cari i’m begging you to read the red rising series by pierce brown whenever you’re ready to be sucked into a world for 6 books again (the 7th and final book comes out 2024, likely)
Icebreaker being set in LA drove me crazy! I looked up the author when I was reading it and she’s British so it made me wonder if she’s only ever been to LA or something? Why not just set the books in London? Or literally anywhere else lol
i dont even think they ever went to the beach so there was no reason for it to be in LA hahah they could have gone to a shady college bar ANYWHERE haahah
Awesome vlog ‼️💯 I have just read Cinder and I loved that book and can’t wait to continue the series. On the other I am finishing the Never After series and Twisted Love series and i don’t mind smut but these series’ are just smut and curse words and zero plot and no character development. Like I can’t relate to any of the characters and I don’t remember why the characters are important. What is the hype with these types of books is just the smut ? I am literally running back to YA and middle grade books because atleast the characters are so much well defined.
I’m so glad you feel the same way about hello stranger. I dnfed at the part where she told her doctor “I can’t get lifesaving surgery, I have an entry level art contest!” Almost picked it up again until I saw this 😂
Besides the content of your videos which I always love, I want to thank you for how accessible they are to wonky attention spans. So many youtubers these days don't even bother with subtitles, and some even put automatic subtitles as the more polished ones and they always suck!! But you take the time to either write or have someone else write them, AND the fact that you put the name of the book you're currently talking about up in the corner helps me immensely. So many times I just forget what someone is talking about halfway through, and having that little help to go back to is awesome. Keep it up! :)
I just truly love listening to you talking about books ❤ And thanks for this recommendations! Also, I just started 'Legends & Lattes' and I'm already craving coffee haha.
The voice actor for the The September House audiobook did an incredible job and I think probably brought some of the jokes from almost there to laugh out loud funny. I definitely recommend the audio to anyone who is interested in the story!

I swear for a good 5 minutes I had the story of Rumplestilskin and Rip Van Winkle mixed up and I was very confused and concerned that we'd run out of stories so people were writing re-tellings of a story about an old man from colonial America
There is an excellent way to do a Rumpelstiltskin retelling! Naomi Novik has done it twice, once as a short story in a multiauthor collection; once as the incredible novel SPINNING SILVER.
While you are in Pennsylvania get a library card out there! My parents moved a bunch recently and whenever I stayed with them I would get a new library card, so now I have 3 and I get books on OverDrive much faster :)
37:07 i hate romeo and juliet retellings that focus on roseline because i think they get her character completely wrong. most people forget that roseline wasn’t interested in romeo (which i why he was depressed in the beginning) and planned to be a nun from the start
Me too like she’s always trying to snatch him or in love with him but this lady literally rejected him in the first place. I have been saying this the whole time thank you for bringing it up. I love her so much and it pains me to see her with Romeo. (No hate to him) 😭😭❤️
@@pleiadesh.4828 I'm glad someone agrees! :) I actually love roseline too because I think she acts as such a good character foil to both Romeo and Juliet because she was very grounded and seemed to have a very realistic view of the world compared to them

I listened to icebreaker on BookBeat without knowing too much about it and let’s just say that listening to the smutty scenes whilst out and about made me cringe so hard, especially because there were so many and they were quite repetitive. I wish I could have skimmed over them but because it was an audiobook I was forced to listen to every. single. word. The one positive thing is that there are two narrators so it’s always clear what character’s perspective the current chapter is in.

There's a book by Janette Rallison called 'My Unfair Godmother' where the main characters accidentally time travel back to the medieval period and get caught up in the Rumpelstiltskin fairytale. It's been a long time since i read it, but I remember it being a very short, funny and sweet read. And there's absolutely no pregnancy depiction either. You could give it a try if you want to! It's a part of a trilogy called 'My Fair Godmother' and I enjoyed all 3 books, but they can be read as standalones too.

