seoul reading vlog 🇰🇷 book haul, i got a library card, reviewing leigh bardugo's new novel
moving into our new house tomorrow and we have so much room for more bookshelves - i am in DANGER! if you want to see moving vlogs, you can check all that on my other channel - czcams.com/channels/a-DreapaYm4Roo0CfUBGQg.html
my first packing vlog and sneak peak of the house is coming out this weekend
Dust Jacket not only comes off when we start the book but it also does not go back on until we finish the book ❤✌🏼
exactly!
I agree 😂
So true 🙌
Facts
Yes!
The ending made The Familiar feel like a folk tale told by a grandmother around a fire, which made me love it. 4 star read for me.
So happy that you promote reading ethically. I really don’t like the book tubers that promote overconsumption.
I love how Crave was just casually sitting on that shelf
Should really have its own display case lol
I CANT WAIT FOR THE MOVING VLOGS IM SO EXCITED
me too! currently moving noooooow!
@@caricanread good luck!!! Be careful with ur back 😅
@@hqlola lifting with my legs!! hahaha
Having worked in children’s literacy, I was curious what the banner hung on the outside of the library said as you were leaving. I took a pic and popped it into my translation app on my iPhone. And it came up as, “For fear of stepping on the bud, the child hung a gangster.” 😧😅 I then brought it up in google translate and got “For fear of stepping on a bud, the child walked hopping.” So cute and also what a relief! I’m just hoping the second version is the correct version 😂 So happy the library card worked out and the English books have increased! Libraries really are magical places.
ofc im sat at 1 am
omg no sleep hahaha
… read this at 1am and felt called out in a weirdly wholesome way
The Tainted Cup sounds like it's RIGHT up my alley, hell yeah
nothing better than waking up to a new cari vlog 🥰
Good morning!!
Exploring local libraries would make a fun vlog!
they're just so hard to vlog in cause they're quiet and dont want to be annoying hahaha
@@caricanread Lol, I didn't even think of that!
i love the ending! i think it's the loveliest ending she's ever written 😂
Yay for getting a library card and for listening to TTPD!! Loving it so far. And I can’t wait to read The Familiar and The Tainted Cup 😍
I have finals next week so I definitely needed a Cari reading vlog haha
Omg good luck 💘
I have my mids next week and I'm here watching CZcams videos for past 1 hour (spoiler: I've been awake just for total past 1 hour)
I won’t lie, the page flipping experience alone might make me get The Familiar 😂 (and the positive review as well! But ooh, painted pages 🤩)
I absolutely loved The Familiar, I think this might be my favorite book from Leigh Bardugo (it feels crazy to write this because I love Ninth House so much)
Totally agree with you on the Familiar. Liked the vibes but the romance felt kinda like whiplash
Just finished our thesis defense and the best way I know to reward myself is a cup of tea and watching all your latest videos. Thank you for this Cari and yes I can’t wait to watch your moving vlogs 🫶🏻
So happy for you cari 💞 also thanks for a surprise vlog
thanks for watching 💞
The audio book for "The Tainted Cup" is SO GOOD!!! Highly recommend!!
Literally the highlight of my friday mornings when a new cari video comes out!! good luck moving :)
when the books are all sitting there "you are 1st in line!" "~2 weeks" i just know every single one of those is coming in at the same time. (i have 5 sitting there 😅 )
moving vlogs exciting!
so cool that two of my fav booktuber know each other!!!
Hi Cari! I LOVE your channel and I’m going to go subscribe to your other channel! You have inspired and helped me get back into reading fiction/fantasy after many years of reading only non-fiction. There is a very pretty aesthetic to BookTube and Bookstagram content, and so many videos of people going to the bookstore to buy books. I love that, and I love to support authors and bookstores when I can, but to be honest, buying allll of the books I want to read (we all know the TBR lists get insanely long) would cost more than I can afford. So I was quite chuffed to hear that you mostly get your books at the library. It’s also important to support libraries! They are cute, cozy, and happy places as well.
Thank you for all you do! I always look forward to your videos/Instagram content. 🥰💕
so excited for the moving footage!
so excited!! i've been in seoul for study and visiting family maybe i'll run into you sometime! so excited for bookshelves
This video is like a taste of your other channel. So calming.
Just about to start The familiar now❤ I love seeing the new books you buy. More for me to add to my own TBR
Reading vloggggg are the best!!!!
missed your reading vlogs so much!!
🥰 🥰 🥰
I was literally in Seoul Forest just 4 days ago! The tulips are simply breathtaking 🌷 My favorite spot in the forest was the ginkgo trees...I just sat on one of the benches for awhile, taking in as much of the atmosphere as I could. I'm back in California now, and already looking forward to my next trip to Seoul! 🛩
your videos are always such a comfort watch 🫶🏻
Thank you 🥲
Always excited to see new book recommendations 😊 happy Friday 🎉
happy happy friday!
