As a librarian, when I recommend a book to someone, mainly kids, I make sure to tell them that if they can’t get into the book that they can return it. That it won’t hurt my feelings and it just means we need to find another one. I try to put emphasis that they don’t have to finish every book the pick.

As someone who will dnf at the drop of a hat its interesting to see why people who struggle to dnf do so

Getting comfortable DNFing books has honestly helped me read MORE. When I'm reading a book I want to disappear into the world and think about it even when I'm not reading. If I'm not feeling that, I move on. Reading a bad book puts me into a reading slump!

I like clothing descriptions, but I'll imagine they're weight, height, hair color, etc based on their introduction into the story. And just how i want to imagine them

Hot take: the chosen one is good trope, like, they're the main character for a reason! And while, yes, I love plenty of books without this trope, but when I see it? Amazing.

I feel so worlds apart from people that find it hard to dnf books 😂 i have no problem throwing a slow book into a charity bag i dont have time for that haha

I like the term soft dnf. I’ve been trying to read Dracula for nearly 7 years. Every fall I pick it up and just cannot manage to finish it, but every year I get closer. Last year I made it about 90% before I stopped. I bought a really nice hardcover illustrated version so maybe this year will be the year.

I've re-read the self pub The Atlas Six audio combined with the trad pub book (or vice versa, whichever way it was) and honestly the changes were so minimal, nothing that changes the substance, and maybe like a dozen changes in total? some of which only being a word or two? aka not worth mentioning (I do love TA6, though. Haven't liked a single other book from her, including within the same series lol)

I have been reading fanfic since I was like 9, now I’m 30. I remember always thinking I’d grow out of fan fiction, but I never did, and some people’s stories are so good. I was just like “The fact that I read fanfic as an adult to the grave.” But then I met a friend who is an avid reader (like reads a book everyday no joke), is an English professor at a university, and he mentioned shamelessly that he reads fanfic still, used to write as a teen, and has a unit where his students write a fanfic and upload to AO3 for authentic feedback. I felt so validated!

I also refuse to imagine Dain with a beard 😂. Overall I feel like fourth wing is a cool romance book but not a good fantasy book. There’s too much thirst, too little descriptions. But still a good casual read 👍🏻
