One series that has all three tropes has to be "The Gentlemen Bastards". Father Chains is such a great mentor, you can't not love Locke and the Gentlemen Bastards as a family are hard to beat too.

Loveable rogues? Riyria! I adore Michael J. Sullivan's whole world, but Hadrian and Royce will always have a place in my heart. It makes it even cuter that Sullivan's wife has a crush on Hadrian. 😆If you have not read The Riyria Chronicles and the Riyria Revelations you totally should.

The disgraced ronin in the Shadow of the Fox series by Julie Kagawa is a very lovable rogue character too! He easily became one of my favorite supporting characters.

Have you read "The Others" series by Anne Bishop? It's a found family, too. The synopsis is really dull though, doesn't reflect the awesomeness and suggests romantic plot (it's a lie). I'd say it's a story of what happens when the Earth and its non-human creations get fed up with humanity for the way it treats the planet. We all see it through the eyes of Meg, who is also not a human, but she's wanted by the government and finds shelter with the creatures. And there are so many: shapeshifters vamps, mythical creatures, even embodiments of the weather. The series is 5 books + 3 more set in the world. And tw for self harm, violence.
But it's such a great series. Been obsessed for years. 😃
I have Irregular Society on hold at my library; really looking forward to reading it! Another fantasy book I recently read with great found family rep is Other Birds! It's low fantasy, with a lot of whimsy and a few ghosts. Perfect for autumn too!

Could you do a trope video but with tropes that are actually spoilers if you learn about them ? You could say three tropes ( but not say which one goes with which books of the videos so we are not actually spoiled). And so when reading one of the recommended books we would have those tropes without getting spoiled which one.
My FAVORITE trope of all times is when the good guys and the bad guys (a real rivalry, not fake) have to finally unite at the end because a bigger bad guy could ruin everything badly for both. I just LOVE THAT but it's never talked about, because it's considered a huge spoiler. Another spoiler trope is the "is this a mystery-or is it supernatural" and it needs to be supernatural otherwise I find it boring. Or the trope of ambiguous ending. So many spoilery tropes I want to hear more about!!

I read Mask of Mirrors and the sequel as audiobooks and the narrator absolutely killed it! She did so many different accents for Ren which was phenomenal. Definitely recommend the audiobook!!

For lovable rogue I'd definitely recommend The Riyria Revelations! (And I assume The Chronicles as well, but I haven't gotten to those yet.)
For a mentor, I like Harry Dresden, plus Mouse is a great animal companion. Back in the day I loved the Anita Blake series and her mentor was Edward, one of my only book crushes ever.
I wasn't a huge fan of book 2 of the Bone Shards Daughter. Jovis kept me reading it instead of a dnf. Great hair. 👍

When I read The final Empire, I thought that Kelsier was definitely not morally good (he's an extremist!). But... seeing how he treats Vin and how he talks about Mare, it's impossible not to like him a bit!
Hi Elliot, I'm one of subscriber, I just want to recommend a book for you, since I knew that you like Spin The Dawn duology and Six Crimson Cranes. This book's title is When The Mountain Meets The Moon by Grace Lin. I don't know if you've read it or not, but your booktube friend Rodger has read it and he liked it. It's a middle grade book with fairy tale like prose, Asian myth inspired. It somehow has a similar trope with Elizabeth Lim's books and it's cute
I love your glasses and lipstick! What brands are they? Regarding books - I first heard of The Mask of Mirrors through your channel! I'm torn bc I want to like it but I also find it too unnecessarily confusing. I don't want info dumps but better explanations of the magic system and world would be so helpful!
In my opinion, a fantasy that's not heard about enough is Ordinary Monsters! It has tropes of found family and mentor figure. :)

i am reading the final empire right now (a couple of pages until i'm done), and honestly? kelsier could eat all of the nobles as a three-course meal and i'd be there with my pompoms to cheer him on. and that's including elend that's how much i'm willing to root for him. :'D eat the rich. anyway even then, i don't think what he does is completely wrong. nobles are just a minority group of people who _have_ treated the skaa badly, true not all of them are bad people but when you're trying to overthrow the current system and people in power, i doubt he has the time to determine who actually has ill intentions, and most of his kills were to cause chaos, so in the name of their plan actually succeeding. like except for a few of them nobles just casually kill skaa with impunity and some of kelsier's kills were the only justice murdered or enslaved children ever got. his and his brother's existences are against the law and he spent his whole life with an executioner's axe over his head. he is a product of his environment and his flippant personality and enjoyment of killing his oppressors is both a coping mechanism and active rebellion against the system he was born into, and i think whenever push came to shove he always did the right thing for as many people as he possibly could. he is mostly motivated by anger on behalf of the victims. i don't think kelsier in the final empire is not as bad as the fandom makes him out to be. i think kelsier before the pits could fit into the lovable rogue profile, but now, i think he is the hero the world needs. he is someone who actually takes action when there is something deeply wrong happening and actually does it successfuly. anyway love your video haha, it's just pretty fresh in my mind and i have so much love for kelsier.
