      I feel like this is good advice but the problem is If there's buttons I'm going to want to press them. And what really holds FM back is its lack of intuitiveness. I understand that FM veterans, have no problems with the menus and like its complexity but it's so hard to get into as a new player. I think their player base could be much bigger if they made a more feasible beginner mode.

    Friendly advice for a newbie - I've never played the console version, which I know is a bit simplified, but the main thing is that you don't have to select every option for a tactic. You can leave things without an instruction. Especially for a team low down - your players aren't very good - so they don't cope well with complicated instructions. Once you get Braintree to the fully professional levels and sign some more elite players, then you can start mnicro-managing every guy's job like Pep. But at that level, you have to keep things simple.
    For example, maybe don't have a high tempo, but also tell your players to slow down the pace of the game. In the lower leagues in England - direct balls to a big tall Target Forward are a cheat code. It's not pretty, but that's semi-pro football for you.
    There's no difficulty selection in FM (the difficulty selection is choosing to manage a better team), but you were playing an amateur team in that friendly. That's why the players got a bit upset at you telling them to focus. This is effectively a training match against a bunch of teachers and plumbers so they didn't like being told to take it super seriously lol
    I'd recommend the tutorials by people like Zealand.

The game is easier to learn when you choose a team you know and have a budget for recruitment. 2nd comment would be I didn't see you assess your team or staff, understanding your teams capabilities and depth is key to making it through the 50 plus games each season. Braintree is a part time team so your Tactic is a bit too intense to manage moral and fitness levels for the whole season. Lollujo and Zealand have some good tutorials on CZcams to get started. But welcome to the addictive game that is FM In terms of American Sports Preseason is the phase where you act more like an NFL General Manager than a Football coach get those free transfers and loans in before all the good ones are gone don't rush it.

    as a lot of people are saying , its generally best , especially when starting out , not to over complicate the tactical instructions. build a tactic piece by piece , and try to consider how each player links to those around him, and how the roles all work together. you already know that football is about space , both controlling and creating. 4-4-2 is a nicely balanced tactic to go with. there is plenty of info to find that will explain instructions and their results in more detail.

    This may not be apparent until later but I wouldn't recommend learning on a lower league team, it is much more difficult without resources. I would recommend getting a big club in a weaker league, something like Ajax or Celtic. You'll have enough money to do things and the players will be at a high enough level to really see differences between different styles of play.

    Some advice...
    1) If it's your first time playing, start with one of the bigger teams. They're easier to manager, and it's easier to get the players you want because they have money. This way will get you winning, and you'll be able to play around with the tactics. Football Manager is about tinkering and finding what's best. It'll be more difficult and frustrating with smaller teams. You should only play with a smaller club once you've got a hang of things.
    2) Don't click everything. Players in the game react like humans in real life. Too much information just won't help them. Especially a lower division team where the players are not very good. For lower divisions, less is better.
    3) Never. Play. Friendlies.
    Don't do it. Give the responsibility to your assistant.

    • @quangpham2031
      @quangpham2031 Před měsícem +1

      @Hejhouyou I sort of agree with you. In previous iterations, and FM24 to a certain extent, defensive tactics can be successful, but not flexible to build because they often require specific instructions and a lot of good players do not adapt well. I had a lot of success with mid-table-mentality clubs playing a true defensive tactic, winning a CL in my 9th year with Perugia in Italy, 2 scudettos in 10 years. For context though, I only faced lowly Sevilla in the final.
      From my experience, cautious mentality does not work for me. Better go DEFENSIVE, if you want to be "defensive". Wide and aggressive defensive line (tackle harder) is good, you do not want to defend deep AND narrow, giving too much space. Attacking narrow is good, because going wide kills tempo. Playmaker rolls are really bad, all your MFs need to be good at defending and passing long but none of them should be the focal point. And above all, anyone with less than 11 aggression and 11 bravery should be sold immediately.

