Great video. I've lived in France since 2004 and owned 8 French properties. You touched upon some good points in this video and more in your "Escape from the Chateau" video. Another point that annoys me is how French agents say the seller pays the agency fees. This is a scam to make buyers think it doesn't matter about the astronomical fees they charge, but the truth is that the buyer pays ALL fees. The seller NEVER hands over any money when selling a property. The buyer supplies the only money available, and ALL fees come from that pot. Real estate agents in France are among the biggest scammers around, far worse than any used car salesman.

Don't overbuild for the neighborhood. Good advice for any renovation project.

Absolutely worth watching! I particularly appreciated the due dilligence! And never underestimate the differences in the legal dimension UK vs Fance!

The difference of the prices in France depends on the department u r buying,if it's high income department, most of people would want to live there, it's not poor and rural it's touristic and rustic. As u said in your intro about the difference of expectation about chateaux and big houses is their historic value....people may think a grandiose chateau may be more expensive but in France few of them r really attached to the history of that region, protected and sometimes yes over priced. Most of people who r buying "chateaux" in France are not really expensive, they r simply maison de compagne for rich people back then, for hunting season......basically a chateau in France belongs to a noble family, must have guard tour and many had their own Inside village, that's why many mansion r abandoned and not restored......too pricy and no historic value in the middle of nowhere in not attractive department.

I've been working on renovating a château in the 44 department. The owner is now selling for family health reasons. It's a really small château, built after ww2. It sits in 2 hectares with another entire house, which is ready to move into. Huge stables, and i think another 7 hectares which a farmer rents. I think it's only 450k . Bargain of the century. It's in the town of conquereuil 44290. Well worth checking out.

If the owners want to email me on dan@agencenewton.com, I could be interested in marketing it!

This is all been really interesting… I’ve watched several of your videos now… Would you ever do an episode on Manor houses? And giving us kind of a 101 on them?

That depends on the location, size, land size, eyc, impossible to give a ball park figure.
