- Go to migrationology.... for lots more tasty street food!
Sure there are lots of beautiful beaches, volcanoes and green mountain in Hawaii, but nothing compares to Hawaiian food.
With a mixture of local and foreign cultures mingled together on the islands of Hawaii, there has been a food development that is one of the tastiest in the world. Local style Hawaii food is a mixture of flavors with many rooted in Asian cuisine.
Throughout this video I'll give you an overview of the the top 16 Hawaii food dishes you should eat when you visit the islands of Hawaii. You can eat these dishes in Honolulu or even throughout the islands of Hawaii.
In case you want more information, I'll go ahead and list all the foods right here so you can take a look.
1. SPAM - Yup, it's one of the most popular things to eat in Hawaii, especially when it's fried up and served with rice.
2. SPAM Musubi - Spam fried and added to a block of rice and wrapped in seaweed.
3. Portuguese Sausage - Following SPAM, Portuguese sausage is a really popular Hawaiian food for breakfast.
4. Teri Chicken Plate Lunch - The trio of teriyaki chicken, rice and macaroni salad makes a great lunch in Hawaii!
5. Mahi Mahi Plate - I also love to eat plate lunches made from fried mahi mahi fish.
6. Loco Moco - A huge container filled with rice, hamburger patties, eggs and brown gravy on top.
7. Barbecue Ribs - Hawaiian style pork ribs!
8. Chow Fun - Noodles in Chinese style but with an added touch of Hawaiian flavor!
9. Poke - One of my favorite Hawaiian dishes to eat is called Poke, raw cubes of marinated fish - normally ahi tuna.
10. Mussels Poke - Another favorite on the islands is similar to poke but made with mussels instead of fish.
11. Ocean Salad - Seaweed salad marinated in sesame oil.
12. Poi - The traditional staple in the islands is a pudding like paste made from taro root.
13. Laulau - Another Hawaiian staple is laulau made from taro leaves and pork.
14. Malasadas - Sweet Portuguese donuts, deep fried and dusted in sugar granules are absolutely fantastic!
15. Chocolate Haupia Pie - It's one of the tastiest dessers the islands have to offer - sweet and coconut flavored.
16. Shave Ice - Of all the Hawaii local style food, barely anything is as famous or well loved than shave ice!
Enjoy eating these foods!

Hilarious how your production values have advanced in the years. I just went from watching the advanced video and audio production of the Brazil street food tour to stepping back in time 7 years to see this video and it's very to see how you've grown in your coverage of these amazing foods from countries around the world! Here's to another 7 years!
Fantastic foods but my all time favorite is MUSUBI. Nothing like a nice block of white sticky rice with a nice layer of fried spam and wrapped in fine seaweed...absolute heaven.

Everything looked great. When I was a kid living on Kauai (in the 60's) we used to get meat on a stick for a special treat. I remember the distinct flavor... it was terriyaki based and sweet.
Yakitori!! :D
Yah, I love taro as well. The paste is slightly sour and the consistency of a pudding. It's eaten as a main staple starch in Hawaiian food.
Yes! The pie is from Ted's on the North Shore and a few of those plate lunches are from Rainbow's. You're going to enjoy it!
I know what you mean. I was born and raised in Hawaii and the Hawaiian food and beaches were my favorite parts of the island. Eating a spam musubi on the beach on a hot day is Devine. One of my favorite dishes were locomoco spam musubis. It's perfection
Good job Mark.....yum yum
You need your own eating show man. Love your videos!
I agree! I think about the food more than anything else in Hawaii.

I miss Hawaii so much I'm salivating over that Portuguese sausage and Mahdi Mahdi plate
Thx for your Hawaii eating VLOGs!!! It leaves me homesick for the islands, even though I live here in Hawaii!!!! LOL!!!!
I live on that side of the island, if you want good Loco Moco on the Leeward side, i'd recommend Hannara in Waianae as have good hamburgers and gravy. If you're in Kapolei, En Fuego has the best Garlic Chicken/Spicy Garlic Chicken/Mochiko Chicken on this side. If you want good Hawaiian food, Highway Inn in Waipahu is the best place to go, they're known for their beef stew. If you get that, don't forget to add the chili pepper water to spice it up.
Spam moco is GREAT!!
Awesome, poke is my favorite thing on the list!
wanna try the two types of Poke . looks yummy !
Looks so good :)
Those loco mocos omfg great taste, I cant wait till I visit Hawaii again to do the lava walk and get me some good eats.

