    I love slowburn too! I think the thing is I want to _feel_ the romance, I don’t want to be told they’re in love 🤷‍♀️ Or at least I wanna understand why they even like each other in the first place!

    Pleeeeease read “The Infernal Devices”! That was the first series I read by Cassandra Clare (back in 2011), and it’s been a favourite ever since. “The Mortal Instruments” was great when I was a teen, but TID still holds a huuuge place on my heart 9 years later. It’s the story of the parents of the kids in Chain of Gold, so it might seem weird at first. It’s the best though - trust me! It would be great to know your thoughts x

    I totally agree that Chain of Gold was very much focused on relationship building but I think that's one of Cassandra Clare's strong suits. I always fall in love with her characters (especially Magnus Bane), no matter what series. You should definitely give the Infernal Devices and The Dark Artifices a go, they have great characters and relationships but are more action packed even from the first book on.

    • @robynloveschocolate
      @robynloveschocolate Před 3 lety

      nananeti I agree! And oh man don’t get me started on Magnus Bane haha. Such a good character. But yeah the way you feel like you actually see the characters grow up, change, learn, and love each other really sucks you in I think. I have a book series recommendation that you might be enjoy. The series is The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott and it’s a YA series that I read a super long time ago but it was really unique to me and I really loved it when I read it although I don’t remember too many details. The super cool thing about the series is that it has a bunch of characters who are immortal humans who were real people in history, Nicholas Flamel being the obvious one, but there’s others such as Joan of Arc and Shakespeare and Miyamoto Musashi (one of my favorites in the series) and soooo many others. The series also has immortal humans who are specifically from mythology which I found really cool and interesting because it has so many mythologies from around the world tied into the story. My favorite character was Scathach who is from Celtic mythology and she is so amazing and super badass because she’s a master in every martial art and fighting style that’s ever existed, and she also has bright red hair too. The two main characters Sophie and Josh who are twins end up working for the Flamels and basically get all tied up in this huge adventure which takes them all over the world. I don’t remember too much about the actual story but I really just remember the characters and the mythology and historical elements to the series which I found really unique and I loved because I love that stuff in general. I never hear people talk about this series which makes me sad and also why I wanted to recommend it because I thought it was great when I read it and it really stood out to me as being a really unique urban fantasy series. It’s definitely a pretty easy read but I think it’s really enjoyable and worth the time.

    I think a lot of cassandra clares series have the same format that at the start of a series the first book builds all the character relationships and then as the series progresses more and more action happens. If you love this type of books please read « A Winter’s Promise » from Christelle Dabos (French author). You will either like it or hate it but if you can, give it a try it’s worth it ! You have 4 books (around 450-550 pages each) and it won a lot of prices here in France :). « Plain-spoken, headstrong Ophelia cares little about appearances. Her ability to read the past of objects is unmatched in all of Anima and, what s more, she possesses the ability to travel through mirrors, a skill passed down to her from previous generations. Her idyllic life is disrupted, however, when she is promised in marriage to Thorn, a taciturn and influential member of a distant clan. Ophelia must leave all she knows behind and follow her fiancé to Citaceleste, the capital of a cold, icy ark known as the Pole, where danger lurks around every corner and nobody can be trusted. There, in the presence of her inscrutable future husband, Ophelia slowly realizes that she is a pawn in a political game that will have far-reaching ramifications not only for her but for her entire world. » it’s by far my list favorite saga EVER.

    Cassandra Clare books are so good! The Infernal Devices is one of the best. You should also try Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz. It’s not your typical YA book. As for other YA you could try Jenny Han and Morgan Matson books. Colleen Hoover also has some good books. For fantasy A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas is good too. ❣️

    I’ve been on a reading slump since June so I’ve only read 6 books for the last two months ㅠㅠ thankfully I’m coming out of it and finished a whole book in one day yesterday. Also, where do you read your books? Seoul has some great English sections in some bookstores but I read mostly on Libby

    i think that if you're gonna start reading shadowhunters again you should Really read the infernal devices trilogy! it'll give you more context for the last hours (chain of gold is the first in that new series, of course)
