripping through this area"
-RCE, 2023
A city this dense definitely needs some transit. Possibly a main line with some spurs that naturally promote flow around the various areas and points of interest.
Meine Nippel sind verdreht
Netherlands in a nutshell: just put sand in the sea to expand
Crazy how similar to St. Louis this city is, always going into debt, low pop is highly educated, and even the high number of fires!
11:27 ‘that’s where children go to die 😂😭’
quick tip as I barely play this game but rather watch a lot dont listen to your demand too much look for the needing working symbols that way you never over populate especially in challenge runs
edit: I wish more people did challenge runs for games
Matt talking about fixing Engitopia? Would love to see that.
Also, an Engitopia 2: Electric Boogaloo in CS2 would be great. Perhaps with a more serious approach at the start as well, just like the original Engitopia?
"We're going to have clean water for a change, " places garbage dump next to water intake... 😂
There's a vas differens between the efficiency of this city and your usual strong shapes.
Ohmygosh, I chuckled and giggled and out-right guffawed all the way through! First video I've watched of yours... undoubtedly won't be the last!
I was screaming, BUILD A SEA WALL all the way through
11:11
that sequence is comedy gold 🤣🤣
you've actually built Ocean City, MD here. Poo water to the west (actually its the chesapeake bay) and fresh water to the east and a very long skinny city.
When Matt creates the strongest island
The town has a risk of flooding on demand.
3:04 "Engineer discovers tides." That crack me up! 9:42 I feel sorry for this man
I can't stand the big spot of black liquid! Do something, gentlemen!
11:15 Elders die in Elder Care while Children die in Child Health Care
12:37 Sparkly Unicorn Jewelry 13:48 Quick! Flood the city! 14:17 Too late.
17:53 FIRE! 18:20 And it's spreading!
A solar updraft farm powered by air would be highly inefficient as air can't hold much heat per cubic meter and would produce in theory 5 times less energy than a solar updraft farm powered by water. And I thought only Architects were ineffective.
I always watch yur videos to learn something about the games I play (and occasionally find new) - TIL: We can use floodinng to extinguish fires! I didn't thought C:S does this :D
Never would've thought that the term "poonami" would have meaning to me. Thank you for enriching my vocabulary, RCE.
ambigious amphibian goes on a spiritual adventure in all his vids
Brit = "To be fair" and "To be honest". Younger American = "Not gunna lie" BTW, I'm a Missourian married to a Brit and proposed inside the St Louis arch. I think she said yes just to get down from the 630 feet high swaying.
Please continue this series
😂😂😂 "Engineer discovers tides" had me laughing. Instant like, well Done editor 👌
Didn't know I needed RCE getting inspiration from AA until I got RCE getting inspiration from AA...
"Everything's on fire and everyone's just walking around like it's normal!" They must be transplants from Verde Beach and Clearwater County.
AmphibiousAmphibian is how I ended up on your channel! (TY CZcams algorithm) Awesome to see the reference to his channel. You are both great and I've been binging all your videos the last few weeks xD
Oh boy I can’t wait to see your masterpieces on CS 2
Lol. As i scrolled through my feed, I saw the tile thumbnail, and before i saw who my first thought was, "Oh hey, AA is doing another tile challenge"
Anismus Inhibin has the most soothing voice of all, but he's competent and I don't like that always, so I watch RCE.
Got an idea: bridge review but in different games than you play/make videos of. My first thought was obviously GTA, starting from 3 and ending up at 5. I think every mainline entry has quite some bridges
Imagine living on this island.
"House is flooded again"
Naa. Every time RCE made the next town update it suddenly popped up on your screen. Top sincos scariest humpscares, numero uno:
As someone who lives within a few blocks of the actual Arch, I appreciate it making into the video and Mattland
1:03 Go Britain!
20:38 That would be a really good video Idea if you try to fix Engietopia without the mods keeping it alive!
2:20 They wanted to experience the bridge and that's it!
Welcome, to Great Mattain! Flood risk: Every time a damn house is BUILT!
I love the Logic of: Are you on fire? Are you'r things on fire? Is you'r family on fire? Then lets call tsunami!