Woooooo so happy there's a new video 🥰🥰 perfect way to end a long day with fun and beautiful :)
hehehee hope you have a good weekend!
Omg I used to love The Moth podcast! Didn’t know there was a book. Going to look into that. Thx for sharing!
Just read the first two books from The Murderbot Diaries. Love it so much❤
good luck moving!!! i hope everything goes as smoothly as possible 🥰🥰 v excited to watch this reading vlog
Thank you so much!!
Absolutely love the murderbot series!!
i must say i love the gilmore girls jess vibes cari is giving off in this thumbnail 😯
happy moving!
Cari I'm so excited for your move!!
I'm also really curious what you'll think about Butter, I read it about two years ago and loved it, I still think about it from time to time even now
I have one of those foldable cube baskets for dust jackets on my bookshelf. Highly recommend it so the jackets have a safe place while reading :)
oh i have never heard of this! looking them up right now!
@@caricanread mine fits perfectly so you can't see in it but they are pretty cheap online.
Otherwise jacket goes on chair, I forget, and then sit on it later lol 🥲
I feel exactly the same about the familiar! At first, the ending sort of disappointed me but the longer I sit with it the more I like it!
Let’s go Cari it’s been a day love your vlogs ❤❤❤
💗💗💗
I absolutely loved Butter, but i think its worth taking your time with it. There were a few parts of it that reminded me of Melissa Broader's book Milk Fed.
The Wager is sooo good. My fave nonfiction of 2023, reads like an action-adventure fiction novel.
so excited for this!! and it’s always so crazy to me when you mention where you’re from. I’m also from San Diego and I live near Philly! just such a fun coincidence. good luck with your move!!
hehehe we love a bi-coastal life
I loved The Tainted Cup! it was my first five star read of the year (it took all the way in april to find something I loved lol I've read a lot of misses) I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it!
I also absolutely loved it
Hm. It didn’t exactly work for me personally but I just don’t think RJB is an author for me. But I ended up enjoying it enough to finish it. It certainly has some interesting visuals and vibes.
omg Butter I just received my copy, can’t wait to read it and to see your review 😁
I’m currently reading The Tainted Cup and it’s the first book I’ve read this year that I don’t want to put down - hope you enjoy it!
do u speak korean fluently? didn’t realize u been there so long! that’s awesome
I was definitely more invested in the side characters of The Familiar than I was in the main couple, and I found it to have similar narrative pitfalls (for me) to Shadow and Bone where it didn't really feel fleshed out, despite all the research
It’s 1 am, but here I’m watching your video as soon as you post it. 💕
💗💗💗
Yay for Annie Ernaux. Fitzcarraldo is a great publisher. They have only a handful of employees too!
I'm always on the lookout for new libraries to join on Libby 📚. Tainted Cup does sound good
I used to live in sangbong-dong in east Seoul, and loved the library! It really grew in 2010 so I bet so many libraries have a better English selection now
I finished this book earlier in the month and I felt the same way! I love that she did develop all of the characters and tried to give everyone endings without plot holes, I really appreciate that. BUT for a while I was like "do we care about Valentina or Luzcia? who are these mysterious men??" and it took me about 50% of the way, too, to actually comprehend what was happening. I studied abroad in Cáceres and spent a week in Toledo so every time it was mentioned I definitely felt transported there!
yay! happy friday from rainy london cari! 🌧️ i just finished rereading a frances hardinge book, deeplight, and i thought of you. i think you’d like it!! i hope you’re well! 🌸💗
Your books from the library are either on my tbr or I’ve just recently read. I finished The Wager about 2 weeks ago and enjoyed it (I’m not sure that is the correct comment given the topic) and The Tainted Cup is a good one too. Then Butter! I haven’t started it but just got it this week. I am super excited about it based on the description. I can’t wait to see your moving vlogs. Hope everything goes smoothly and the weather cooperates.
i was not sure if 'taking off dust jacket while reading" was a thing but i always did it because I dont like dust jackets, the only time i would keep them on was because my library would tape them to the covers so I literally couldn't
I'm actually amazed that you have 2 channels! 2 really - really good yt channels!🚀😍♥
Devastated by the dnf of Phoenix Unbound. I absolutely adored that book 😭
did I just saw someone do peace sign while you filming in that 5min in 😆Can't wait for you to share your moving progress in your main channel! Love your channel both here and the main 🥰
Ooh intrigued to see what you think of the Wendy Cope poetry! I love her poem The Orange so much, but I ended up being a bit disappointed by the rest of the collection
Omg, just finished The Familiar! Excited to hear your thoughts 😊
🤍🤍🤍
So excited to see how you like the new Leigh Bardugo book
🥰🙏
I loved The Tainted Cup, it was the first 5 star book of the year for me! And I can't wait to start Butter after I finish my current book A Letter to the Luminous Deep🌷💐🌷
I think i said this on another video but I absolutely love the first song you play (everytime)--you had it in a video a few years ago i think and it's been one of my favorite songs ever since :)
thank you! i love it too :)
Wow, Annie Bot sounds so similar to The Hierarchies by Ros Anderson! I loved that book, though it was totally not what I expected. So if you want another book about a robot learning how to think and have opinions and also about the importance of female friendship. I sobbed my eyes out and recommend it!