    I noticed that you have a mac. I think FM is available for mac. Not sure how it looks like on the mac but i suspect the quality and more importantly, the level of detail is similar to the PC version (I stand to be corrected). If thats the case i suggest you switch to that. You will have more granular control of the team, tactics, players and so on.
    Also, at the lower leagues where you have started, its good to keep things simple. You have a semi-pro club and therefore the players will not be available for more intensive training. So simple tactics should suffice.
    Take a good look at your squad and determine where the gaps are. Look at your strikers, i personally suggest getting a striker with a target man profile (tall, reasonable jumping reach and heading). At the lower leagues, he will become a nightmare for your opponents.
    Its preseason, so the tranfer window is open. But don't over-spend. In fact, dont spend your transfer budget. Sign free transfers. Go to the transfer section and sign players on trial then offer the ones you like a deal.
    Back to the tactics, set up more than one system for when the inevitable slump happens. The good old 442 is great and should serve you well. Have one of the strikers as the target man and the second as a pressing forward to assist with the buildup. You might not like it but long balls work well with the 442. One of the midfielders should be defensive.
    Leave the training scheduling to your assistant.
    There is a lot to learn and its not going to be easy. Its fun, frustrating and everything in between. I wish you the best of luck

  • @MaticulousGamer
    @MaticulousGamer Před měsícem

    You will sacrifice possession on counterattacking play, so it's expected. the main focus in your system is on a solid defence, which helps to break on the counter... also, you can shout instructions to your players during the game (but try not to overuse it) as it can confuse or distract them under different scenarios. you've got to learn your players' personality traits in order to master this aspect. if you have a strong striker and CBs in the lower leagues, hit early crosses, make the most of set-pieces, focus down the flanks and maybe avoid playmaking, in favour of a more direct approach. passing into space should go hand-in-hand with this. Lastly; even when you get the "perfect" tactical setup, your players may take time to adjust, so don't get disheartened too soon if things don't click right away. FM is a legendary game (a player from England is now managing professionally in France) and was doing well the last I checked. Enjoy

    I stopped with the FM series at around FM15 or 16 having had massive campaigns in a few previous versions, it just became unwieldy with all the options you had about conversations, team talks etc. Approaching the series now, I wonder if there should be a sort of tutorial mode for newbies, like if you could play as a director of football to learn about the scouting and transfer negotiation side, maybe start playing as a manager of the youth team to learn about training and the game manager options...
    It wasn't easy mode you were playing in - at the start of each season, clubs have preseason games to get up to match fitness, so what that game was just a friendly match with a team from (I think) 3 tiers below your division. How to manage a squad to get them through pre-season is another thing to learn!
    Good luck with the series, if you play the game for a while you can sometimes encounter names before you do so in the real world! In one of my campaigns, I had a frustrating cup final where I was dominating the game, but the opposition keeper was saving everything. His name was Jack Butland, a one time top tier prospect whose real career didn't quite pan out like that following an injury or two. That is a testament to just how good the database is in the game!

So, if you have weak wingers/fullbacks, playing down the flanks would not work as well. If you players are old and have no stamina, pressing is not great. If your defenders are not fast, a high defensive line is a bad idea. Is your striker tall? Maybe he can be a target man. And so on. Adjust your tactics to fit the capability of your players. Identify your star players and make sure the game revolves around their strengths.

      To add to this: The game still processes EVERYTHING in detail, just less time wasted on animation.
      To add a little more: I recommend "comprehensive" or "full match" mode for first few games to see how your tactics work, it adds to immersion

    First time seeing the console version. Very simple. On the pc version you'd have alot more stats and stuff to see while waiting for next highlights.

    I have tried several times to get into this game. I really want to like it. It's just so unintuitive. I'm looking for a FIFA career on steroids. But it's so much more complicated than that. I feel like they'd be really successful if they made a mode that was just like see for career mode with a few extra add-ons. And then you can add things in as you play. Going into this game cold turkey makes no sense to anybody and I can't believe how it's so successful but remains so unintuitive.