omg have you ever read Small Favors by Erin A. Craig? Ik you said you didn't want another Rumplestilskin retelling but I swear this one is sooo good. Its more fae vibes if anything and the imagery is so beautiful.
Without fail at least ONE book per monthly wrap up ends up on my tbr - which compared to my reading speed is perfect.. thank you for another great video!!
The only thing keeping me from reading on is the high price of the Murderbot books, at least in Brazil (is it like that everywhere?) - kindle version is expensive and paperback usually 🔪. Especially for something not so long.
I apologize, but I am just going to vent a little about Gilded/Cursed. I LOVED Gilded. I was so hyped for Cursed. I then deeeeeeespised it. After reading Cursed I realized how much I overlooked in Gilded. I sped read it in like a day to avoid some emotional turmoil and I also skimmed or skipped the majority of the story that didn't take place in the castle...so I was oblivious to the pacing issues. Cursed had nothing on the other side for me to skim to though. There was so. much. book. so much stuff, and so little substance. I just skimmed till the end and was then sad. I want another Marissa Meyer book like Heartless. I feel if she had been forced to make Gilded a standalone, it would have been so much more toothsome. Heartless was agony to finish, but because I was so invested in the characters, not because I was so pissed at the writing.
Omg YES I'm so excited that you're reading the Murderbot Diaries!! Fyi there is one full length novel but the rest are novellas. There's actually a new novella coming out this November too!
Idk what your opinion on spinning silver is but it's the best retelling of rumpelstiltskin I've personally read (which is saying nothing bc it's the only retelling of it I've read lol). It's minor on the romance aspect and there's no pregnancy involved either :')
Also like there's a lot of missed potential in turning Rumpelstiltskin into a thriller/mystery fantasy type of book idk. Finding their name? The power names have in traditional fae lore? Being accused of turning straw into gold? Like a guy smuggling humans under the guise that they turn straw into gold ans there's nobody who can figure out who he is... I wish I could regurgitate my thoughts but it's a little hard to put into words wheeze
@caricanread that's fair! It gets really slow at points and the different povs sometimes didn't mesh well together until I read it a couple more times,, also the chemistry between the main couple didn't really hit until the 75% mark. But I'm a sucker for that ending lol
I love Holly Black. I seriously can't stop reading the Elfhame books. But I've not been very open to trying the other series. Idk about the smoochfest. Lol
Coming on last month's wrap-up to mention I read Divine Rivals, based on your reading of it! Quite enjoyed it, though the end left a bitter taste in my mouth - I knew there would be a sequel (you said so!), but god, did I feel it left off at a weird point. I still have a couple of books from your August Wrap Up to read before I jump into any from September, but a couple caught my eye :D
Me and my best friend randomly picked out greenwood at Barnes a few years ago! I’ve never seen anyone else talk about it :,) The descriptions are amazing, but the ending felt weird.
Would love it if you would cover some of Kate Elliott's work! My personal favorite is her _Crown of Stars_ series, but if you're not looking for a 7-book, 600-ish pages per book odyssey, might I suggest her _Crossroads_ trilogy, or her new space opera series, _The Sun Chronicles_ (still in progress)? Her _Jaran_ series is her first and also quite good where modern space meets low-tech warrior tribes; this is also where we first meet the Chapalli, where if you continue to read Kate's books, you'll see them again and again under localized names (Kapelli, etc. depending on the region of space you're visiting this time) which I think is really cool.
Hey Cari! This is kinda irrelevant to this video but I wanted to say this anyways, I'm someone who has watched your videos for a long time, and I love your content (I change my profile a lot so idk you won't be able to recognize me lol but yeah I often comment) Anyways, I follow you on your socials too, and I wanted to express how grateful and happy I am to know that I support the right person. You used your platform to raise awareness for Palestine, and knowing your position this can't be easy, I just wanted to tell you I love you for that and thank you for being a genuinely good person I can feel proud to like. I know from your stories that you've been receiving a lot of hateful DMS after voicing support for Palestine, just wanted you to know that there are people who support you and are so proud of you, you're one of the good ones. Love you Cari!! 💗💗💗💗 (Btw out of the hundreds of western influencers I follow, you're the only one who posted anything in support of Palestine, and I love you for that.) Ps, I read The girl who fell beneath the sea because of you, and omg I loved it, also I bought As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow because of you too lol, can't wait to read it!!
I also recently read raven boys… idk I cannot connect with it. I like the premise of the story but there’s something about the writing style is mind numbing. I cannot concentrate or it takes great effort to recall what I’ve read. I even tried audiobook and physical formats… I’m sad
Omg, Icebreaker broke my brain. The naivete (and I'm being kind here) of Anastasia was killing me. I also thought it was too long and the epilogue stupid. But other than that, I guess some of it was fun 😅
Yeah her being a college athlete almost reaching the olympics and not knowing basic nutrition 🤔 had to turn my brain all the way off to read this hahhaha
I have a book to suggest! I'm three chapters in on Unholy Terrors by Lyndall Clipstone and feel like you would LOVE it. I am excited to see with this book goes.
Yesss September House! I had a lot of the same opinions, it’s such a weird mix of new and old ideas. Ultimately it was so easy of a read I couldn’t stay mad at it, but I did want more
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik is a rumplestiltskin retelling that is very beloved and popular -- she changes the story a bit and kind of does her own thing with it. I would say it's inspired by the original story rather than a retelling and it focuses on the story of 3 women. I really enjoyed it and a lot of other people do to, I think you would actually really like it. You should give it a try
@@caricanread aww that’s a shame, to be fair the only rumplestiltskin retellings I have enjoyed were spinning silver and once upon a time tv show and I think the tv show did it the best 😂

The fact that I also read Hello Stranger in the past month and totally forgot what it was about is ironic. Finally someone else who has the same opinion on it as me. Agreed that it's all dumb LOL!
Omg I thought I heard wrong but theres a quite popular webtoon which sounds exactly like Fair Rosaline but she was left with her and romeos son after he left her for juliet and she goes on with that, although I think it does have more romance. Oh she's an adult! Not a child with a son 💀😭

@@caricanread im sorry i was so excited to see your collection because you always read in your ipad or kindle i was kinda curious
Love you so much btw thanks for responding
I related so much to Murderbot 😂
omg have you ever read Small Favors by Erin A.