Yay for a library card! 🥰
I love Elena Knows and I liked Butter too! I hope you will enjoy them too!
Can't wait to find out what you thought about the Familiar!!!
🥰
The Familiar was my very first Leigh Bardugo book! I ended up loving it, and that was probably due to the audiobook being so well done. I like that the ending was a non-traditional ending. I'm really into books like that recently.
Yeah at first i wasnt sure if i liked the ending but now i definitely do 🤍🤍🤍
The Familiar was my first Leigh Bardugo book and I enjoyed it! I understand why people love her writing. I'm not generally a fan of fictional books using real people as characters, but aside from that I liked it!
Grace draven books are a must read for me now after reading master of crows😊
Writing "the classics" and then panning to Crave had me laughing out loud :D
I am really interested in Familiar, I almost bought it myself but instead I chose "Where the Dark Stands Still" by A.B. Poranek because the cover is GORGEOUS. And thank you for the reminder to get ORANGE!!
Honest question: would you be able to read books in korean? I think it would be a really fun video to read books that maybe aren't even translated and telling us about them 😊
So jealous of the flowers!!! We don't have any yet here in NH...Maine has flowers, but we don't. Ugh I want to read, The Familiar. :)
I really liked the Tainted Cup and I'm interested to hear what you think.
the familiar was so good!!! i did enjoy the first half a lot more than the second half and i do wish the ending wasn’t so prettily wrapped up but i loved the care and detail bardugo put onto the novel!!
also santangel had me giggling like a schoolgirl 🤭💗
Yeah the pre-trials part and then the very end were definitely my favorite!
Ohhh I can't for you and Jack to read Butter !!!!
Wow! The Seoul Forest flowers were stunning!
Hi Cari, happy Friday ❤❤
happy friday!!
Im afraid the closet scene in AnnieBot will never leave my head....
I just starting watching Peruse Project. She recommends some great books! 😊
The Bardugo book looks so good, but I have literally never enjoyed anything she has written, so I have to resist the temptation to drop $30 on it
Have you read six of crows? I’m not asking to encourage you to read it. I just didn’t really enjoy it and everyone said it would be great 💀 I ironically liked her other stuff.
@khrystaliah yup. I'd say it's her strongest work, but still only an average book
That’s where the library comes in 😏
ahhhh cari’s energy is actually amazing
i read in the order ninth house, six of crows, and then stolen heir but if you're asking what you should read first i recommend six of crows :)
The flowers in this video 😍😍.
spring in seoul doesnt mess around 🌷🌷🌷
Cari recommends a book on Saturday morning,I go out and get it on Saturday afternoon. Just started Annie Bot.
ohhh Elena Knows!! I screamed a little when I saw the title!! nice book, not my super fave but still proud of it (Claudia is 🇦🇷) haha lots of love from Argentina Cari ❤
Excited to dive in!
Totally understand that sensory heaven of flipping the pages of a well made book haha
Libraries are amazing things.
If you would recommend a book by Leigh Bardugo to start with wich would it be?
Looking forward to your thoughts on Butter
in case you find all systems red a little stilted give the audiobook a try! i kind of preferred it tbh. murderbot is best bot
I have already read all systems red! I bought the physical because i liked it so much 😂
I really want to know your thoughts on Butter!! LOve you Cari
If you are considering finishing the Mortal Instrument Plot Summary, I would love to watch it. I just put you on and do a puzzle it is quite nice actually. If you aren't planning on doing any more/the rest of the series, that's okay I'll just listen to music. Other series would be lovely. I can't wait to see your new apartment. Much love and I wish you fortitude moving apartments!
Oh! I'd *love* to know your thoughts on TTPD.
i agree with you, The Familiar will be a hit or miss 😅 i'm a huge fan of Leigh Bardugo and this book is definitely very different from her previous ones. not my favorite, but not bad either!
Yeah im still trying to sort out my feeling about it but overall i enjoyed?? just not maybe as a leigh bardugo book if that makes sense hahha
@@caricanread it does!! i expected something completely different coming from her!
NEW VIDEOOOOOO❤❤❤
:''''')
I actually read Phoenix Unbound, and I have to read Dragon Unleashed and Raven Unveiled this year to get them off my shelves. PU was very slow, and it's more of a slow-burn fantasy romance. I was not expecting that, and I didn't know how I feel about it. I will let you know if you missed anything, Cari LOL
I also have The Tainted Cup, and I am going to read that very soon. I hope we both enjoy it.
Take care, Cari! Hope you have a good time and a good move!
I read The Familiar with a group of friends and it was pretty mixed reviews over there lol I happened to really love it but I also like historical fiction whereas the people who rated it lower were more fantasy readers