Thank you! I appreciate your support!
poke sounds amazing.
all those foods are da killahs especially da poke and poi its like heaven in your mouth
I don't think things can get much better than a pound of poke in hand with a beer on the side. That's a pure slice of paradise! Thanks for watching this video!
tried all of it :)
Everybody saying negative things about local food, I know it's not the healthiest foods. That's obvious, but like Mark said eat in moderation. Balance diet and exercise. I live here and I love my local food. I just don't overeat. I'm not fat. That's all it takes. Every state has unhealthy food! Lol look at the southern states where I grew up as a prime example. Everything is fried and/or in gravy.
All of the best stuff!
As a child growing up in Hawaii, my favorite was spam musubi wrapped in plastic from the gas station on the Corner.
There is no such thing as Hawai'ian Food. The cuisine is a melting pot of all sorts of dishes and stuff. It really is a thing of beauty ;)
I grew up in kalihi lol went to Farrington use to live behind the 7-11 across the street
everything looks delicious
Loco Moco! 🤙
Old school video!!

I'm with you! Too bad I didn't have a chance to grab any garlic shrimp this time.... but I'll always go back to Hawaii!
Lol dang autocorrect mahi mahi you also need to add chocolate covered macadamias!!! Oh and shrimp trucks
Cool, thanks so much for sharing, and glad to hear that delicious shave ice combo. I don't think I've ever had green tea shave ice flavor - going to have to try that sometime!
We're going to Hawa-ee soon!
I'm visiting next year and I'm worried about sticking to my healthy diet. So far, I can do the ocean salad, poi, poke and Laulau-fish or chicken. Thank you for sharing.

I just discovered your channel and website. I love watching you travel and eat. My kind of job. Let me know if you every need a travel partner. LOL! Thanks for sharing.
HOWZIT! oh man thanks for the video, supa hungry now
poke sounds amazing.
I understand what you're saying, but same goes for foods anywhere else in the world. Rather than toss away all these Hawaiian comfort foods, they should rather be eaten in moderation, paired with lots of fruit and vegetables, and daily exercise.
Poke is the way to go!
Wow, I've never had that, but sounds delicious!
Hahaha thankful that I live in hawaii
What about garlic chicken, mochiko chicken, minute chicken, huli huli chicken, chicken long rice, oxtail soup, coco puffs, manapua, Portuguese bean soup, waffle dogs, meat jun, saimin, shoyu pork (rafute), butter mochi, garlic shrimp, lomi lomi salmon, pipikaula, kulolo, guri-guri, and crispy gau-gee!!?? 😋🍽🙏🏿
Awesome
Hey, thanks for sharing that!
Thanks
That looks so Ono!
Okay I was fine with the list but.... the best shave ice is either from aiokis or waikele and you gotta get the lihing Mui flavor with lihing Mui powder
yummy!!!!!!
I could go for some Portuguese sausage and eggs right about now too!
Thanks!
Hawaiian food is delicious. Check out Jamaican food it's delicious too! I hear the reggae beat in the background. Love island food.
Thank you!
I would fly the 7000 miles there again just for the sausage and the doughnuts - really are THAT GOOD
Most poke in Hawaii is imported to keep the price affordable which also comes with carbon monoxide to keep its color red. The real fresh and best is Tamashiro market they move lots of poke and buys from fish auction daily. Anything below $12.99 a lb most likely is frozen and imported.
I miss my food I was raise on in Honolulu Hawaii.
Mahalo Mark
Also i would love to recommend you some of my fav food
I would have thought the wide rice noodles in that sauce would be more of a Thai-inspired dish. It reminds me of Pad See Ew.
all those foods are da killahs especially da poke and poi its like heaven in your mouth
Hmmm i love TARO. Taro ice cream hmm.
what is taro paste used for???
I had to look up on wikipedia what a "plate lunch" is lol
Mark, how do you leave out kahlua pork, chicken long rice, and lomi salmon?
Haha, good idea!
Yah... unfortunately didn't have any footage of saimin to include in this video, but that's another winning dish. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion!
yes and yes the 1st thing is food
Haha, yes me too!
NOTHING beats a plate of Lau Lau, 2 scoop rice, 1 scoop macaroni salad after a day at da beach. Or you can wait for da manapua man and get some manapua, fried noodles and a orange passion drink. Dont forget to go up the north shore and gets a plate of Garlic Shrimp and rice
Yummy
oh man after watching this I could go for some poi and kimchi muscles right about now
great vids have you been to singapore yet?
similar to japanese (okinawa cuisine)
absolutely tasty!!!!!!!!
Staying on the Leeward side at Ko Olina in a month ....where's the best Loco Moco in that area ??!!
The best thing is to eat poke, char shiu pork or chicken and lau lau in a picnic lunch by the sea, and afterwards wash the grease off your hands and face in the ocean waves.
What comes next depends on who you are with. ;)
np! fried noodle = chow mien btw :)
yum
you forgot the kakuhu garlic shrimps in giovannis and romys shrimp trucks.
Most foods seems imported/influenced by from europe or asia, still, it looks tasty!
Do all poke places have mussels or do you have to go to a specific place? 1:26