There’s also a movie called “Rosaline” that sounds like a similar synopsis to the book! It’s funny and I recommend!
Omg yesss i love kaitlyn denver and that was based off another book i think!!
I think Four Treasures of the Sky and Sour Heart were actually written by different authors (with the same name, so it's totally understandable)
For Stiefvater, I think The Scorpio Races is her best.
i actually started it and couldnt get into it but i think i was just not in the right mindset cause of travel - will give it another go someday!
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Idk what your opinion on spinning silver is but it's the best retelling of rumpelstiltskin I've personally read (which is saying nothing bc it's the only retelling of it I've read lol). It's minor on the romance aspect and there's no pregnancy involved either :')
For some reason i could NOT get into spinning silver 😭 i should give it another try some day though!!
I really do wish you would give Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation a try. Dip your toes in that sweet sweet xianxia novels.
Pleaseee record a separate reading vlog for your A Curse For True Love reactions
I am planning to!
I felt the same way you did when you started gilded. Same with when I read it again. I had to dnf cursed because it was SO WEIRD.
I love Holly Black. I seriously can't stop reading the Elfhame books. But I've not been very open to trying the other series. Idk about the smoochfest. Lol
I was just watching another video from you! Love here
thank youuu!
Immediately recognized the wood paneling as you being in America. Shout-out to your folks as new Pennsylvanians!
I adore Murderbot!
Me and my best friend randomly picked out greenwood at Barnes a few years ago! I’ve never seen anyone else talk about it :,) The descriptions are amazing, but the ending felt weird.
I honestly would have loved it as a short story just dealing with the first timeline 😭🙌
you should watch Rosaline the movie, it's also a retelling but it's a comedy
Im a big fan a kaitlyn denver so i watched it the day it was released last year lol
💗💗💗💗 (Btw out of the hundreds of western influencers I follow, you're the only one who posted anything in support of Palestine, and I love you for that.)
Ps, I read The girl who fell beneath the sea because of you, and omg I loved it, also I bought As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow because of you too lol, can't wait to read it!!
I also recently read raven boys… idk I cannot connect with it. I like the premise of the story but there’s something about the writing style is mind numbing. I cannot concentrate or it takes great effort to recall what I’ve read. I even tried audiobook and physical formats… I’m sad
Murderbottttttttttt yessss
(Shannon Hale also does some pretty decent fairy tale retellings, if that's a trope you're generally into.)
Your vids bring me comfort :)
Ultimately it was so easy of a read I couldn’t stay mad at it, but I did want more
Exactly!!
i think youre stalking me because why was this almost the exact books i read
Woah San Diego to PA is a huge change!
You should give it a try
i actually read it a few years ago and really didnt like it - i just dont think i like naomi novik's work sadly :/
@@caricanread aww that’s a shame, to be fair the only rumplestiltskin retellings I have enjoyed were spinning silver and once upon a time tv show and I think the tv show did it the best 😂
Oddly enough, I read a YA retelling of Rumpelstiltskin mixed with The Frog Prince. I actually liked it.
Trying to imagine that hahhaha
So The Space Between Here & Now sounds like the Time Traveler's Wife, but for kids and that sounds interesting. So glad I discovered this channel with such broad and unique recommendations. 💜🙏🏾🤠
Four Treasures killed me! 😭I couldn’t read anything for awhile after that. Needed a minute. The Truants is on my library waitlist 🥳
If you want to read a good Hockey romance book please read The Deal by Elle Kennedy. The book is so funny and cute and my comfort book so I highly recommend it (it's also not that long so... )
James Baldwin definitely deserves full attention, he was a great thinker and a beautiful soul.
I forgive you for not giving us any Louie content this video. This time 😒.
louie was distracted by food sorry hahahhaa
Read Small Favors by Erin E. Craig. It is a rumpletiltskin retelling but with a bit of a twist. In general, the book was AMAZING!
Confession time. I'm trying to read The Raven Boys because I've heard about the series forever and I've heard it's supposed to be good but I am having SUCH a hard time getting into it. But I want to watch your video about the series and not be spoiled. I'll give it another try.
The audiobooks narrated by Will Patton are amazing. I loved reading the books years ago, but maybe it would be easier for you to get into the series by listening them, because W. P. truly brings the characters to life.
Hi Cari I love your channel! So glad you read Murderbot and The Raven Cycle. You might like The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stievfater too. I think it's underrated. Also, I'm from San Diego (Coronado) too✌️
I started scorpio races last month actually but couldnt get into it but i think it was just bad timing on my part!!
Fav new booktuber❤

Haven’t read any of these is was good to hear a little bit of info about them all
I love love LOVE your sweater!
I’m interested in four treasures of the sky. Thanks for the recommendation!
Goldspun is a Rumpelstiltskin retelling and I liked it! I haven't read the second book yet though.
